The weather was pretty gloomy for our first day at DL -- cloudy, off and on drizzle, and it was chilly – high 50’s (well, being from Hawaii I thought it was chilly)
. But, hey, we were at Happiest Place on Earth, so no one was complaining.
We had flown into San Diego the night before, and drove up that morning. Since we were arriving mid-day, I thought it might be nice if we did a tour to start the trip off right. I had researched on the DL boards
, and found a lot of people recommended the “Walk in Walt’s Footsteps” Tour, so I had arranged for us to do that for our first afternoon in the park.
Let me say, it was awesome
– we learned a ton about Walt and the park, and my family has a totally new appreciation of Disneyland. Our tour guide was Kristen, and she was great. We started at City Hall, walked around and up Main Street, through and around the Castle, had a peek at the lobby of Club 33 (someday – big sigh), around the Disney Gallery (beautiful stuff), a little Enchanted Tiki Room action (yay), and then a late lunch (or early dinner). Usually the tour eats in a little courtyard at the Disney Gallery, but it was wet with all the rain, so they re-located us to the covered dining area in Rancho del Zocalo. I had Lillian’s (Walt's wife) special recipe Chili Soufflé - yummy – it seems Walt loved his chili, too
This was a great tour if you’re a fan of the man himself – like me. We each got an exclusive tour pin, too. (DS loved that).
It seems that the rain kept the crowd away, too. We walked on so many rides with no or little waits – I think the longest wait was 15 minutes for Autopia – in the standby line. DS’ favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean
– we must have gone on it 5 times that evening – no waiting. We also had our own private boat on Small World - no one else but us on the whole boat (and an empty one behind, too)...
Ahh if only it was like that for the rest of our visit….
