We're in central Illinois and would like to know of a place that rents RV's or pop up campers to take down to Fort Wilderness. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced RV rental place?

You might want to try Cruise America, they have offices around the country includung one in Orlando, so you could drive down your own car and rent the RV there(cheaper on gas that way).

Try going to the Costco web site. RV Rental is one of the catagories under Travel. There may be discounts associated with it.

Don't forget to figure out how much Gas will cost. My dad's RV gets EIGHT miles to the gallon. (Yes you read that right LOL!) His is generally bigger then the rental one's but....

If you don't need it for the drive to FL, you might be able to rent one locally.
I think that there is a large rental agent in Plant City.

:wave2: :thumbsup2 I think there's a camper/rv place over in Pekin that might rent them?? and I have seen a commercial for some camper dealership not to far from Peoria, can't recall the name of the town. sorry. good luck!!

This has been looked into by a lot of DIS'ers.

The consensus seems to be that for what you'll pay in base rental, milage, generator fees, and gas, you could buy plane tickets, get a rental car, and two rooms at a value or one room at a deluxe.

You're probably looking at $2000 for a nine day base rental with some miles, and another $200-400 in excess milage.

Gas will run you another $1000 or more.

Then you've got to pay campground fees. Expect minimum four days round trip travel time, so you'll need to overnight someplace on the way as well. At WDW plan on a minimum of $50 per night for your campground.

Well said. We did a summer trip to upstate new york, and for a weeklong rental (nothing real fancy, but adiquite) with gas, generator costs and rental of the actual RV, we were in it for $2000, the cost of plane tickets for 6, rental car and 5 days at a Courtyard Marriott...Also, beware of extra costs, because most companies only allow you a certain number of hours on the generators and what not...I felt kind of ripped off after the experience, not to mention, they ride like armored tanks
