Hey, Linda!

You were really on a roll there! :cool1: Don't get discouraged that you have taken a breather. If you are keeping up the exercise that is half the battle! :cheer2: Keep at it! I know you can do it! :cheer2:

You'll get back on track when she's gone. You've done too good in the past not to!!

do you wind up w/ different colored hair when your sister comes to town.....I always do... :confused3

Okay I'm baaaack! Metaphorically speaking anyway, I havent actually gone anywhere. My sister is gone and I'm trying to get back on track. I have decided to finish up the nutrisystem food that I have now and not order anymore. It doesnt seem to be working anymore and I'm sick of it, plus its so expensive. So august will be my last month on nutrisystem, at least for a while. So whats next?

I am going vegan. It was on tv the other day that a vegan diet, no meat no eggs no dairy, reversed type 2 diabetes and gave normal blood sugar levels in 3 months. Now, I am not diabetic, but I am insulin resistant , which is why I have so many problems with losing the wieght anyway, so I am gonna give it a shot. And you think giving up sweet tea is a chore? Actually I think I will be fine with no meat, its the eggs and diary that will be hard. Not specifically, but as ingredients in stuff. So it will take some work. I will take this month to study up on it and see what my strategy will be. Lazy and hate to cook are some obstacles I imagine.

Sorry this is gonna be a long post cuz I have a small sister vent. Heres what happened. I have mentioned my wonderful son on here before, who happens to be a wonderful drummer among other things. Well. my sister is a musician and music teacher. Actually, a music snob. Her children are, of course, much more talented than my son, who couldnt possible be very good, since I am his mom. My son is a snare drummer in his high school marching band (I know you dont know this but its a huge honor , as he is just a freshman, and snare drum is a coveted position), her boys are in jazz ensembles, and go to "gigs" They would not of course stoop to "marching bamd" The thing is, marching drum corps are very popular now, and hes really good. So my son wants my sis to hear him play, since she is a musician, he values her opinion (I am just his mom, so my opinion is worthless). So he plays a very complicated piece for her. And she says.....nothing. nothing ...not a word. No.....good job, that was impressive....no....what a difficult piece.....nada. I was seriously torqued. He talked to me about it later, and I just said, I have no idea why she acted like that. His response was....I think she is jealous and wishes her kids were this good. Leave it to him to pat himself on the back (kind of sideways) even if the adults around him wont. Anyway, no big deal, and my son asked her to come watch his band practice before she left. So she came up to the school with her daughter and watched. Karma comes for a visit! A woman I dont even know was talking to my mom, asking who she was watching and my mom said....kevins my grandson.....this woman just poured it on! Kevin is soooo wonderful, he is such a leader...he ran the orchestra pit last year and we just love him! and that was nt all. A few minutes later another woman came and talked to me.....and she said....I wish we could just clone kevin, then wed have an awesome band! And yes my sister did get to hear both these things said so I felt very redeemed. Okay..vent over.

good luck with it...I did it for convienience, and I'm sick to death of it.

Welcome back!!!! :goodvibes Best wishes for your vegan lifestyle! I admire you for trying it. I don't think I'd have the discipline!

How TERRIFIC that your mom and you got to hear such great comments about your son (even if your sister wouldn't compliment your son!). Sounds like you're on fire with your healthy lifestyle. I've never tried a stair machine. It's probably amazing exercise. I'll add that to my list!

Have a great week!

thanks for the good wishes CJK! Wow you are kicking butt on the exercise challenges! I have done terribly the last 2 months and I'm DETERMINED to get back going!

Anyway , so far so good today. Worked hard and ate nutrisystem food at work....I have so much I hope I get it gone in a month! By the time I got home from work and had dinner it was time to pick up the boy and I got home at 9. Then I started exercising. 45 mins on stairmachine and 15 mins ablounger.

I tried those new multigrain minis and they are yummy! I also checked out the vegetarian section of my grocery and found lots of available replacement foods...burges hot dogs and chicken (well not chicken ) strips, also lunch meats, even bacon. Lots of diff. fake cheeses, including cream cheese. I bought some of the chocolate low fat soy milk and it was ok. I will keep checking it out and see what I think. I'm sure the health food grocery has more choices too.

:hippie:

I forgot about my on track challenge....thats pretty sad isnt it? Anyway, starting over so this would be 2 days on track.

2/90

Mixed bag today...too much food but not enough calories to worry about. I got my exercise in, even tho I'm seriously pooped. I've said it before...shift work sux. I had the early shift today. and thurs and fri also...six day work week this week. We also got bad bad news at work. Too complicated to explain, but it means a pay cut, probably can hold out 2 years or so if were lucky, but it might be 30,000 cut, or even more. Scary stuff. Basically the FAA promised we wouldnt lose pay, then decided to "restructure" instead. (if the job structure is different, they can structure pay on a lower scale) I really dont know anyone that can stand that level of pay cut. Me and the boy talked and decided we could skimp and save for the next 2 years, and hopefully be able to keep the house until he graduates. I was gonna move then anyway..theres no reason to stay here after hes out of school. I have 4 yrs 7 months and 3 weeks til retirement. Oh well...we could always move into an apartment if we had to.

Ok I know the food is bad, but I'm not going to beat myself up about it. the idea of journaling is to write it all down even when its bad. The total cals are not bad enough for me to worry about so I'm just gonna try harder tomorrow. When I have early shifts I tend to eat more, I'm having breakfast at 7 intead of 10 and yet I dont go to bed until 11 anyway, so its just too long a period for those 1000 cal days.

I'm calling it on track so 3/90

:hippie:

Hey Linda! Welcome Back!!
As for your sister goes, I think the women at the practice summed it up. Who cares what she thinks!! She probably is jealous.
Congrats on ending Nutrisystem and trying something new. I think that's awsome. If it works, GREAT....it if doesn't, well at least you tried something different. Don't beat yourself up if it doesn't....I know I couldn't do the Vegan thing....I LIKE MEAT!! Keep us informed on how it's going!

Sorry to hear about the job cuts and pay cuts.....that sucks. Where I work, they told us they were going to cut the office staffs hours to 35 a week....but it would only be for a month or two....that was 2 years ago!!! I'm glad your son is so mature that he understands cutting back and skrimping...too often kids just don't get the struggles we face. Hang in there...you'll be fine!!

marie

Thanks marie. I am going to be getting rid of the nutrisystem food for at least a month. It seems to be multiplying in the pantry. I am trying a few vegan substitute foods to see if I think I can do it. I tried the chocolate soy milk and it is good. The first time I tried it I thought it was kinda wierd but now its seems just fine. I am hoping it will work. Those studies were very promising.

Today went pretty well. Okay, the food is not good, but I didnt eat much, so its okay. I also went and walked outside. I havent been doing it because of the heat, but I decided to try today. I did 2 miles, one at a time. I came in and cooled off after each. So I am ready to get back in the groove, which should help cuz I really dont like to just do the stairmachine.

Reference the pay cuts I mentioned yesterday, I got in the books and if I am reading the info correctly (my supervisor thinks I am) they can only cut our pay 4% at a time , per grade level. So I think the max would be 8 %. Not as bad as we were originally told, but it will still hurt ( my budget is kinda tight...I'm what you call mortgage poor)

I am eligible to retire in less than 5 yrs, and my boy graduates high school in 4. My plan has always been to sell the house when hes out of school and move back to the city. In my city they are really making it beautiful. I am partial to the new condos on the river. I think I will need to win the lottery tho to live there. I keep dreaming tho!

:hippie:

You're my idol for keeping your calories down. If I have less than 1200, I feel faint! It might be in my head though, who knows!

I'm glad to hear the pay cut situation may not be as bad as previously thought. A friend of mine just moved into a condo and he wishes he had done this years ago. Hopefully you'll get there one day too!

Keep up the great work! :sunny:

Thanks CJK. I struggle to keep the calories down too. I mean, I wouldnt faint or anything but I want to snack! Today I did okay. I really should have gotten a little more exercise, but I did ok.

I was walking today and my right foot started hurting so I had to stop after 20 mins. I cant figure it out, I am wearing the same shoes I wore before. Maybe since I had to stop for a while my feet arent used to them. So frustrating, I wasnt the least bit tired but I know if I kept going I would get blisters.

I only have 1 day off this week so I probably have to clean the house tomorrow. Bleeeckk. I did manage to clean out the fridge and freezer today and let me tell you...it was yucky. I should really be ashamed. But its clean now! My weird son, will just stick half of whatever he is eating in the fridge. Just stick it in there uncovered, like hes gonna eat it in 5 mins. He is the only kid I have ever seen eat 1/2 a cookie. It is bizarre.

Hi, Linda! Sorry I have been AWOL for so long.

Sorry to hear about the work situation, but at least you got some advanced notice so you can plan. And you sound like you have a decent plan worked out so far. I hope it all works out for the best for you.

Interesting choice of diet change. I know you can do it! :cheer2: My sister is a vegetarian and one of her friends is vegan. It is a little bit harder, but it is feasible. There are loads of health benefits to soy also. My sis lost a LOT of weight when she first became a vegetarian. I recommend that you check out Mollie Katzen's cookbooks. They are vegetarian and not vegan, but a good many of the recipes would be considered vegan. I will ask my sister for any other suggestions that she might have. Also on the soy milk, my mom is diabetic and when she was diagnosed she switched to soy for its healthy benefits. I am iffy about it but she really likes it.

Way to go on your staying on track challenge! :cheer2: :cheer2: I know you can hang in there! :cheer2: Your exercise is looking good too!

Keep up the good work! :sunny:

Well I had a very full day today. I took my boy to the National Hot Rod Show. It was fun. It was very hot tho and I think we walked 10 miles. Just the walk from parking had to be about a mile. I'm counting 60 mins walking for exercise, I think thats fair. I was also very good. There is so much food there! I managed to resist corn dogs, funnel cakes, nachos, pork chops, bbq, and even ehrlers ice cream cones. All I had was water.

I also cleaned my bathroom tile today, down on my knees scrubbing. It is so clean! I'm counting that as exercise too, it was hard. So at least I accomplished something today.

I tried a few more soy things too. I had a smoked sausage and it was weird, but not bad. It tasted pretty good but felt strange. Doable tho. I also had mac and soy cheese for dinner. This was a packaged deal and I want to try some of these for taking to work. It was pretty good. It was huge. I realize I have been eating teensy portions with nutrisystem, but I was stuffed at dinner, having this and some veggies. Lots of calories too tho, 370 for that, that twice what I usually have for a meal, but waaaay more filling. And last but not least...tofu dessert! It was a frozen ice cream sandwich type thing and it was delicious. Anyway I was afraid I was gonna go over on my calories with those items, but I didnt!

Great job as usual!! I'm interested in hearing what you think of various soy products. I'd like to get some more soy into my diet and hearing your reviews is very helpful. That tofu dessert sounds like a dream!!! I hope it's available in Canada! Keep up the good work and have a great week!!

Thanks CJK! So far, of the things I'v tried , its all been pretty good. This week I'm gonna get some of the soy lunch meat products and try to find some egg replacement stuff.

I had a good day today, but I have a quick turn and have to go back to work early. Usually this is not an early shift, but my son has registration tomorrow and they dont let us take leave from work for that kind of thing anymore, so I had to do the early shift. Registration is from 1-6. This really gets me...do they think we dont work? Unfortunately, I think that is what they think...or at least that we shouldnt. There are a lot of stay home moms in this area and I think they think everyone should be punished if they work. Not saying I have anything against stay home moms, I think they are blessed, but I dont have that particluar luxury. Anyway....just a quick entry tonite

Taking a day off from logging my food. I didnt eat very much so Im sure Im ok. No exercise either. Busy day, They told us today we no longer get any "guaranteed" vacation time. In other words, we earn leave (most of us earn 5 weeks a year), we can put in for it, but we wont know if we get it until 28 days in advance, and even if they approve it, they can rescind it at the last minute....and tell us our vacation is cancelled...sorry about your luck. Quite frankly...this is just plain meanness. How can anyone book any kind of vacation anymore with that hanging over them. Anyway since I am kind of the schedule "expert" they gave me some data to look over (at home, on my own time of course) to try to figure out some way to give ppl their vacations next year. So I have been pondering that tonite and now I'm pretty depressed about it (the math isnt working) and I have a headache so Im just going to bed. Nite all!
