LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

That's what I was wondering - I guess they could create any reason for a fictitious bug, LOL. Or perhaps when he slapped the spider it forced a lil extra venom into him?

I can't really comment too much on this - my extreme fear of spiders led me to LISTEN to this scene and not watch :rotfl2: So I'm not sure exactly how things happened if there is something that hints towards an explanation.

Was it a fictitiuos spider?

Does anyone remember the name of it, we need to investigate it if it is real. :cool2:

I thought he said he discovered several new species....but he also knew alot about that particular spider for it to be newly discovered....Medusa Spider wasnt it

Yeah it was the Medusa spider - everything I've read said it was fictitious. I'm taking other peoples' word for it because I REFUSE to research spiders :rotfl: That means I'd have to look at them :rotfl:

Before we kill off Paulo and Nikki remember what Locke said to Paulo earlier in the episode

"things don't stay buried for long"

could this be a clue????

Jimmy Kimmel just asked Kiele (Nikki) and she didn't even catch that. I'm guessing it's not any indication of those characters coming back since she seems pretty sure she's dead.

RE: Nikki and Paulo. I can't imagine the writers would create these new characters and go to the extreme of green screening AND brining back Boone and Shannon just to kill them off. I really believe they are both still alive and have a greater purpose, we just don't know it yet. If the writers really wanted to get them off the show, they could have just faded into the background and never mentioned again...like Rose and Benard.

mark my words....they will b back. I agree with what Locke said.

I could swear that there was another scene earlier in the season, when Nikki and Paolo first showed up where Sawyer kept saying something to Nikki about "Who are you"?

A week or two ago Nikki was helping set up the ping-pong table and Sawyer asked her "Who are you?" There was also one either really early this season or the end of last season where Nikki was there and Sawyer asked her then too.

I think the writers are getting more and more sloppy with flashbacks and continuity. If they have a remote idea about where this story is going, they need to plan more wisely

I actaully disagree with that. The writers have known form day one where the story is going. They have a 5year plan, always have. If you get a chance chek out the season one DVD bonus features...they discuss this in the interview with them.

Could there be something to the male/ female spider....I assume it was a female in the jar that bit Paulo and Nikki got bit by a male....Maybe a female has more venom....
ROFL!!! very true WOMEN Have way more Venom then men!

I think it's because Palo got bitten on the neck while Niki was bitten on the leg.

The Horned King I just noticed the lines in your signature. So funny!!! Hurley is the best!!!

That's strange because I heard an episode with them on the radio last year where they admitted they were making a lot of stuff up as they went along. It was Carlton Cuse who said this. They might know what they have in store for the island; however, with many of the characters the stories are inconsistent. For example, Claire's first flashback in which her baby's father says that her mom will disown her doesn't quite sit right when we are later told her mom is on life support and has been for years. Had Nikki and Paulo been planned, they would not have to have been digitally added to all the scenes last night, and Shannon and Boone would not have been made to wear the second and third worst wigs on the show ever (behind Jack's mullet) -- because these scenes would have already been shot. The wigs don't even match what their hair looked like at all (neither style nor color), so I'm wondering if the editors even go back and watch at all.

Yes, some things are made up on the fly, but the main storyline has been planned out since day 1. They have a general idea of where the character storylines are going, but the details they make up as they go obviously. They have to if they want to stretch it out. If the show would have lasted 3 years, a lot of those little stories would have to be cut. If ABC decided to contract them through 7 years they'd have to fill even more. They couldn't plan every tiny detail out not knowing how many hours they'd be filming when all is said and done or what actors would be available to them for how long.

Every TV show has inconsistencies. I'm amazed that with SO much detail and SO many storylines that there have been so few on this show. Gotta give them a break at some point - they're human, they'll make mistakes and overlook something at some point. My guess is that if there are discrepencies in any two episodes, if something was that easily overlooked, that it must not be that important to the overall storyline.

Daniel Roebuck(Dr. Artz) was interviewed on a local radio station yesterday. He said that he was surprised that the clothes he wore for Wed's episode were the same exact clothes he wore in season one. Seems to me, they must have known they were bringin Arzt back if they kept his clothes for two years. He also said that he will most likely make another guest appearance in the future. Very interesting.

Here is a link to an interesting article about Locke and how important his character is to the show:

I am inclined to agree with you....I think they make up elements as they go along, but they know where they are going...

Cheers,
Josh

They weren't there the first time, they reshot the parts of the scenes that show them there. Both Boone and Shannon were wearing wigs in their scenes.

I knew that was a wig! It looked so fake. How long would it take to sufficate if you were buried alive? Maybe someone will go looking for the diamonds and realize that they are still alive. I really don't want to see that scene. :scared1: At least nobody got the bleep kicked out of them this week. I really don't enjoy the violence, but love the show other than that.

That's what I said:

As I said, I think the writers need to be more careful. I still stand by that they have been sloppy with the writing/continuity and editing lately. I gave examples in the previous post. Are they important to the storyline? Maybe, maybe not. They are noticeable and that's what matters.

And weren't Ben and Juliet saying something about the door being left open, as they were walking in? I though I heard something like that, but I can't check right now.
This is what I heard also! I thought they came in the same way.:confused3

But the character stories ARE planned out to a degree and not that inconsistent. Are they going to hire someone on day one and say, "hey! Stand here for these shots then come back in 3 years and we'll put you to work again!" No. Especially when one of those actors is a huge actor in South America. That's not how TV works. They do casting as they need to. They didn't need a Nikki or Paolo a few years ago when they were casting for the pilot.

The Claire thing, people are still theorizing whether that was an actual inconsistency or not - a few theories floating around about whether her friends know about her mother, if she's in denial, etc. If it turns out to be an inconsistency, oh well. Most people won't (and didn't) catch things like that unless they're obsessively watching every detail. This is where the writers run into problems - people analyze every detail of the show, so things that would be overlooked on any other show is going to turn into huge internet debates on fan sites. The expectations are way too high - people expect nothing but perfection out of a TV show.

Just enjoy it for what it is - suspension of disbelief is a wonderful thing when watching a fictional show.

I just watched it and he said "who left this open?" and then she said "Tom was down here a couple of days ago" and then he said "why didn't he cover it up with the ????" I couldn't make out what he said but it sounded like plane or plank.

No such spider, it would seem. Googled it and only Lost came up.

But maybe they are supposed to be inconsistant. ;) Remember that Desmond keeps "saving" Charlie. Could be it is something like that.
