Looking for the Family Fun Mickey Head design

What kind of paint did you use, the colors are really vibrant! It looks great, I am going to try it with the elmers glue as well, any tips??

Thanks! I used Tulip Cool Color Spray. No tips for Elmer's Glue - it's that easy. If you don't like how the glue looks once you get it on just wash it and start over. Make sure it dries fully before you spray.

I will say, this was like my third shirt like this and if you let it sit with the paint on for two days or more before you wash it, it stays much brighter than if you wash it shortly after it's dry. It's hard to be patient though! I also used ALOT of paint.

Here's what it looked like right after I sprayed it. I don't know if you can tell, but I sprayed it really close and used a lot.

Looks great- I will definitely use the glue! I have a friend using the flour water solution on shirts at Bible School this week. If I have a chance I'll post pictures...I'm co-directing Bible School then heading to the beach for a week so I am a little crazy and it may be a few days before I get a chance.

I used the Elmer's glue also. So much easier than trying to mix the flour and water plus I always have glue on hand.

Here is a picture on my DH and DD wearing the shirts I made for our recent DL trip.

Probably a silly question but do you think this would work on a sweat shirt as well?? We are going in Dec and I would love to make the kids hoodies to take. Just not sure if the fabric paint will work. I was thinking of trying the shoe pattern design from family fun for sweatshirts but I think that is so much cuter!

Just my opinion but I would think it would work. The fabric paint should work on a sweatshirt, too. I would think that the glue or flour would also work...

Here is a picture of one of ours. I found that the wider you make your swirls the better it comes out.
Oh and I actually used this stuff I found at michaels- it was on sale for $3 (instead of the glue) It was enough to make 5 shirts.

oh and it is red in person not neon:rotfl2: One more thing I glittered dd's shirt and something I learned- SPRAY FABRIC GLITTER does not work!! It clogs the sprayer and I ended up just painting it on. (a little stiff but dd loves it)

These are amazing!! I'm certainly making these for our trip. And the pattern will be a huge help! I was wondering how I was going to make the Mickey head free hand so I'm thankful for the pattern! Now I've got to get shirts and paint and give this a shot!

Can I ask a stupid question? It looks so easy...but I guess I'm just missing something.:(

I put Elmers Glue on the t-shirt and set it aside to dry. I went back and the glue seeped into the shirt (and all over the board I had separating the two layers) and all ran together. Did I just use too much or did I just do it all wrong?? :confused3

Thanks!

I can not help you here - but i to would like to know this so I do not do the same thing when I make mine. LOL!

When I did it the glue had seeped all into the shirt too. Do you mean, though, that the glue seeped together and you don't have any more lines and it looks like a big blob? As long as the lines are still separated, I don't think it matters. My short kind of stuck to the cardboard because the glue had seeped though. It still worked though.

I drew these using a couple of bowls and a stick of sidewalk chalk. I used flour & water paste in a mustard bottle but it was really hard to peel off--in fact when the kids tried to peel it off they ripped a 2 inch hole in DH's shirt which I kind of fixed with an iron-on patch on the inside.

The kids wanted just plain white swirls but I persuaded DD that a pink bow for her Minnie head would be cute. DH wanted his "psychedelic"--it's the Tulip 4 pack of neon colors over a white background.

I also made a set on gray t-shirts but they didn't come out as well as these.

A DISer saw us at Pop Century and asked whether we'd gotten the design from these boards--we were in a rush and didn't have time to talk.

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures and tips for making these! We got a number of compliments on them.

I have to admit that you've got me hooked on giving it a try. Am going to do 4 shirts for the family as a surprise for our trip to DL in Feb/09. If they turn out any good will post them. Have a great day!!:goodvibes

This is such a great idea!! I can't wait to try it!!!

Thanks for the idea. :cool1:

We just had the same problem, it was a BIG old mess  . I'll try something else next time...

I plan to make these, and it sounds like the homemade paste is a bit messy and some aren't having good results with the glue. I searched Michael's website and found the following link that describes a similar project: http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=e02302. It sounds like there's a product made by Tulip - "cool color block". I couldn't actually find it at Michael's online, but found it here: http://www.duncancrafts.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=bee46b56-0013-4ba3-b8eb-f37453ca3809, and I think I could find it at the store at Michael's. Has anyone tried this? I really want something that would wash out instead of having to peel off.

Would the paste wash off instead of having to be peeled off? Has anyone tried that?

I love the Mickey Head designs. With all the problems with the glue, has anyone tried cutting their shape from cardboard or a thick foam paper, laying that on the shirt, and then spraying over it. When it's removed it will give the same effect, with nothing to peel off and ruin the shirt.

Could you use wax paper between the cardboard and t-shirt if you used the glue? It seems like something like that could keep the glue from seeping into the cardboard insert and/or back side of the shirt???

When I used the glue, it did seep through to the cardboard, but when I pulled it, it came right off (even though it was stuck to it) and it wasn't a problem at all. It didn't ruin the shirt itself or the paint.
