This site has an interesting list (see "h" for Helles), though what is most interesting to me about it is it is really short on most of the better microbreweries and isn't really a NW list so kind of mislabeled but shows what you can get in the grocery store lol!

http://www.nwmicrobrews.com/

Kind of an interesting note on the Thomas Kemper. It was one of the first major micobreweries out here. You can't really find it anywhere anymore (except for their rootbeer which has GREAT distribution). I used to drink quite a bit of both the Helles and the Blueberry in the early 90's. A fun memory seeing it on this site. Haven't had it, or seen it, in years though.

This is a MUCH better list and has many of our favorites on it
http://www.washingtonbeer.com/beerwabf.htm

I am fairly sure I've tried the Maritime Helles, though as you can see the Helles is not a popular option with the brewerers. Dunkles is apparently Dopple Bock. Not my fav.

Interesting lists, quite a few Hefeweizen (that's what the Franziskaner Weiße is) and I think Helles is what on the second list is called "German style pale lager"... Dunkles can be any lager that isn't pale - a Doppelbock is one type, but what you call Amber would fall into that category, too.

I was quite impressed on the second list to even find Kolsch (the beer from Cologne) and Berliner Weiße (from Dogfish)! You have impressive microbreweries in the US! :thumbsup2

I've had Kolsch but not the Berliner from Dogfish, though I've had some of the other Dogfish brews.

As you can see by the list it REALLY depends on where you live, the WA list is huge and distribution is quite good. We are very very spoiled here and will fill up "growlers" at the microbreweries when we can. Probably the ones we hit the most often are Snoqualmie, Diamond Knot and then Silver City. The first two you can find at certain grocers, the last not at all. We are also big fans of Rouge, Ninkasi and Mac and Jacks. Some of the ones listed are really more known as brewpubs than beers you'd find in the store or strict breweries and we do frequent those for dinner. In fact, The Ram is one of the kids favorite places to eat!

It does make traveling hard though as once we get away from WA, OR and CA, the pickings can be rather slim. Denver is ok. Some of the ones from other states (IL- Goose Island, HI- Kona) have what we'd consider much more mainstream offerings.

There are a couple of FL microbrews that I know of (Keys Key West Sunset Ale -Flying Dog Pale Ale -Hurricane Reef Pale Ale ) but I haven't had luck getting it through Garden Grocer though I put the request in again. I've had the Key West Sunset, it's not bad. We will likely end up with the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale through GG, which is perfectly acceptable though not truly a microbrew. I am looking forward to seeing what WL has on tap, last year they had Red Hook ESB (which is as common as Bud Light on tap around here lol) and the Widmer Hefewiezen and I can't recall what else but it was a nice line up.

I've never found an IPA in all of the World...which makes us sad.

I need to check out that airways brewing though, I didn't realize there was an airplane themed IPA out there and Jeff would love to try that! :rotfl:

and drinks too!

Ok now I don't want to make this anymore confusing, BUT why can't you switch Jeff and Sandie on the room ressies....on "paper" put Sandie in your room and Jeff in their room? Is it a ticket issue? Cause you can have those pulled off the room key (as you already know). I'm really concerned that they are flying stand-by. :scared1:

Oooo... very interesting idea... don't you have some on DDP and some not? Could they just switch key cards and Jeff would get his DDP credits back with it?? Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this one... popcorn::

Love the drink map!!! :worship: I will be printing that off and laminating it! :thumbsup2

Hurray for being in Disney in one week!!! That is fabulous!!!

Well there are a number of issues lol! Not the least of which that they are package reservations and all paid for and Disney would charge us to make changes at this point. They tried to charge me a $15 processing fee for upgrading the tickets last week and another one for adding the DDP and it was a major battle to get that off.

Changing names, I believe, after the 45 day mark, is considered a $50 fee

But basically, yes, it's a ticket issue.

We have 9 day hoppers + water park and more that start on the 11th

They have 5 day hoppers that start on the 14th. Even if we had the room in Jeff's name and pulled the ticket off and gave to Paul I'd be terrified that they'd enforce the non-transferable clause of the ticket since it would be in Jeff's name. That would be a disaster of epic proportions. Not to mention Paul would then have to deal with a ticket separate from his room key and dining plan which, while I realize isn't a big deal, might well be to him and more than I want to try to explain.

And, practically speaking, if we don't have connecting rooms it means having them change who is in what room on the keys, redoing keys and all that which would be a pita as well.

Financially, even though it wouldn't have cost more, it was far cleaner for them to have their own ressie and all their costs completely separate from ours.

They ALWAYS fly standby. They have a deal, long story, that lets them fly for free if they go standby. So it's worth it for them and they have a contact that can check to see how full the flights are and they plan accordingly. It often works out, occasionally not. For the one day of possible no SAB time, we will just have to deal with it. I'd need to check but I think there are a good 4-5 flights that day within about a 4 hour time span so they will get there, it's just a matter of when and the feeling seems to be that generally, early AM on a Sat is not a packed flight so they are going for the earliest possible out.

I'm hoping a super nice CM just adds Evan on my say so lol! I mean the reservations are booked as linked and connecting requested so...it's possible, right?

My theoretical scenario to the BC CM was that both Sandie and I do the online check in and I bring a copy of hers with me and then maybe in that case, they'd let me add him. But since that requires going to the regular line and redoing room keys, among other things, she strongly suggested we not go that route. And that they couldn't add him until after she checked in.

Live.

We will be able to use the quiet pool and we do have WP & More so it may be the perfect reason to check out BB.

I'm just going to have to be flexible and roll with it, and am REALLY glad I found out ahead of time!

It really makes no sense to me though. At WL we have 2 rooms but it's one ressie, with the PIN code, one deposit. For some reason at YC they couldn't/wouldn't book it like that and it's two rooms, two deposits, etc. If it had been able to be just one, that would have worked but now that our dates aren't the same and our tickets are totally different, it works out better/cleaner.

Other than the SAB issue for Day 1 at the YC.

aren't you glad you asked?

:rotfl:

At the YC, everyone is on the DDP except for Evan and the idea of mixing up our credits with theirs, at this point, gives me a little bit of heartburn!

I can't see a CM agreeing to switch names on a package booking key card like that, even if the bookings were equal, which they aren't.

Although we do we plan on using the CS credits they won't use on day 1, for Evan and if they end up missing dinner that night...same thing. :rotfl:

It is!!!!!!!!!!! Right now, at this time we will hopefully be slumbering away at the WL!

6 more sleeps!

I don't count the red eye as a sleep, I'm officially on vacation at that point.

Oh, and btw "Lager" means storage, so a lager beer was a beer that was able to be stored. They used caves/cellars for that and tended to plant chestnut trees on top to provide shade in summer to keep the cellars cooler. Soon they started to sell the beer directly from the cellars and people would sit under the chestnut trees and enjoy their beer: this is how the beergardens came into existence. And because the other inns complained that they would lose customers, the beer gardens were not allowed to sell food. This is why even today in any "real" beergarden in Bavaria, you can bring your own picknick to eat while you get your liter of beer. :goodvibes

Absolutely fascinating!! THANKS, Magdalene!!

Hi Cynthia! I can't keep up with you and Liesa and your daily updates!

But we're having so much fun!!!

ETA: I need to go back further I guess to catch the conv. on online vs. not online check in. You prefer which?? I had heard that your chances of being spontaneously upgraded are better if you DON'T ONLINE check-in. True??

Magdalene is an amazing font of info! Fun stuff.

In my case it's not about the spontaneous upgrade though I do believe that's true. We have other high maintenance requests....like making sure there are enough beds to include people not yet listed on a reservation.

:rotfl:

But I do believe you are correct on the upgrade though who really knows. I really wish I hadn't checked in for WL at this point but am just going to go get in the regular line anyways after I get my keys, before I head up, and ask my questions anyway. We will be there so early, it's not like if there is a line for the regular check in, I can go eat breakfast and then go get in the line if it's busy with checkout. Or whatever.

thanks for the food pics.

last time i went to one was at a conference in Indy i was with a whole group of people from other companies, and they guy got done with his show, put all the food on plates, and said enjoy, i looked down and all i had was rice on my plate...

i was so into the show i didnt even notice that he left me out. well turns out he was being funny and one guy he put all the left over rice on his plate so it was stacked up and he had extra chicken and steak and pilled up on on another ladies plate...which everyone laughed, and so did i until we realized that extra chicken and steak was suppose to be on mine, luckily she didnt start eating yet and gave me half of hers, the cook was so sorry and very apoligetic...good thing for him we had been drinking for a few hours before that and the mood was light and we all laughed it off.

:rotfl2:

how funny is that! Thank goodness you caught it.

The best part of Teppan is the show, our guy did it totally Disney themed and it was so much fun, I think we laughed the entire time! A whole story line about Nemo (while he was cooking the shrimp) and all kinds of things. It was a ton of fun, the kids still talk about it. While the cooking is always a show at a Japanese steakhouse, to have a storyline with it is a really fun twist on it.

Plus it's just good, basic, decent food that appeals to most. :thumbsup2

Hi. I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post on your thread. Anyway, we were at Disney World at the end of May and we went to Blizzard Beach for the day. My husband and I rented a locker and decided to wait on towel rentals to see if we really needed them. Well, we seemed to go from slide to slide and lazy river to wave pool. It was so hot that we dried off quickly between slides and our daughters, ages 6 and 11, never needed the towels. We did not spend any time lounging so that might have made a difference, but we had no need for the towels so we did not rent them. We did use a large locker and we would have needed two lockers if we had even one more person with us. I hope you have lots of fun. My kids talk about that vacation at least once a day!

that would be cool to have a whole story with it...some trip we plan on eating there, candi has never eaten at one before.

I gotcha on why the room ressies are the way there are. I think that is awful that Disney wanted to charge you $15 when all you wanted to do is give them more money for tickets and DDP. Someone over there needs to look into that BS policy!

My FIL is a retired Delta employee so I understand Sandie & Paul's stand-by situtation.....

Now riddle me this bat-woman! How is it that you can add Evan to a room ressie at check-in that has a package attached to it and not have to buy that same package for Evan???? I thought if you got a package everyone in the room had to have the same package. Is this a little known secret??? I'm so confuzzled......lol

Hi and :welcome: !!!

Great input, thank you so much! I'm considering just packing 2 of our own, the small ones, which should fit in a locker with one tote bag. Even though there will be 6 of us, I agree that with the heat we should barely need them. Do you mind sharing what all you were able to fit in the locker?

that would be cool to have a whole story with it...some trip we plan on eating there, candi has never eaten at one before.

It's a ton of fun. Isn't your dad anti teppan? I seem to recall a story....

I hope Sandie and Paul are able to get on the first flight of the day to MCO.

Isn't that insane? It is NOT in the STC but for 2011 they are adding that clause in, where any changes within 14 days gets a $15 "processing fee" for printing new paperwork. Which of course was free on day 15...somehow the paper prices go up????

They tried to tell us that it's always been there (not true, I addded the DDP 4 days out last year) and then ding us on both ressies when the YC change of adding the DDP was done at 15 days! Had to get a supervisor involved to get the charge off!

Which is WAYYY too much work for thirty bucks.

Yes. Everyone in the room has to be on the same package. However, once you are there you can add people to your room, if there is enough room in the room lol. It has to be post check in. Their room is big enough and he's not an adult (which would have been an added charge for a 3rd adult) so it works out well. CRO actually suggested it and the BC CM confirmed it will not be an issue. It does make me a wee bit nervous but I've been assured it will work. Fingers crossed!
