Looking for Control Freaks & Worry Warts - Part 4!!!

Hiya all,

well the kids are getting ready to go back to school tomorrow here too!! Just had to go spend £40 on new sweatshirts and gym kit at school today- those girls keep on growing!!!

Tina - how fantastic you kept the surprise going, I would have been bursting to tell them!

Tessa

Tina - great that you're back and had a great time! I can't believe you kept the secret all the way to the resort!!!!! What were other people onthe bus saying? Could they overhear your conversations???? How funny!!!! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

Tessa - seriously, when this little guy said he spoke "American" I immediately thought of you and Erin! I was laughing so hard at him!!! Especially when I think of how we have butchered the English language!!! Yes, I live down south and I've very guilty of "y'all" and some of that slang..... :rolleyes1

Debbie - I am so mad at Jeff! Not my Jeff, but Jeff on Big Brother!!!!!

To everyone else, busy at work today so not much time.... but I did add on another night to my trip with Ally in 3 1/2 weeks. I got a $50 coupon from Expedia for a stay of 2 nights or more. Since I had already booked the Dolphin for one night at only $99/night, I called back to add Friday night for only $49!!! That way we can relax a bit more and not get up so early on Saturday to leave. We'll just leave right after school on that Friday, battle Orlando rush hour, and hopefully get in by 6:30 - I'm trying to book a dinner at MK (MNSSHP is that night), then catch the parade there, all without buying the MNSSHP tickets. Don't want to ride anything, just see the parade.....

So I'm fighting my way through work today - I so don't want to be here!:surfweb: Sent the girls off to their first day of school this morning - I don't know if they're going to make it. We got in last night at 7pm, dinner, showers and off to bed. DD10 couldn't sleep of course so we pulled out the new mini-Pluto she bought and she told all her Plutos about her trip and how excited she was until she finally fell asleep. I'm sad for DD10 today thought, she called her friend (who's been coming over the house to play with her almost every week, slept over a few times and went to the beach with us a few times) to see if she'd sit with her in homeroom. Well this 'friend' says no, because her other friend is in their homeroom too and she doesn't like DD10 so they won't be sitting with her.!! Well thank you very much! All that time I spent trying to help her bond with this girl - I knew pre-tween girls were pitas. DD10 cried for 1/2 an hour. I told her not to worry who knows what will happen in class and to be strong. I'm not worried about DD7 - she pretty much talked to everyone - including the pilot of our plane on the way home - and had no problem making friends with everyone in a three seat radius of her on the plane. She's got some confidence!:cutie:

Since my frig is complete bare I'm going to clean it when i get home tonight (yeah right), well that's the goal anyway. I still have to start laundry - :laundy: - I hate laundry. I will work on my trip report - promise. Just found out we start dance on Friday and then girl scouts next Wednesday - back to the craziness!

BTW - only gained 2lbs!!!

Hiya all,

Tina - only 2lb when on holiday - in America!!!!! Well girls, sorry but the portion sizes over there can be a bit on the large side!!!!! Well done, you'll soon be back on track as they say....

And as for girls and their relationships......:sad2: they seem to excel at making someone feel bad, just be ready with the tissues and a shoulder for a while - it will pass - most kids go through ups and downs in their friendships, as you say if she tries to be strong but go with the flow, she will get along just fine.

Teachers over here don't let friends sit together - for obvious reasons.....less gossip, less noise, less distractions generally, so we don't suffer that angst at least.

Tessa

Tina - That's so cool that it was a total surprise, right up until you got to the hotel!! I can’t believe the kids didn’t figure it out sooner. How exciting for them!

Tammie – Your description of “scooter lady” is killing me. I’m picturing this in my head and cracking up here at my desk…I just hope my coworkers don’t think I’m crazy. HAHA. Glad your cleaning is almost done…what a PITA!

I’m stuck here in my dungeon of an office at work…and while it’s a beautiful mid 70’s outside, they have the HEAT on inside…so EVERYONE is roasting. I’m not quite sure why the heat is on…my only explanation could be because it’s getting down into the 40’s at night…but still. We have 2 preggo ladies in my office (myself and another girl) and I’m DYING…so not only have I reached “beached whale” proportions, but I’m a sweaty mess thanks to the heat being on. Thankfully the other girl is only at the beginning of the 2nd trimester so she’s not overheating so much. I’m so ready to be done…between the swollen feet, symphony of cracking and popping joints and heartburn I’m ready for the baby to arrive.:headache::headache:

Howdy! Downhill slide to the 3-day weekend -- one w/out any commitments, I might add! We do need to try to get by to visit my ILs. The girls and I saw my family last weekend, and have a Sept bday celebration coming up in a couple of weeks, so we won't be visiting them. Our neighborhood friends are having a get together, a last time in the pool kind of thing. Other than that, NOTHING. No Friday night football game because it's out of town tomorrow night. Darrin may go w/his parents because it's near their house. No Saturday band practice. I want to watch tv, play my DS, crochet, work on my parents' scrapbook, and maybe, if I have time, get some house chores done.:rotfl2:

Tina - Way to go on the surprise! Wow! I can't wait to see pics. Congrats on the non-weight gain!

Tammie - Band is going well, thanks! We won our first football game, and of course, the band was the bomb! Darrin missed it, due to his fantasy football weekend, so he is going to make the away game tomorrow night. If it were Friday, I would go, but w/it being a work/school night, Taylor and I will miss it. Megan has 2 tests on Friday after getting home late after the game.:scared1: Oh, to be young again! Glad to hear it's going well for you in Boise!

I agree about the girls and teenage girls. I wish I knew then what I know now. I just tell my girls that it is so unimportant in the grand scheme, that it is so not worth it, try not to let it bother them, etc., etc., but I know that it bothered me too at their ages. I guess the biggest thing we can do is just listen. DD11 was so excited that one of her BFs is in almost all of her classes and has the same lunch period this year, and now this girl is really wearing on her nerves. We've been carpooling w/her parents to/from school, which is going to make it complicated if they don't stay friends....Uggh. Always a soap opera w/girls!

Shelly - 40's at night?!

Hang in there w/the pregnancy. It could be worse. You could be at beached whale proportions HERE in 95F degree weather!:rotfl:

Will fall ever arrive here?? We are supposed to get to 95F today. I am so done w/the hot weather. I don't think you all will ever hear me say I am done w/the cold weather! Bring it on!

Is it too early to drink? I'm having a DAY!

I have a little emergency bottle of tequilia at my desk. If it weren't for the worm inside, I swear that some days I would break it open!:lmao: Seriously.

It's kind of crazy...this entire week we're sitting in the middle of 2 weather systems so our weather is perfect mid-70’s during the day and the nights are upper 40’s to low 50’s. You should see me at night…I have ALL the windows open and the ceiling fans blowing with no blankets on. LOL I wake up and our house is down to 55 degrees. It’s HEAVENLY. Of course, DS gets up (his room is the only one that stays in the high 60’s to low 70’s) and when we go downstairs to get ready for daycare he’ll stand in the kitchen saying “cold….cold…..cold”. Just wait until winter gets here kid….THAT’S cold. ;)

It’s been such a change from the rest of this summer…either super hot and humid or non stop rain.

I’m so ready for fall…it’s my favorite season. Football…pumpkins….the foliage, it’s beautiful.

tina--my heart breaks for your daughter. Girls can be so nasty. Wishing her well!

All I can say is FROST WARNING!!!! Yes we had our first on of the year earlier this week. Yup we had 2 days of summer and back into the freezer. it is 70 out right now but I'm inside working on the silly playground project. I volunteer for too much stuff.

Hi guys! I know I've MIA for the past few days.........Lauren started school yesterday; has had volleyball tryouts every day this week. On my way to get her soon.

BUT------- I have a question of any of you computer-savvy gals...........

what is the best, most reliable, web browser? I've always used internet explorer; but now some people say I should use Firefox; my sis says Safari. :confused3

Do I just google for a free download; and do you know if I can have a couple of different ones on my computer? I am clueless!!!!!

Laura - re: frost warnings. Yesterday, first day of school, Lauren had her outfit all picked out -- white shorts, white tank top with a blue floral strapless shirt over it.

The temparature at 6:40am? 42 DEGREES!!!!!

And she refused to wear a jacket! It did warm up to the high 70s by dismissal though.

RYSC = Raising your Spirited Child

It's a book about dealing with a child who has bigger-than-average reactions to things, often anger or frustration but also happiness. My daughter has been spirted from day ONE.

Oh! That's my DDIL Lindsay! :goodvibes She explained that to me - actually learned about it in Psychology class - great for you to have the tools to deal with it and still keep her self esteem in tact! :thumbsup2

you can have more than one browers on your machine at one time. I'm running firefox and safari. I like firefox. I agree with Lydia, I don't like IE. Too many security risks.

the dog has an interview for a new home tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. she needs to find a place where she can just be. beth is too much for her and me. So we will focus on helping beth find her place in school and go from there. everyone is okay with it.

i have the RYSC book. I keep hoping that Mary Sheedy Kurcinka will have a seminar at our Early Childhood area. She is from Mn and has seminars frequently. I just need to re-read it and find some new techniques.

That is great about the Swan. Do tell about the beds.

Hi Ladies! I had lunch with a great gal - realtor here in town who runs a non-profit called Twisted Sisters - they support military families, especially when the men are deployed. Really nice time.

We're having a fun day tomorrow - Boise state plays our Oregon Ducks tomorrow here. We didn't get tickets, so we're having a little get together here with some of the guys. Barbecuing tri-tip and steak. I'm making some beans and we're having salads and watermelon, and of course beer and Mike's. :thumbsup2 There is alot of hype around town, and of course our guys are getting their green and yellow ready - if you wear it in to the store, you just about get lynched! :rotfl2: This is so much like when we first got married - little efficiency apartment, lots of single air force guys around, or those without their spouses here. A little quiet for me, but I'll be out making friends.

Ryan is working here, so we're taking him and Dana out to dinner on Friday night for his birthday, then we're going rafting on the river Sunday with a big group from the base. Jim has Mon and Tues off, so we're going to go explore some of the outlying areas. I don't think I want to leave here.

Shelly, I'm sorry you were so hot at work. Hope tomorrow is better. It is hard when the weather changes at night. I used to go through that at work, too.

Funny how you're all talking about it getting cold at night. That's how it's been back home for about a month - nice for cooling off the house. Here it's still 70 all night, and we have the air on all night. :0) It was 96 today.

Tina, so sorry your DD10 already had tears from those mean girls. I remember going through those things, only at age 12 and 13. It is just a social learning thing, and out of it you find out who your real friends will be and then you are close all through high school. Hope her day went better. Now bring on those vacation pics!

Cammie, how was Lauren's first day? She probably had to sign autographs, with knowing the Jonas Bros. and everything! :3dglasses

I don't know much about browsers, but I downloaded Chrome when I got Gmail, and then my other stuff wouldn't run with it. Seems some internet sites and Windows programs are not made to work with it, so I unloaded it. I'm sure it will get the glitches worked out.

Lydia - it's always 5:00 somewhere! :drinking1

Hiya ,

Another vote for Mozilla Firefox! I also use the Mozilla Thunderbird for email too, great way to see multiple mailboxes easily.

First day back at school - got to go pick them up now - where does time fly...

Tessa

Happy Thursday!!

So I've got my Live365 up and running to listen to WDW music all day at work! I'm having a cup of French Vanilla coffee - which is a first for me, but I'm still having trouble waking up. Not to worry I won't make it a habit! How many cups do you have a day?

Anyone read the Kingdom Keepers books? I picked up #2 while I was down there and can't put it down and now I hear #3 is due out in April 2010 - can't wait! Blisters on my feet are finally starting to go away! I wore 4 different shoes (2 sneakers and 2 crocs) and surprisingly I think my feet did better with the crocs then the sneakers!

I have to work on a purple courdory pleated skirt for DD10 this weekend and I think tonight I'll take her to payless for shoes - the girl is in a women's size 7 shoe and I can't find anything for her. No open toe shoes for school and she is very "into" her style so we'll have to find shoes to match her outfits. :confused3 They have their BOGO 1/2 sale, so I'm all for that. I just hope DD7 doesn't get any ideas - she has more shoes then all of us combined and only wears the old ragged sparkley ones she got 2 years ago.

Our house computer uses Foxfire and my laptop use IE - if that helps anything. My computer guy installed the foxfire because he liked it better.

OK - I'm going back to work - hope everyone is having a great Thursday - any long weekend plans??:dance3:

Thanks for the opinions guys. I uploaded Firefox yesterday - just weird getting used to. I've always used IE. I also had a ton of virus issues this year.

But yes, I've heard some programs and sites don't always run as well on some browsers as others. I'll keep both but just try to use Firefox more.

Tina - yes, Lauren has read the Kingdom Keepers books. She loved them! I hope you had a great trip. I'll have to back further thread and read how the surprise went over.

Laura - got your pm the other day. Thank you. Meant to pm you back. Still will!:thumbsup2

Tammie - So excited that football season is just around the corner. Although I must admit, we Yankee fans are certainly enjoying baseball season right now. (take that, Tina!;) ) I know you're into the college scene but I'm looking forward to the NFL starting and those sunday afternoons watching the Giants.

And, sadly, Lauren doesn't feel she can brag about meeting the Jonas Brothers at school. She's afraid they'll make fun of her (even takes down her posters when certain friends come over). She has only two friends that like them as much as she does - and one of them doesn't go to her school. But she had a great first couple of days and, best news of all - LOVES all of her teachers so far! Hope that feeling lasts! I'll post a pic of her first day of school outfit.

Speaking of Jonas Brothers.......................did I mention we're seeing them again in October? :rolleyes1 Lauren's friend was disappointed she missed the concert in July because she was away. Well JB has added two shows at a resort/casino in Ct. over Columbus Day weekend. Her friend is DYING to see them so the mom called me and asked if I'd be interested in coming with Lauren and maybe make it an overnight mom/daughter outing. This is the family we stayed with in London two summers ago so we all get along well.

Lauren's response? :hyper: :cool1::worship::banana::woohoo::yay::dance3: :love: :cloud9:

I don't think our seats are good at all but I told Lauren we weren't going to stress about getting good seats and laying out that money. Just being in the building and getting to see them again is all that matters. Of course, now she and her friend want to stalk the resort the night before the concert, hoping to bump into them.

And CRAP! I just realized I can make my ADRs in TWO days and I haven't put together a schedule AT ALL for our Dec. trip! That is on the top of my MUST-DO list for these next few days!
