Prayers to all the DIS'ers in the path of this storm. I'm off work tomorrow and will be thinking of all of you and hoping for your safety. PLEASE BE SAFE!
Donna, do you have a boat, or have you located the nearest neighbor with one? Have they told you guys what will happen or what to do in case of a levee break? That is always my big fear. And why would anyone want to hang around there, even if the worst to happen is that you're out of electricity and fresh water for several days? That's enough to get my butt in a hotel out of the storm's path.
No boat. Looking around my neighborhood, very little of the area has evacuated. They are saying in the city within the levees should be safe. I am calmer, maybe I am getting sleepy. I am going to bed in a little while.
The eye wall has collapsed, which they think might mean it will weaken slightly. Maybe all of your prayers have helped. Thank you all. Hope to see you tomorrow.
Just got off the phone with my parents. They're only expecting 30-50 mph winds there in H-burg MS since the storm is so compact. THat's good news. My dad still has to go to work in the morning in Gulfport, for some reason. My cousin just called them. He was coming off the bridge from NO into Slidell going 2-4 mph in the traffic. He's going to have a long night, since the drive usually takes 2 hours. the freak should have gotten out earlier.
DopeyRN - I am chatting with my sis who also lives in Kenner as I am writing this. Most of her neighborhood hasn't evac. as well. They are okay, so far, but they are staying up all night just to be awake for anything. Keep in touch - I know exactly what you are going through.
BTW: Where are you in reference to a street called Woodlawn Place?

Thanks everyone... We're prepared here. Just got back from the store. There wasn't much left to get though. Most everything has been bought already. (I should have placed stock in "D" Batteries!!!)
I dont think there are any "D"'s left in the city.
Filling up the bathtub with water now.
Take care everyone and please check in as soon as you can!
Just read the 12 AM update and it looks like Lili is picking up speed and will be making landfall even sooner than originally expected. Good luck. This is certainly a scary storm. We're feeling very lucky this evening to have dodged it, but I can't help being nervous for our neighbors to the east. Sending my best to everyone in its path!!!
I pray all will be OK. My brother-in-law was to fly home from New Orleans tomorrow at 3:00pm. I wonder if the airport will be operational. Take care and let us all know when you are out of harms way.
To DopeyRN--Thanks for the up date on the airport. I know I'd be scared as the dickens. Be careful--think smart--stay safe
Now my friend in NEW IBERIA just emailed and says they're staying home with their 2 babies, 2 dogs, and 10 cats (last count)!! As her DH said in the email, "As it stands right now, we're gonna take it straight up the ***." That's not in the city, but the news just showed some guy (coastal engineer or something) saying that if a cat 4-5 storm hit the city directly (which isn't expected here), 50-100 thousand people would die! Now, I've been hearing them say that all my life on the NOLA news, so I just don't understand why the people I grew up with aren't leaving!!
This is so frustrating. I'm glad I'm not there, though I know a lot of animals are going to need rescuing afterwards.
Oh now they're saying it's going to hit at Morgan City. That's where Andrew hit, no?
Haven't heard from my sister in Kenner yet, it just got downgraded to Cat 2. Whew. Though I know they're still not in the clear. I'm waiting to hear from her. Anyone know what's going on this morning?

Very grateful that Lili is now a catagory 2 Hurricane and has weakened to 100 mph. It is coming just west of Lafayette and we should feel the wind for several hours, when we feel we will probably lose electricity.
DocRafiki.....fyi, yesterday there was a mandatory evacuation of all of Iberia Parish, where New Iberia is located.
I slept like a baby last night. All is well in New Orleans. There are some areas of the city that are getting "training" thunderstorms...a line of heavy storms that stays in place and really dumps some rain. I am sure those areas are getting flooding. There are lots of power outages also, but again I am lucky. This is a blessing, not going to be anything like what it could have been. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes...it worked!!!
MrsAPalm...I am guessing Woodlawn Place is further out from New Orleans than me, maybe 4 miles or so. You wouldn't have a nephew named Danny would you?
DopeyRN - No, not a Danny. I do have a nephew named Zach and a brother-in-law named Chip. Still haven't heard from sis yet... wondering what's going on over there. Thanks for checking in!
