Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

The phrase "Innocence is bliss" comes to mind.

I was just talking to a co-worker today who mentioned they were heading to Disney this spring. They didn't really want me to tell them anything about it because they just wanted to be surprised. So I bit my tongue and wished them well. I hope they have as good of an introduction that you did.

We did it too... Zach rode ToT at 4. Oops! He wanted no part of it last year at 5 1/2... and I suspect it will be the same this year at 6 1/2. :sad2:

Your evening sounds amazing. Truly magical!

It's too bad none of us can go back & experience Disney like that - without knowing what to expect. It's seems so much more magical that way.

Oh, I loved this update, Cynthia!!! What a way to experience a trip to Disney -- it sounds absolutely liberating to just do whatever as the whim strikes! Not to mention how absolutely perfect it all is to know that you stumbled upon the Food and Wine Festival AND Illuminations!!! I hope all this wonderful luck continued for the rest of the trip! :goodvibes

It really was liberating. We were just happy to be there and going with the flow and thankfully the flow...flowed!

Great, great updates Cynthia! I love hearing about past trips.

This sounds exactly like my family. And Scott's family is very quiet, so it was definitely like walking into a foreign country for him, as well!

I left a comment on your shutterfly page. The sample pages are really pretty! Will you be adding more? Definitely send me a link when you get them on Etsy. Or pm me. I don't really have any good suggestions for you, but trying to think of what I look for when I choose scrapbook papers, a few things occurred to me. I tend to choose patterns and colors that will not look too busy, and compete for attention with my photos. So, I lean towards analogous color schemes rather than something with a lot of contrast. I probably pick papers with small scale patterns more often than those with large bold patterens, again for the same reason. Not sure if that is helpful.

I saw your mention on Liesa's tr about a job interview - did you go yet? It sounded intriguing.... Of course, you've got to stick with your business idea too, now that you've told us all about it!

Hi! that is helpful. It's funny as I mostly use papers for card making, not scrapbooking so look at them very differently as a result. I'm trying to do a mix but to your point, some it may not work well for more traditional scrapbooking! I did get one set up on Etsy today....will keep plugging along.

I do find Etsy more than a little frustrating in many ways...there is just so MUCH and it's not super intuitive from a search standpoint so...we will see.

I think I have an interview, I received a request, responded with times but have not heard back so we will see.

What a great update!
Isn't it wonderful to not have a plan sometimes? Your update makes me miss the days when ADRs and dining plans weren't an issue.

I wish US would have the same fastpass system as Disney. That way, you wouldn't have to stay onsite. But I guess their fastpass system is the equivalent to EMH.

Yup, two trips a month a part :scared1: My friend, Denise, and I are spending 5 days in Disney between our birthdays. She's never stayed onsite and has never been to Epcot, AK, or DHS. I'm excited about playing tour guide. And excited about doing Disney adult-style.

Oh ADR's were definitely an issue in 2004. Of course we had no idea you could make reservations ahead of time so ended up flummoxed that we could never get in anywhere but thankfully, between the fact that we had a house to cook at and the blessing of the Food and Wine festival, it worked out fine.

I did make a big stink with Jeff last year about having ADR's for our trip but we both remembered how we couldn't get in anywhere in '04 and didn't want a repeat. Thankfully it worked out perfectly last year, his concern was feeling tied to an agenda (which obviously did NOT have in '04 lol) but that was about the extent of the tour planning so it still allowed for whims. Unfortunately due to the crowds, the whim tour plan didn't work nearly as well in '08 as it had in '04 so we will be shooting for a compromise of sorts this summer.

I really want to do an adult trip. We have talked about a sibling and spouse Food and Wine trip in '11. Since we all discovered it by accident together, we've all been dying to get back to it!

I can absolutely see that for a first trip. The funny thing is that it was NOT my first trip, it was actually my 3rd but I'd really only spent time at the MK on the other trips so in most ways, it was very very new. I think it's more about being open to the experience than what number trip it was, we were just in the right frame of mind!

Oh he may recover! As traumatized as Eric seemed at the time, and as hesitant as he was to go on other things for the rest of the trip (he did, begrudgingly) he has turned into a full fledged thrill junkie, the only one of the 4 kids who WANTED to, who BEGGED to, go on ToT last Feb. I'll never forget that ride since I was the only one who would go on it with him!

If anyone wants to be amused, here is a snippet from my TR on it Faster Faster Higher Higher!

Great update Cynthia!

Even though it may have been kind of haphazard, you were able to capture some magical moments and make great memories. (But I'm still not giving up "planning"!)

Actually read your update right before I went to bed. It was lovely as usual! Love that you all got a second wind and were having a ball! After all it had taken to get there, you were truly blessed with some wonderful surprises.

I think you're right, the F&W was a Godsend! Can I share a secret? I am seriously, seriously thinking about changing our dates for later so we can hit up F&W. It won't coincide with Labor Day or Andrew going to school, but it would give me an extra month or so to get over jet lag, settle in, and all that.

DHS is still a park that has lots of room to grow on me. At this point I'm rather ambivalent. maybe I just need some more time to seek out the hidden treasures that lie within.

Anyway, so loving the way this trip is going "from sour beginnings to amazing surprises!" Hey that sounds like a TR Title.

Oh a sibling and spouse trip to F&W sounds great. F&W is the perfect time for an adults only trip. My friend, Denise, loves wine and would LOVE F&W. She's going to Napa in two weeks with her DH. Denise and I both teach at the same school so F&W is impossible for us. Our principal would get suspicious if we were both out for the same few days. So we decided to do our our little F&W trip. We're definitely going to drink around the WS.

When is your ADR date? It must be coming up soon. Are you going to try out the online system?

I'm not giving up planning either! Believe me, there were plenty of things that might have been better with planning but it was one of those trips where just showing up and going with the flow, really worked.

Hmmn....what dates are you thinking?

I really like DHS though it took me the better part of last year to start calling it that!

Drinking around the WS with a girlfriend sounds pretty fab to me!

Yes, my ADR date is in 2 weeks! I do plan to try the online system. Still waiting on park hours though. It only shows through the 9th right now

Loved your last two updates!!! :goodvibes It takes me awhile to make it over here but I always want to make sure I have plenty of time to read your updates...because I enjoy them so much!!! (plus it always helps when the boys are in bed and the house is nice and quiet.;))

I'm so happy to read about some glad!!!:goodvibes But..wow! What an arrival day!!---and no plan!!:scared1: Ahhh...sometimes it all just works out the way it's supposed to....

Your evening at Epcot sounds like it was truly magical!!

Maybe I'll just throw the itinerary out the window for this trip....;)

I think that's the magic of Disney...it's fun no matter what your style is (most of the time).

But having a plan is certainly wise, in case your free-style thang isn't working. ;)

ANd yours is a good one. By the way, will you (for me- as a special favor cuz I'm lazy) post your final itinerary once more for easy reference for those of us who want to follow your path so to speak? I can only hope it stays on the last page (not likely), but I think a fair amount of us will want to know where you might be when we log in.

No plan. Isn't that just mind boggling? It's funny, when Jeff and I go on our "date" trips we actually make a plan NOT to have a plan to force ourselves to relax and just go with the flow. Sometimes it works out magically and others...not so much. The trick is having ideas of what to do, even if you don't know when to do them (if that makes sense) otherwise you can end up sitting around going "I don't know, what do you want to do"? We had a day like that on the Feb trip last year. Paralysis by indecision.

Our April trip will be a fair amount of "no plan" which will be good I think. It's just a lot easier to do that kind of trip with 2 or 4...not the whole clan!

It really was a magical evening and for both of us changed our perception/opened our eyes to the advantage of staying on property!

Maybe I'll just throw the itinerary out the window for this trip....;)

I think Disney itself is ALWAYS fun. It's just we are not always "feeling" the fun...sidetracked by drama or whatever. Trick is letting go of those things so you can be open to the magic. Sometimes it works, sometimes not but hopefully more often than not!

You've built in a lot of flex and down time, I think you'll be fine!

But having a plan is certainly wise, in case your free-style thang isn't working. ;)

Yep, a back up plan to go-with-the-flow is always recommended or you can sit around staring at walls not knowing where to go or what to do.

I second the request!

For me, the minute I stop looking, things have a funny way of finding me.

I guess that’s what it’s all about.

Giving it up.

It has been an interesting week for me to say the least. I’ve been busy as a beaver working on my website, creating papers, business plans and doing some freelance work and getting caught up on PTA Board stuff. Scared but having a blast. I also finally got my Big Give pixie dust sent off to Piper (for those of you following Pipers report). Here is the design I made

A pictures of the shirts (I made one for Piper, Amanda and Bonnie, her gram) some shorts for Piper, a hidden mickey pin and a couple of custom workbook pages.

She loves penguins and they are visiting them at Sea World. The Disboutiquers, far more talented than I, had a handle on the Disney aspect of the Give so I decided to do something Penguiny

I may, or may not, have mentioned that a couple of weeks ago during my weekly job hunt, I’d sent out some resume’s for a few more “out of the box” kind of positions. Clearly the jobs I was targeting weren’t connecting for whatever reason and they weren’t really all that interesting anyways! So I found about 3 rather unique and different positions that in many ways I was qualified for (in other ways, not at all) and sent them out. Zero hopes of response, I’ve been batting zero response on Craig’s list but….what the heck.

One job in particular caught my eye as being rather fascinating. Sunday night I received an email with request for an interview. Sure, why not? I’d done some initial surface research before submitting the resume and it had occurred to me that it was the same industry a good friends husband works in but after the interview was scheduled, and I started doing my interview prep, it turns out it IS his company. As an owner he had absolutely no idea I’d applied or was asked for an interview. The more digging I did, the more intrigued I became. I decided to wait to mention it to him until after the interview.

The interview went exceptionally well. It is a very very cool, fascinating job, with a really solid stable company with good people. It went so well they asked me for a second interview right then. That won’t happen for a couple of weeks as my friend (and her husband) are on vacation next week. I already knew that as she and I traded Gourmet Club nights lol! So of course I reached out for her husband, just to give him a heads up so he heard about it from me first. I don’t see it as a conflict, my friendship is really with her (and their daughter is our main babysitter) but we will see how he feels about it. The person I would be reporting to didn’t seem to think it was a conflict at all, in fact thought it was a fabulous thing. After communicating with both of them today we have an all clear to continue conversations.

From my perspective it gives me an incredible feeling about the company. While my friendship is with her, he’s a really good guy who lives a very balanced life and it’s a rock solid steadily growing (no crazy goals or numbers) company in a very stable fairly recession proof industry with very loyal long term employees.

So here’s the deal. I really want this job. Financially, I need this job but more importantly, I WANT it. I really really want it. It’s the kind of thing I could sink my teeth into and really grow and have that whole 2nd phase of my career that I’ve been looking for that retained the passion for what I was doing. It is seriously fascinating stuff. Which I don’t know squat about but apparently my other skills and experience overrides that…or at least enough to get me a 2nd interview. It is critical to me that I got the interview, and request for second, on my own, it had nothing to do with my connection to one of the owners.

AND it’s only 10 minutes from my house. Which might mean I could avoid some childcare expenses entirely.

Does that mean I won’t be doing the papers? Absolutely not! But I can do it on my terms, focusing just on the custom aspect versus the bulk sales which I would need to really make much money. If this pans out, I can just do it for FUN! Love that. LOVE that!

From a morale standpoint, the timing couldn’t be better. I looked at our taxes this week. BAD idea. It is a disaster to say the least. We owe. We owe big. If this job pans out, not only will be we be able to cover it, we won’t have to change any of our vacation plans, or at least the April and August ones. I might have to postpone the cruise depending on what type of vacation day and personal day package it is. My guess is I won’t have enough vacation to keep the cruise but we will see, all depends on how they measure and count it and of course….if I get the job! If I don’t get the job then…we either have to look at cancelling the April trip (not an option in my book) or tweaking the Florida one. With 10 deluxe days planned, I’m inclined to tweak FL.

If we have to. I don’t think we will.

This is assuming a LOT of course. It assumes I am offered the job. I got the distinct impression yesterday that if the guy could have offered me the job then and there…he would have. It went THAT well. They had 200 applicants, brought in a dozen and will narrow it down to 2 or 3 for the 2nd interviews and I’ve already been asked for a second. He gave me a complete tour of the facility clearly trying to sell ME, the interview went a good half hour longer than we were scheduled for, it went THAT well. However, it was only Wednesday and they are interviewing through tomorrow so certainly someone could come in and blow me out of the water.

I will say that, given the personal relationship, I don't think they would allow it to move forward if they weren't very serious but that could be a female take on it, not a guy take!

I don’t want to get ahead of myself but…..
