LOVE or HATE FP+ Anyone's mind been changed ??

We have been on two trips using FP+. Thought we would hate them. Actually like it now. I wouldn't say "love", but I'm OK with it. We were pros at arriving by park opening and getting way more than 3 FP's each day. We have just adjusted our touring to book FP's for late morning/early afternoon and ride standby when we arrive....before the parks start filling up. The main thing I dislike is having to book 60 days out.

Absolutely. It's appealing to some and not appealing to others. As I was reading your post I couldn't help but compare reserving FP's to making an ADR - and the thought occurred to me that FP actually goes a step beyond an ADR because not only are you choosing where (the park) you are choosing what (the attraction). I wonder how divisive the opinions would be if you also had to choose your appetizer, entree, and desert (wow, that's 3) when you made your ADR.

.

Don't you choose where and what with the restaurants? For up to 3 meals a day. More if you are hungry?

I was thinking in terms of where being the restaurant and what being the meal. Sort of like FP you pick the park first (where) and then three things to "eat".

I could almost visualize the next screen after picking the restaurant - choose one from this group, and then choose two from this group.

Steak and Lobster would be tiered, of course, you could only pick one or the other. But you could pick a salad AND a desert or a soup AND a salad but then not a desert...............

LOL! Could you imagine how upset some people would be? And there would be others who see a benefit to that because they don't have to waste time going over the menu and having to decide what to order, etc........

They are doing this now, with the BOG lunch ADRs I believe. They were doing it with the FP+ lunch option there, and I thought I recalled reading that they kept the pre-ordering option when they switched lunch to ADRs as well. I think it said something like you can preorder up to 5 mins before you arrive?

With the cut off being 5 mins before you arrive, I could actually see liking that. You could easily use the wait time at whatever attraction you're at right before your ADR to look over the menu and place your order while waiting in line. That's kind of appealing - for counter service lie BOG is at lunch anyway. For me, I think it would take away from a table service setting to do pre-ordering like that, so I doubt we'd do it in that scenario. But for BOG lunch ADRs, I could see it being nice.

There are so many variables in our park days - especially when we travel with our extended family - that it was less stressful *for us* to make decisions as we went than to try to make them 2 months prior and having to predict what those variables may be.
And this is the weight that sits on the other side of the scale. People often overlook the fact that FP- didn't dispense at random times. You knew before you inserted your ticket what the return time was going to be when the paper ticket spit out of the machine. If you didn't like that time, you didn't put your pass in. And Touring Plans had an app that told you what the real time return times were. So it wasn't like you couldn't plan your day. It is certainly easier to lock in a time now. But it is equally possible that once you begin your adventures for the day, the time that looked real good 2 months earlier is no longer convenient. And you have little chance of swapping it out for a different time. Pluses and minuses for sure.

Wow, I knew they were doing it when it was FP but I didn't know they carried that over to conventional ADR's as well? If so, I can't think of a lot of reasons why they wouldn't do that with others. Sure would help Disney to know what food stock requirements they had up to six months out because meals themselves were ordered in advance. Even if they allowed changes up to 5 minutes before arrival, that's still preference data that could be of value somehow.

Considering they just named a guy with absolutely no park experience whatsoever as chairman of Parks & Resorts, we may actually see more movement in that direction; Bob Chapek is the same guy who came up with the Disney "Vault" concept and has been overseeing consumer products and distribution for several years. Just the kind of guy who would like to know what you want to eat six months from now :)

Chapek named chairman

Who is Bob Chapek?

Then they could just put us all on conveyor belts and pour the food into our mouths as we roll on by. It's coming... ;)

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm right - just that it's two very different touring styles - and both of the are absolutely fine. But with such different views on what stresses one out and what relaxes another, there's not likely going to ever be a consensus.

Agreed. But those who like to plan on the fly got it their way for a very long time. All other reasons aside, it's our turn. :)

Like the BOG FP?

Still hate the required advance plan for each day, tiering, differennt advance times for resorts guests and annual passholders, running out of all good rides early in day, and running out at midnight 60 days ahead for headliners. Oh, and the 1,000 clicks to get anything done in MDE on PC or iPhone app.

I much prefer the old system of get FP as you go through the day and look ahead only 1-4 hours.

Jade, did you mean it never took you more than 30 minutes to get from USO to BLT or BC?

Yes-when you walk out of City Walk-the stairs go down to the right to the cabs (and not much further to the parking lot) but hop in a cab and go, right now its $43, 13 miles, 20 minutes.

I've waited for a bus from AK longer than that, luckily we do AK only one day each trip as well.

Pretty sure it deals with rush hour traffic from points east and northeast given where they are doing the construction.

I Found this article:

It would require further digging. Regardless, greatest impact would be to those seeking to enter town or leave town via that portion.

See I can never seem to find a map of the project.

It seems to read I4 from Universal to 417 (next to WDW), but I'm not sure.

Cool. He'll shutter POTC for a couple of years and then re-open it to much fanfare and charge extra to allow you the privilege of riding it again.

Here now and 2nd time using FP and not liking it more and more. Too much planning and with the weather being cooler had to change some things. Actually didn't use a lot of passes. Will have to use it for future trip in October, but will rethink any more trips for the next few years. I am usually relaxed here and doesn't ruin the trip, but feels off.

Cool - looks like Uber is only $16-$21 Universal to MK, door to door:

I've wondered about Uber there-I assume the "drop off" area would be the place to meet? Kinda heard they are sorta frowned upon down there.

I started using Uber here in Austin when they first rolled out. Now I look for them in every city I go to. My experience is the only ones who don't like Uber are cab drivers. :rotfl2:

I've had great luck with Uber in Orlando, and I've used it from MCO to the hotel and even within WDW from one resort to another (A ride from CSR to BC was like $5).

I'm thinking it would be better to have them drop us off at CR and we'd just walk over to MK.

so , if you have Uber drop you off at MK it will be at the TTC right? So the CR is closer?
