I had posted that my mom died on Sept 4th.
And as if that isn't suckie enough for one month.
Last night I got home from work at 2am to find a message on my phone that my cat Simba had been hit by a car at 10pm. It was the man who hit him calling.
He said that Simba was under a car in front of a certian address and that he was still breathing.
Keep in mind that this is 4 HOURS later when I get the message and the temp. was 58 degrees which is cold for us here this time of year.
I grab a towel and run downstaire in my socks and jump in the truck, thinking I'm going to retrieve my dead cat. I find him just where the guy said he was.
I pulled him by his tail to get him out and I was in TOTAL shock when I noticed he was breathing.
I said oh my god Simba your still alive, he immedietly started talking to me. I wrapped him in the blanket and drove him down the street to the pet emergency clinic.
They said it didn't look good becasue he was in severe shock and his temp was so low it didn't register on the thermometer. They warmed him up and tried to stablize him and gave him morphine , fluids and steriods.
I got to see him before I went home, it didn't look good. I told them to do what was in his best intrest.
I got a call at 6am that he was doing much better and they finally x-rayed him and that he had a broken back but it may be able to be fixed surgically.
I had to pick him up and take him to the regular vet, who said he thought there was damage to the spinal cord, which he confirmed with the surgeon. They gave him really no chance to recover even with the surgery. So I had to hold my baby while they put him to sleep.
I was so mad when I got home I called the idiot that hit him and asked him if he realized that he left my cat suffering in the street for over 4 hours.
He said he didn't know the cat was alive. I said YOU SAID ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE THAT THE CAT WAS STILL BREATHING.
I told him don't you realize you have a legal and moral obligation to report the accident to the police, animal control or take the cat to the hospital. It was obvious it was someones pet.
He said he didn't know what to do. I said so leaving an animal dying in the street was what you choose. I did thank him for at least calling me to tell me where the cat was but that he sould have really done something more.
He started to say that that cat shouldn't have been out, to which I told him I know that cat shouldn't have been out but cat's sometimes get out.
I told him the vet said I should think about reporting to the police for hit and run and animal cruelity.
At least Simba knew his mommy came to pick him up out of the cold street, warmed him up and got him out of pain. That is the only thing saving me from totally loosing it ,is that he knew it was me who picked him up and he was glad/relieved/comeforted to see/hear me.
He talked to me all the way to the hospital.
Thanks for listening, I'm so pissed, upset and I feel bad that the cat got out, he went out thru the doggie door.
I know it is my fault that he got hit, but he shouldn't have had to lay in the street freezing and in pain for 4 hours.
The vet also said for the cuts and scraped he had that the guy driving had to be going VERY fast.
