Let's Talk Remodeling

He was able to do the slope with the large tiles! I'm so excited this is all finally coming together!

Thats just amazing that he could get the slope right. :worship:

It's looking beautiful. I bet you can't wait for it to be done.

Phew, I think I saved us from making a big mistake!

We've been to tile stores looking at tile for the kitchen backsplash. We thought we wanted it in the same color as the floor, but I knew I wanted it just a bit darker. It currently still has the old blue/green (med to dark) paint there.

This morning I took a LARGE piece of left over vinyl flooring & put it where the backsplash would go. OMG!!!! Doing a light color like that would be SOOOOO wrong in that kitchen. DH & I both noticed it right away. We decided it needs to be at least medium tone if not darker. Or even carry the new sage green paint there & just tile a 4" backsplash / border instead.

I have such a hard time envisioning things. Its usually where I make my mistakes. All my decisions have been right so far. Don't want to screw it up now.

So...we now need to start the backsplash search all over again. Hopefully it won't screw too much with other choices already in place.

I suppose we could also just have more Silestone cut to make a 4" backsplash, but I wanted the newer look without a short backsplash. Ugh!

But on a more positive note, we think we found our pulls for the cabinets. And they are only $2.49 at home depot. Surprised I picked something inexpensive for a change. lol I would have loved knobs, but unfortunately, the existing doors have pulls everywhere. I was willing to try to fill & stains the holes (oak cabinets) but DH doesn't want me to since he's sure he'll be able to tell the difference.

Now I need to try to find a way to change the appearance of what are horribly tarnished antiqued gold hinges into looking somewhat like oil rubbed bronze. The new pulls have a more gold undertone than copper understone, so hopefully it will work. DH doesn't want to spend $ changing to hinges that you don't see.

Well, I certainly won't show him the worship smilie! He is already so full of himself on this job, he can barely stand it! I do have to say I actually feeled very very lucky & blessed to have found this guy! Neat, clean, trustworthy & awesome work! I don't know what more I could ask for? Oh and did I mention he's very nice looking & a good family man too!

Glad you found out before you put something in!!! $2.49 is a real bargain on pulls! I've been researching cabiinet pulls myself. I'm pretty happy with what I found today, almost identical to my antique pulls but also come in an oiled bronze finish.

Here are some of the recent pics of the shower:

I'm very happy with everything so far. We are going to have a wait on the vanity though. The owner ( also the guy who makes everything happen) broke his leg this past weekend, so everything is behind over there.

Because of that situation our contractor has decided to finish up the shower/toilet room completely before ripping out the vanity. This will make life a little easier!

Looking good!! :thumbsup2  I really like the color & pattern too.

Bummer on the vanity. But it will be worth it when its in.

That is going to be a gorgeous shower!!

We have been finishing up our kitchen and are finally getting the floor tile done now. We did it backwards I guess, getting the tile done last. :rolleyes1

Thanks guys!! :goodvibes I have some more pics for y'all! The tile in the wet room is almost totally done! The accents went in today! Tomorrow is going to be a mess though, polishing & grinding edges will be done. Then grouting on Friday. Sealing on Monday. He said we'll be showering by the middle of next week!!!! :cool1:

I am so happy the way this is all turning out. It's even prettier than I could have ever imagined & it's not even finished yet.:goodvibes It's also going to make life so much easier for my DH & myself!

Shovan! Oh my gosh, that looks awesome! You must be so excited!

We are actually giddy with excitement over it! :upsidedow When my DH got up this morning, he mumbled "Whoa!" I asked if he was dizzy from his head cold. He said "No, the bathroom just surprises me every time I see it!" :lmao:

I have grinding & polishing going on now. He has it all sealed off, so hopefully not too much of the dust will end up all over the house. Luckily it's cool here today & we don't need the AC or heat, so that's good!

Hi! I am subbing to come back later...Sheryl, again, your bathroom is amazing!!!

We are in the process of renovating our downstairs bathroom, which is turning out to be a new laundry room and family room. DH is doing the work himself so it will take a while.

Here are some pics:

My DH is going to use the Kerdi system/drain. Has anyone ever heard of this? He has been spending many hours on a tiling board and even taking to the author of the book.

I'll be back when I have more time...maybe you guys will help me keep my sanity. I think this project will take a while! ;)

That is one awesome shower! I love how large it is. :cloud9:

You can have a party in there. party:

I don't know where you live, but I sure hope it's where there is actual water and not in a drought area. It would be a shame to have that beautiful shower and be able to only stand in it a few short minutes to conserve water! That shower is meant to be enjoyed.

Lauren, Welcome to the home of stressed out remodelers!!! Hopefully someone as heard of your kerdi shower system. If not you'll have company to gripe, beach & moan with!

That whole room is about 8x9. It is going to be a "wet room" though, the toilet is going to go in under the window.

No, one thing we don't have to worry about in New Orleans is drought! Water conservation is not an issue here, we have the Muddy Mississippi to draw from, so we'll be able to shower has long as the hot water heater will allow. ( We are going to try it with the heater we have now, if it doesn't last long enough we'll change it to a tankless heater or just a larger one.)

Well, it wasn't remodeling, but it was major redecorating, which is the ugly step-sister, so I think it deserves an honorable mention. I still have drapes to do, but at least this side of the room is done!

We got new bedding, a new bed (More black furniture! God help me when it goes out of style!) and new pictures and lamps. The paint is not this orange, but I give up trying to get it to photograph properly. I really need to stick to real estate.

I need an opinion too. This bed has four removable posts. I personally like the back two on (My husband likes all four on), and the front (foot of the bed) off. When they're not on there, they can be replaced with bun finials.

Do you think all four posts are too much?

Or does it look better with the bottom ones off?

It's a pretty big room, so the bed with all four posts on fits in there really well.

Just looking at the bed itself, I like all four on. But I can't really tell from the pics how large your room is. If it makes the room seem smaller or more closed in, do just the back two. It really looks nice both ways! Love the room color! And the mix of furniture color with the armoire! You already had that piece, right? It looks great, can't wait to see the drapes!

I had the other furniture, and what you can't see, is the bed has a rubbed finish that shows an oak color through it, and it matches the existing furniture. I was super scared mixing woods, but it worked!

And the drapes... well, I need the fainting smilie again. I wanted blackout drapes and it'd not going to be cheap, so I may be going without for awhile.

Hey everyone :)
I'm trying to catch up with everyone, so it will take me a few days! We're moving fast on this thread.
We did move into the house almost a month ago and just got our intenet last week but had to deal with a medical emergency with DS (he got a severe allergic reaction to some medication and we spent a few days in the hospital taking care of that. He's fine now. Most of the allergy is gone).

Before that happened, our bathroom was finished. Here are the "after" pics. Please excuse the "living" in the bathroom since we have been using it for a little while now.

Syrreal, that looks great! I love the slate! :thumbsup2

Sorry about your son! That must have been super scary. Glad to hear he's on the mend!

Syrreal, That is looks great! Love your vessel sinks! The slate is very pretty and the tub looks niiiicce!!!! :thumbsup2 Glad your DS is okay, that must have been scary!

Am I There Yet, We all can all sympathize with having to wait! We have a brown square in our den right now, (where the closet was, that we closed in for part of the bath). The den is still paneling covered with wallpaper, but because it's a large room with other things ( like the formica topped wet bar ) that need changing it will have to wait a while. Of course when I cleaned out that closet I mistakenly threw out the wallpaper we had used for the den! I could have at least done a temporary fix.

Good news though we will get to shower in the new bathroom tonight! :cool1:

Here's a pic with the new shower heads & jets.
IMG_0036.jpg

And I know I'm a little messed up here, but I think even the toilet is pretty! I have to order the oil rubbed bronze flush handle. I had bought all the towel rings, shower hooks & my contractor made me rethink my decisions. So we're going to wait & use the shower to figure out what we want & where.

IMG_0038.jpg

But the cabinet shop still hasn't even started on the vanity. They are now saying the expected finish date is Dec 10.!

It really isn't too bad though, the contractor did not rip out the old vanity or sink yet. He's going to stop work until the vanity comes in.

Oh my gosh Shovan, that looks awesome! :yay: I love it!

AMITY, your "orange" room looks great. I think I like the four posts, but then I have a four post bed. I love your bedding!

Syrreal, Your bathroom came out fabulous. I also love the kitty in the pictures. :)

Shovan, your bathroom looks absolutely beautiful! I LOVE that shower (and your toilet isn't too shabby either!)!

I can't wait to show it to my husband when he finishes work!
