Luau or Hoop De Doo?

For those that have done the redone version of the Spirit of the Luau thing and Hoop De Doo both...which would you recommend for a family of four???
Two girls 8 & 13.
the Luau has been getting some pretty bad reviews since it was "reworked"

Haven't done either so not much help - sorry . But when I asked the same thing on these boards the overwheming majority was for the HDD most said the luau food wasn't that good and the show was a little stale. I found good reviews on allears.net so that may help you decide.

Let me know when you find out...I did HDDR last Novemeber and Loved it!! My boyfirned even got called on stage during the audience participation part. We are going back this Summer and are doing the MYW Dining plan. I've heard the Aloha dinner was popular...and we were thinking of using two of our dinner points to go there...but I'm not sure if I'd rather do that or just use all of the dinner points at separate places. If it has been getting bad reviews, I'm not sure I'd want to waste two of my points there.

I love Hoop-De-Doo, but I've never done the Lua. I haven't heard must positive feed back about it. We're going back to Hoop again this year (that'll make it 5 times for me since 1996) and really looking forward to it! It's the only place I eat fried chicken. Mmmm...

I have done both and must say the HDD has much better food and is more entertaining. Children will also prefer the HDD more as there is more interaction with crowd and it is comical.

I have done both and preferred the HDDR. if you have ever been to a "real" luau in Hawaii you will be very disappointed in the Luau. I hadn't been to a real luau prior to attending the WDW Luau so I was unaware how sappy the WDW Luau really was. I will not be going back to the Spirit of Aloha show. This past March I attended a real Hawaiian Luau and couldn't believe how horrible the WDW Luau actually is! Save the luau for a trip to Hawaii.

thanks everyone for the replies!!
This is certainly a testimonial for the Hoop De Doo Revue and a couple completely against the Luau.
We've been to luaus in Hawaii and know what the "real thing" is all about so I wouldn't want to spend all that money to be disappointed.

As for the HDDR we have never done it partly because we are originally from Missouri and don't have any shortage of opportunities to experience country living and fried chicken and hillbillys and such. I can understand how people from New Jersey or Boston or Los Angeles might get a kick out of that...but heck, we used to live there.
But the numbers are hard to ignore 12 out of 12 people surveyed recommend a trip over to Fort Wilderness.

I'm just wondering if our upcoming trip June 2nd will leave us in the far back of the theatre where those obssesive planners tie up their horses?
Will we have bad seats/tables if we call today???

HDD is better in my opinion-the luau is fun but the food was not good when we went.

Having done both, I aggree Hoop-Dee-Doo wins hands down. Now the older version of the Luau might have had a chance but this new version needs replacing and fast. We did find the food at the Luau not bad, I know some did not like it but we did...smjj
