I hope it's OK that I am posting here.

I am a control freak and we are going to Disneyworld next April-me, dh, 4 kids under 12 and all the way from Australia! It seemed like a good idea at the time, now I am spending all my spare time on Disney boards and getting completely overwhelmed! LOL

Yvette

Yvette - :cheer2::welcome::cheer2: - I'm no longer out on my own, you come from further away than me!!!! (UK) Mind you -there is someone from Hawaii on board (lucky ,lucky person), they are probably further than me too.

I'm going next April too - what dates? We will be there 6th to 17th.

You are definitely not alone in the control freak thing!!!!!!!! I am plan/plan/planning mad at the minute.... April seems to be whizzing closer - It's July ALREADY!!!

Anyhow hello and welcome...
Tessa

Hi Tessa,

We will actually be there from the 7th-18th April :)

Where in the UK are you? How long does it take for you to fly there?

:welcome: Wow, you will be traveling a long way! The DISboards can be addicting! :disrocks: I have a wireless laptop, and find myself hopping on any chance that I get. I read a lot of threads, but so far, this is really the only one that I post on.

Is this your kids' 1st trip to Disneyland? Will you visit anyplace else while you are in the US?

April will be here before you know it. For us, once school starts at the end of August, time flies!! September-December is usually a whirlwind for us, and I imagine most families w/small children!

We want to hear all of the details you are willing to share!:listen:

:)

Hi everyone! I am really behind on posts, but I wanted to stop in and say hi while I had the chance. My two little ones are sleeping, so I have a few quite moments with my oldest DD.

My little one Grace needs to have tubes put in her ears on Thursday. I know it is only a minor procedure, but she is going to be sedated so I am a little worried.
She has had at least 5 ear infections in a year. I think she has had more, because I never really know when she has one. She is so calm and rarely cranky. We took her in for her 1 yr check up and she had a double ear infection.

I am getting excited about my trip in October. I just checked airfare and SW is having a sale..less than $600 for all of us.  You can't beat that price! I convinced my DH to book POFQ instead of POP, but I am really crossing my fingers for a great deal at WL. I have seen some getting $140 per night in August, so I am just waiting for them to release the next set of codes.

Welcome back, Pam! Can't wait to hear more about your trip.

Pam2..I have admit, I don't get to the park in time to do EMH. We usually get there about 1/2 hour after opening and head right to
Fantasyland. We can usually get everything done in 1 or 2 hours before it starts to get crowded. Some days we can make it all day in the parks (if the kids nap in their strollers.) Usually we head back to the resort for a mid-day nap. My kids could probably make it all day, but I've learned that the meltdown at the end of the day is not worth pushing them too much.

Tammie Happy belated birthday!

Welcome, Jenn and Yvette:welcome: The more the merrier!

Hi Lisa, Debbie, Tessa, Ahi, and Sewer!

Maureen, sorry to hear your little Grace has to have tubes put in her ears. I'm sure she'll be fine. I understand your worry though. Disney is having a sale mid or late Aug through Sept. you can stay at some DVC resorts in a 1 bedroom for like $145/night. (Or maybe it's a studio?) but both are reduced prices. The villa rooms are very spacious.

OK...I'm going to start a report. I am not the best writer (well, I am out of practice).

On Saturday, June 23rd, we were all geared up to go and about 2-3 hours before we were to leave for the airport, my youngest DD's cheeks were red. I did my best to quarantine the kids the week before, but guess it wasn't good enough. She had a fever. What to do? She wasn't throwing up, nothing coming out the other end either. Should I stay or go? You know, I don't like when other parents don't tell me that there child is sick and then invite us over to play. I don't do that, I reschedule. In preschool, it's hard to judge when to send and not to send too. I posted a thread on the DIS and should have known better. I got a few supportive replies and a few rude comments. One lady said.."Stay at home and go the next day. I don't want my 5 day $2,000 vacation to be a wash." I understand that. But at the same time I replied "I don't want my 10 day $6,000 vacation to be a wash either."

So, regardless of whether you agress with me or not....we gave her some Mortrin and left. Southwest was a great plane ride. And if my DD didn't get anyone sick..the 3 yo boy with the runny nose who wouldn't sit still and was coughing everywhere w/o covering his mouth would have.

Southwest had great service all around. Got to preboard and sat near the front. We landed in Tampa (I gasped at the humidity in the airport. Do they not use A/C there?) at around 8:45pm. We stayed right at the airport in the Marriott since we were getting in late. Great and very courteous staff there. Everything was wonderful. The bedding was very fluffy and nice, but the bed wasn't very comfy. I like firm beds. Just my preference. My DD was doing a little better and she ate a little something. She complained of her tooth hurting. I think she's getting a 4 yr molar..is there such a thing? Anyway, she was fine the next day. We took the bus to Alamo and waited in line for an hour for our rental. I shouldn't have used a coupon. And were on our merry way to Orlando. DD was now fine. It didn't take very long to get to Orlando at all. Maybe 1 hour. My DH is a commuter and tends to have a lead foot as do many Northern Virginians (self included)..plus we tend to be left lane huggers. But we are polite.

We check into Wilderness Lodge (Villas) and head for the room. Room 1505...AWESOME location. First floor, closest to the main lodge, closest to the Villas pool, closest to the buses, and closest to the main pool from the villas as you can get. Girls immediately stripped to put their suits on and I stayed behind to unpack.

We headed over to Ohanas for dinner. We've never been there for dinner before and it was McKenna's birthday. I had ordered a cake as well. They started the coconut races and McKenna was shy about going up. DH (who is really shy himself-I'm slowly breaking him of this) finally took her up there and there were no more coconuts to push around. She starts bawling which then I started to well up because after her being sick and being her birthday, I felt bad for her. Some nice gentleman came up and gave her his. It ws very sweet of him.

The dinner was ok..not all that great. I probablt won't eat there again though. We had a pretty "green" waiter..so he didn't make any kind of hoopla for McKenna's birthday...didn't announce it or anything. I wasn't very happy, but oh well. He did bring the cake out. (I post photo later). It was cute, but awful. Now..I have never met a cake I didn't like...ever. Have you seen my picture? This cake was yucky. It was vanilla cake w/ butterceam and strawberry filling. My buttercream icing is better. This could not have been buttercream icing or even whipped cream. We didn't even finish our slices. We gave it to the waiter for the break room and they were happy to have it.

We rested the rest of the evening.

The next day we swam, rode the monrail, rode the boat during the day. Around 4 the kids went to the Cub's Den and we went to Narcossee's. Narcossee's was delicious. They even had my favorite wine..Moscato D'asti. We both had the full lobster which was great. Went back to pick the kids up..and they had made a friend or two. Meghan even liked it. Being 11 she kind of didn't want to go there but had a good time anyway. They knew it was McKenna's birthday and gave her a birthday cupcake, some coloring books, markers, a pin, and a Pooh Memory Game to keep. It was so thoughtful!

Next day we got up early and headed to MK. I hate getting up, but I love EMH in the morning. We got on Buzz, Tommorrowland speedway, Dumbo, Stitch, Pooh, Carousel, and Space Mountain with no or very, very little wait. SM we had to get a FP though. We also did the teacups. When Toon town opened they took McKenna on the Barnstormer. She loved it. We then ate at Casey's Hot Dog place...only because it was on the way out. It wasn't bad..I just don't want hot dogs on my vacations. Maybe one is ok. We headed back to the room for a break. A first for us. We normally just stay in the park from open until the fireworks are over, but since we were at VWL it was an easy way back.

I enjoyed taking a break and so did the kids. I even got a little nap out of McKenna. We went back around 4pm and they played on Tom Sawyer's Island and rode BTMRR with the FP's they had. We then ate dinner at LTT another first for us. It wasn't bad. Not a new favorite though. I really liked the ham. Not to toot my own horn (really), but I am a pretty good cook and I make some really great dishes (when I feel like it) so if it isn't as good as I can make it or better it's just OK to me.

We rode a few more rides and then got positioned for the Electrical Parade. At first we had a great spot, but as the time drew closer more and more people started crowding in. When it started there was this HUGE and tall man who had been in one of those scooter thingys who had stood up to hold his grand child, but he kept pushing on me, his sweat would drip on me (gag), he stank, and his scooter kept jabbing my leg. I think he was trying to support himself on me..so a few times I moved a bit. Now I felt bad for him, but I wish he would have leaned elsewhere. That's the closest I've been to any man since I met husband..eww. Now if he were hot...that would have been another story. :rotfl2: He could grind up on me as much as he wanted. :rotfl2: Through the parade, I started getting muscle aches a nd dizzy. I felt like I was going to pass out. Once the parade was over I had to get out of there so I found a spot by the train station and we sat. It was a great place to view the fireworks! Once they were over, we immediately headed to the buses and got on the first bus out to WL. It wasn't even crowded. There were like 8 of us on the bus! Once we got to the room both Meghan and I felt hot. I brought the thermometer. Meghan had a fever of 102.5 and mine was 104.5. We both took something to bring it down, but I had never been so hot in my life. My throat was very sore. Hers wasn't. We rested the next day. The following day Meghan felt better as did I, but my throat still hurt. Usually it goes away pretty quickly. Iended up going to the Centra Care Clinic and getting antibiotics.

Will type more later. Need to prepare lunch.

Maureen - I am sorry that Grace needs to have ear tubes, but she will feel so much better, once she has them and the ear infections stop. I can totally understand how you feel about the anesthesia. DD9, Taylor, had ear infections starting when she was a little over a month old, and we spent her first New Year's Eve in the emergency room. It was one after another after that, and she finally got tubes, then got them again a second time. I cannot remember her age (I know that's awful), but she was little, and I was so worried when everyone told me what a piece of cake it is for them. They are just babies, and it is surgery. You know she'll be fine, but you still worry. Bless her heart. Hang in there, and please keep us posted.

I think that some people on the threads can be quite rude! It doesn't feel very good to give your opinion and get blasted for it! :scared: What a waste of energy IMO, but don't blast me please anyone! It's not like we all haven't done this before, taken our kids out in public when they are sick. A lot of times we don't even know they are sick and they have already spread the germs. We are supposed to keep them out of day care and school until they are 24 hrs fever free. Like that happens a lot!

I was feeling kind of sassy, and was going to post a reply on the thread about breastfeeding toddlers, that I sometimes breastfeed my 13 year old. I really don't, but wouldn't that stir up people on both sides of the fence!? :stir: I decided it probably wasn't worth it.

That's too bad about your Ohanas experience. That is disappointing, especially when it is such a special day. Although you felt bad about the experience, I think most of the times our kids don't see the flaws, they just have the time of their lives and enjoy all of the good things. :yay: As parents, we just want it to be perfect for them though!

I've never heard of the Cub's Den. Is that just something that is available for people that stay at FW? That is neat!

OK - I should get out my list of abbreviations, but I am being lazy... What is SM? So far, it sounds like you all had a great mix of fun and relaxation. It stinks that you three girls had periods of time when you did not feel good. At least you got the meds to feel better though! Hopefully, DH didn't get sick on this trip. I'll wait to hear the rest of the story.

I laughed so hard when I read your story about the man getting in your way at the parade! :lmao: I can get pretty vocal :hyper2: about that, especially when we've invested a lot of our time staking our place for the parade! Now, if it were a Brad Pitt or George Clooney type, I might have to re-think that!

I need to find your place to view Wishes, and get some of your luck with the buses!! We tend to be so tired at park closing, we don't linger in the shops and wait for the bus crowds to thin out (isn't that how it's supposed to work?), but wait in the long lines and stand on the bus on the way back to the resort.

No pressure, but keep it coming!!popcorn::

This is the first trip to Disneyworld-my eldest went to Disney Paris with us when he was just under three. We are also going to Portland Oregon and Chicago so lots of travelling for us! I am so excited and so pleased I found this board-it is really helping me sort it all out.

Yvette

:surfweb: The rest of the troops are still not up. I am the only morning person in the bunch!

Yvette - that sounds like a wonderful trip you have planned for your family! I guess when you travel all that way, you should try to stay as long as possible and see as much as you can. Have fun planning and reading DISboards. :disrocks: It's become one of my major hobbies as of late, especailly w/all of the rain we've been having. Glad to have ya here!! I'm still pretty much a newbie myself.

Jenn - how's your planning going?

Not much to say. I just wanted to give everyone a shout out!:flower3:

I am getting seriously addicted to these forums. It is after 11pm here-ah who needs sleep when there is Disney research to do? LOL

Yvette - That is great that you are traveling all over. You'll love Disneyworld. I live in a suburb of Chicago. If you have any questions, ask away. Do you know anyone in Chicago?

Pam - Great trip report, except for being sick. My DH gets strep throat a lot and the last time he actually let someone drive him to the doctor because his fever was so... high. I had a fever of 101 at the time and I thought I felt bad. I guess I am a big baby.
Doesn't everyone have a funny story about some gross guy too close to them at a Disney parade. I bet no one has a story about a good smelling, good looking guy leaning on them too much. Or am I wrong?
I loved 'Ohana for breakfast. My DD had the time of her life. I wish I could get my pics up. I have tons of great pics there and at the castle. We took 503 pictures on our trip. Is that crazy? I can't wait to hear more about your trip.

Maureen - I am so sorry about Grace. I was nervous when my nephew was getting put under so I can only imagine how you feel. It is nice to hear from you.

Pam2 - I am not usually a morning person because my DD seems to be a night owl so I like to sleep in. My nephews slept over last night so like most sleepovers they went to sleep late and woke up early. If I go to sleep early I have no problem getting up in the morning. I love it outside then. It is the best time of the day.

Hi Debbie, Keahi, Tammie, Sewer, Jenn, Tessa, and anyone else who may be lurking.

Yvette - That is great that you are traveling all over. You'll love Disneyworld. I live in a suburb of Chicago. If you have any questions, ask away. Do you know anyone in Chicago?

I have been to Chicago once before 2 years ago to meet some internet friends from a parenting board I was on. My daughter was 9mo and came with me but my dh and sons stayed home so I am looking forward to sharing Chicago with them-I loved it!

I would pay good money to have a good looking guy lean on me :rotfl:

Continued.....

By Wed. and Thursday we all felt better and just swam, went to the outlets and we ate at Boma for dinner. They have the best Mango smoothies! They didn't have the peanut rice that night (second time I missed it), but everything was very good as usual.

We went to see Shrek the Third. That was our first time at the movies at DTD. They are HUGE!!! We really liked the seating in there too. Shrek the Third was funny and I am glad we went, but I have to say that Shrek 2 was way better (so was the first one). I am looking forward to The Bourne Ultimatium coming out. But Shrek was a good kid's movie and there doesn't seem to be many this year.

Oh...I took the girls to the My Disney Princess Tea Party at the GF. It was very cute and I actually got McKenna in a Princess Dress. I couldn't believe it. I am so glad she complied because there were only 2 other girls w/o a dress on. They sang songs and ate tea sandwiches, paraded around the room, etc. It was very cute.

For lunch DH went to Cooke's of Dublin and brought back fish and chips, chicken and chips for the girls and fried Snicker bars for all of us. Wow! I am not a big fish eater. I love shellfish, and I do like fish depending on how it's prepared (the more on it the better), but the batter was really good as was the tartar sauce. The "chips" were good a little different than our french fries, but great as well. The fried Snicker bar was heaven, but one could be shared by two. I have a major sweet tooth, but it is very, very rich.

Sunday we hung around, shopped at DTD, shipped some stuff home through Disney, visited the Beach Club and Boardwalk and I had a gift card to Maggiano's Little Italy so we went there for dinner. This was our first time there. It's located on International Drive by the Convention Center and right next to Wonder Works. Next time go down I want to check that place out. It looks so awesome. The building is upside down!

Maggiano's was really nice inside. My kind of place. I was surprised when we called about the dress code and they said casual. It looked like The Oak Room at The Plaza Hotel in NYC with all the dark hardwood. In fact, I felt like I was in NYC and Frank Sinatra was in the house. The meal was really good except the portions were VERY big. Even by Disney standards they were big. I'd go again, but skip the appetizer and maybe split something or take it home.

Monday we got up early for EMH at Typhoon Lagoon. That was nice....there wasn't that many people there. The water was warm. Both girls loved the wave pool. McKenna didn't care for Ketchakiddie creek because she doesn't like water splashed in her face. Meghan and I did the family raft falls which were so much fun. DH and Meghan did the storm slides and a few others, but after that we all stuck to the wave pool. We left around 1:00pm and ate lunch at the room.

Tuesday we just did laundry swam, packed and watched fireworks at Epcot from the bridge between BCV and BWV.

Wednesday we left around 11:00am went to the Mall at Millenia and browsed around for 2 hours, had lunch at Johnny Rockets and left for Tampa. We got to the airport in Tampa 3.5 hrs early. Thankfully they have a play area. Our flight got bumped back 40 mins because of storms in th Washington, D.C. area. The flight was very smooth and the flight attendants were so laid back and funny as was one of the pilots. We had 2 stewards and 1 stewardess. They sang a song or two and just all around funny. The plane was decorated for the 4th of July. And they pointed out all the fireworks displays in the D.C. area...so we still got to see the fireworks. The plane half empty.

The Dulles airport had a ton of security there. When picking up or dropping off your party had to be right there..no waiting. They had cops on foot, in cars, and on those segways partrolling up and down. Now when I say what I am going to say..I don't mean anything harmful or predjudice. It's just what happened. I am friends with people of all races, but it's what I hear in the news and it just makes you wonder/worry. The girls and I had stood at the curb for 20+ minutes with all of our luggage waiting for Jim when a young Arab man pulled up by himself right in front of us. He gave us a nasty look and picked up a cigarette. As he was going to light it..in that 1 or 2 seconds I was horrified. Mostly because he gave us a dirty look. We didn't do anything. I was so scared the car was going to blow up. He lit his cigarette. Phew. Then the cop on the segway told him to move it. He also told everyone else to get a move on too. With the other two airport scares in the UK and Scotland and it being the 4th (and things happen in 3's) I was nervous something was going to happen. So glad it didn't.

We rolled in around 1:00am and already planned a short weekend in Nags Head, NC and will book next year's trip at the end of the month. Next year it will be Beach Club Villas and maybe a few days at Hilton Head. Thanks for reading!

Hi Everyone!

I've been in hiding the last few days...I have decided to get another part time job on top of my full time job! (I need to find money to pay for my current disney addiction!!! :lmao: )

I can't bear to think of the hours I am going to be putting in the next couple of months, but the dream of walking around WDW with not a penny on a credit card is a nice thought!

I am still planning out my ADR's...just making a list, and comparing, well, I'm sure all of you know how that goes!!! :rotfl2:

Just wanted to say Helllllooooooooo to everyone! :grouphug:

Hiya all,

loving the start to the trippie - know how you feel on the sweat monster invading personal space!!! We had same sort of experience in 99 when we visited -I guess a lot of holiday makers take a break from "personal hygiene" too.

Maureen(?) Sorry to hear about your little girl needing her ears done - mine had to be sedated (just with laughing gas (nitrous oxide??)) for some lumps to be taken from her arm (thankfully nothing sinister!! - but gave us a few lost heartbeats..). If she has the gas expect her to feel sick after - they give something to stop the nausea, but take in some iced water -it really helps.

Yvette - we'll be there the same time - wow - never been there the same time as someone I "know" before!!! Have to wear some Lime Green stuff and see if we can see each other (or alternatively arrange an encounter - I suppose!!) I just can't wait to get there!!!!

Pam2 - after last show/parade whatever (well at Disney Paris anyhow) , we just find a bench and sit for 30 min whilst everyone goes past - then we get to the gate after they've a gone, turn around and take a last photo -it's usually a good one - all the lights, not many people and the CMs usually have a wave and a smile for the kids on the way out (my little girl made one CMs day -she said goodbye and the CM said "got to lock up and keep the magic in" so my eldest little girl said "can I have your autograph, 'cos you've got a REALLY important job". You could see a tear in the CMs eye..... (and mine too..)

The Sun is SHINING BRIGHT - has the summer arrived??? we have infant school sports day today - not very competitive - over and under races, bouncy hopper races that sort of stuff - should be fun... especially in the SUN.

Tessa

Hi Everyone!
Did you miss me?????? I have just been trying to catch up. You guys have been chatty Cathy's!

TinkLvr (Maureen) Sorry poor Gracie needs tubes.:guilty: My DS needed to go under for a procedure when he was under a year. It was so sad and scary! Good luck with it all. It will be so nice to have her home safe and healthy afterwards with hopefully NO more ear infections!
Pbharris (Pam ) LOVE:love: hearing about your trip! I was thinking about you all the time!!!!! I am sorry a couple of you got sick. That's one of our worst fears here isn't it???? Glad you survived and it didn't ruin your trip. You should have told us before you left! We would have supported you! Unfortunately there are Disers out there just looking for trouble. Whatever! Get a life, right! My Mom doesn't care for the food at Ohana either. She's not into spice though. Plus, a couple times we got dry meat but one time we were there for the fireworks so that made up for dry meat!:rotfl2: LTT is OK. We have been there during MNSSP and the characters are in costume which was adorable. DH loves:love: turkey and stuffing, etc so he liked the food. Not one of my favorites either. Your fancy, chmancy dinner sounded great! Lobster...yum yum!! We stay at GF alot so I always wondered about the tea party. Did you feel it was worth the $$$$? It looks so cute!
DisneyOhana (Lisa) I am in town for a couple weeks so we should plan something. Do you have a water park or anything like that by you that you would want to go to? I know you aren't crazy about driving to unfamiliar terratory.
Magicfor2 (Tammie) Your weekend getaway sounds nice and relaxing. Good for you. Is it weird not working????
Ahibird (keahi) Hi!
Sewer Where are you hiding?
tttessa (tessa)Hope your sunshine stuck around! Have fun with the kids out.
Lovin Life ( Pam2)Hi Pam2! We FAR from camp in Wisconsin!!!! It is a summer home so we are very lucky! I am not a camper. I am more of a hoteler!!!!

Debbie, I too have that fear that if something happens to me, DH will not know what to do with everything! I take care of everything financial in our life. How did that happen?? Is it the control freak in us?:rotfl2:

Does anyone else buy the Disney Dollars? I buy some almost every time we’re at the mall, so that we have our spending money for our trip. The kids will get them for different occasions from the grandparents, so they have their own spending money for the trip. Do they have these in the UK, Tessa?
The money thing is DEFINITELY a control issue with me (along with a few other things:rolleyes1 ). DH is doing great.
Thanks for thinking of us. He started new meds on Thursday and feels fine. He will get an EKG and stress test on this Thursday to make sure the meds are OK.

LOL

Yvette

Maybe I can even meet ya! Seriously, PM me anytime with any questions!

Hi all! :wave2: I am working my way thru the Disney Picture of the Day thread. I am trying to view all of the pictures, and am skimming thru some of the communication on it. I am almost 1/2 way thru. I am inspired and determined to take good pics! I took my first digital photg class last night, and take one Sat. I hope that everyone is having a great week! I'll be back later!
