Let's Talk Remodeling

I cleaned out that cabinet and desk and I am now sure I am doing the right thing. I threw 75% of it away and just put the rest of the stuff where it was SUPPOSED to go in the first place :rolleyes1

You know, thats pretty typical for us as well. I should give it a try. I bet I could toss most of the junk as well. :sad2: :sad2:

I will have to get some pics, but we are finished with the bathroom & bedroom remodel!!!!! :cool1:

Pics!! We need Pics!!!

When we re-did our master bedroom (2 years ago) I had so much fun going shopping for new bedding!! Have fun picking out some great stuff!!

I'm laughing at the guy making your bed!:lmao:

here is what came out of that cupboard and ther drawers there was nothing on my counters or floor when I started.
I was so grossed out!

Its all gone now of course and put where it belongs but I could not believe how much was in there. My counters and floor are back to being clean.

It's amazing how much crap we can collect. I have been trying to clean out our office/dog room/whatever else I can throw in there room. We got 2 new 6ft tall bookshelves for the room. That has been a big helping in having places to put things. Especially books. The room actually looks like an office again.

I bought an over the stove microwave and had to move a cabinet UP. I had posted a thread about it when I was thinking about doing it. Someone warned me about starting something ;)

I had NO intention of doing more than just putting in the new micro and the new fridge..... WELL. Had to get a new cabinet for beside the fridge and while I was at it, I got new flooring (it isn't in yet) and when I moved the cabinet above the stove UP, I had to have SOMETHING behind the stove---- so I added the metal-look tile backsplash. THEN I decided I NEEDED new counter tops... LOL.
I have the two smaller counter tops in. The large L shape counter tops MIGHT go in this weekend.

Okay, here's some pics of the bedroom. As you can see, no real decorating has been done yet, no pics on the walls, the old curtains & comforter still there. I like the color of my comforter, but it's too small. I've been looking around but so far I haven't seen anything else I like better. I'm still wondering about the white ceiling though. DH & my contractor pretty much insisted on keeping it white, I was thinking a very light cream would be better, but then the crown moulding might just blend in with the ceiling.

Sorry the perspective is a little weird, trying to show the floor, and the walls and the crown molding is tough.

I forgot to take a before pic, but here's one shot where you can see the old carpet & molding.

Yep, That's how it starts, change one thing & it just snowballs! That is looking great, love the backsplash! :thumbsup2

I had cleaned out the master bedroom closet so the new floors could go in. I was hoping for to be able to install a new closet system, but decided it was just too expensive. So I'm in a real dilemma with closet organization now. I decided to buy a large clear rolling drawer & some of those large vacuum shrinking bags. Well the bags work, but they don't lie very flat & are big, so now I'm not sure whether that will save any space or not. Anyone come up with anything cost effective for walk in closets?

Shovan,

Your bedroom is lovely - can you remember the paint color/name/brand? If you've already posted it, sorry!

Have you all looked at the website "Rate my Space" ? It's from HGTV and highly addictive!

Our kitchen is being painted Tuesday then all I need to do is have the new tile installed and it's finally done. (Good thing too - MIL is coming mid March for a month!!!!)

ColoradoMom, It IS addictive!! I have my rooms on there (except for my brand new bathroom, cause I'm waiting for my glass shower doors to be installed)

Shovan, Your room looks beautiful!! I LOVE the floors! I also love the doorway into your vanity area.
(We also have a white ceiling in the bedroom and new crown moulding.)

that is beautiful~!

Did you use those plastic tiles that look like metal or are those tin on your backsplash? I want to use the oil rubbed bronze for mine. how was it to install?

Thanks! I have a problem with picking colors. This is the 2nd time I've wanted something that's "in between" two other colors. My contractor is stuck on using Sherwin Williams & I couldn't find the color that was just right in their swatches. This one was a custom color in between Blonde #6128 and Restrained Gold #6129 in flat latex. The trim color was Ivoire #6127 he used an oil based paint, SW Promax 400 Interior Alkyd Semi-Gloss for more durability. I really like the look of that oil based paint on the trim work, but be aware that it has a very strong paint odor for a couple of days.

Shovan love the colours in your bedroom BTW :)

We have wallpaper in our and while it isnt hideous it drives me crazy. The last owners had a bunch of stuff on the wall so my stuff is strategically placed

Just popping in. Love the pictures!

Seems we are having more of the "one step forward, two steps back" going on. Grout isn't in yet. We did a small area & let it dry. I'm thinking it dried too light, but DH hasn't been around to consult with. Neighbor caulked where tile meets countertop. Said it would dry darker. ??? huh. NO! DH bought wrong color. Not even close. So that needed to be removed, by DH. ;) Molding order came it. However the measurment from the catalog about the width of the molding apparently is the width of the backside of the crown, not the front profile side. :confused3 So its actually a larger profile than we wanted. DH & I both think its too large. That needs to get returned. However, DH & neighbor are now questioning how we'll attach any molding without nailing thru the front of it & into front of cabinets since there is only 7" of space above cabinets to ceiling. No enough room for a nail gone or to swing a hammer. So molding decision is back to square one I guess.

Meantime, all my countertop junk, microwave & tv continue to sit on the dining room floor. I thought it was temporary so I didn't set up "shop".

DH returns home tonight. Maybe we can talk about some of this. Ugh. At this point, I just want my microwave hung back up even if it means no molding & not moving the cabinet up. lol

DH had this issue at our last house. He ended up opening the cabinets and predrilling holes up from the edge into the molding up top and then anchoring with screws. You definitely need another person for this if you cannot clamp the molding down onto the cabinet when you drill and secure.
