I like to take trips Monday-Friday the week after labor day, which this year is Sept 12-16. Usually very light crowds due to school having just started back up. However food and wine keep creeping up and I can't find the room type i want at the resort i want because food and wine starts on the 14th. So I looked and the room i want is there for Sept 6-10 (labor day is Monday the 5th). Crowd calendar is low these days, some 1s and 2s. Am I generally going to miss the summer vacation crowds? My thought is schools are probably going to be starting on the 6th after labor day, but schools aren't closed labor day week and starting on the 12th are they? Been a while since i was in grade school so I don't remember lol

Also wanted to see MK before the halloween decoration but they start on Sept 2!!!!!! really? Halloween parties before labor day? Oh well, it is what it is lol.

Thanks.

another question since i already started the thread........... i reserved a room for the 12th through 16th (i was using a bounceback code and didn't want to lose it) and the CM offered me Mickey's Magical Express. I said no thank you, I usually reserve a Mears towncar. Then she told me that Disney could reserve a towncar for me? Is that new? I've never heard that before. Is it a Mears towncar or how does that work?

Okay... third question.... is there any way to modify a resort reservation through MDE, or do you have to call to change dates?

Both weeks are good and very low crowds. In general, crowds diminish right after labor day since many schools in the northeast, mid west and Canada start right after LD, so they will clear out by Monday. Also, lots of locals go LD weekend, but they will also clear out on LD. You really can't go wrong with any week in Sept IMO.

In the past they have not used Mears for towncars, but they have offered towncars as a package option for many many years. Not sure who they use now since ME is what I've taken since it started. Just get a towncar price from Disney and compare it to what you can find to see if it works for you or not.

We've been coming to the World around Labor Day for several years now. A slight blip in the holiday weekend crowds, but it's the lowest compared to other holiday weekends. After Labor Day really low crowds, but parks have shorter hours after the holiday too.

Just as a note Night of Joy event is Sept 9-10. It is held at the ESPN venue this year so I doubt you will notice any park attendance affected significantly. However this is the first year it is not being held at a park. I think one of the motives is to be able to sell more tickets. Have only been one time...last year so no expert on how it affects crowds.

Schools in SC go back in mid August, I think other southern states are similar

This past Septmeber I was there during that time. While it was low crowds it wasn't as low as when I was just there in Feb. I was told it has because of a Jewish holiday. You might want to check the Jewish calendar because it effects the parks too bc schools are out on the east coast.

It will be low but still might have some crowds. If anything that weekend and Monday might be busier but Tuesday will slow down.

Line for the boat launch that week in 2015.
We were there 9/6-9/15
However-- this was on Labor Day. We did a resort/non park activities on that day.

The rest of our stay was a lot more crowded than what I expected, but still manageable.

I met several people while I was there who were as shocked at the crowds as I was. Like I said, wasn't unmanageable, but was not the 3/10 that I had seen predicted on crowd calenders

Yes. It was manageable. A good touring plan makes all the difference which I had but I was suprises at the number of people. I went that week based on what others said and crowd calendars. I went the following moon for a day in October and it was much less crowded and the heat was not as bad. Lol

I've been a few times in feb and I think it's my favorite time. (Just stay away from presidents week!)

We will be there 12/3-12/7 this year..after a 7 night fantasy cruise. I chose a post cruise stay over a pre cruise solely based on crowd calenders for thanksgiving week. But when I booked a month ago there wasn't many rooms available at CR.. Had to extend my trip by 1 night in order to get a tpv.. Something about a "length of stay requirement" for that week.
Now CR and Poly are showing almost every room unavailable. I'm hoping that I made the right decision!!

It will likely be awful. As someone mentioned, Disney will staff like you think, so they will staff and offer rides at highly reduced capacity (to get their magic level "7" day). If crowds exceed those expectations, Disney won't be able to adapt last minute (see the post Spring break weeks of 2016).

Someone cracked the code and said to go when expectations of crowds are high and hope they don't materialize, and then you will get the best experience. Sounds counter-intuitive, but likely dead on. So, I would go in the summer and try to nail the time everyone doesn't want to be there b/c they think everyone else is.

Crowds never have deterred us over Labor Day weekend. We stay at POR so the boat wait is not an issue.
