Well Dopey was short last week. So I don't think it will be Sleepy.
Not Pocahontas either -- not that great of a pin.
I'm guessing Buzz and the MM Club.

What do you think? Or maybe could there actually be NO shortages?! Is that possible?;)

:jester:

hmmmm you guys must be shopping at the wrong store... we've had at least one full box of every pin every saturday.... and 2 boxes of some styles :)

While did sell out of most every new pin by close yesterday... when I left we had:
Absent minded prof
Grumpy
Dopey
Happy
and 2 Darkwing ducks

Kathi

I have figured out that our two Omaha TDS are splitting the same shipment numbers between them that the one TDS in Des Moines receives. And DM just doesn't have the collectors. Maybe just a few. And I think the same goes for Lincoln, NE TDS.
When the stores sell less than 6 of one style, and about 15 people are in line at 10:00 opening......
Luckily many are only buying the pins they like and only one. Some haven't been able to egt all they want. But they are not die hard addicts -- er collectors, as we are. ;)

I've been thinking about this topic ... it's not what we, as pin collcetor's, think will be a popular pin that creates a shortage ... it is what pins the Disney Stores don't receive that makes it a shortage at some locations ... you would think there was a way for the stores to know ahead of time what pins they are short of & get more pins before Saturday ... the manager who opened yesterday at my local Disney Store would not even give the first guest in line (not me) the phone number of another store ... the guest wanted to call & see if it was even worth driving almost an hour to find the pin we were shorted ... so much for guest service

THANK YOU to all the good people on this bb who are trading the pin my store is short. This will help me & some of my Saturday morning pin friends!

JudithM, ya never know tho'. Customers acted desperate last weekend (the 20th) for Figaro. So I had my in-laws buy many extras.
Yesterday, I offered to sell these (at cost) to those standing in front of the store. Only one person took me up on it.
But as the line got longer, I stopped asking. So it could be those in the back may have needed it and we just didn't connect.
Meanwhile I have extra Figaro's, which certainly isn't a hardship. ;)

BUT the good side is that this made those in line realize you can sell/ trade among EACH OTHER. (So much for the store promoting it. ) I am hoping Tuesday we may even have some come to trade due to this!

One guy who is usually #4 - 5 in line still needs #7 & #12. A #7 is on a CM trading lanyard. I pointed that out and told him to come back and bring a trader on Tuesday! He just chuckled.
See -- they just don't have the "gotta have it" in their blood -- yet.:jester: But it will be interesting to see if he shows up Tuesday with a trader.

I couldn't believe yesterday in the Lincoln store how many ATLANTIS pins they had remaining. LOTS!

One of the regular guests in line with me yesterday found the black papers outlining TDS pin trading - they were at the cash register on the other side of the store. She picked them up & passed them outto guests in line. No CM was even mentioning tuesday pin trading. the sign announcing pin trading on Tuesdays was down flat at that same cash register. I guess some of the management there has no interest in pin trading.

Funny youmentioning that. Yesterday the usual CM was ringing up my sales, and I asked her about the pin trading flyers. She said -- Oh we handed those out last week.
Uhh.... Not to the people buying pins they didn't.
Wouldn't you think the pin buyers are who they would give the flyers to? If they handed them out, it was after I was gone. So those in the pin line most likely did not get them.
No other pin guests I spoke with knew about TDS pin trading. Only those I told and other word of mouth. And most pin guests here I think are newcomers. I don't think underdstand how it works or why.
I think they are just starting to get an inkling from me selling to them and overhearing the other pin fanatic and I talk.
One woman does buy pins from WDW Merchandising. Which is more than many people know about.

The CMs there are very much into pin trading. In fact, those not on duty in the store can be found in the front of the line as the store opens. They must arrive around 8:30 or before, because I arrived at 9:00 myself last Saturday and they were already there. They made sure that we had the pin trading information for Tuesdays. It is also true that the "shortages" are due to the number of pins a particular store receives. When talking to other people in line, I found that some of them travel around to different stores in the Houston area and find that some stores do not appear to have shortages. In Houston, it appears that the Dearbrook store has an ample supply. One reason seems to be that there are not many pin collectors that frequent that store. I suspect that another reason could be that the number of pins sent to each store is determined by the size of the store and the "traffic" at that particular store. Now, this next statement is purely a speculation on my part. But, I believe that Disney is attempting to create a bit of excitement by deliberately shorting a particular pin each week. I don't know why this "shorting" is not consistent from store to store. But, you know Disney. They are always doing some kind of statistical study.

Oh, I predict "Lullaby Land" will be the short one. It's usually (not always) the ugliest one.

Barb,

The first time we "spoke", there were less #7's than should have been, then Figaro mysteriously was the only one not in abundance like the rest (I was told they had to ship one of their boxes to another store which was "shorted"???)...now this week, for the first time, there were 23 sets only - one to each of the first 23 in line (well, except for the guy who only wanted the Reluctant Dragon so #24 actually was pretty happy).

The CM's were mystified (but had been well coached to be positive) since this was the first time our store had less than the full 48 or so on everything.

Probably the least believable song of the morning was when our CM told me the cutbacks at WDW planned for December are all for "guest security" reasons and have nothing to do with internal problems. I was just a little mystified about that one...especially the closing of French Quarter, but, oh well.

Next week's "hottie but nottie nuff"? All bets are off - so far I've guessed wrong (although DS has been right) everytime....

I'm thinking the Mickey Mouse Club may be short and/or in high enough demand to make it seem like short supply.

I think it may appeal to a lot of grown-ups ( )who don't usually buy pins.

I also think we may see an ongoing supply/demand problem for two sub-sets:
Poster pins
Dwarves

Then again.... I was totally wrong about Darkwing Duck. :D

Well we all know not to go on your speculations Robyn!! You're the kiss of death to a pin's tradability. Course I shouldn't talk. Most of the pins I like NOBODY wants! But I'm amking headway. I've made a few Villain fans out of fellow DISers. Right Figgy?
