Looking for the Family Fun Mickey Head design

Tomorrow is the day I can wash my 1st attempt at this. I hope to post a picture when I finish!

okay so you think if i rinse them off so i can see them today since they're dry I"ll be okay?

I'm dyin here lol

I have been lurking for the past several weeks. I haven't done this project yet and I haven't read all the posts but (suggestion) when I do try it, I will probably do the first rinse with cold water and vinegar. In the 1970s, when everyone was into tie-die, we rinsed everything out, that first time, with cold water and vinegar and the vinegar set the bright colors. The only thing is, I am not sure what the glue will do (if anything) if you leave it on there through the first rinse with vinegar. :confused3

ACK!!!

I just got around to spray painting the t-shirts and I think I may have ruined them :(. For some reason I pictured the paint as an aerosol even though I clearly saw the pump sprayer and the pump did not want to cooperate with me. I really dont think they look very good at all right now but am holding out hope that once the glue is washed out of them they will look better. I am so frustrated right now.......
How did they turn out?? Can you post a picture?? :goodvibes

Okay people. Here's our shirts. And some advice following if you want to do the glue method..

DD's..

DS's

Mine (my least favorite..not so much cuz of the mickey head..which I thought was kinda unique..but because of how I painted it :( )

DH's..he MUST be unique :P..He decided on doing more than one mickey head..so when he was at work I painted his even MORE uniquely (And I wish I'd done it to mine!)

SO, the tips with the glue..well..actually we're gonna try the flour tonight. We weren't fans of the glue. While it ends up ok, it does stick to the cardboard and gets pretty messy when you have to pick it all off. Also, if you notice ESPECIALLY on my DD's (the first) it looks REALLY ruffely..the glue was just not cooperating! It tended to go on the shirt and then pull together, creating spots that didn't have glue! Soooo it works, probably easier to do glue just cuz of no mixing, but I didn't looooove having to fill in gaps.

Also we used the tulip paint..I shook them all the same amount. The black one had a great sprayer. The pink one WAS HORRIBLE. Total circle spray, awful. That's why my shirt turned out so ..blah.

Also, this paint is great. We only let them dry today..so like 12 hours. Because of the cardboard I got them wet to pick it off and decided to toss them in the washer (with detergent!) and they're still nice and bright.

I love the two heads with the different colors - THAT is a fantastic idea!! :thumbsup2 So cool!

I just wanted to add my two cents about the glue...I put all of my shirts on a cookie tray, so I didn't have to worry about it sticking to the cardboard. When my glue did the "ruffely" looking thing, I went back over it again and kind smoothed it out with the tip of the glue bottle -- spreading out all of the blobs into a more uniform looking line. I opted not to try the flour/water mix because I just thought it would make more of a mess and take longer to dry...I'm so impatient, I even put the glued ones in front of a fan! Just my two cents for what it's worth!

I just wanted to clarify that with the glue, it's not the same as the flour mixture. You don't have to pick it off. It's washable (at least if you use Elmers) so just toss it in the washer. Mine did stick to the cardboard, but it peeled right off.

Yeah I tried to smooth out the glue and it still dried like that overnight?! I was sorta sad but I still like them.

I had to pick off the cardboard, yes. Not the glue!! There'd be no way HAHA But a lot of the cardboard didn't come off so it did wash off..I just hope my plumber husband doesn't find out :O

Hi!! Well I was away for a week and am finally caught up with the laundry and stuff so of course the first thing on my mind was my t-shirts....

I let them sit to dry for about 10 days since I was going away. The cardboard was stuck completely to the backs of them (I used Elmers glue) but most of it peeled right off and the rest came off in the wash.

My problem is that the dye is sort of lumpy.....I am trying to pull the lumps off but they are all over!! I washed them quite a few times because I have one of those new washing machines that "sense" how much water you need for a load of laundry.....I cant seem to get it to fill up the tub and just soak!! I know - user error but I am still learning. (not sure I would recomment this washer to anyone).

Anyway....once I manage to get the "lumps" off I will post a photo.

Anyone have any ideas to make the de-lumping go faster? I dont have the patience for this..lol

Hi All~
I went to the craft store today and got the 6 shirts and paints I need to make the Mickey design. Shirts were $2 each and paints on sale for $2.99 each. The first shirt I did the glue started to seperate, I did use a paint brush to even it out but threw it and the others in the washer. I was thinking maybe it was the sizing stuff they put on things during manufacture that caused it to seperate. They are currently washing, then I am going to dry them and try again. Hopefully this will help. If not I guess I will just have to sit watch as they dry and fix the seperations with a brush...could be a LONG night.(me in am after watching glue dry) These are so cute, I hope mine turn out.

I absolutely love these shirts!!!
They look easier than the tie-dye and not as messy.
I can't wait to try it. Thanks again for all the hints and suggestions from every one!

OK, I did the glue on the washed shirts it still seperated, so I just took a small paint brush and went over the glue lines to make them look more even. When I went to spray the shirt...in a hurry as usual...I missed the spot I was trying to hit. Since it looked silly having a blob of misplaced paint I went ahead and sprayed the entire shirt, lightly with one color and hit the Mickeys with another. By 'Mickeys' I mean the one on the front and I also added one to the sleeve. I am trying to make each on a little different. I will try to get some pics and let you all see them.

Here's our attempt! My 4 and 7 year old helped with these! We used Elmers glue and Simply Spray fabric spray paint:

I love this idea. Everyone's shirts are so unique and I really like them all.
This may be an idea to take further and use in my preschool class for a gift for parents.

Also I loved the idea of adding the child's name to the shirts. Too cute

Well, I know it has been some time since I posted about my results.

The first shirts I did, were horrible. I think everything that I could have done wrong, I did. Long story short, I decided to try the color block that was mentioned before. Wow - that stuff is great. Put it on, let it dry, spray the paint, let it dry, wait the 3 days and wash! No rinsing, no scrubbing, nothing. It was kinda expensive at $5 for a small bottle (which is probably enough for 3 or 4 shirts) but worked wonderfully.

I wish that I was able to get white PJ's but the light grey ones were the lightest solid color PJ's I could find. Here are the pics...
