Lights Motors Action

Big announcement. I think was assumed but it was a matter of timing. I am surprised it is this early, I think it changes the thought process out there for what is going where.

Personally I say rip off the bandaid, close everything down you are going to close, roll in the wrecking balls and get this thing done.

I pretty well knew this was coming, but that doesn't mean I like it. DS12 has reached that age where cars are awesome, and fast cars more so. This past summer when we tried to see LMA, it rained out. He will be more than a little bummed that LMA will be gone before our next visit in August, and to be honest, I'm not sure if we will even bother with DHS this coming trip. The only things we really do in the park are TSM, Star Tours, LMA, Fantasmic and Muppet Vision. DS may do RnRC, but with LMA closed, and there being at least some rumors about Muppet Vision closing during the construction, there isn't a lot left to do in the park considering the price of admission. Our time and money may well be better spent at MK, or Epcot instead.

I wonder what exactly "and nearby locations around Streets of America" means. Muppets, HISTKMSA? There is really not a whole lot back in that area once LMA closes.

Dang...have always meant to see it so now will have to really make a point before it's too late

Well it's definitely a half-day park now! Seems to me they could've ramped up the 3rd TSMM line pretty quickly which would've helped (and garnered some more re-rides) and maybe add another ride to the other side of the park first before the grand shutdown.

It "feels" to me like they're going to do Toy Story land first and Star Wars land 2nd.

The question now is what happens to Muppetvision - With streets of America shutdown and Pizza Planet it's an island that's practically inaccessible (and probably won't get much random foot traffic out that way either - You've got Star Tours nearby but you have make a sharp left and with all the construction scrims likely up around that area it's not going to be inviting...)

It was definitely expected and just a matter of time. I'm glad they gave plenty of notice for the closure. It's not an attraction we went to often. Definitely not a deal breaker and DHS will still be our park of choice. Hopefully, fireworks will continue.

TSMM was supposed to open sooner than later so maybe this is a sign of approximately when the new track will open by. :magnify:

No surprise. Once the Backlot tour closed and they announced the new lands .. it should be no surprise that the entire back part of the park (that used to be devoted to the "Making of Movies") .. was going to be gutted.
I just wonder what will become of the other things in the middle of the park? The Sci-Fi diner, the ABC Commisary, Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground.

I mean . .the last time we were at DHS .. if it wasn't for the playground we never would have ventured past Muppets or Pixar Place. That backlot area used to be one of my favorite parts of the park, but it needed to go a long time ago once they abandoned the whole "Movie studio" theme at the park.

It's a shame, we were going to hit LMA on my last trip in August, but my son was napping and it downpoured during the late afternoon show and couldn't make it.

It appears that DHS will be a 3-4 themed area park now (with that new name that we aren't sure of yet)
1) Old Hollywood (the two main streets and the chinese theatre and restaurants)
2) Star Wars (on the "left" side of the park)
3) Toy Story (on the "right" side of the park)
4) and maybe Muppets (in the back side of the park)

I expect the two restaurants to stay as is, certainly easy to make that the end of the road for "Hollywood" before you emerge into ..... Star Wars Land?.....

Honey I Shrunk the Kids is an easy conversion to Pixar Bug's Life so it depends on how they will lay out Toy Story Land. Will they incorporate that end of Pixar Place, Studio Grill, Watto Gratto and the big open area by Backlot ... they can easily wrap the pixar stuff around that area to behind and keep the playground. Would make sense, particularly if any long range plan involves the back side of GMR being an entrance to something and the theater front being just a front. GMR only got a few year reprieve. It could be on chopping block after that.

construction permits have been filed for that entire area already (behind LMA what used to be Backlot Tour) and they are valid until October 31st 2018, walls are up in the area that used to be the meet and greet for Phineas, Ferb, Lighntning McQueen and it also includes the Premiere Theater

I don't see them chopping the Great Movie Ride as it fits perfectly into the "Hollywoodland" theme. It's a fun dark ride, but they may need to do some updates to it to add some more recent movies to it.

As for Honey I Shrunk the Kids .. that just seems to be in an odd place for it to be converted and be part of Toy Story Land .. from what we've seen . it looks like Toy Story Land will be on the OTHER side of TSMM (where all the old unused studio buildings and warehouses are).

My guess it will just be gutted along with the Streets . if they had wanted to retheme it to Bug's Life they could have done that any time in the past 15 years.
My guess is it will at least be closed for a LONG time. .since it seems to be in the middle of a giant construction zone.

Hmmm. As much as it is pretty dated, it was quite cool. I have however seen it enough now. My concern is that they are shutting down another 'large crowd' eating attraction. That area seats a lot of guests.

HS was pretty much 1/3 or more under construction when we went in October 2015. I still enjoyed it a lot, but we rushed round it. I hope they don't shut the Muppets as well; I quite like it! They DEFINITELY need that third Toy Story track...we didn't get to ride due to 90min+ waits!

I still love the Great Movie Ride, and we haven't seen Fantasmic yet, and plenty of other good things to see and do...so I'll enjoy going back in Sept/Oct 2016, but I hope they have a new addition of some sort.

I hope they are closing Streets of America and LMA to expand the Muppets area..... I think i'll be disappointed that is not in the plans (but I can wish).

Hmmm... I wonder if that means Mama Melrose's is on the chopping block too...

Looks like it's closing for good on April 2nd...was this known already?

There were reports that performers and crew were given their termination notices.

In the image I have attached you will see a gold rectangle. This is the practice area for the stunt drivers. It also gets multipurposed as a cast parking lot. The area is in a spot where construction permits are filed for the Toy Story Expansion. I'm not terribly surprised at the timing of it, though closing it before all of the Spring breakers are done does seem odd.

Well, it wasn't my favorite show in the world, but the hits keep coming at DHS. I knwo it's necessary and by the end of it all it's going to be a much better park, but, man, talk about growing pains! We'll get through it though. We'll get through it.
