Love those 80's!

Currently on my Disney High School Musical MixMax(ok...yeah, I stole it from my kid, but it was a really expensive xmas gift and she never even touches it anymore!!!) playlist for the past few months( I rarely get around to changing it...I rarely really listen to it except in the golf cart)...

BDR-

It is amazing the memories that I dredged up reading your play list. Wow! I have not thought about half those songs in 20 years, but boy, do I remember hearing them, and what I was doing at the time.

That Human League song- Don't you want me baby - OMG- I remember playing that song over and over and over again in the spring of 1982.

And, I also suddenly remembered my old cassettes and the cool cassette player that I had in my car. For some reason, I had this Loverboy cassette (Working for the Weekend was the big single on it), that I played until it was played out. That song belongs on your list.

Loverboy had a bunch of good songs...Notorious STILL gets some play at work every other month or so, HOT GIRLS IN LOVE is played every single night during dollar dances. Then there were the songs that I cant really play, but were definately great like WHEN ITS OVER, THE LUCKY ONES, THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT, TURN ME LOOSE... those guys were the butt of alot of jokes because of the red leather clad asteriskasteriskasterisk on the album cover...but they DID pump out a good size collection of tunes.

Who WOULDNT make fun of an album cover like this???

:scared1: I must not have ever seen that album cover, because I don't see how I would have forgotten that!! Yikes!

Donnie- Are you from Jax originally? Were you a .38 Special fan? Hooo Boy- I knew a lot of guys that were into that sound.

Born and raised here. Back before Skynyrd was famous my grandmother had a stable where you could rent horses. About once a month she would hire bands to play and Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet would play out there. If you look on the back of Hatchet's 1st album it mentions Greenfield Stables.

Southern rock kinda died out or so it seems. The Skynyrd group (original one's that lived) seemed to really mess up. Allen Collins got in a car wreck that killed a young girl and he died years later of complications from injuries and drugs. I think it was the drummer who did some time in the slammer for child molestation or lude acts, something to that nature. There's a bar in Jax Beach owned by his widow and daughter called Freebirds. Never been though.

Southern rock didn't die,,,it just got REAL twangy and went toward the country. I am a real fan of music (cept rapp) so I listen to most everything. If you took all the vocals outta a lot of the country songs , you'd have southern rock instrumentals.

I remember the second time I saw Skynrd, Charlie Daniels was the first band up, Skynrd played second. Johnny Van. stipped his voice in the middle of the second song,,no more vocals,,Charlie came out and played his fiddle for the rest of the concert in place of Johnny's vocals. A full concert of Skynrd songs playing Instrumentally ! It was awesome !!! :worship:

Wow,Frank...its once-in-a-lifetime performances like that that a guy should consider himself lucky to witness!!

Southern rock is still around...have you guys heard JET? they had a couple of hits year before last...still hear them on the radio pretty often...the songs were ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL and COLD HAR B*asterisk*asterisk*etc...and, I know, not EVERYONES a fan of his...but KID ROCK puts out some very southern based tunes..BLACK CROWES arent doing much lately, but the 90s were filled with their southern kickin songs.
Its there....its getting to be slim pickins...but its there. I agree with Frank...country music aint what it was 20 years ago...you hear more and more "country songs" being played on pop stations, especially from the Female stars like Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Kelly Pickler..and lots of "pop" songs are finding their way onto the country charts as well.

Was this band too shy for you to remember?

They proved that wearing shoes to a video shoot was not a requirement!!

Once their one hit faded...the lead singer went on to make one more hit for a movie starring this character...

Kajagoogoo. (Truth be told, I had to look up how to spell the name on my Ipod).

How in the world did I leave out the group of sultry sexies when I was doing the Hot Blondes part????
VIXEN.jpg

These girls were living on the edge and made spandex, spiked heels and hairspray look better than anything Id ever seen.

Just like it sounds!!! Good Job!!! Can you name the movie that lead singer Hamill (who jumbled the letters of his last name for his NEW SOLO name) wrote the title song for?

Not without Google! :rotfl: I really am very bad with names. I hear a song and I know it, but couldn't tell you who sings it, what the actually title of the song is, etc. That's why I love my compilation of 80's songs that I mentioned in a previous post. I do have to say that "Ah Leah" is one of my favorite songs, and I like the other song you mentioned by that artist, but I had no idea he sang both! :lmao: Besides, BDR, you give the best clues sometimes!

I have no idea based on that clue, but the pic looks like it's from either the Dark Castle or Neverending Story. I don't really remember the music from either movie. Oh and the spandex chicks look like Vixen?

Neverending Story is correct...by "LIMAHL", he needed 2 bands to pull it off...but he may be the only 80s cat who made the One Hit Wonder list TWICE!!!

VIXEN is also correct...LIVING ON THE EDGE OF A BROKEN HEART was their claim to fame...well, those skin tight outfits didnt hurt their fame either...the drummer was fiesty lil video vixen!!!

Did you know their hair stylist back in the 80's ? :rotfl2:

Of all the outrageous hairstyles in the 80s...that guy had the coolest of'em all!! I tried to copy his hair...but mine was curly...and no matter how many chemicals Id slop into my hair and bake in with a hair dryer while hnging my head upside down on the edge of a bed...I just couldnt get it to do that!!!

This scene had nothing to do with WHITESNAKE or TAWNY KITAEN...but it should jog a memory. Much like Peter Wolf of the J Geils band...this lead singer looked like a dork...but pulled off a very long relationship with an 80s supermodel. Money and fame is a good thing to have!!!

They had TONS of hits in the 80s...MAGIC, MY BEST FRIENDS GIRLFRIEND, TOUCH AND GO, LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL, LETS GO, DRIVE...the list goes on and on. A truelly under-appreciated band whos music was playing in THE CARS of every parking lot teen party in the country.

Man, I had that one before you started naming hit songs, one of my all time favorite groups, the group that minted the term New Wave, The Cars! Lead singer Rick Ocasek, though himself ugly as sin, had a hot GF (later, wife)...

By no means do I mean to distract from the ladies,,but
