Love those 80's!

Wow, lots of bands that I had forgotten about! I really liked New Order. They played a lot of this music in the clubs back in the day.

I totally forgot Tangerine Dream (forgive, please!). I was also going to mention some more 'borderline' techno groups like Pet Shop Boys, Afrika Bambaataa (and the Soul Sonic Force! :thumbsup2 ), Cybotron (bonus points if can name their top hit), PM Dawn. Remember Gary Numan's Cars? How about M, Pop Muzik?

All are on mu iPod right now... am I sad or cool?! :dance3:

Shan...with your strange knowledge of music...WHY THE HECK ARENT YOU SOMEHOW INVOLVED IN IT? I remember, and often play...every one you just named...EXCEPT cybotron!!! I'll have to look that one up.
KRAFTWERK is definately the pioneers of techno (boing boom chock)...the others, although using bubbling bass lines and synth's were really more what was then called "progressive dance".....Debbie Debb, Freestylers, Keoki, Crystal Waters...there were hundreds of them...I liked most of them.
Then in the early 90s, Yanni, Manheim Steam Roller, and John Tesh came in and kinda mom & popped it up so much that it lost its edge. Meaning that now were left with guys like Moby, ATB, & ATC...none of which are bad, by any means....but if ya get one of those young little ecstacy trippin underground DJs....they can mix ANYTHING into a techno rip. Have you heard the Nine Inch Nails/Mario Bros mix of CLOSER? yes...Mario Bros, as in the theme to the video game!!!! Cant wait to see whats considered cool in the next decade!!!

I'm more into Ten Years After, Hendrix, Morrison, Paige, et al - I am a child of the 60s ---- my kids were teens at the end of the 80s - sad commentary - I am listening to City Sickness by the Heart Attacks right now - but I don't know names any more - I needed to look at the playlist on Napster to find the name. Sad - :confused3

OH The OZ just popped up - I don't Wanna Stop - it's cranked up - that's my kind of music - along with Hinder, Seether, Buckcherry, Weezer, Nickleback - all newer than the 80s - I guess raising kids - I just listened during the 80s and never got really into it like I should have.

Not so sad, AL...as we get older..other things need to fill those gaps in our minds besides song names and lyrics and band names! I cant wait till the day comes when I dont care about the new song Im hearings playability, when I dont have to worry if its too slow to get a crowd going, or too sad, or to dated, etc...I cant wait till I can listen to a song and say "that sounds good." or "thats crap." and not have another concern about it. If I like it, I'll listen to it..if I dont I'll change the channel or track. Right now, Im kinda forced to endure music I HATE because its what the kids are diggin and I have to be current in my playlist selection. Im pretty sure when my DJing days are over, I'll probably just put it on a country station and take a nap.

Oh yeah, don't get me started down the freestyle-genre... that's my sh... stuff! Debbie Deb, Covergirls, Freestyle, Egyptian Lover, Expose, Planet Patrol, Stevie B, Will to Power! Again, all on my Nano at this moment! Nano=small=I listen to this stuff enough to warrant being there! LOL

"look out weekend cause, here I come, because weekends were made for fun, fun, fun!"

Can you remember the name of the only hit single from THIS solo album?

Was it Hold Me Touch Me? or Tonight You Belong to Me?

Paul Stanley is an amazing talent. He's actually performed on Broadway, and if my memory serves me correctly, he played The Phantom in Phantom of the Opera in Toronto. I understand he's a very talented painter or some kind of artist. Although I couldn't stand the creepy costumes of KISS, I loved their music. I also just heard that AC/DC is releasing a new album.

Rog...I have two albums that I have yet to get sick of (since ummmm 1969?), and still play the crap outta them. Beatles White Album, and Tommy by The Who. I was also into Zepplin, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk, Moody Blues, Jerry Garcia (yes, I'm a Dead Head - Sometimes the lights all shinin' on me. Other times I can barely see.), and hell....I've forgotten the names of most groups, but when I hear their music I can jump right in! My summer of '73 was a blur!:rotfl2:

Tonight You Belong To Me is what I had in mind...the actual title is I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU. Paul Stanley IS INDEED very diverse and multitalented...although PHANTOM OF THE PARK (the 70s movie) may lead you to think his acting skills were less than keen. I didnt know he did broadway shows, but that makes perfect sense....being the um,.......BROAD(as in feminin)WAY that he is!!!

AcDc new disc came out today......Im gonna give it a couple of days to get into the systems and download it from mp3rocket to give it an ear...Im kind of syked about it!!!

I haven't played yet, mainly cuz I don't remember much of the 80's.... LOL

But does anybody remember this guy, he had a couple hits in the 80's and was from my neck of the woods!

I cant help but wonder why you arent in radio Rog, you have an enormous amount of music knowledge and a great way of explaining yourself.

Thanks Scott.....Im too poor for radio!!! I wouldnt really be able to afford the transition from the clubs to radio...Id be going in as the new guy..getting horrible time slots til someone paid attention...after a couple of years I would do pretty well, Im sure..but it would take time to find my people(ya know...those sick individuals that find me JUST OFFENSIVE ENOUGH, but not so bad as to keep reporting me to the FCC...Id love to be a Howard Stearn..but he's already got that spot filled). So..I just stick to the self and mental abuse of surrounding myself with nude crazy broads who never give me as much money as their contracts tell them to!!! Gotta love my life...got to....I DONT..but Im supposed to!!!!

I have this vision of you being one of the presets on my Sirius.....:thumbsup2

I think your show would be much more intelligent than Stearns, I really do not like him.

I agree with that, Scott. However, if radio pays as little in NOLA as it does in Florida, Rog's family would starve to death! I have two friends that did radio work (one in Nashville & one in Tampa) and you'd think they make the big $$$'s, but Rog is right. You don't get money until you get that BIG following. Most DJ's make their money doing store or event promo's.

We had a production company in Sarasota that did a lot of radio ads & music for TV ads that was always looking for vocalists. Just for the fun of it I went & auditioned, and was actually hired. I had this sweet, generic voice they were looking for. I was very excited until they told me what I would make. Now, this was back in the 80's, and the pay was peace-meal (no musician's union wages) & they would pay $15/recording session. A recording session can sometimes take HOURS!! I had this vision in my head of going in, singing, and leaving an hour later. Well, I had my vision blown apart in no time. I worked 3 evenings (not consecutive nites) on one jingle for 6 hours a night! The "Richard Cranium" that was paying for the production didn't like the "sound", and it looked like there was no end in site. When you divide $15 by 6, you didn't even pay for your gas to get there. That's when I wised up & said thanks, but no thanks. At that time, I could work 45 minutes of O.T. at the telco & make $15.

Richard Cranium?

:rotfl2:

That's there is funny. I don't care who you are.

TCD

That IS some funny stuff!!

Deb's exactly right....we used to have a local station do a live broadcast from our club when we used to have amatuer night. The DJs from the radio station freaked out when watching the girls tip me out at the end of their shift, and would always say they were definately in the wrong end of the business...of coarse they were still in awe of the nude aspect...but that only lasts for the first month or so. But thats what made me realize how little their pay was. They made 1500 a night from our club for the broadcast...had to split that 50/50 with the station...then their share of the 50% was split between the 3 that actually worked the show...so they made 250 each for the night, and that was their BEST gig!!! These guys have been around for a while and had a small but decent following.
