My doctor and her DH and DS went to Disney Presidents week. They had never been there before but went that week due to a conference. Anyway, the were having lunch at LTT when their waitress Theresa came over to take their order. Theresa was what they discribed as a "bigger woman". Theresa asked their DS7 what his name was, to which he replies "Nick". Theresa then looks at him and says "Oh, that used to be my name when I was a little boy!!" At first the parents laughed but quickly realized she was not kidding. Theresa was then not very friendly with them the rest of the meal.

Not that they or I think there is anything wrong with Theresa, they just felt it was not right to say to a 7yr old boy! :sad2:

:scared1: I can't believe he/she said that! Nothing wrong with it but why would anyone care to know.

Are they SURE she wasn't joking? That just seems like such an odd thing to say to a child-even if it is true.

She probably just blurted it out. Afterall, it is all part of her life.

I do think it would be a great kindness if you would edit her name out of your post.

Could the waitress name be Nicole - and Nick for short ?
I hope she did not mean any harm to a DS.
It's LTT, not 50 Prime Time where they do kid around.

If she has gone thru what we are all supposing here, there is part of her that wants the whole world to know, regardless of who they are. Whether she should be sharing it with guests at Disney is another question.

I bet this didn't phase the child as much as it did the parents. Kids are rather clueless about such things. I wouldn't worry about it.

Okay......that had to rank like a 10 on the odd-o-meter.

If if he/she is having an issue, that should have been kept to himself/herself and not shared with a little boy.

If she was a boy-man and said that you would not bat an eyelid, if she was genuinely TG then she made what was for her a normal remark. I don't think she should have to hide her past or her nature. SHe was not being explicit or inappropriate and if this was the family of a doctor then I am surprised at the reaction.

Nothing wrong with the life experiences of this person, but knowing it is an issue that is not a common occurance, it's hard to believe the waitress blurted that out to a child without having any way of knowing whether or not he could understand. However, this happens to all of us as parents, a tv show or movie or another child brings up a topic that we had not yet discussed with our child. At least it starts a dialog! :rolleyes1

I don't think that is the kind of comment you say to a child, kiddin' or not.
