LOST - Last Season (NO SPOILERS)

but they are not the same time the are parallel times. They are 2 different times. Timeline 1 and Timeline 2.

Timeline 1 2007 = Ajera flight, Jacobs death, Losties in Temple on island
Timeline 2 2004 = island under water, Losties (the ones we saw) safe in LA, so when timeline 2 reaches 2007, they can't be on the island.

What ever happened in timeline 1 happened.
What ever happened in timeline 2 happened.

No paradox...2 separate realities that diverged from 1 reality in 1977 when the bomb went off.

Timeline 1 is not linear. It includes the first 1977-2004 that the Losties lived off island and then their return to 1977, the bomb and their jump to 2007. It also includes the Oceananic 6's off island time from 2004-2007

Timeline 2 appears to be linear.

Did they really land at LAX? The producers have said using LA X (with a space) was 100% intentional. Perhaps the plane didn't land in Los Angeles at all?

I just hope we get the answers we need at the end and it wraps up tidy where we are all happy.

So, a reasonable conclusion: The healing power of the island comes from the water. You can really work wonders if you go to the pure source -- the spring in the Temple -- but it percolates to some degree all over the island.

Other changes aboard the plane as compared to the original pilot:

Rose isn't wearing Bernard's wedding band on her chain second time around. Not likely a continuity error, because she made a big deal about it the first time through. It was almost as if the universe knew they weren't going to be separated this time, so Rose wouldn't need to have it as a sort of talisman.

Cindy gives Jack one bottle of vodka, as opposed to two the first time. Almost as though the universe knew Jack wouldn't need the second bottle to sterilize his wounds, since the plane wasn't going to crash.

"Side Two Sayid" has an Iranian passport, not Iraqi.

Locke tells Boone of his adventures in Australia. Did this version of Locke actually get to go on his walkabout? I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised if Locke had gotten up and walked off the plane this time.

Was Claire pregnant when we see her in the taxi?

She said that to distinguish Oceanic 815 from Ajira Airways Flight 316, which is the more recent plane on the island.

Missed that about Sayid. But yes Claire was pregnant.

New theory: The reason that in the main timeline the 70s losties flashed to 2007 was becuase it was right when Jacob died. It seems like Flocke and the others at the giant foot are during the same time as the ones who flashed after the bomb went off, but why then? Why that day? I think this makes the most sense. Maybe why Jacob said, "they're coming."

Did anyone else notice that the pilot of the plane seemed like it was the same from the pilot?? Greg Grunberg I mean.

I understand what the other poster is saying though. We keep saying that it would make most sense for these two timelines to merge somehow or have a link from the alternate timeline to the main timeline. But how would they do that? My original idea was that the island was the same in all timelines. And that it was a place that crossed all realities. But if the island is underwater how exactly would that work? Doesn't that sort of eliminate any crossover of these alternate reality stories/people from merging with our main timeline characters/storyline?

This show is too damn confusing! I am totally LOST right now and even after reading these explanations, I can't figure out what is going on. I shouldn't be surprised because I think the producer of the recent Star Trek movie is the same as LOST...and he appears to be obsessed with time travel and parallel universes and whatnot.

Have they explained what the smoke monster is? Is it a creature that has a name or is it something they completely made up?

The show is nowhere as confusing as the mass theories!! :lmao:

I love the writing of Lost, it makes people THINK. And the thoughts they come up with is based on their own worlds.

Hitchcock used to do this, it's a remarkable skill.

I love taping the show and watching it over after reading the theories, there is always something I missed.

I cannot help but see the side by side comparisons of MIB and Jacob, brings to mind Satan and Jesus. Satan ALWAYS finds a loophole and Jesus allowed himself to die for a purpose. Interesting. :surfweb:

It was him. As soon as I heard him speak I turned to DH and said "It's Matt PArkman...wasn't he the pilot originally...got sucked out the window in the jungle by Smokey?" Dh looked at me and said "Good ear!"

Regarding the flashback/forward/sideways stuff, all I can think of is the movie "Funny Farm", where the wife is reading the husband's manuscript and lamenting how confusing it is.."On the first page I counted two flash backs, a flash forward and I even think I saw a flash sideways!"

Was Sun wearing her ring? Or was Jin wearing his wedding ring? DFiance is saying that they referred to Sun as Ms Paik not Kwon (her married name). I didn't notice this.

In Korea, it is very, very unusual for a married woman to take her husband's last name.

Yea, you're right. I thought about it and I must have missed the part about Jin saying he got a time travel-esque headache. So it's probably more like they time traveled to 2007. I'm guessing that in this timeline the bomb doesn't go off? Becuase the swan was still there until Desmond blew it up? Something like that? I don't understand how they can just randomly time travel like that. Maybe it was a course correcting type thing.

Thats a good idea. But where would they get sucked to is the question.. since the island is under water.

Kinda like in back to the future (first movie.. def. my favorite of the three). It would be like if you imagined that how the family started (weak Dad, alcoholic Mom, etc) existed in a timeline BUT then the other timeline how he ended up (strong Dad with book deal, rich family, Biff's all weak and cowardly).. that they BOTH existed in two different parrallel timelines. I think that's how it would work. But I don't know how they would merge. I imagine this information in alternate timeline is important so I'm guessing they must merge at some point. But how?

First plane.. Oceanic Flight 815.. Meaning not the second plane Ajira Airways 316. I guess those are the only two she would really know about. I think we'll eventually find out but I think it just said there names and that bad things would happen if Sayid wasn't saved. So that temple people wouldn't kill them and would try and save Sayid. Meaning Jacob knew this would happen (to some extent I guess). Does that mean he knew he was going to die?

Okay. But weren't they also on that flight, Ajira 316?

I don't know, but I'm thinking that - and I hope I can explain it :lmao: - that they did time travel but to 2004. They are on the island with themselves after flight 815 crashed. There are two of them there but on different parts of the island. Kind of like what you said about Back to the Future (also my favorite of the three) when Marty went back to see himself before he went back into time. Whew!!! Headache here. It may be wrong. Even while I'm typing this I'm thinking that this can't be true. Just thought I could through this out there. :goodvibes

WELL I think the stewardess would say they were on the first plane because none of them actually landed on the island with the second plane. I mean.. some were technically on the plane but they were zapped out into 1976 so when it landed they weren't there. I imagine she wouldn't know that they were on the flight. Plus, Sawyer was only on the first flight, so it might have just been easier to say first flight, that is the only one all of them were on at the same time (right?).

Maybe just so you can make the connection that she was on the plane with them (Oceanic 815) so you know where she ended up (FINALLY!).

Unless airplane John IS (or later turns into) creepy smoke monster John. And then dead John is just dead John.

But how depressing would that be?

That would be very depressing to me, since Locke is my favorite character. I don't like to see him so evil......

You are right!! It makes sense now. I forgot about Sawyer not being on that flight and some of them were zapped out before it landed. Thanks!! :goodvibes

I think the pilot said they were begining their decent into Los Angeles International Airport but :confused3 I'll rewatch later tonight to be sure.

Yes, well yes in Lost terms. The smoke monster = the man in black = new Locke. If course it is something they completely made up :confused3 it is a science fiction TV show.

You can't look for real world explanations.

What about the 12 tribes of Israel? Jacob's 12 sons, with the last being Benjamin? Is it possible that another character could be representative of Jacob's fraternal twin brother, Esau?

EDIT: Could the numbers represent scripture?

Ok I started to rewatch the episode and I noticed that it looked like Desmond was wearing a wedding ring. I can't find any good screencaps of it but it really looked like it was. I think you can see it So does that mean maybe he is a vision from the other main timeline and thats his ring with Penny? Or is he married in this alternate timeline to someone else?

Also someone else said that neither Jin nor Sun are wearing wedding rings. Whether or not she should be referred to as Ms Paik aside, were they not wearing them? I haven't gotten that far into rewatching it yet. Some theories are that they aren't married in this alternate timeline.

ETA: Anyone know where you can find good screencaps? I usually go to Dark UFO's site but I haven't seen any of the ones I want.

I was going to ask what people thought about Desmond being there and then disappearing but now I'm even more confused than before. :)

I do hope that they explain what happened to Claire on the island. That has always puzzled me. The Charley thing is interesting too especially his comment that he was supposed to die.

I guess that Michael will pop up soon too. And the dog? I wonder if Eko and Daniel Faraday will appear?

I hope they all do, but especially Faraday. I need someone to explain all this time-traveling, sideways flashes madness for me.

Thank you for explaining so well. I think I've agreed with everything you've posted! (except this next thing)

What about the 12 tribes of Israel? Jacob's 12 sons, with the last being Benjamin? Is it possible that another character could be representative of Jacob's fraternal twin brother, Esau?

EDIT: Could the numbers represent scripture?

You beat me to it. My theory is that the island is a whole bunch of important things. I think the water is the fountain of youth. We've got Jacob and Esau. Plus the Egyptian connection with the picture of Smokey. Plus the temple looks Mayan to me, not Eqyptian.

Now more things that struck me.

1. Don't forget about Penny's dad. I think he's going to be EXTREMELY important.
2. I don't think that Sayid is now Jacob. I'm pretty sure that every dead person we have seen has been Esau (the man in black/smokey). I think it's an evil thing and Jacob wouldn't do it. When he touches the Losties, he always appeared as himself.
3. Whatever Juliet said right before she died is important...not the, "I have something to tell you..." When she sounded incoherant and James got upset. I think she was connecting with herself in the other timeline.
4. I hate Kate, but found it interesting that at the very beginning of the episode, when she saw Jack and Sawyer down on the ground, she went to Jack. There was this second where they paused to make it dramatic and I said to DH, "She BETTER go to Jack first!"

Looking forward to sharing the season with you all again. I won't be around as much, because we have the little one taking up time.
