Local police taser a 10 yr. old girl

Actually, tazering her is equivalent to physically harming her, maybe even worse. At least that's what I can tell after seeing and hearing various cases of people getting tazered.
I still think it might have been safer for him/her then having to restrain her and her bitting him or what not

How bad was the fit? Maybe she was in danger of hurting herself or someone much worse.

I don't know but I doubt that most police officers would resort to a taser.

Actually to the best of my knowledge this child has never had a spanking from anyone (maybe that's her problem:cool1:). Yes Arkansas and a few other states still have corporal punishment but it's a rare occasion that our school ever uses it. Also parents can opt out. This child has zero discipline and when she is out of control at school they call her mother. Lately her mother's answer is to call the police.

Wonder if they have ever had the child tested for being Bi-polar? No I did not read the article.

Considering that people have died from the use of a tazer gun, I hardly think it's appropriate to use on a child who is having a temper tantrum.. The officer could have easily called for back up and I think two police officers would have been able to handle a 10 yr. old, 70 lb. child..

Should have used it on the mom instead for giving permission..:headache:
I agree!

And from what I understand a tazer gun can leave burn marks on the skin. Someone correct me if I have been given wrong info!

According to the local paper today the girl refused to take a shower and get ready for bed. The mayor is being flooded with calls about an inquiry. According to the story officer Bradshaw said when he arrived the girl was in a ball screaming and crying. He and the mother carried her to the bathroom to take a shower and she refused. He carried her to the living room told her she was under arrest she was resisting as he was carrying her she kicked him. He tased her in the back she then allowed the hand cuffs to be put on but refused to walk and he carried her to the car. I really feel like our police officers have more important things to do than make sure hysterical ten year olds take a shower.

Unless this child had a gun pointed at this officer, then I think it is absolutely ridiculous to taser a 10yo girl! This officer should be fired.

And to the OP - you are blaming the mom for the officers actions? Why? Because you know this officer? I am sorry, he could have and should have handled this differently. He should be ashamed of himself.

That's just wrong:mad:. The officer should be fired and the mother should be tazed. If a parent ever tazed their own child, they would surely be arrested.

I'm confused...the mother called a male police officer to get a 10 yo girl into the shower? My 11 yo doesn't even want her father to see her naked, let alone some stranger.

Besides why call the police to get a child to bathe? :confused3

I'm with you. And how small is this town that the police actually came to the house. :confused3 I wonder if I call my local cops tonight and tell them DD won't take a shower, will they come out to my home to help? I think the only reason they'll come out is to check ME for mental illness and not the kid. :sad2: This whole story is just sad.

my thoughts exactly:confused3

Hmm... this is just crazy!

As the DW of a police officer, all I can say is that I know it would have been my DH's "you-know-what" if he tazed a 10 year old... he would have lost his job!

But in SOME departments, the Taser is widely used and not thought of as anything out of the ordinary. My DH says it depends on the department's policy. Either way, a grown man should have been able to call for backup if he couldn't take a 10 year old on his own.

Crazy is:

Calling the police because a 10 yr. old is throwing a temper tantrum because she doesn't want to take a shower..

The police department actually sending an officer out there..

Mom giving permission for the police officer to use the tazer on a 10 yr. old who doesn't want to take a shower.

Police officer not calling for back up because he couldn't restrain a 10 yr. old..

Police officer using a tazer on the 10 yr. old, 70 lb. child who did not want to TAKE A SHOWER!!!!!!
----------------------------------

That one has to go down in the books as the craziest (and most stupid) situation I have ever heard of..

No wonder the mayor is getting flooding with calls! :sad2:

Actually I blame both of them and I know the mom, the daughter, the officer and everyone else involved. I can't imagine telling the officer to go ahead and tase her if you have to. I also can't imagine calling the police because I can't control my 10 year old daughter. I think both of them should have handled it differently. That being said one of the step grandmothers was just talking to me and said this child is uncontrollable when she has one of these fits and if you try to get near her she will hit, bite, and kick. She also said the girl was recently suspended for three days for throwing a desk and saying f-u bword to her teacher. So I'm back not really knowing what should have been done.

I don't understand why he didn't call for backup. Once they had made the decision that she needed to be removed from the home and taken to the youth shelter get some more help and maybe she might have calmed down. I don't know. This isn't her first time to be charged with disorderly conduct and battery. I know she's been to court before it seems to me that she would be removed from the home or sent to a hospital for observation? Something besides this.

What should have been done was to get this child help long ago. This is apparently not new behavior.

Yes. The child needs help, probably psychiatric, and tasering her should not have been an option.

Just crazy!
