Let's Talk Remodeling

ok I will tell you my secret.... its not crown moulding, its wallpaper! I was shocked too. Even when you first walk into the room it looks like crown moulding. Thats the part of the wallpaper I actually like, its actually just a border.

Ok I am almost ready to take a picture of teh bedroom I finished the curtains yesterday, my mum hemmed them and I hung all the rods and such, I redid the art work and brought in some nicer end tables. Will let you know when I get there.

and yes I am so sore today and I am looking at a tonne more work today. Goo dthing I dont have to work tomorrow. I see a nice long soak in my jacuzzi in my future!

Ok, the kitchen continues. First pic is the "laundry area" where we are building the wall so you won't be able to see the mess anymore. Please ignore all the "junk"... LOL.

Next pic is the "wall".

wow that is going to make a huge difference nice job!

Thanks. I HATE having all the laundry stuff showing all the time! I would rather have it all in the basement but our basement is icky (OLD house, not dry). So, I have no other choice but to have it in this area of the kitchen. The people that lived here before us had a "bar" area where this wall is. Used the counter as a bar, but we have never used it that way.
I can't WAIT to get it done!!
I just ordered black roman shades for the two windows :) I can't wait til they come.

Hi All!

Shovan's friend here. We made some progress on our bathroom remodel this weekend. Our BIL (clarke-kent here on the DIS) came over to help (he did most of the work - he is really good! ;) )...we got the shower cement board up, shower floor, drain and curb done along with the tile floor. The shower is going to be "Kerdi" membraned. This is a waterproof membrane that will go on the walls, ceiling, floor and curb of the shower. We made the shower larger as well...it is now 3' x 4'...which leaves little room for a vanity. I think I will go with a pedestel...this is our 2nd bath.

Thank you all for your input on a couple questions I asked (I asked about ceiling fan info for our family room a few weeks ago).

I'm shocked that's wallpaper & not molding! Wow, it looks good! Can't wait to see the bedroom colors. ( I just returned from Bed, Bath & Beyond, still can't make a decision.)
Take it easy now & jump in the jacuzzi, you deserve it! :goodvibes

That is going to look good! My laundry is in our garage, which I like. We're in the deep south, so it only gets a little hot in the midddle of the summer.

Where did you order your shades from? I've been on a hunt for a new shades.

Hello Friend! :goodvibes That is looking so good! :thumbsup2 The tile is going to look great! Can't wait to see it finished! I still don't know what the kerdi membrane is. Remember I asked Mario & he didn't know either. But when he did the shower he did several coats of this bright pink stuff that changed to blue when it dried. He said it was to form a membrane. Y'all are going to love the bigger shower!!!

I ordered the shades for JC Penney. I had a coupon for 10 bucks off :) so that saved a little (and they were on sale if you bought 2 or more!).

I wanted Black. It was hard to find black... I'll post a pic after I get them and hang them up.

Thanks! From what I've been checking on the web, JC Penney seems to have some of the best prices!

Can't wait to see your pictures!:goodvibes

We just bought our new bedding from Penneys. I had been looking everywhere and just couldn't find something that both DH and I liked. He is the one who was looking in one of our sale flyers and saw this. It is the from Chris Madden collection. It was on closeout, I believe it might be from 2007. We both liked it so I ordered it. I don't have everything done in there so here is the pic from the catalog. The picture does not do it justice, the colors are more vibrant in person. I will have to post a pic of our bedroom once I get everything all in there.

Penneys really does have some nice stuff on sale quite alot.:thumbsup2

Looking great!

DH started framing the basement office over the weekend. He ran into some very odd snags. He noticed that the cement on the bottom of one wall needed to be leveled, so he chipped at it and it crumbled. Come to find out there was a copper pipe and some tubing behind it. DH followed it to find out where it went - one end went by the washer, but wasn't attached. The other went to the furnace but was crimped off.
So someone no longer needed a water pipe, but instead of disconnecting the pipe completely, they left it in the wall and covered it with dirt and then painted over the dirt

We went to a flooring outlet that was having a huge sale over the weekend. I bought 300 sq ft of pergo with underlayment for $685

Hixski, That is pretty! I will have to make a run over to JCP this week! I did find something I liked a lot a B,B&B, but it was seperates with the comforter costing $140 & you know how much all those little pillows would run it up!

Crankyshank, Sorry about the snag in the basement! But WOW what a great price on your pergo!! :cool1:

Thanks Shovan!! You might want to check out their website too. They have alot of stuff on sale right now.

I have a couple of small pillow forms that I keep just to make pillow covers for. I found some Waverly decorator fabric today that matches the small golden pillow in the front of the picture. It is embroidered and embossed. Very pretty. The pillows were not longer available on closeout but I REFUSE to pay $23-$35 dollars apiece for a little pillow anyway. I only needed a yard for 2 pillow covers. I will make them different so they should look like I bought them. I paid $12 for one yard 40% off. Much better than 2 pillows for $50-$70.:thumbsup2

Well that will save you a bunch! My sewing machine went on the fritz about 10 yrs ago! So you know how much sewing I do around here! I did buy one of those itty bitty little machines for hemming & mending thingsa few weeks back. So far, it hasn't come out of the box!

I surfed the web all day just a few days ago hunting for bedding, but that fried my brain & now I can't even remember if I looked at JCP! I'll go check again! Thanks!

We also bought our new bedding at JC Penny!! It was part of their Madden Collection as well.
I was looking at the bedding in Macy's the other day, they had some gorgeous stuff, but their prices floored me!

Hi everybody! I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that I still have a butt-ugly master bathroom, but we are putting in a swimming pool.

I figured if the bathroom continues to disgust me, I'll just bathe in the pool.

That sounds like a good plan! Congrats!

I have been dying to put in a pool but when we do that I want to have a new patio put in since it is just concrete now and its not level and falling apart.

Have you decided on what kind of pool?

I would love a built it but the soil here is very rocky and built ins are problems.

We definitely don't have a rock issue with our soil here, but in central Texas, I know they have to have pools specially excavated due to the rock. For us, it's just plain ol digging.

When we first planned on remodeling our bathroom, we were doing it with the intention of moving. Now we've decided to stay, so we're putting in the pool, and are going to do the bathroom in increments. The two biggest expenses will be the cabinet and the shower glass, so we're going to do the cabinet first and then move our way to the shower.

We have a small backyard, but we're putting as much pool as our easements will allow. The designer calls it a cocktail pool, which is pretty fitting, because all I'll be doing is standing in it holding a drink. The dogs will love it though. I had a pool in my last house and I couldn't keep Chloe out of it!

Here are the plans. The only thing missing, is there will be two bubblers on the sunshelf (the bubblers and the sheer descent will be lit up at night) and there will be flagstone inlays - one leading from my existing patio, to the pool steps, and another one on the new decking at the back of the house:

The back wall will look like this:

Here is my existing yard. We're literally planning the pool around that date palm. We've been told it's worth anywhere from $1k - $3k. I just planted all of that stuff last year, but family is taking it off of my hands.

We go pick tile and flagstone today. All we're waiting for is our homeowner association approval to get started. :woohoo:

It looks really nice Am I there Yet! Your yard is gorgeous now...I LOVE that palm tree!!! My SIL had a pool like you are going to get...it's great!

Thanks for sharing the pics...:)

The Palm was an albatross when I first moved in here. I almost had my realtor send his landscapers over to remove it. He wanted it. I never did it, and now am planning a pool around it.

AMITY, Now you have me jealous!!!

We have a pool in our yard, that is about 26 years old! In serious need of remodeling. Right before we started the bathroom, we had pool guys come out to give us prices of updating the pool!

 :scared1: $20,000 for the most basic updating, $30,000 to $35,000 for installing the stuff we really want, a hot tub area, some type of water/fall feature.

So that is SOO on the back-back burner for now!

I am having landscaping done in the front yard, as we speak though. Of course that priced snowballed from just cleaning/up and replacing dead plants to installing landscape edgers around the garden. About 90+ linear feet!!!1  Yeah, that price exploded! And when summer gets here the backyard & pool will still look like crapola!

So I can always go take a shower Or sit out on the front stoop with a drink in hand & admire my pavers. :upsidedow
