Live from Disney! (with pics)

Enjoyed your report as usual, and now I've gone looking for info on the cruise, something I never thought I'd do! Cass I'm sorry the food isn't up to par for you, I hope it gets better soon! There's nothing like a good meal is there! Aww poor Rob now being famous for liking his treats! Cool how you are both getting recognised now :flower: . Well I'm sure you've both noticed how many readers you have, I mean 17,000 reads so far, wow! When I found your report today at first I yelled for my BF to help because I saw the spaces you had left but no pictures at first, haha  (he can always make them show themselves, the wierdo ;) )
but then I scrolled down and the day was saved :flower:

And thank you guys for having a nice long vacation, there's quite a bit to look forward to still, yeah!

I was telling my husband about you guys awesome trip last night, I told him you were on my dream vacation!

It is so fun to read your reports! :sunny:

Hi again!

Today is a very relaxing day and we are vegging out in our room for a few hours so I thought I would post a few things that I forgot about…

OurDogCisco, thanks for posting the link on the cruise board! Much appreciated.

Okay, our assistant server is Melanie not Marie (told ya he would remember!)

Internet is pretty good when we are in the atrium. We have gotten spotty connectivity in our room and Rob was able to get excellent connection right next to the Deck 5 Aft Elevators, which is where I plan on posting from here on out.

Now, I don’t mean to sound negative but I have to admit that this experience on DCL is WAY different from our first experience on DCL in January 2002. That first cruise was amazing!! I don’t think I had a bad meal, we had amazing service everywhere and I have raved and raved about that cruise for 3 years now! I know that I keep comparing this cruise to the last but I can’t help it since the last one was so incredibly fun!

Before I go on to tell you some things that have gone wrong, let me just preface it by saying I LOVE THIS SHIP, it’s gorgeous and I LOVE CUISING!!. I love the feel of the sea and the last cruise was the best 7 nights of sleep I have ever had in my life! Over on our DIS meet thread, someone had posted a funny photo of the DCL itinerary in which is goes to sea and just circles and comes back…because of all the hurricanes….this would be just fine with me! I cruise for the Disney Magic not really for the destinations (except for Castaway Cay).

Okay, onto some things that I’ve noticed or didn’t like…

I am SO lucky we have a verandah, in fact when we upgraded, we got the LAST available verandah but there has been a pool of water out there since we got here (except for the one hour after they sucked it all up yesterday) and can’t really go out there unless we want our shoes to get all wet. I was out there in bare feet this morning but it felt all yucky. I left a note for Orlando, our stateroom attendant asking him to suck it up again but it’s 12:30pm now and it’s still there. We also haven’t had ice yet in our room. There is a little card in our room asking us when we want ice and I checked off morning and evening. Still no ice yet…

Rob noticed quite a bit of hair in the bathroom when we first got here, and it wasn’t ours!
Don’t get me wrong, I am still loving our room but you really can notice the wear and tear! (some of the drawers don’t close, holes in the sheets, burn marks on the furniture etc.)

My biggest beef yesterday was with us changing rooms. Now I totally understood that our luggage would be delayed a bit since we changed from 2610 to 5146 but we didn’t get 3 out of 4 bags until 6pm and my last (most important bag) didn’t get here until just after 10pm!!

Also, we knew Dreams had sent us a stateroom gift and we were expecting our Castaway Club gift but it wasn’t there. We asked Orlando about it and he said he would go check out 2610 for it. Well when we got our luggage at 6pm, attached to one of our bags was a plastic bag with some stuff in it. There were our dining tickets, a navigator, a brand new men’s shaver, a room key with the name OConnor on it and a tag for a Memory Keepsake Box from Dreams to us but no Memory Box. I went down to Guest Services to clear it up and after about 20 minutes with Tracey, she told me she would have to get back to me. This morning on my way to post, Orlando gave me a Castaway Club bag in plastic.

I guess the thing that irks me is that if I wasn’t totally obsessed with DCL and the DIS, I wouldn’t know about this stuff and wouldn’t know to ask for it.

Instead of feeling like a special returning cruiser, I felt like I had to climb ladders etc, to get my free gift. There was no letter to say welcome back, just a bag. I know it may sound silly, but it’s one of the things that I like about Disney, it’s that little bit of magic and I am sad to say that we really haven’t felt much magic since we’ve been here. Still waiting on that Memory Box.

Also there’s no TV channel with the Report from the Bridge and map to tell us where we are. Another thing I loved about our last cruise.

Also, our servers are mediocre. Not bad, but not good either. Melanie keeps reaching across me to serve Rob, I’ve never seen a server do that before! He had some coffee for dessert last night and reached for his cup right across and close to my chest, poured it and then reached right across me again, so I was a little nervous about the hot coffee 2 inches away from my chest LOL!!!

Also, since we changed our dining rotation, our character breakfast changed (should have been this morning) but no one bothered to tell us. I had to ask the head waiter about it but Moose & Jeannine wouldn’t have known what it was or that it would have changed along with our rotation.

Okay, enough complaining Cass! I really am having a great time, so these aren’t big things but it really doesn’t compare to our last Disney cruise that’s for sure. If you haven’t read my previous report, follow the cassworld link below and click on Trip Reports to read it, photos are there too as is a 7 minute video from our trip on the Videos menu.

Okay, how about some good things about this cruise….

They are handing out disinfectant hand towelettes in all the dining areas! Good idea!
We found a fabulous fruit bar at the breakfast buffet this morning!
The welcome aboard show was very funny, especially Freddy Fusion!
The dive-in movies are fabulous, another great idea.

We are looking forward to the rest of the trip which takes us to Sint Maarten, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay.

And most importantly, NONE of us are sick yet!! (If you’ve read my previous trip reports, one or both of us always get sick on vacation)

Check in with you guys later! Thanks for reading and letting me whine…perhaps I should order some cheese with that! (hmm all hands on deck sounds good right about now!)

Cass and Rob,

Hope the rest of the cruise shows you some real MAGIC! Sorry it hasn't lived up to the previous one. It's always so disappointing when a 2nd trip isn't as great as the first.

have a fantastic day, eat some yummy food (PD for a good meal), and enjoy yourselves. Thanks again for letting us all tag along! and hopefully you'll get the water sucked up and some ice!

Thanks for posting! And thanks for staying here! I Love, love, love your trip report!

Enjoying your trip report :flower: . Things on land were going so well. Great idea the two of you had, going out with a "bang" before the baby.

I hope the food on the cruise improves for you soon. I hope your stateroom service improves as well. Thanks for taking the time to post. Your pics are so fun to see.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I remember your restroom pics from back when :p .

We just cruised on NCL's Pride of America earlier this month. The tiles in the Men's restrooms were so funny and unexpected. I wouldn't have known about them if someone from my cruise hadn't had her husband take pics of them and then post them on our thread. There are people interested in your hobby, so you go girl!

LOve this Thread..We will be boarding when you guys are leaving! SO I mam keeping an eye on this!~

Love, love, love the reports, and Cass, you're not whining -- all the little things add up. Enjoy the rest of the cruise!

Oh no.....no channel with the report from the bridge! I loved to watch that.

Hope the rest of the trip goes well and no one gets sick. Thanks for reporting. Now off you see your website!

I have never heard anyone complain about Disney food so much! Maybe you're just going to the wrong places. My sugggestion, stick to the sweets and ice cream, I think your DH has the right idea! Hope you find something better!!!! (except those yummy eggs) And Happy belated Anniversary!!!

Great pictures and report. Thanks so much. :flower:

Glad to hear that you're still having a good time. I hope the food and service improve. It's impossible to live up to the perfect cruise that you had a few years ago, but it sounds like these things are just mediocre - and we all know that Disney can do better. I'm crossing my fingers that these things fall into place. Enjoy!

I just wanted to add my thanks for these reports. I've been following them since the beginning and they are all great. Thank you again.

I hope everything works out now for the rest of your cruise. It sounds like most of the problems you encountered were mostly attributed to the fact that you upgraded to another room the day of the cruise. I imagine most of the stuff (Castaway club gift, etc.) would have been in your room if you hadn't upgraded. But I'm sure the upgrade is worth any little hassle. I'm sure now that every thing has been straightened out things should go more smoothly.

And there's one more thing about the servers. We had such great memories from our first cruise's servers that on our next DCL experience we were a bit disappointed the first night with our servers. However, it seemed to just be a case of them not knowing us yet and by the 3rd or 4th day of our cruise we realized that our servers were actually better and more fun than from our first cruise on DCL! It may just take a day or two for your servers to warm up to you. Don't worry and enjoy your cruise!!

BTW the photos of the new big pool-side screen make it look really cool. I think that was an excellent addition during the dry-dock. As an aside, what did they do to Scoops? Anything besides a name change?

Glad to see all is still going well. Can't wait to hear more.

I am so glad you are posting the good and some disappointments. I agree with the other poster that said it helped them with expectations! I totally agree... it is good to know what to expect, both the good, and the not so good.

What did you make your door sign out of? Was it regular cardstock or magnetic paper? It's great, and I need to start thinking of making mine. Did you use a program to do it? :goodvibes

I don't think you're complaining too much, Cass. It's good to hear the goods & the bads. Sometimes I think we have on our Disney Colored Glasses & don't talk about things that could go better. That feedback is important too.

Have a Great Day today - Crossing my fingers for you for better food (I'd be going a little nuts if I was having bad food days) Looking forward to your next installment.
