Letting a family member use points

I just booked a reservation for my daughter and a friend at one of the Disney collection hotels. The reservationist asked me if my daughter lived in the house with me. Are we not allowed to make reservations for others with our points? I always assumed they were mine to do with as I please. I don't ever recall reading anywhere that only family members who live in your home were the only ones who could use my points.
Just want the facts!!

I wonder if the next question was the address for your daughter? I don't think if Disney cares if we make reservations for family members, but they do need to know the name, address , and age of everybody in the room.

Usually they ask how many adults? Then any Jrs. and they do ask the age and of children. Never been asked ages of adults though.
I made ressies for my DN and her GF years ago, as her graduation gift. From what I recall I gave MS her name and her friends name but they never asked for her address.

Maybe i just took her the wrong way. I just want to know that if I wanted to let someone have a few nights as a gift I can, especially my adult children.
Thanks

I made a reservation about two weeks ago for next April.

My DW's BFF is coming down from Mass. to join us--she's DD11's Godmother.

I had added her to a reservation about 5 months ago and was not asked for her home address, etc. However, THIS TIME, I was asked. I knew her street address and city, but not her zip code. MS actually looked up her zip code while I was on hold.

I guess it's a new policy for MS to have the home addresses for ALL those on the reservation.

There is no problem with family members (or complete strangers) using your DVC accommdations.

I suspect in this case, since you stated it was for your daughter, the MS rep would just aply your address to the reservation if she lived with you. As others have mentioned, MS now usualy asks for the home address of the name on the reservation.

Everything should be fine when your daughter arrives for her stay! :)

We have made ressies for friends and they always ask for their name and address. Then when we get the confirmation, their name and address are on it as well.

One of the probable reasons they ask is so they can send out mailings to those on the list.

They recently sent a mailing from Disney Vacation Corp to my brother in law's son in law, who is on a reservation that I set up for them, but they sent it to MY address!

I got it fixed, but beware. Those on the DVC reservations may get Disney vacation mailings.

I am sure that they do not have to live in the same household. My Uncle uses his points every year to provide a free trip to Disney for a family in the local school district. They are complete strangers and he usually has never met anyone in the family before.

I had been asked for the addresses of all party members recently. When I asked why the new criteria the CM stated it was for mailing/marketting purposes but then said the real reason was because abuse of the DVC AP discount was occurring and if they have the address on file they can check it against future purchases of AP's. :confused3

And even if they are under 21 you can reserve a room for your children, although you are responsible if they trash the room. A couple of years ago DD went to Florida for Spring break with a bunch of friends, to stay in the motel room of a friend of one of the girls. It turns out they were sharing floor space in a room at a Holiday Inn with a bunch of strangers. DD took one look at the kids and the floor, and called me. I called BW front desk(it was 11 pm), to check availability, and they gave her a room, for cash--with a switch to points when they could check my point balance the next day. I put up four 18 year old girls for a week in relative cleanliness--DD said the floor at HI was filthy!!:scared1:

We had an experience about 8 years ago at OKW - we were woken up at 3 am by CMs from the front desk knocking on our door. We were a 1st floor studio and were told that we needed to evacuate for a bit, due to an overflowing tub on the 3rd floor that was leaking into the lower units. We could then hear the trickling water, so we got dressed and came out. In talking with all the neighbors and seeing the ambulance and the cause, it turned out that it was a group of kids on spring break that the grandmother had lent her points to. The kids had a huge group crammed into the unit and were drinking to excess. One kid had alcohol poisoning as he got into the tub and forgot to turn off the water. He flooded 6 units. I can only imagine what that grandmother went through, as they were all under age and the police had come.... And they had the audacity to act like that hadn't inconvenieced all of us....

We were relocated us to a new unit that same night. I vowed that if I had kids, they were going to be adults before they went on points alone.... We'll see if I soften up as the girls get older....popcorn::

I felt so bad for the grandmother - you know in your heart that she probably didn't know about the excess of other kids. We tried to figure out how much that was going to cost her by the end of it (and we hoped the injured kid's parents didn't sue her...)

I gift my mother and her friends points quite frequently- and it's not a big deal- but they DO everyones names for the room keys and for Magical Express

I have made reservations for my DD three times and once for my DS. The confirmation slip came addressed to me but with their names/addresses on it. They also used ME and the tags went directly to them. I always gave them my DVC card but there were never asked to show it.

When making ressies for another family member is there a fee we have to pay? My mother has Gatlinburg and thought one year she could make ressies for us there and vice versa- she has to pay $59 for us to use hers but I told her I didn't think we had to pay to reserve her a place w/ our points- I am not sure though- Anyone?
