Let's Talk Remodeling

Does anyone have an opinion on how this granite would look with cherry cabinets & the travertine tile?

http://www.granitestock.com/eis-cgi...ana Bordeaux&templ=granite_csearch_color.html

I have to say that I am very, very partial to this granite. I love it! When we did our basement kitchen, it was between Juperana Bourdeax and Crema Bourdeau. The Crema won only because it matched our deep chocolate/black cabinetry the best.

Recently at a granite yard I saw Juperana that was to die for!! The right slabs and boy, it's gorgeous!

Boy is that an understatement! If you'll notice, my WDW ticker is gone. We've decided to go back to Playa del Carmen again instead. We had the best vacation ever! This resort was phenomenal!

My poor husband though... I managed to find something in the hotel room that I liked, that I'm having him do in our master bedroom. I've really been wanting blackout drapes in there, and the way they had theirs hung looked great. Of course, it involves carpentry. He's thrilled. :lmao:

I think the granite is gorgeous (I've seen it in person many times). I'd have to see it next to the cabinets though. My only concern is that it would be too much red. I'd really have to see it with the cabinets in person though.

My vanity came with the granite, so we bought some individual Absolute Granite black tiles at a tile store and the contractor cut them into squares and installed them on the diagonal.
Ditto!

Glad you had a great trip! It sounds wonderful! But your poor DH! ;)

We're having issues with the travertine we picked, it's running darker than usual & not blending well with the mosaics that are available. I'm making DH come with me this morning to look at other options that won't run the price up too much. I really liked the 1x2 running bond with a pencil/cigar mold above & below. I also saw a listello of diamond travertine, that can be ordered with a better matching travertine color & adding the Crema bordeaux every so often. (See below comments on granite yard ) But I'm a little afraid that would be too bold. The owner of the tile place was sort of guiding me towards that for a good color match. So now I'm confused but we are going this morning with my DH & our contractor, so it will be decided & ordered today!

;) That's so funny, because walking through the granite yard yesterday, it seems that the Crema Bourdeaux may have won out! I didn't pick out the actual slab yesterday cus DH couldn't get there, so I'm gonna wait til he can go with me to pick out the slab. I went in sure that I wanted the Juperana, but as I was walking through the yard, a slab would catch my eye & each time it was the Crema!

The Juperana they had was very pretty but more on the spotty granite end while the Crema has a lot of movement & flow in the slabs they had. We probably won't get back over there until next week, so we'll see how it looks then!

Now that, without a doubt in my mind, will look good with cherry cabinets. That's a very pretty granite!

With you & mickeysgal that sounds like two strong votes for the Crema! :goodvibes

We went pick out the tile, which I wasn't totally happy about, but now that the tile is here & I've seen a piece of it in the house, I'm feeling better.

We really didn't like the other travertines in the same price range, those were running very light. So we stuck with the darker one we originally picked out. But that meant that neither the crema nor the noce color accents blended well. So we went with the multi-color 1x2 running bond mosaic accent. We couldn't add the pencil moulding I really wanted because again, the colors didn't mesh well. (Neither the crema nor the noce blended with it. :confused3 ) Also because of a little added color in the multi & was afraid to do too much. We are going to put 18's "square" on the floor & cut them for 9x18's in a running bond on the wall. The accent will be about eye level. What do y'all think of this?

I'm really hoping this will all come out the way I'm envisioning. I forgot to mention our contractor/tile guy called Sunday night worried he couldn't get the large tiles to work with all the sloping we are having to do for the roll in shower. When he mentioned 1x2's on the floor, DH & I had a whole evening of panic! But when he came here on Monday morning & worked on laying it all out, he was able to figure it all out. Whew! A large wet room with little bitty tiles is NOT what we wanted at all!

Here's the lavatory we are going to go with. Dropped in on top of the granite counter, for a more antique look.

And I know toilets are no fun, but here it is. Ending up picking a kohler one anyway so the worry about the Am. Stand. & kohler colors was all for nothing. I'm going with Almond color.

I tried to put the sketch of the vanity on here & the floor plans but couldn't get it to work. I'll have to ask DH for help with that, so y'all can have a better idea of what we're doing.

Shovan, that's similar to the lav we picked out. I wanted an above-mount, since we're doing the above-mount tub.

In our last bath remodel, we had to do 2x2's on a floor to get the slope just right. How in the world did he get 18's to slope? He is a tile god if he was able to pull this off!

Well, it's not done yet, so we'll see! I definitely won't tell him that because he pretty much considers himself a tile god already! :lmao: He is going to put a 1/4" "edge" from the flat area to the sloped area. He is going to bevel & round the tile to make it as smooth as possible. How exactly he is accomplishing the slope, I don't understand. He his doing the cement slab work himself to get the slope just right. He sketched it all on the floor for DH & together they feel sure it's going to work! My fingers are more than crossed!

I do feel very lucky to have found this guy! I know from the ones we had come out here to give us estimates no one else would be willing to do as much as this guy is doing to get this bathroom right. Just the amount of time he's going to put into cutting, beveling, and smoothing tile edges is a surprise.

I've really got to find the time to load my pics in here, so y'all can see what's going on over here! It is really a big deal with all of the slab work that had to be done & now the finesse it's going to take to get the tile right.

I could say the very same thing!

Thanks!

Here a couple of pics of the work this week. I can't find my before shots right now, & my DD came & took pics of the beginning demo, but hasn't sent them to me yet. Sorry I can't get the pics smaller, when I size them down they still show up big.

YUCK!

We are not even excited about the shower!!!! We are excited about plumbing!!!!:rotfl2:

I know. Look!!! Pipes! Woohoo!!!! :rotfl:

Hey, you need to go take a peek on Taylor's Brutus thread. There's talk of a failed romance between him (not Taylor) and Chloe. I swear, she hasn't been unfaithful to Duncan. :rolleyes1

And this morning the travertine bench seat came in:

He was able to do the slope with the large tiles! I'm so excited this is all finally coming together!

Shovan, that is looking great! We have to have the same travertine. That looks just like my hall bathroom tile.

We still haven't started our bathroom, but I did find out that Home Depot rents out dumpsters, so at least we can start doing the demo ourselves and save $1k. We're waiting until after the holidays, since we always have Christmas here.

I have almost finished redecorating my master bedroom though! We're still waiting on our new bed, so that I can hang pictures and I'm done. It has turned out great, but I can't get it to photograph without the walls looking orange. :rolleyes1

Thanks! I really excited about it! It's looking even better than I imagined! I LOVE this tile! The tile store called it Classico Select. Here's another pic of the work accomplished today.
