There is Becks on the original list I found, which you can find here as either a lager or Beck Dark, which is more of an amber. I am confident they had a wheat/weiss beer at the Biergarten, not sure about out at the cart and can't recall the brand. So the Dunkles is the dark?
I did post on the dining thread, we will see if I get a response but you are thinking that the offerings are
Becks
Franziskaner Weiße
some kind of dark beer (Dunkles?)
and a Helles Lager?
Is that right?
How was your trip? Welcome back!!!!
I thought so...![]()
The strange thing is that for some reason the beers marketed in the US as German beers don't equal German beers... There isn't any Becks Dark in Germany...The thing about beer in Germany is that it is still a very local thing and every area of Germany drinks their own type. Darker beers are mainly brewed in Southern German, while the very "dry" and light coloured beers are from the North. The brand of Beck's is one from the North... I think I once read that it was brewed for the export to the US and due to the long time in the barrels it was much mellower when it arrived in the US. That's why Beck's in the US tastes different from the one sold in Germany (I think today they brew in the US - and they are owned by InBev anyway...).
Looking at Glenn's picture and from what you wrote I would say he got the following ones (from left to right):
Spaten Optimator
Beck's Dark (Dunkles)
Franziskaner Weiße (the wheat beer should have a crown of foam)
Beck's Pils
I don't think they have what we call "Helles", but it sounds like your micro brewery makes one! And it does having nothing to do with hell!I found this on Wikipedia which gives quite a good overview - I am talking about the Munich beer! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_lager#Variations
Oh, and btw "Lager" means storage, so a lager beer was a beer that was able to be stored. They used caves/cellars for that and tended to plant chestnut trees on top to provide shade in summer to keep the cellars cooler. Soon they started to sell the beer directly from the cellars and people would sit under the chestnut trees and enjoy their beer: this is how the beergardens came into existence. And because the other inns complained that they would lose customers, the beer gardens were not allowed to sell food. This is why even today in any "real" beergarden in Bavaria, you can bring your own picknick to eat while you get your liter of beer.
Any more information on the dining board?
Hi Cynthia! I can't keep up with you and Liesa and your daily updates!
The beer / drink around the world maps are fantastic - can I borrow them?
I totally agree with you about the onsite vs online check in. I much prefer it. In fact, on our last visit, I couldn't find the online check in line at Popconfused3) so I went through the other line anyway.
Oh, back to shoes for a moment: I got a couple new pairs for me for the trip today. I went to DSW to use a coupon I had and pick up a new pair of Teva Mush flips, which I did - but then I found a pair of Merrell sandals on clearance. Had to get them. They are kind of a "slide." Not sure how they'll work out, but I love my other pair of Merrells that I wear in the winter. I'm going to wear these when I sub on Tuesday - see how they do when I'm on my feet all day.
nice update, can i ask you to take some pictures of your food at tapen edu, i am excited to see what that looks like there, and if it really looks like some of the other ones i have seen.
i love the cooking tables.
Your plans are really coming together nicely! That stinks about needing all of the keys for SAB... But I can understand why they do it.
Yay for one week!!!![]()
