Let the Prom Drama CONTINUE . . . . . . . .

I'm posting 2x's! :cool1:

DD is still hoping on Ringling, she won't know until March if she has made it into the Animatin program. Only 95 slots open, sooooo...and she and Art Guy are incompetition with one another as those 95 slots are shared between the Animation and Game Art majors. If she wanted to go for Illustration, she is in, but like your son, she is a bit shell shocked at the cost. She is realizing that owing 6 figures ( $40+ per year :scared:, and that's just Tuition and R&B...art supplies add another ton ) will limit her future choices such as where she can accept a job based on cost of living, if she will qualify for a car loan, if she can afford food! She has applied across the board, from art schools to state university to local Jr College...so that her choices wil not be limited.
Well, it will all be figured out one way or another and a positive aspect of the art world is that age is not really a factor...there are some peolpe entering Ringling in their 30's-40's....and yes, you are a Freshman!
Wow, now that's a selective program!!!! Nice to know, though, that there are opportunities all around so there isn't only one avenue. Isn't it ironic that your DD and Art Guy are looking at the same school? Are they competitive about it?

I empathize. DD was accepted to Georgetown 2 years ago. We were thrilled. Went to the school on the Accepted Students weekend. Loved the kids that were going to go there; loved the kids that were already there; loved the parents that we met. However, back then, it was $46,000 per year, not including travel expenses. I'm sure it's closer to $50,000 per year now. DD ended up staying in state for a variety of reasons and we are VERY glad we didn't have to look at those numbers every year. Studying abroad would DEFINITELY have been out of the question.

DD just called to and said she was coming home. She's going to have to miss her dance tonight (new dress and all :guilty: ). She wanted to get out before the worst hit and didn't want DFi driving that way.
Oh man, that stinks, better safe than sorry but still........that great dress!
Get home and batten down the hatches....we have a storm of "significance" moving in this weekend.

Wow! I don't know whether to hope she gets in and then sorts it out or decides it is not worth the cost, or to hope she doesn't get in so that she can focus on something that is a little more "doable" in terms of the long term costs. That is a tough one.

Pam: has she started looking at dresses yet???? :lmao:

Wouldn't you know, I took an early lunch to go home and let the horses out of the barn (went home at 11). We had them up last night because it was so cold, and I wanted to wait until late morning to let them out to give it time to get at least a little bit warmer. Now, the last hour or so, bad weather has moved into the area (sleet/snow/ice), and my horses are out.

DD just called to and said she was coming home. She's going to have to miss her dance tonight (new dress and all :guilty: ). She wanted to get out before the worst hit and didn't want DFi driving that way. We just got word that they're turning our schools out in a few minutes.
I hope your horses are okay; I'm sure they'll be fine until you get home.

I'm so sorry about your DD missing the dance tonight, but it's more important that she's safe and not driving in it!! (or DFi)

With the Almond champagne it had the nuance of a Almond Joy candy bar, but not so sweet and the flavors were very subtle. I am not a huge chocolate fan, but I actually kinda liked it. I preferred the Almond champagne by itself tho.

Well, I've never met a candy bar I didn't like! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

FYI; per Sheila's suggestion (thanks!), I notified the moderators about how we were starting a new thread. I just went out to check, and they closed our old one. So we are actually valuable contributing members to the DIS's new swift speed. :thumbsup2

We definitely couldn't have done it - no way, no how! :scared:

DH will be home shortly (and so will I as soon as I finish here), so he can round everybody back up. I need shavings really bad if everybody's going to be in the barn (looks like I may have to make a fast run to the shavings place too).

Always glad to be a good citizen! :thumbsup2

Y'all have a great weekend, I'm outta here!

You have a great weekend as well, stay warm, and drive carefully. It actually sounds like where I am in Colorado will be warmer than where you are in Mississippi!! Strange.

We had some light ice (enough to cover the roads and make them dangerous). DFi came over about 6 p.m. (before it got too bad) and brought DD a bouquet of her favorite flowers (Calla lillies). He thought that might cheer her up about missing the dance (and it did).

His mother called about 9 and asked him to see if he could stay here last night because the ice had collected on the roads by then. He argued a little bit, but we insisted, so he agreed to stay. When he and DD went to check on the horses, he slipped on the ice and decided that his mother was right after all! :rotfl2:

Some good news yesterday - I found out that the decision has been reversed concerning the principal that I talked about. He will be rehired after all. :thumbsup2

Also, it looks like I'm going to be the new librarian at DH's school next August. I'm satisfied with that and am actually looking forward to it. It will involve a pay cut because I'll go from being 12 months to 10 months, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It will be nice to walk out the end of May and not have anything to worry about over the summer. This was the job that I asked for when I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, so I'm relieved that he's meeting me halfway. We'll see how it goes from here.

I'll be in Jackson at a conference Mon.-Weds., then come back to leave on Saturday for Orlando. I'll have my laptop, so I'll check in on y'all from time to time.

Glad that DFi decided to stay at your home. Doesn't sound like it would have been a good idea to be driving on that ice.

Glad that the principal won't be canned after all. Was this due to some pushback by the school board? Or did the new superintendent change his mind?

Also, congratulations on your new position for next year!!! :thumbsup2 I think that having summers off would help take the edge off all of the rest of the aggravation you've gone through. No doubt you'll still see more of it before this school year is over!!!

Have a good time in Jackson!!

A warm front is moving through here and we are dealing with LOTS of wind. So much that it really affected our sleep last night. Hopefully it will be gone by the end of today.

Had friends over for margaritas and pizza Saturday night; that was fun. Sorta putzed around yesterday and ran a few errands. Cleaned the downstairs on Saturday - my kitchen hasn't been this clean in a long time!!!! And it probably won't be again for awhile!! :)

Well, must start working, so I'll talk to you ladies later. Have a great day.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it had to be feedback from some of his supporters (he doesn't seem to care what the school board thinks :confused3 ). All I know is that he went back to the principal and told him that he had made a mistake and had changed his mind. Fortunately, the principal agreed to stay.

I'm satisfied and somewhat relieved. It could have wound up a lot worse. I really don't want to have to look for a job somewhere else. As we've talked about before, we aren't close to anything, and the cost of gas would really cut into a salary.

We had a productive meeting. He commented on how impressed he was with my organizational skills, attention to detail, and overall knowledge. He then asked me to start sitting in on some of his meetings - said that he thought I would have a lot to add (which I thought was kind of humorous considering my job is being eliminated ;) :rotfl2: ).

Have a good time in Jackson!!

We're traveling now (gotta love these Cingular cards! :thumbsup2 ). DH is also attending the conference, so he's doing the driving. It's a beautiful sunny day.

I HATE wind, becuase that invariably means that limbs are going to fall on the fence, and somebody has to deal with (not me though! )

Coming up on the Hilton now, so I'd better go. Talk more later!

Where shall I start?

I had 3 rooms booked at a hotel for myself/DH, two other teachers married to each other, and another teacher who was on her own (but her DH came with her). Her name starts with M.

I gave the others the exact same directions (cut and pasted so they defintely weren't worded differently). The couple married to each other found the hotel and checked in with no problem (called me, and they had no problems - I had given everybody my cell phone number).

I later talked to another teacher who was in a different hotel with another teacher (two females sharing a 2BR suite). These two are from our district but are presenting at the conference so I don't have to pay their expenses (I had brought some things she needed for her presentation). Just in passing, I asked if their room was okay. She said yes, they only had a 2BR, but it was going to work out okay because M and her husband would be leaving tomorrow night, and she would only have to share a bed with K the one night.

I asked her why M and her husband were in their room. She asked weren't they supposed to be? I told her no, that I had a room for them and had told M that (given her the check-in time, directions to the hotel, my cell phone #, and told her the keys would be in an envelope with her name on it at the front desk). :confused3 If I hadn't found this out by chance today (so they could move), I would have paid $129 for one empty room tonight, and I would have been really mad tomorrow.

To top that off: DD wasn't thrilled about having to come home to take care of the horses. She doesn't have classes on Tuesdays/Thursdays, so it didn't hurt her to do so. She kind of tap danced around it Sunday but saw that I was going to get annoyed (no reason for me to pay somebody when she can easily do it).

First, she decided to bring her roommate home with her. I did NOT leave the house in "company" condition (Sandy, I told you that I needed you! :rolleyes1 ).

Next, she decided that she was afraid she saw somebody walk into the barn (of course, it was after dark by the time they got home because she had to go back to the apt. after class and wait for roomie to pack). So, I had to call around to find one of our male friends to go to the house and go to the barn with her.

Then to top it off, she went out the door (security doors all around) and locked herself out (car keys in the house). :headache: I'm 225 miles away with it looking like I'm going to have to drive home, and she can't understand why I'm annoyed. :crazy2:

She said that she could always have broken a window and gotten in (this was after our friend had helped her get in), so why was I aggravated. DH asked her who was going to watch the house until we got back on Wednesday with the window broken out. To which she replied, "Oh". :sad2:

From now I'll hire someone (which is what she wanted me to do), but she doesn't know yet that she's going to get the bill. ::yes::

Poor Sheila!!! You have had some aggravating moments yesterday, didn't you?

Amazing how you can practically hand-feed somebody and they STILL don't get the right information. Glad that you got the hotel room thing figured out for them!!

As for your DD, I can relate. I love my children dearly, but they can be so infuriating at times. DD signed a new lease for a house next year with some friends, and of course I am the one to make sure that she has enough $$$ in the checking account to cover the deposit required. Makes you want to pull your hair out at times.

I wait to see what your DD's reaction will be when she gets the bill for the animal care services NEXT TIME!! :rotfl:

Hang in there. I hope today is much better. :) Work is very busy this week, so I am back to that!!

You know, I go out of my way. I get their travel for them ahead of time and take care of all of the arrangements, but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get stuff out of them if I don't go too (like receipts, etc. that you HAVE to have for the auditors :rolleyes1 ).

Yeah, banks are really funny about expecting there to be money in the account, and landlords are even funnier about expecting to be paid! ;)

She IS going to get it, and she IS going to be very unhappy. :rotfl2:

Have a good day! :thumbsup2

hey girls - I am in the middle of getting W-2's, 1099's & all the year end reports done. I would love to chat, but I can't. Didn't want you to think I was ignoring you

Sandy: Hope the weather stays decent
Sheila: Glad to hear you will continue to be employed. Have a safe trip - I didn't read of an upgrade:confused3 Do they not know who is staying at their establishment:lmao: obviously not!

OH CRAP - power just went out - on battery - gotta go:eek:

Well, actually, I did get upgraded to a 1BR suite now that you mention it. :rolleyes1

Well, girls, yet another red letter day comes to an end... ;)

Everyone attending the conference was invited to have dinner with the new Supt. tonight (he was in town attending a Supt.'s conference). It was a little bit uncomfortable since two of the individuals here are the ex-Supt.'s brother and the brother's wife (both teach for the district). It was one of those things where they felt uncomfortable but felt like they had to go.

That was followed up after we got back to the room by a phone call from DD who was very distraught. We've had some very heavy winds across the state this evening. It was bad enough that DH told DD to put all of the horses in the barn and leave them until we get home tomorrow.

Apparently, it got bad enough that it flipped DD's squirrel's cage upside down. This is a very large cage (probably 12 ft long, 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall, and the same wide). It's built up on legs. She's 8 years old, and we've never had a storm that came close to bothering the cage before. The one time we did, we took her out, put her in a pet carrier, and brought her in the house. The wind didn't just turn it over, it completely flipped the entire cage and apparently popped the door open.

DD and Fi found it when they went out to check on the horses. The squirrel (Skia) immediately ran and jumped on DD when she saw her (of course, Skia was scared and relieved to see DD). When she jumped on DD so suddenly, it startled Fi, and he yelled. That scared Skia, and she jumped off of DD and ran up a tree. They weren't able to get her down, and she disappeared into the darkness. :guilty:

DD is upset. The temperature has really dropped, and the wind is still fierce. They fixed the cage back up, put lots of extra food in there, and left the door open. Hopefully, she'll figure out how to get herself back in. DD is worried about the cats attacking her. :scared:

I'm really hoping that tomorrow is better than the last couple of days. I'm almost afraid to leave town again on Saturday. :rolleyes1

Well, Sheila, it certainly sounds like you've had more than your share of excitement!!!

I'm sure that dinner WAS an uncomfortable one!!!!

Any news about Skia? I hope that she returns home soon. I'm sure that the cage and lots of food would be very welcoming!!

"Wind" really seems to be the theme lately for all of us. We are still dealing with it here; not as bad as before, but still pretty relentless at night. I am missing out on some MUCH needed beauty sleep!!! :)

Melissa, I hope your power came back on and you're getting those W-2s and 1089s out of your life!!! Yuck - not my cup of tea!!!

Will write more later when I have more time!! Have a good day, all. :goodvibes

I like this thread, don't often post here, but remember reading it back in the day when there really was a prom dress being agonized over. I have a slightly younger DD than most of you, so am taking notes...

agnes!

Agnes! - we are glad you rejoined us. Spring is coming soon, so there WILL be talk of prom dresses again. Unfortunately, for me, with a DS still in high school, all we get to deal with here in Colorado is a boring tuxedo!! ;)

Feel free to join in again anytime. We're a pretty irreverent group!!
