I'm throwing a HUGE Super Bowl open house. Yes, there will be a ton of EAGLES fans here (I live near Philly now but my heart never left the 'burgh). Hey, I cheered for the Birds when they lost to the Pats last year. My friends and neighbors can root for the Steelers when they crush the Seahawks this year. Fair is fair.

In the 1980's, as the steel mills and their supporting factories shut down from Homestead to Midland, Pittsburghers, faced for the first time in their lives with the specter of unemployment, were forced to pick up their families, leave their home towns and move to more profitable parts of the country. The steel workers were not ready for this. They had planned to stay in the ‘burgh their entire lives. It was home.


And now, it's passing from one generation to the next. The children of displaced Pittsburghers, who have never lived in the Steel City, are growing up Steelers fans.


All around the NFL, the word is out that the Pittsburgh Steeler fans “travel well”, meaning they will fly or drive from Pittsburgh to anywhere the Steelers play, just to see their team. The one aspect about that situation the rest of the NFL fails to grasp is that, sometimes, the Steeler Nation does not have to travel. Sometimes, we're already there.
Yes, the short sighted steel mills screwed our families over.
But they did, in a completely unintended way, create something new and perhaps more powerful than an industry.
They helped created a nation.

Well, even if I had an extra 10 grand to spend on tickets, I'd actually rather watch it on TV, and gloating can be priceless, LOL!

My family and I are huge Steelers fans. We have a church service at 7:00, but we'll be able to catch most of the game. I'm also planning on recording the game so we can watch the whole thing at some point. I know, some of you are probably thinking we should skip the service, but that's not in the plans anywhere. My dh is the pastor and my ds and I also lead worship. Besides that, God is first and everything follows. (Don't think I didn't try to see if my dh would consider switching the service time or even make it Saturday night though! lol) I believe that my dh's sermon that night is something about making sacrifices for God or something like that!

We'll be at church as well. I'm commander of AWANA so I have to be there and DH is a deacon. Our very good friend, who also happens to be our our pastor will be TIVOing the game so we can all watch it....delayed.
