LIVVY-Has She DUNNE anything wrong?

Behavior like what? Posting pictures of herself on social media like the majority of people her age?
I didn't open and look at the article at work, I didn't know what to expect. I was expecting OnlyFans and/or... I wasn't expecting a non-story of normal social media that everyone else does in the sense that all the kids are doing.

Exactly! I was also expecting something way more explicit. She's just posting pictures from her daily life on social media like the majority of people her age. I even looked at her instagram to see if there was something I was missing. The picture in the first post here is probably the most provocative on her instagram and it's part of a montage of shots with her doing a bunch of silly poses.

The only real info about her that the article gave was that she asked her fans to please be respectful if they come to a gymnastics event. The issue is with the boy/men's behavior, not hers.

Olympic Silver Medalist Samantha Peszek was walking out of the area last week in Utah and filmed this:

Olympic Silver Medalist Kathy Johnson Clarke was behind Sam and saw the same thing.

This is not a Livvy Dunne problem. This is a case of the fans not being in control of themselves and the parents allowing it. This is not any different than they crazy older women and teens chasing Justin Bieber down a street.

Suni Lee, who won Gold in the last Olympics, competes for Auburn. She has to have a security detail follow her and she doesn't put herself out there on SM like Livvy Dunne does.

Dunne didn't even compete in this meet as she is injured.

Even if she "toned it down"to full Amish, there will still be Lord of the Flies dudes raging like they did in this video. All that Yellow #5 and corn syrup haven't put a dent in human hormones. Goods news, in a way, since I suffer no lasting affects from my former Baja Blast addiction.

Honestly, if all social media ceased to exist, this would be less of an issue. This sad behavior would be called out more and happen less because the money would not be there to make companies rich. The world is becoming a sadder place every new decade. 🙁

The sad behavior is obviously the teenaged boys. This behavior is reminiscent of teenaged girls going crazy over the likes of Elvis.

True, but social media helps enable the behavior. If nothing is posted on the internet, people wouldn’t respond to it. I don’t condone the behavior by the boys, just pointing out that social media in general opens a door to it.

Well, she apparently has $2.3M in NIL deals, so the one thing I can say, as an LSU alum, is that if she wants to monetize fame this way, she should be personally paying for the traveling security that the team now has to have for meets. (Lord knows the University has better uses for their rapidly dwindling funding.)

I'm fairly sure that she is probably prohibited from appearing in her team apparel in photos such as the one above, though looking around, I've seen a couple of shots that probably push that limit, including a series where she is draped over a chair in rather provocative poses while wearing a team leo, with an unmade bed as the backdrop. The tableau is pretty obviously calculated to fuel fantasies. (And given that most of her fans are apparently under-age, is also little bit squicky, IMO.)

PS: I agree that the fan behavior is the primary problem, and that parents need to step up to teach these kids that acting this way is unacceptable, but it's much easier in real terms to address the attraction that is causing it, especially since it is one individual's actions, than to try to change the behavior of hundreds of fans. Hopefully her fans will honor her request to stop disrupting meets, but given their average ages, I'm not so sure how effective that will be. However, NCAA gymnastics also has a role to play; they need to police their events and eject people who are causing disturbances that potentially put athletes at risk. It needs to be made crystal clear that rowdy, threatening behavior will not be tolerated.
Since you are a LSU Alum I think your opinion probably carries more weight than the rest of us.

Do you think most of LSU Nation feels like you do?

I see both sides as well, the Boys should behave, but when Livvy laughs as she talks about "a video where I am in my Bikini doing flips on the beach IN SLOW MOTION" and laughs talking about boys "wanting to buy my bath water" etc.,etc.,I can't help but think she should shoulder at least a little bit of the blame.

Hopefully the new Security measures Jay is implementing will ensure an uneventful Meet tomorrow at Kentucky and for the rest of the Season.

Gymnasts are the most talented Athletes in Intercollegiate Athletics and it would be a shame to see all their hard work overshadowed as it was at Salt Lake City.

I guess I don't get it? This is the first time I'm hearing about her.

She's pretty, yes, but I don't get the hysteria. Many college-aged girls have a similar look. Like most people, her Instagram photos are mostly enhanced with photoshop. Her at competitions is not what she looks like on Instagram.

Almost makes you wonder if it's a setup to get more attention to her account. "Show up and scream LIVVY!! WE WANT LIVVY!!" and get paid $20. You'd be surprised what influencers will do for an increased following.

Unless I'm missing something...

I don't necessarily think that LSU Nation (if you meant the sports fan base) think she's pushing a limit, but I also used to work for the university, and unless things have changed out of all recognition, they are picky about people linking the university to publicity that they (the University) cannot have some control over. Certainly in my day there were very strict rules about what athletes in uniform could be photographed doing. Those of us who are older certainly remember those rules and know that when we were students we would have gotten into trouble for posing in some of the ways that she has while wearing team clothing. I'm honest enough to say that colors my opinion. It was drilled into me that such a thing was inappropriate for someone visibly representing the university, and that lesson stuck.

I asked my teen DD if she thought that Livvy Dunne bears any responsibility for the reactions she is getting in terms of inviting any of it; and DD's reaction was pretty typical for her age group; she said, and I quote, "Just because people do stupid things to get her attention, you can't blame the influencer for that." The thing is, in my mind, if you actually bill yourself as an "influencer", then you have to take some responsibility if your behaviour "influences" people to do things that threaten those around you. Certainly at least to the extent of paying for security.

How about people stop telling XX women what they can or should be?

Used to be women were told to be "good enough" they were supposed to stay home.
In the 80's women were told to be "good enough" they were supposed to work outside the home.
Used to be women were told to be "good enough" they were supposed to appear pure.
In the 80's women were told to be "good enough" they were supposed to sleep with anything that wanted them.

At what point will women earn the social support of a right to self determination and when will we get parades about it?
The whole power dynamic is absurd, LEAVE OUR GIRLS ALONE!

Influencers do hold sway over their audience, but there's a difference between influencing someone to buy a certain product, or go on Twitter explicitly inciting a mob or riot.

Given the history of aggressive fan behavior towards celebrities over the decades, those boys could be just as rabid even if Dunne suddenly dressed as Holly Hobbie. They're responsible for their own behavior, and this girl isn't a pied piper commanding them to show up screaming at venues.

Unless I'm mistaken: Did she send out a post specifically calling for guys to show up to the venue and be cringy? A Call to Cringe? Was the Dunne Signal cast over Gotham City? OR were they behaving like any bunch of crazed fans at a rock concert? I was under the impression that this Twitter post was explicitly about their behavior, not hers.

There's nothing new about fandom, and this story isn't any different. Unless it's just because.... she's an athlete at LSU? Her audience is just another bunch of boys, hormonal, whose brains aren't even fully mentally developed at that age. Being grouped together in a mob at a sports event probably doesn't lend itself to contemplative, individual thought either.

Ultimately I don't see Dunne or LSU having much control over fan behavior, outside of LSU preventing boys from showing up to these events (and they wouldn't). The most of what I got from this thread was seeing a bunch of dudes acting like drunk kids playing Mario Kart.

Remember when Elvis was on Ed Sullivan, and the network insisted he be shot from the waist up, because this was considered too sexual for TV? Surely that gesture must have prevented so many fans from going crazy!

Thanks.

I definitely have to think the LSU admin was not overly excited about the bedroom pics!lol

I agree that would be a great gesture for Livvy to offer to pay for the extra Security.

Hopefully tonight will not see any repeat of Salt Lake City and that will be the end of it.

Livvy is really having a terrible week though, now she is in a "feud' with Markell Washington!lol

The LSU athletic website lists her social media handles with links (actual links to TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram) before her official bio, unlike the bios of the other 18 gymnasts on the 2023 roster. Seems they don’t have a problem with what Livvy is posting. I thought that was interesting.

Livvy is bringing fans into the gymnastic venues, which means LSU is making more money because of her "status."

She's not only making money for herself, but more money for the university. LSU now leads the nation in attendance for gymnastics meets.

Livvy is at the College World Series and it looks like an older demographic is joining in on Livvymania.

Some are saying the pic is a little "cringeworthy".lol

Is it just me or do her hands look unnaturally large in the photo because of the angle?
