LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

Great episode! I'm very impressed with the writers incorporating Nikki and Paulo! Here we all hated them and it turns out they've been part of the show since day 1! Now I'm tempted to get out my season 1 DVD's and look for them.

You won't see them.

They were not there in season one. Watch last night's episode again, and when they show Nikki running around the crash site, you can tell the scene was "blue screened" in the background.

Get out season one, and do a side by side comparision to Jack's day 6 speech. I bet it won't be exactly the same.

I'm thinking maybe she was alive (and maybe not Paulo) due to the fact that she only got bit once and rann but she left Paulo with all the spiders coming so maybe he got bit several times and is actually died?

Just a thought.

Oh, I didn't think of that. I DID tell DH, though, that Nikki running and taking time to bury the diamonds was pretty unrealistic. When you run, your heart beats faster, so wouldn't that help the spider venom to spread faster and she shouldn't have had enough time to bury the diamonds or make it to the beach.

I just realized something, remember when Vincent pulled the cover off of Nicki and Paolo, he was probably trying to tell them they were still alive. So, maybe like me, they'll realize the next day what Vincent was doing and dig them out;)

I don't know if they'll realize the significance of what Vincent did when he pulled the blanket off them. It didn't occur to me until after the show, when WE know they were only paralyzed. The Losties still think they're dead.

The big question: will they be able to dig themselves out of the grave?

Last night there was a tornado that ripped through a small town not far from where I live. It hit about an hour before "Lost" While Lost was airing there
was live coverage on the tornado blocking the show. Can someone give me an overview on what Lost was about last night. We only got to see a few minutes here and there in between the reports.

Why don't you just go to the ABC website and watch it? It was a really good episode, so much you can't get from a 'recap" :)

I kind of enjoyed last night's episode. True, it didn't really "fit" with everything else, but it seemed to answer the question about "what have the other 30+ people been doing on the island this whole time" since we've been mostly focused on Kate/Jack/Sawyer/Hurley et al.

And now the Losties have a walkie-talkie and possible communication with the Others.

The big question: will they be able to dig themselves out of the grave?

It would be very unrealistic if they did. They are dead, they have 500 pounds of dirt over them, even if they were not weak from the paralysis, they can't breath.

No, I think Nikki and Palo's role on Lost had run it's course.

I have a question: have they ever resolved the season 2 cliffhanger with the guys in the listening post? I just realized this and as good as these episodes are lately, that one question just nags at me!
No they haven't even touched on that yet.
Why wouldn't Paolo and Nicki tell everyone about the hatch? Why wouldn't Paolo tell everyone they were being watched by people and there were other people on the island?
I liked that part actually. Everything has always been about Jack, Locke, Kate, Sayid and some others that are all "in the know" on the island. And that everyone else were just weary followers and stayed on the beach. I like how they showed them learning and finding all these things as well. And I liked that we had a timeline with this show. So we're at day 80 now.

There's another theory that the Others are the Losties in the future. And that Ben is Aaron. I'm not sure that works with any other timelines though.

Intersting (sorry, just got caught up this morning on last week's theories).

It could make sense...

1) The work that the blond (mind blank on her name) was doing in fertility is cutting edge - which could be in the future - so bringing her to the island in the future could be possible (although I don't remember what the cars looked like in her flashback)

2) Having so much information about the Losties would make sense if Ben/Aaron grew up listening to people's stories all his life.

Aaah, but as of now, nobody is sharing their life stories. As time goes by, and they adjust to life on the island, I can't see how everything in their past life would be revelent. I don't see Locke ever discussing what happened to him.

They're buried in the sand, right? Vincent could dig them up.

That's what is so hard for me to remember. It feels like Boone, Shannon, Artz and all have been dead forever, when for them it's only been a couple months :headache:

I do think Nikki and Paolo are dead, and will only return by way of flashback. But your comment got to wondering... is it more possible to breathe in loosely packed sand than it would be in other types of soil? Maybe enough for Nikki and/or Paolo to dig themselves out? :confused3 Maybe a dumb question, but does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Exactly - For 2 1/2 seasons one small group of survivors have been mysteriously led to all of these places and tonight we learn that a couple of murdering diamond thieves happened upon them long before. Guess there isn't anything "magic" about the island leading anyone to find the big clues.

I think this was just a chance to slow down a bit - we had three big episodes with lots of information to digest. This is a chance to let all that stuff digest for another week, tie up a handful of relatively small loose ends (Charlie's confession, Ben and Juliet's conversation filling us in on just how he manipulates people, etc), and maybe set up a couple future storylines.

I agree. Her eyes opened showing that the venom was starting to wear off, but she's still paralyzed. She'd be unable to dig herself out for some time, she'll suffocate long before she has use of her arms and legs. Same with Paolo.

My favorite part was, Sawyer--"Who the hell is Nikki?' And it was even more significant later.

I thought it was a great episode and I actually was pretty sure they were just paralyzed, but still wasn't prepared at the end!

I was a little confused why Nikki recovered first, but I also think that Paulo was bitten numerous times.

Good catch with Nikki being greeen screened in! i should've thought of that. Dh was all, "I can't believe they filmed the crash scene again!" lol

I think (and hope) that they are dead. I really didn't like them. I thought last night was a great way for them to get some fans back who were mad about these characters soming out of no where (which tiesd into Sawyers line) and I hope its not a jumping point for more episodes with Nikki (I think Paulo is definitely a goner).

I actually meant to have a ;) after my post, but I seriously do not think $8 million of diamonds are just going to stay buried. I mentioned Vincent because of the discussion earlier about him pulling the cover off of them, and Locke telling Paulo things don't stay buried on that island.

I don't care for Nikki or Paulo, so whatever they do with them is fine with me, but I don't think they finished their stories very well. More specifically, I mean there on the island and them practically finding everything and not even being curious about it :confused3

I don't know the answer to your question. It's certainly easier to dig sand, but with that much on top of them I don't know how they'd be able to move their hands. As for breathing, sand is looser than soil so you'd think there would be more air pockets, but they're probably goners.

I think maybe Nikki was able to run farther and recover first because she was bitten on the ankle, remember her telling Paulo that it should set in pretty fast since he was bitten on the neck? Did anyone else hear the monster when the spiders started crawling everywhere?

I just watched it again on Tivo and didn't hear the monster. It got quiet and she looked around then the music started. You had me wondering though. I never was able to hear what Nikki said when she collapsed on the beach so I watched it on closed captioning and saw she said "I'm paralyzed". AHHH! Watching the end made me squeal all over again. LOL That was a good ending!

Haven't read the whole thread, so maybe this has been mentioned, but does anyone recall what happened to Rose & her husband? I don't know if we missed something, but they haven't been around.

They've just faded into the background for now.

(sorry if mentioned somewhere)

Seems far fetched that after spending all this time on the island that everyone doesn't know everyone. It didn't seem like Sawyer just didn't know Nikki's name, but he acted like he had never even laid eyes on her when she asked him for the gun!

Sawyer not noticing a pretty girl, c'mon! (maybe they are going with the fact that he is so arrogant he hasn't noticed her or Paulo in the past few months) ? :confused3

do you guys have an opinion on people count (Losties) on the island, could there be so many that you wouldn't know everyone's name?

maybe I'm not paying good enough attention! :upsidedow
