Looking for the Family Fun Mickey Head design

I added pictures at this link if you want to see, step by step. Also, I used regular tie dye that I mixed up and put in an old spray bottle from perfume. If you do it this way, you could probably just wash off the flour goop, because I didn't heat set the tie dye. I peeled off the flour, but then I rinsed and washed the shirts just like you do with regular tie dye.

My post with pictures is number five on the first page.

Here are the shirts I made. It was really easy.

I made sure to mix the flour in so there were no lumps. Next time, I think I'll make the lines a little thicker. In a few spots, the lines were a little thin and the dye sorta seeped under, mainly in my ears. Those were also the areas I sprayed a little more dye because it was a little light there...I may have used a little too much dye in that area.

There will be seven of us going in Sept, and this will be much easier than doing the Mickey tie-dye.

I did two more shirts today. This time, I made the lines a little thicker and made sure to let the flour lines dry longer so the dye didn't soak in underneath. I remembered that I was supposed put the shirts in the dryer right after I put them in the washer, but I pulled them out, rung them out and they are now in the dryer. So far, it doesn't look like the dye has transfered onto any other parts of the shirts.

I used s.e.i. Tumble Dye that I got a Hobby Lobby. It comes in little 2 oz spray bottles. It's very easy to use. This time is used orange and blue together and orange and yellow.

An FYI for anyone thinking about buying this dye...the red is not very red. Here is a link to their color options.

The red I bought is almost identical to the magenta and I will be taking it back. Our store didn't have the green, but I do have the light blue, yellow, orange, and magenta.

Sorry to jump on the end here, with another question, but these shirts are adorable!!
What type of spray fabric dye did you use? Our craft store had two kinds - aerosol spray and the pump spray kind. They were pretty expensive, so I got a 4 pack of green / pink / yellow / orange of the pump spray, and am hoping they will work!!
How did you "spray" the design? One color in a circle, and then another around it, did your two colors overlap, would that be okay?
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to giving this a try!!

I used the pump spray kind - Tulip brand. I got a 4 pack too! The 4 pack is probably enough to do 50 shirts! The way I did it was to spray the color I wanted over the mickey head flour mixture - be sure to use alot if you want it dark. Then spray another color around that. The first color doesn't have to be dry. They will overlap and that is fine. It's so easy once you do it. Have fun!:goodvibes

Sounds like the exact same thing I got. Thanks for replying so quickly. We are going to try to make our this weekend, as we leave next saturday.
Thanks again!

I love this forum, I've found so many things to use for our disney trip!

I wanted to show what I did! :) They definitely aren't perfect but they are still cute. I wish I had chosen brighter colors though. I used a shampoo squeeze bottle so my lines are pretty thick and goopy. And my spirals aren't that wonderful either LOL.

But here: see for yourself! (These are two of the kid ones, I still need to make a baby one and mine and hubby's)

Those look great!! :thumbsup2

What do you use for a pattern? I can do the swirls, but I can't get them in the right Mickey shape. :confused3

Has anyone tried the simply spray fabric spray paint for this project? I found this when searching online and bought some yesterday at Michaels. There was a demo video of using this on the web and it looked super easy. If anyone has tried this let me know???

I just took a bunch of bowls and cups from the kitchen and traced them on paper until I got just the right combo. Then I lightly penciled the circles on the shirts. To be sure that I spaced the ears properly apart, I made a Sharpie mark on the big bowl and the little bowl so that they would line up when the circles were placed just right. That way all of my shirts were even. The only "lining up" consideration I had to make was to be sure that one of Mickey's ears didn't line up directly on top of one of my breasts!!

Wish I could post photos of mine. They came out GREAT! I just wish I had made them all the same color... but I was trying to get everyone's favorite colors. DH's was navy/red, DS's was orange and red, and DD and I used pink and purple (which were almost the same color). They look great, but didn't coordinate well together.

A big thanks to the OP and all of the folks who posted helpful suggestions on this thread! I LOVED our shirts!.........................P

Here's one of the shirts I made. I used Elmer's glue instead of the flour/water mixture and it worked really well!
