Hi guys,
I'm the one who asked the original question about the glue seeping through and I'm back to report that I now have 5 Mickey swirl shirts that look AWESOME!
I did use the glue (just plain ol' Elmers) and let it dry completely. It does seep into the shirt and it does spread, so you have to space your swirl lines enough to allow for the spread. Once it was completely dry, I spritzed it with Tulip fabric spray from Michael's - it was a 4 pack of pink, blue, yellow and green. I used two colors on each shirt.
Once the paint was dry, I washed the shirts by hand in the the sink to get the glue off. Then I let them dry and sit for a couple of days before I washed them in the machine. They look great!! The Tulip paints are very bright and the color stayed true even after washing.
I shouldn't have second guessed myself. I was on the right track, I just needed to be more careful with the glue thickness! Give it a try! They're adorable!
I'll post my pics when I have a little bit more time.

) After it dried, I reapplied the glue, leaving more space between the swirls and using less glue. The glue did seep completely through -- even stuck to the tray I was using as a separator. I DID NOT use a second coat - one was enough. Once the glue dried completely it does provide the coverage to block the dye, and it was super easy to remove after the fabric paint dried. I just ran it under hot water and rubbed!
. For some reason I pictured the paint as an aerosol even though I clearly saw the pump sprayer and the pump did not want to cooperate with me. I really dont think they look very good at all right now but am holding out hope that once the glue is washed out of them they will look better. I am so frustrated right now.......
