Hi everyone!

I have been thinking of this thread because a few days ago we were watching Mary Poppins and guess what Bert says? "Bob's Your Uncle" :)

I am busy this week cause I own a bookstore (we are closing in a few weeks) but of course Saturday is Harry Potter day! Is anyone else a Harry Potter fan?

Yvette

Yvette - did he ask if Fanny's your aunt?:lmao: (Tessa, I bet I got that wrong!)

How cool to own a bookstore! I hope that you're OK that it's closing, that it's not a bad thing.

We love Harry Potter at our house! We aren't going to be out in the madness   tomorrow night, but we are anxious!

We are Binkie Free since July 3rd!!!!Never thought it would happen. Yayyy, McKenna! We were sweatin' that one.

Pam - CONGRATS! Just be glad it was a binkie, and not the ole fingers, that cannot be taken away! DD9 sucked on hers (and used a stroller at WDW) until she was over 6 yrs. old! I don't keep good notes or baby books, and I cannot remember when she gave up the fingers and "blankie", but I don't think it was long after our 2003 WDW trip. I do know it was before the 2005 trip, but she still sleeps w/"blankie" on occasion. I know, I know...but she's our baby.

On the stoller thing - she did not use one for our 2005 trip when she was 8 because my IL's were w/us, but she always complains of being tired and not wanting to walk after 15 mins. anywhere we are. There's nothing physically wrong w/her. We love her DEARLY, but she's our little complainer. My fault for babying her, I know, I know...

Quick hint....
when I know my post is going to be longer than usual I type it out in WORD. For one I can use spell check and the other reason is so that it doesn't ever get lost forever on the DIS.

Oh, I'm quite the poster today, aren't I? Hope ya'll don't mind!

Debbie - I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that does that!!

I posted my first POTD today!! :cool1: I can't keep my eyes open when I am going thru the thread late at night (I get up at 5:30am!), so I decided to go ahead and do it before I finished making it all the way thru.

The ones of yours that I have seen are great! Your kiddos are absolutely adorable, and I love the princess dresses that you put your DD in! I wish I could still get away w/the princess dresses.princess:princess:

Well, I've been known to pack too much and bring too large of a suitcase (have yet to be charged extra, but almost). We might be able to squeeze you in somewhere in November....;)

Do you create trip reports? I'd love to hear about it!

I'm going to work on one (gonna' do the MicroSoft Word thing like Debbie), and post it soon!

Pam2.......I still have a "blankie!" OK..I am the baby of the family (well a big baby at 36) and I have attachment isues. :o) I can't sleep with out it or my favorite pillow...I stuffed that thing in an extra suitcase w/ some more clothes (good excuse to bring another suitcase!) My DD used a double disney stroller when she was 7. Not alot though..just when she was tired..she sprawled out...and when not in use..it held all my shopping bags.

Anyone watch Victoria Beckham: Coming to America? I LOVED it!!! She seems rather funny and fun to watch. She rarely smiles in photos, but the show was funny. Poor thing..she went to this luncheon with some "Beverly Hills Socialites." My gosh..they were really old ladies making dolphin noises and in a house that looked like Liberace X10. Major ruby red lipstick everywhere. What a great impression :rotfl2: . They were throwing back the :drinking1

I just love how you UK folks talk: Do you fancy him? Can you see my knickers? For those of you in the UK..can you tell us some of your "sayings" over there?

Pam

Hiya all,

Pam - you are going to see some major differences between our cultures if you watch Posh and Becks as they are known over here. Drinking in the UK has become a major hobby - particularly amongst the young (18-24) agegroup. Not just social drinking - the odd pint of beer/ glass of wine, but binge drinking any/everything for 4/5 hours!!!!

Not for me though, I hasten to add- I'm the daughter of a dead alcoholic - that kind of puts you off......

Anyhow Posh (from her spice girl days) is lampooned a bit over here for her lack of talent at anything except snaring a rich hubby, whilst Becks is lampooned for his lack of intelligence. (though one has to say they have not done too badly from it!!)

Some of our sayings.... mmmmm.... one of them doing the rounds (cos of comedy shows here ) is
"Does my bum look big in this"
also, if someone is a bit dim or nuts we have LOADS of sayings - "He's a sandwich short of a picnic" is my favourite
Do you have "as thick as 2 short planks"???
Sayings vary according to region too. Up North (pronounced oooop North)
I've heard "That's reet champion" for "that's good" for instance. Mind you - you lot in the states must have a few....

"Howdy folks" "Have a nice daaaaaaaayy" come to my mind. And I looove some of the accents over there - like in the detective series when they talk about moyda instead of murder (where does that accent come from??)

We should make up our own saying and see how long it takes to spread to "the outside". Mind you our Aussie member should be able to add some HILARIOUS sayings if the Aussie soap operas are anything to go by!!

Anyhow, to keep you up to date with the UK pastime... it's still raining - rained ALL night - around 6cm fell here (we have a straight sided bucket in the garden which I can see from here.... it was empty yesterday...)
Got to go pick up mum from Birmingham airport (that's Birmingham UK!! - not the one in the US that we learn about in Social History classes at school), lets hope there are no floods on the way..

Tessa

"Moyda" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: that very thick and heavy accent would come from New York City and probably nearby New Jersey area. It's almost a whole different language there.

So Posh and Becks are pretty much the equivalent of Paris Hilton it sounds like. American's probably like them because they are good looking and like to hear stories about them (as in Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Tom Cruise, etc) Plus I think Americans like to hear the different accents and phrases. For me, I am smitten with Austrailian men. Love the accent and there's just something else about them. If I wasn't married, I'd probably move there!

Regions here also have different ways of saying things too. I grew up in Pennsylavnia (living in Virginia for the past 15 years) and there was a "slang" language there....I laugh when I hear or say it, but my accents/phrases have to changed to a more "southern" way just because I've picked it up.

Here's some things that people used to say where I came from in PA:

http://www.coalregion.com/Speak/speakH.htm

There's practically a whole dictionary on there...the link I posted is on the "H" s. Debbie, Pam2, Sewer, etc. you all should read it too.. Maureen...do you talk like that being from Jersey? I find when I go up home that I tend to pick it up after a day.

Pam

:) It never bothered me that Taylor sucked her fingers, or has the blankie. About the special pillow - I could rest my head on a rock and sleep, anywhere, any time... :cloud9:

Good! It will get me even more anxious for our Nov trip!

Anyone watch Victoria Beckham: Coming to America? I LOVED it!!!

Pam

Didn't see it, but I love keeping up with the stars and seeing the most recent pictures and stories. I have to admit I have had subscriptions to Star and Enquirer for a few years now. It's my bathtub reading! I know not to believe 1/2 of what's in them, but they're fun! I love People and some others, too, but my mom always got Star and Enquirer, and it's what I grew up with! Plus, I can get both of them for less $ than one People mag!:rotfl2:

Got to go pick up mum from Birmingham airport (that's Birmingham UK!! - not the one in the US that we learn about in Social History classes at school), lets hope there are no floods on the way..

Tessa

Tessa - I hope that your mom arrived safely (I love the way you all say mum), and is having a good time. Enjoy your weekend! How long will she stay?

:flower3:
Pam2

For me, I am smitten with Austrailian men. Love the accent and there's just something else about them. If I wasn't married, I'd probably move there!

Pam - I'm with ya! I think also nice are the Irish, English, New Zealand accents. I like them all! Oooh, la, la!

I love it! I found something that I am familiar with - halupkies or galumpkies, something my Polish grandma makes, and we love! We call them galumpkies, and there's even a link to the recipe, and it's what she makes! Very cool!

When we visited Texas for the first time in 1977, we were living in Michigan, and were originally from Illinois. We were traveling with my aunts, uncles and cousins from Illinois. My cousins and I thought that the Texans spoke another language! We laughed hysterically at their accent! :lmao: I have lived here since I was 12, and have picked up quite a Texas accent, and I don't think that the Texans talk funny any more! My cousins get a kick out of our accents, and have for years now. They laugh at my "ya'll". :rotfl2: When I come home from visiting Illinois, my husband thinks that I have picked up some of their accent somewhat.

Night night all! Have a wonderful weekend!!:daisy:
Pam2

Pam2: Yes! Halupkis, Potato Pancakes (Bleenies), Pierogies, Nutrolls, Haluski, and my fave...kolaches!!! I FINALLY found a great recipe for those cookies with the nut filling and the cream cheese pastry dough. I made them a few times and (of course no one around here knew what they were) now every Christmas my DH's family beg me to make my homemade candy and the kolaches.

I know about the accent....when I'd go back home to visit when my parents were alive, I'd go to the pizza place that alot of us went to in high school. As soon as I opened my mouth I said Ya'll have any __ left? Every head in the place would turn including the customers. :lmao: I'm like..I'm one you's guys, I just have a little southern drawl now!

Wow did we have a BAD day yesterday!!! Well, you know we were picking up my mum from the airport..... it was a day the floods took over our life!!!!

Birmingham airport is 1 hour from our house - we took 3 to get there as it rained non stop for about 14 hours before hand - mum's plane was delayed and arrived 10min after we did - so that was good.......

But then on the way home...... 3 hours to go 8 miles!!!! traffic nose to tail surface water everywhere.... Then after our last loo stop (don't normally need one) the road was CLOSED WITH US and 10,000 others STILL ON IT!!! This was at 11pm - we had set off to pick her up at 12 midday - it opened again at 5.30 am and we got home by 6 (18 hours for a 2 hour round trip!!).... All the lanes were 4ft in water -which was why they closed it - we saw cars floating in lane 1 on the way back through (lanes 2 and 3 opened at 5.30)
We had to sleep in the car with mum and the 2 little ones.... horrendous is a fairly good description!!! Thank goodness we have an MPV... Lucky we had a tub of biscuits (cookies) and some crisps(potato chips) as well as water with us.... and we are not too proud to pee within sight of those 10,000 other folks....
But at least now it has stopped raining!! You have to laugh or you would cry.....

Tessa

Wow Tessa.....that does sound horrendous! :scared1: How awful you and your two little ones and your mom had to go through that. That's even far worse than Washington, D.C. traffic!!! Like you said, good thing you had cookies, etc. in car. I always do that too. I keep a few snacks in the car or in my tote bag a few bottles of water, a Neat Sheet (waterproof blanket), a small little potty (port a pot) just in case of an emergency, a few plastic bags, wipes, etc. Best be prepared I always say!

Hi Ladies,
GORGOUS weather here in Chicago today! Wow, was it nice. Didn't really do anything spectacular but tomorrow we are going to the zoo! My house is a disaster zone still. I NEVER feel like I ever get anything accomplished! OH ,well!:confused3

I LOVE….galumpkies & kolaches!!! I have Czech in me and my Grandma made them for us. How about Hoska bread????

Lovin Life ( Pam2) Congrats on your pic of the day post. I will have to go check it out! Love your DD pic posted here. I love pix!

DisneyOhana (Lisa) Did you get my PM? Wednesday is still on I hope. Just in case you are curious this is where Lisa & I are going to meet….

tttessa (tessa) I am so sorry for your stress!!!! I am glad you are safe and sound now. Thank goodness! I hope you have a great visit with your Mom too.
I have been thinking about you because (like Pam said)..the Beckhams are on and also I just saw Kathy Griffin in London and she was talking about all these words she couldn’t say and we had no idea what any of them meant. Apparantly they were VERY dirty!
.......and also Paul McCarty's divorce is all over our news.

Shout out to..........

There are others like me!!! Unbelievable! I am so OCD about planning things!!!! I can't even stand it myself. :surfweb:
We are going in December for christmas and New years and I have been on these boards religiously trying to figure out the trip.
I worry about my DH's crowd anxiety.... :crowded: we are going at christmas...hello????
i worry about my DD7 recently diagnosed Sensory Processing disorder....I'm starting to see a pattern here.:Pinkbounc
My DM is going with us and has diabetes and I am worried about her getting tired and the parks being too full so that if we leave in the middle of the day we wont get back in for dinner ressies.
I worry about the money to finish paying for the trip
I'm worrying about packing already!!!! OMG!!!! I am nuts!!!

Hello - welcome -:welcome: - boy are you in the right pace.... Lots of worriers, and control freaks (GOOD ORGANISERS!!!!!) here.....

I'm starting to get less worried about being worried about things now I know there are lots of us - maybe we are the normal ones??

Pam - love the link..... I just love the different words and sayings that even English speakers don't have in common!! My DH always laughs and tries to mimic the accent when we hear "moyda in the foyst degree" on detective series - I guess if it's from New Jersey, that should be "Noo Joyzee".
Mind you, we always laugh at the "upper class" English accent too "Oh, I say old chaps, dash it, the polo ponies will be dreadfully put-out by this awful weather, one does hope it will jolly well clear orf soon what what" etc....

All is calm here now after our adventures, at least mum has had a memorable start to her holiday, she won't forget this one!!!

Wish our weather was gorgeous here too Debbie, just cold (13 degrees c in the "height of summer" ), drab and grey..... - but, currently at least, it's dry .

Cheers all,
Tessa

I started typing this early this AM -

Do your Pierogies have sour kraut in them? We found a Polish store in our area that carries the Pierogies w/sauerkraut that we like, but of course they are not as good as homemade. They also have Klushki noodles that we love. Oh, you are making me so hungry! I know and love all of those things, but am not sure about Haluski (or Hoska bread - Debbie)? I do not cook or bake much because working full time, and the kids’ activities and everything else, I don't make the time to do it. I love to (especially bake), though, and need to learn how to make these things so they don't become a dying art in my family. They are things that I associate with home and comfort, and only eat them at my mom's when my grandma is visiting.

Wow did we have a BAD day yesterday!!! Well, you know we were picking up my mum from the airport..... it was a day the floods took over our life!!!!

You have to laugh or you would cry.....

Tessa

Tessa - I am so sorry that you had such a horrible experience. That is awful! It sounds like you all handled it well. I just cannot even imagine. I hope that your weather gets better and your mom enjoys the rest of her trip. That is something that all of you will be telling stories of for the rest of your lives! Thank God that no one in your family was hurt.

I always do that too. I keep a few snacks in the car or in my tote bag a few bottles of water, a Neat Sheet (waterproof blanket), a small little potty (port a pot) just in case of an emergency, a few plastic bags, wipes, etc. Best be prepared I always say!

Pam - that is such a smart thing to do. I need to be better prepared and organized and do that. Great idea.

Hi Ladies,
GORGOUS weather here in Chicago today! Wow, was it nice. Didn't really do anything spectacular but tomorrow we are going to the zoo! My house is a disaster zone still. I NEVER feel like I ever get anything accomplished! OH ,well!:confused3

Debbie - Have fun at the zoo! What a great zoo to go to. I hope that you take a couple of pics that you can share here with us! I love yours on the POTD. You seem to always catch the cutest expressions on your kids’ faces.

Lovin Life ( Pam2) Congrats on your pic of the day post. I will have to go check it out! Love your DD pic posted here. I love pix!

Thanks! I think that I am over my fear of posting pics. We have a lot from our 2003 and 2005 pics, but our 2001 trip was on 35mm. I will not take the time to scan them and post those.

There are others like me!!! Unbelievable! I am so OCD about planning things!!!! I can't even stand it myself. :surfweb:

Welcome!! You are in the right place for serious planners!!

We are going in December for christmas and New years and I have been on these boards religiously trying to figure out the trip.

OMG!!!! I am nuts!!!

How fun to be going for Christmas and New Year’s! Lucky you!! Try not to worry so much and enjoy the planning. Things will work out fine. Your DH will probably be having so much fun that the crowds may not bother him as much as you think they will. I don’t know anything about Sensory Processing Disorder. My guess is that if you thought it was going to be too much of a problem, you wouldn’t be planning a WDW trip. Maybe your DM can take a bus back to the resort by herself and meet you back at the restaurant? Is she independent enough to do that? There are also plenty of places in WDW to rest. You may be able to leave her “parked” somewhere to rest while you all enjoy the rides and run around. My mom, who is going with us in Nov, has trouble with her feet and that is what we plan to do. She knows that if she can’t take it any more, she can go back to the resort by herself and meet up w/us later, or rest in the park and we’ll meet up w/her periodically. You can sort thru those things and overcome! Be positive and good luck!!

My DD9 had a friend spend the night and we are dropping her at home on our way to church. We then will come home and grab lunch, and DD14 will pack a few things to stay at IL’s for a few days. We are dropping her off there after lunch, and taking blackberry cobbler for my FIL’s birthday. Oink, oink. I think that with donuts and cobbler today, I need to just skip lunch! MIL will bring DD14 home Wednesday afternoon, and Wednesday night she’ll have to pack for Branson, MO. We leave early Thursday AM for our 7 + hour drive. I’m looking forward to the trip. I’ll start packing our stuff tonight. We have absolutely nothing planned yet but our hotel, so we are just going to wing it. I am hoping it will be a relaxing trip. I love road trips, and DH doesn’t at all. We’ll bring DVD’s, handheld games, books and snacks to occupy the kids for the drive. The most driving we usually do is 5 hrs. each way to visit friends in Houston, but a couple of years ago, the girls and I took a road trip to Chicago w/my parents, aunt and sister – 7 of us in a mini van w/our luggage. It was loads of fun. REALLY. I loved every minute of it, but DH would have gone bonkers.

Hi's to Yvette, Jenn, Maureen, Tammie, Lisa, Keahi and Sewer!

:grouphug: Pam2

Just to quick post to say hi to everyone. We a nice weekend, but Debbie, I feel like you do. I can't get anything done around my house. My kids undo anything that I do accomplish so I get frustrated and demoralized.

Hope all had a fun weekend.

Talk to you all soon.

Maureen

Hi Everyone! Once again I am flying by at almost midnight!

Welcome TidoubleGerr! It is so much fun to plan and obsess for WDW - especially your first time!

We had a great weekend - my DS and his wife and little Mason came for the weekend, they are still here. My cousin's daughter got married yesterday, and today we had a family reunion picnic at my aunt and uncle's house! There were 40 of us from 4 generations! It was a beautiful hot day! My DS is a mortgage officer now, so he is going to make contacts in town here tomorrow before they head back!

My other DIL is still pregnant! She has been in labor on and off for almost 3 weeks. She is so miserable. I will be really glad when she has that little baby girl! :cloud9: I finished her bedding and curtains this weekend. I'll have to take pics so you can see what I've been up to!

Okay, hope you all have a great Monday! Gotta get some sleep.:grouphug:
