You're right - Goofy's is just one of those things... like it or not!!!! :rotfl:

DH says I should sell it on ebay but I've never sold there before. I may give it a go because this stuff is definitely going OUT of the house!

"Bucky thinks that's his girlfriend." :scared1: ?

First, yep. Me on the ebay too. Bought lots, not sold anything. Thinking about that too. My friend that is coming in does it, so I may get her to show me how it works.

As for the dog... :scared1: ! I haven't had that come up, but I can tell you all the kids are older in our neighborhood and I'm around them a lot. You would be shocked at some of the things I see go on around here - esp. if they have older sisters/brothers. For example, a 3 year old bumping and grinding to that Pussycat Girls song last year that she got from watching the video.

TV is so out there with this stuff these days. I don't envy you at all with this Kara. Wow. I would say that you def. want her to hear it from you first, but she is a young 7 too. MAN! Maybe one of the others with older kids knows more, but maybe an honest conversation where you ask her how she knew it was his girlfriend? I don't know :scared1: YIKES. Sorry. THat is a tough one. I hope it works out for you. I will say this, I'm so amazed at the kids we keep hearing about who are doing things at 8-10 yrs old. I just think they should still be playing with barbies and GI Joes at that point.

Hiya all

Kara - we are at the do we/don't we talk stage too - my eldest is also 7 - she came out from school last week and told us that a boy in her class says that sex is where grownups get nudey and smooch a lot.... I figure that AT LEAST she said grownups!! Trouble is she said it very loudly whilst I was paying for the groceries!! And ,wouldn't you know, it was the ONLY young male till operator in the whole shop!!!! Boy did he go red..... and he wasn't the only one.....

I don't want to do the talk yet, but it's getting closer that's for sure... Our school has a mother's and daughter's evening to discuss "womanhood" in a year and a half - kids aged 9ish - and I was hoping to "talk" after that.....

Tessa

I agree with you all on this subject i haven't really had "THE" chat with my daughter and she's 9 :scared1: she knows the odd thing here and there as poor her started developing very very early ... It seems to me the best way to do it at her age would be very biologically rather than emotionally so they see it as Grownups, babies etc as opposed to anything more if you know what i mean .. is far better she hear it from you or your DH than older kids around school etc
Good luck with whatever happens

On a sorta similar note, have any of you with boys noticed at around the age of 4 that "mean" streak coming out? DS is all about EVERYTHING fighting and one being a good guy and one being a bad guy. I feel sort of mean, because I have banned Power Rangers and the like from our house because after he watches it He is running around hitting everyone and pitching things.

I am putting this stuff off until he is older. For the last 6 months, he has been all about Ninja Turtles :confused3 after my DB told him about them. I don't let him watch those videos. I am SO HAPPY that he has gotten into Tigger and Pooh here lately, and I am so trying to cultivate that. DH says to not turn him into "Ralphy" from the Simpsons. I just think there is time later on for this stuff.

He watched American Dragon yesterday with my mom. He has been a MESS since then. Throwing things at his sister when I'm not looking, trying to hit things. I just don't get it. That said, he does go to a preschool program twice a week and I know a couple of the boys are into Spider Man and stuff like that, so he could be picking up some of this stuff on the playground. SIGH. I just don't know how to curve this stuff.

That's EXACTLY what my pediatrician told me before I had THE TALK w/ my DD - and I didn't have that talk until just last summer and she was 11. Kept it very anatomical - this body part does this and so on.

I would definitely find out where your daughter got the reference, though, Kara. Maybe it was from tv - or a kid at school. Would definitely want clear up the confusion.

So we had a scary moment today. Go to pick youngest DD up at school to take her to get braces. I'm waiting w/ all the other parents at the back exit of the school; dismissal time comes and goes - no kids. 10 minutes go by; still no kids. Next we see helicopters flying over head and a police car comes in to tell us the school is in lockdown!:scared1: A house in town was broken into and then a car was stolen and the police were on a all-out manhunt looking for the guy - though he tells us not to worry, they didn't believe he was dangerous. Then why scare the crap out of us and lockdown the school? Anyway, they would only release the kids if you came into the office and showed ID. Have no idea if they caught the guy yet but we made it to the dentist.

Oh how awful for you, that must have been a scary and strange 10 mins for all of you .. glad all was ok at the school though

Everything seems to be fine but, from what I hear, the schools are still in lockdown. You can personally pick up your kids if you want, but anyone that's supposed to ride the bus is still at school. My daughter's friend left her a message on her cell phone saying they wouldn't release them for at least an hour after dismissal.

Fortunately when we got home, there was a voicemail and an email from the superintendent explaining what was going on.

A few others have been MIA. Where are the rest of our peeps?

I told you I scared everyone off when I came on board!:rotfl2:

First let me say that I talked with Ally tonight at dinner (DH works late tonight so she and I went (c'mon y'all, guess!) to the mall. First she told me that she heard it on Kim Possible - not a chance. I watch that with her and they barely reference boys on there. So then she told me that it's one girl in her class who talks about this kind of stuff. So I'm sending a nice note to the teacher to please keep her ears open.

How scary! Lockdown? On the positive side, sounds like your school was really on the ball - and the VM from the super right away? Great! I guess better safe than sorry, huh?

Renee - I don't have boys, but I do have a daughter who likes Bratz and I've all but banned them in the house. DSIL got her two for Christmas and I let her strip them down and play with them in the tub! And the clothes she got to go with them? I took them back to Target. So I don't think you're crazy for "banning" the violent kids shows in your home. Guess I need to ban all the "sex" shows in our house!

Watching Idol now - so who's a fan??? And did I read there that there is a Lost thread somewhere?

Great new idea - DH wants to set up the upstairs bedroom as a Disney room, right? So I am doing an 8x10 invitation from all the restaurants we have dined at in the World and making a "border" all around the ceiling. I got cheap black frames at Joann's tonight. About 15 restaurants, and I'll leave a wall blank for those we hit in the future. I think it will be cute. DH never goes in that room (in fact he rarely goes upstairs!) so I may paint and decorate gradually and surprise him in a week or two.

AND, I listed my first item on ebay!!!! Actually, I have 10 things for sale now - I'm selling all those Fisher Price Little People buildings that Ally never plays with. Even if I get $5 for each one - it's $5 more than I have now, AND it clears out a ton of space! Debbie, if this works for me, you may need to try it!

Ladies, have a wonderful night - until tomorrow!

Kara - Oh, I so don't like the Bratz. I've never bought them for kids, even when Mom's have suggested them as gift ideas. I totally get that. DD is too young, but when she is old enough.... no ma'am! :snooty:

Good going on the note. That is a good idea! Maybe the Teacher can help keep that chatter down.

Also, Kara you go girl! :woohoo: I may be right behind you with the ebay stuff. The more I clean, the more I think I'm nuts. There is way too much junk here. I have practically all the Little People sets from when DS was little. DD can use some, but quite honestly, she has enough of her own stuff.

Cammie - Glad to hear the school was taking precautions. I know that had to be scary , but better safe than sorry!

Goodnight everyone! After cleaning today I'm ready for some R&R!

So then she told me that it's one girl in her class who talks about this kind of stuff. So I'm sending a nice note to the teacher to please keep her ears open.

:sad2: There's one in every class, isn't there? You were smart to send a note to the teacher.

Watching Idol now - so who's a fan??? And did I read there that there is a Lost thread somewhere?

Had CCD last night - didn't get home until 9; but we caught up (thank you TIVO!) My girls & I love Carly (girl w/Irish accent - think she's so sweet!) As for the men - have not narrowed it down yet. Really liking the young David A.; also the Australian guy Michael; and have to admit, the kid Jason (w/the dreggs?) is appealling to us lately. Must admit, we fast-forward through alot just to get to Simon's comments on everybody. He's a hoot - brutal but right on the money most times! BTW - there are two Lost threads: one is non-spoiler (the one I go to) and the other contains spoilers. I'll post the link later, if you'd like.

Loving the idea of a Disney room; not understanding exactly what you're doing with the "invitations". I'm intrigued, though. Now that we've been to Disney so much, I feel like my whole house could become a "Disney" house. I fight the urge to purchase those Mickey kitchen items I see at WOD & Disneyshopping.com. People may think I'm weird - I keep my Disney obsession hidden from most of the outside world!:lmao:

Believe it or not, I think I've only been to ebay site once in my life - I got into a bidding war for a Coach bag and lost; never returned again. Would love to hear how the experience works for you, Kara. I, too have a ton of old toys I would love to get rid of. We actually have a spare bedroom in our house completely full of American Girl/Bitty Baby stuff: dolls, furniture, clothes. My daughter has one friend that will still plays dolls with her, but I have a feeling that's not going to last much longer.:sad1: I wouldn't get rid of the dolls - just the furniture. Ebay would probably be the best place to do it.

Speaking of Coach, I was a bad girl last night and bought one. I really have no business buying another Coach bag, but they are my obsession  -- and I had a 25% off coupon! So, am I right, ladies? Can't pass up the opportunity to a great deal like that!

:wave2: Hi to Debbie, Renee, Erin, Jillian, Tessa, Tammie, Pam, Pam2, Lisa and all others!(sorry I'm not good at keeping track of everyone!)

Cammie - You are so right about the Coach bag. I always tell DH "it's not how much you SPEND, it's how much you SAVE"! :rotfl2: I've never owned a Coach bag but I just told him this weekend that I WILL have one! There's a Coach outlet down in St Augustine and I passed in on Sunday. I'm a bag hound anyway so I "need" one for my collection!:confused3

As for Idol, I predict the final 3 to be David, Carly and maybe Jason (I think he's "pretty" ). But I really like the Australian guy too (Michael?), and Amanda. I like that she's different.

Here's what I'm doing in the Disney room. On the Creative DISigns thread, there is a gal who has made an invitation for every restaurant at WDW. I've printed them all off in 8x10 and will frame in simple black frames and evenly space along the tops of all the walls. Or I may just do one wall so they're closer together. I think I will have 13 or 14 total. I had another designer do personalized ones for all of us with our names, and the time/date of the ADR, but the ones I'm using are just generic. And then I also have the invitations for the P&PP, and BBB that I'll put up there. And I've framed some other stuff, too.... Here's a sample of some of the things I'm using.

I am so glad to hear that there are other people that thinks Bratz are bad. My DD6 wants one so bad because cousin has them. We just explained we don't have those dolls because they are are made in China. She is still overly concerned about the recalls. (we had to send back a ton of Polly Pockets). It seems to be working. However I dread the day when she puts 2 and 2 together and figures out that almost all toys are made in China.

Kara--
We will probably see you at the BBB on May 6 as our appointment is at 8:30 am.

Hiya ,

reading with interest about the Bratz stuff - we used reverse psychology, we bought a job lot from ebay with clothes, car etc, and now 8 months later my girls 7 and 5 are totally over it.... and I resold on ebay in smaller lots for more than I paid!! Great result all round.

My 2 obsess over what I ban - so I said that they could have the dolls if they didn't ask for the other stuff - i.e. no bedding, no clothes/pyjamas/makeup/clock etc... They played with those dolls non-stop for 6 months, then got over it.....

Now they are into skipping as a phase - so tons of ropes and sore arms for mum and dad at the weekend! Still - they are getting fit for Disney !!:goodvibes

Don't be shy of ebay though girls - I use it ALL the time now to buy and sell - even brand new stuff can be loads cheaper.

Tessa

First of all, Welcome Laura! :cool1: We will be the 7 year old Belle, or maybe in a pretty Sleeping Beauty toile dress I found on disneyshopping.com. I'm giving that to DD for her bday later this month (or I may give as Easter dress - it's that pretty!) and let her choose.

Tessa - yes, DH picked up a "mild" Bratz doll for DD for Christmas a year ago "because she asked Santa for it." Well, sometimes Santa brings what he thinks is best, right? DH is a sucker! So when DSIL got her 2 Bratz dolls, 2 extra outfits, and the board game, I went nuts! Like I said, she plays with the dolls in the tub (that way they aren't in their nasty fishnets and short skirts - they actually look better naked! :rotfl: ), and the clothes went back to Target. The board game is checkers and it's fine. But SIL thought I was crazy when I told her that I just don't approve, and as the mother (and DH agreed with me on this!) I have final say on what my daughter plays with in my house!

I got my first bid on ebay! Still 6 days to go on all 10 listings!

I got all my invitations printed out and framed. I'm getting antsy to get upstairs and get this room done! I need suggestions though for color for the walls! And then I can choose fabric for the window treatments. I thought of a dark yellow, almost gold, or maybe a deep red?

The sleeping beauty dress is very cute.

I have a new obsession to share. I am torn if I should have DD6 wear the princess costume all day.princess: BBB is first in the AM. I have been known to be a pack mule when it comes to a bag I will carry. I have friend that recommended a homemade costume that is basically knit blue skort with the Cinderella puffs on the hips and a cotton t-shirt that also has puffy sleeves. DD is concerned about itchies. I am under the impression that the girls can wear a costume provided by BBB while the hair is done. Is that correct? If not I don't want her to feel underdressed after leaving BBB. Any thoughts?

Hmmm, I don't know about what they wear during the makeover. I thought it was just a cape? :confused3 I was concerned about DD wearing her gown during the P&PP a couple of weeks ago, but it worked out fine, and not a single spot, stain, or tear to be found! :cheer2: Since we're going back in May, I figured I'd judge based on the weather. Shouldn't be too hot or too cool, so she can decide which one to wear. When we went in 2006, I surprised DD with the gown in my backpack (I just rolled it up and it came out fine!) right before our lunch in Akershus with the princesses. She took it off about an hour after lunch though.

Um my DD had this done a year ago and was just given a cape during the makeover .. This year she will be in her dress for the appt as we are doing the pirate: princess: party that evening

DH picked up a "mild" Bratz doll for DD for Christmas a year ago "because she asked Santa for it."

Oh i am with you all on the whole Bratz thing unfortunately DD's friends have bought her quite a few for b'day pressies ggrrr

Hiya all hope you're all having a good day :wave2:

Hi guys! I went back a few pages but don't have a lot of time to read everything. My house is a mess.
Kara -I feel for you with having to explain grown-up things to your DD. I learned the wrong stuff from my friends when I was about her age and my mom set that straight because they told me some strange things. My mom didn't explain it enough, thank goodness but told me that my friends were wrong.
I, too, spoil my DD, and am trying hard not to anymore.
How was the Pirate Princess Party? I didn't read back that far?
Cammie - My school did the same thing when I was in grade school. There was a guy holding what they thought was a gun on his dog across from the school in his house window. He didn't have a gun but was kooky. It was scary for us, too.
Debbie - Hope to see you soon. I have been so busy lately but things are slowing down a bit.
I think I am overreacting but we were supposed to be going to my DH's brother's wedding in Vancouver this summer but they called my DH the other day and said kids weren't invited. They also said that they had rooms set up and wanted only my DH to go to Vancouver. I can't even stay there w/my DH and hang out w/him the day before or after. I know it was going to be an expense but I was all set in going. I find it rude to say that we aren't allowed in Vancouver. I don't know, is it just me.
Well, I really have to clean but I will try to get on here again soon.

I posted a ton of pictures a few pages back from P&PP - loved it!

We were at Belk last night returning some shirts I had bought for DH and I found a nice spring sale on some adorable outfits for DD. As we were checking out she told the clerk, "my mommy buys me whatever I want." Oh, no! My daughter has turned into "one of those" kids! We had a nice little chat afterwards.

When we got married, we did not want kids at the reception, so when I addressed the invitations, they were to "Mr & Mrs X" not "Mr and Mrs X and Family." Most people got the hint but a few kids still showed up and we were prepared to hire sitters if we knew of a lot that had problems with that. No evil reason, we just had an open bar and wanted more of a party atmosphere. But I can't imagine telling a spouse they can't come! :confused3

Well, taking BOTH dogs to the vet at 4:30 today. This is a nightmare. I called DH awhile ago crying. I just can't deal with this anymore. Now Bella (the old dog) starts going to the door every 20-30 minutes, starting around noon. And she just wanders aimlessly outside for about 10 minutes. I can't leave her out by herself for fear something will come out of the woods and get her. She's 10 lbs soaking wet and we have some crazy creatures in the woods - wild turkeys, deer, armadillos, wild boar, plus snakes, lizards, etc. Yeah, I'm REALLY glad we moved here! I lived in SC for 13 years and NEVER saw a single snake! I'm really nervous about what I'll see here!
