Let the Prom Drama CONTINUE . . . . . . . .

Okay - I have PROM drama - yeah!!!!

Sorry, I was all excited. I'll get caught up first......our power was out here for about 2 hours and up the road at the high school it was out for over 3. DS was having fits, he was supposed to be out at 12:10 and they would not let the kids leave.......they didn't even let them change classes. He was texting me like a caged animal:lmao: gheesh, cope would you! Anyway, they finally let the kids who had their free period go and he and I went to lunch.

Sheila:
I am so glad the hotel came to it's senses and you received some sort of upgrade. What ya doing this summer? Can you come on our road trip and keep us all in suites? :lmao:
Your poor DD, at first I wasn't feeling to sorry for her,:rolleyes1 but things have obviously gotten way out of hand and she is in over her head. Has Skia come back? How awful, the poor thing is up a tree and probably scared to death.
Dinner, I'm surprised someone didn't spike the idiots food!

Sandy:
We too are getting awful winds. Wind is pretty normal around here but the really high gusty blow the fence down, DD insists on sleeping in our room kinda wind has been more frequent this winter as has the snow, we got more last night. The morning commutes suck and I only have to go about 8 miles!

Agnes:
Welcome back, feel free to join in.
How old is your DD? I have one who is almost 10 and I am trying to figure out how to send her to college with her brother. ;)

OK - as promised - here is the latest prom dilemna caused not by my DS or GF but by me and my Best friend.

DS's girlfriend is not into any of the drama that makes up HS, this is one of her attractions.

The JA Formal dance is coming up next month and prom in May.

Last week, while at a MaryKay party which was hosted by DS's best friends girlfriends Mom (are y'all still with me?)
We have known all these kids and parents for years and we all socialize. We will call the girl Liz, she is one of "those" girls, she is snotty, snide, mean etc..........

Liz is sitting in the kitchen looking at dresses on line. She is discussing with us which one she wants for JA and which one she wants for Prom.
(Now, I am a pretty practical girl, and have never understood the whole "can't wear the same dress twice" thing, but I do get that it is a big deal, because my BFF has pounded it into my head)

Anyway, Liz says to me "so, does DS's girlfriend have her dress yet" she says it in "that" tone.......I respond with "yes, and it is beautiful!" all the while Liz has that little sneer on her face, I wanted to smack her!

So, couple days later I am relating this conversation to my BFF and she asks me if GF is planning to wear the same dress twice:eek: well, I don't know but knowing GF it would be a strong possibility! BFF is of course "very concerned" and the more we discuss it so am I. Don't want Liz and her co-horts to get their claws into GF, she really is too sweet for that and DS would just go postal if he had any idea.

So, we have hatched a plan, my BFF has an assortment of formal gowns, since she can't wear them more than once:lmao: and she is willing to let GF have her pick, we can then take it to the tailor we know and voila, GF will have a fabulous gown for prom that no other girl in this town will be wearing! We have also agreed that if she doesn't like any of them we will go in together and buy her a new dress. This is afterall DS's Senior Prom and his arm candy needs to be the belle of the ball!

Now we are trying to figure out how to approach GF. I mentioned it to DS yesterday and told him that while I understand that GF probably doesn't care what Liz and the other girls think, we care for her and want to protect her from their forked tongues!
DS agreed, that he thought she was going to wear the same dress, he see's our point and is willing to help us outfit GF.

At the same time DS is laughing because his Tux as always is all black with a burgundy tie and his best friend (the one who dates Liz) is wearing purple! Last year the BFF wore pink, DS thinks Liz has way too much power over his BFF and that she is always "sissying" him up! So, he is onboard for shutting Liz up and at the same time taking the best looking girl to the Prom

So, does that qualify as Prama????????

Back to my reports, I am almost done, I have to go uncover the typewriter:scared1: and type the 1099's my puter program doesn't do them right. I hate the typewriter, it doesn't have a backspace!

Back at ya later ladies.............

You've got some good dress drama going on, Melissa. I like the plan hatched by you and your BFF. :thumbsup2

Back to work for me too . . .

If anyone wants a slightly used 17-year old boy with an "attitude", I have one that I'm going to give away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DS has an AP Calculus test this morning. We received about 3-4 inches of snow last night (grumble, grumble). I graciously moved my dentist appointment, set for this morning, to another day so DS could take my SUV to school. And, because of the snow, I woke DS up 10 minutes early so he could take his time on the roads and get there safely with no rush.

Well, he was mad because I took 10 minutes off his sleeping time!! Do you know how important 10 minutes of sleep are to a high school senior?!?!?! Heaven forbid. :sad2: He should be home by 11:00 this morning and he'd BETTER be in a happier mood!!

DS has a date for the Snowball Dance. It's held the weekend after Valentine's Day. Nice girl; I think they're more friends than anything. So no big romance. We've known her all her life - she's a junior and her brother used to play soccer with DS. They all went to elementary school together. The couple is planning some sort of red/black clothing scheme, so I will be taking DS shopping over the next week or so to put together his manly ensemble. ;)

I hope all is well with you. The wind has thankfully stopped. Like I said, we have snow on the ground, but it's bright and sunny this morning, so I am hopeful that it melts off soon.

Have a great day, all!!! :goodvibes

If anyone wants a slightly used 17-year old boy with an "attitude", I have one that I'm going to give away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:lmao: Good luck with that:lmao: I already have one:rotfl2: Maybe Sheila will take him off your hands, something about broken fences, escaped farm animals etc. I am sure she could put him to some use!
Well, he was mad because I took 10 minutes off his sleeping time!! Do you know how important 10 minutes of sleep are to a high school senior?!?!?! Heaven forbid. :sad2:
Somewhere in the manual that they didn't come with it addresses the sleeping issue, or so I have been informed! Tell him next time you are going to the dentist and he can take the bus! I am amazed at the fear the word bus can strike in DS. :scared1: Imagine the horror, a SENIOR having to take the bus:laughing:
So no big romance. We've known her all her life
It's always the one we least expect;)

one of my favorite color combo's.....
I hope all is well with you. The wind has thankfully stopped.
Well that explains why the roof felt like it was going to rip off last night, it is either torturing your or me. We are slated for more snow tonight and then again on Sat & Sun.

DS and I sat up til midnight talking about the local girl who went missing here 11 days ago. It has been all over the news. I have been sending out any info that comes my way to everyone in my email address book, I think keeping her face in the media will go along way towards solving the mystery. If interested you can catch up on RGJ.COM there is a section for Brianna Denison - very scary. DS and I were discussing all the details, the descriptions and then things like listening to your internal instincts etc. At this point, I am not holding out a lot of hope but I do hope for the families sake that they find her.

Sheila: How is that suite;) ?????

Back to work, you all have a great day

Brrrr......okay, I have about had enough! A semi was blown over and blocking my exit ramp last night, I had to go around along with the rest of the world! :headache: It spit and blew all night leaving us another ice rink to drive on this morning.

DS got a job, he starts on Monday - what a novel concept! He has 2 classes a day and 1 is aide, I think he can spare the time! His GF might suffer from neglect but oh well;)

Starting to get a handle on my desk, I can see the surface in some areas.

Not a lot else going on, hope all is well in your worlds and that the heinous weather that I saw on the news this morning is missing you all!

Pam: How is the weather up there?

Have a good day, I'll check in later

Happy Friday!!! :dance3:

The wind is still just as bad here, and we are having computer network problems (not my home computer; my company's ENTIRE work from home system), so today is not starting out well. At least it's not too cold outside.

DD is coming home tonight and spending the weekend, so we are looking forward to that very much!!

Well, I gotta get caught up with work - quitting at 1:00 today to run some errands. Will check back later.

Melissa - congrats on DS's job. Sorry his social life will suffer, but his bank balance should improve!!! :rotfl: Drive carefully!!!!!

I like this thread, don't often post here, but remember reading it back in the day when there really was a prom dress being agonized over. I have a slightly younger DD than most of you, so am taking notes...agnes!

Hi, agnes! Glad to have you with us. Drop in anytime! :thumbsup2 I don't think you're the only one who drops in from time to time (based on the number of views and the number of posts). Everybody's welcome (Melissa has a fondness for martinis, Sandy enjoys the ski slopes, and I'm the unofficial local humane society - much to my DH's dismay :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: ).

Okay - I have PROM drama - yeah!!!!

I know the type you're talking about, and they really annoy me. Fortunately, that was never DD's attitude (I think spending so much time around horse manure probably helps :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: ). When she and her Fi first started dating, he said that was one of the things that attracted him to her so much - the fact that she "didn't act like most of the girls" he knew.

I think you've got a great plan. Perhaps BF can sell it to her from the perspective of having different dresses for the different sets of pictures. If she's like my DD, she probably wouldn't be offended by the offer to start with if it's presented pragmatically (did I spell that right?). Just say you've heard a lot of the other girls talking about having two different dresses and that you think it's ridiculous to spend money on two different ones BUT since everybody else is, you have a friend with a vast asst. that she would love to let GF go through to see if there's anything she likes.

I hope it works out okay for her, and they have a great time. I would like to say that girls like Liz grow out of that sort of thing, but mostly, they just grow up to be nasty women too.

Sounds like an outfit DD would like. She wants red for her wedding (red bridesmaids dresses and roses for decoration).

Well, I could have used him right up until a few minutes ago. I've got a guy working at home for me today (picking up limbs from the storm, putting missing shingles back on the house, and cleaning out the barn). He'll be by later to pick up his $150. :lmao:

That's so sad. Whenever I see something like that on the news, it shakes me to my bones. I hope the mystery is solved.

DS got a job, he starts on Monday - what a novel concept! He has 2 classes a day and 1 is aide, I think he can spare the time! His GF might suffer from neglect but oh well;)

DD has never been one to really want to go out and find a job. :rolleyes1 But, I'll have to say that she has really enjoyed this pharmacy job she has. She works 5 hours on Saturdays, and they pay her $50 (which helps her spending money). Good luck to your DS on his new job (yeah, I think with his class load he can probably handle it ;) )! :thumbsup2

Happy Friday!!! :dance3:
DD is coming home tonight and spending the weekend, so we are looking forward to that very much!!

Glad to hear that. I know that we're really lucky to have ours home every weekend. I hope y'all have a great weekend! :thumbsup2

Now to catch up just a little bit (I've been swamped trying to get ready to leave town tomorrow morning).

Skia (the squirrel) is fine now. When I got home, I was able to catch find her quickly (she was up in a tree just above her cage). It didn't take long for her to come to me, so she's safe back in her cage. Thanks goodness for that, that night we got freezing rain. When I got up yesterday morning, the trees were coated with ice. If she had been out in that, I doubt she could have made it.

Her house (inside the cage) was torn apart and had to be replaced. The new house (my uncle used to build them and had an extra one) is larger and the hole to get in is much higher and smaller. She's not using the new house (the hole may be too small), so I've put her a small blanket in her cage for the last couple of nights (she makes a little cave out of it - it's so sweet).

The blanket got wet yesterday (more freezing rain and sleet), so I had to take it out and dry it for her when I got home about 6 last night (she was glad to get it back). She was able to stay dry during the day by getting up under the eaves of the cage. That works during the day, but it's too cold at night. I got home too late last night to try to work with her house (with DH's help), but I'm going to try to get home earlier this afternoon (and DD will be there to help).

Had a major blow-up with the teacher who had the room problem while in Jackson. It's the first time I've ever lost my temper with a teacher (I'm normally pretty long suffering, but I had had it  ).

She wanted two days per diem (not allowed for a one night trip - you get one day per diem plus one travel day meal - not to mention the hotel gave her breakfast and the conference gave her lunch :rolleyes1 ). She said I told her she could have it beforehand. I told her not hardly.

Then she wanted to know if I had found out whether she would get any help toward her gas money because she said I "had told her I would see if they would help any". :headache: I had specifically told her beforehand that if she went knowing that she was coming back early for a doctor's appt., knowing she would have to go in her own car rather than the school provided transportation, she would have to pay her own travel. Further, I suggested strongly that we have the principal send somebody else who would be there for the full conference and would be able to ride with the authorized transportation. She had (beforehand) insisted that she wanted to go and that she didn't mind at all paying her own gas.

She wasn't happy with my response and told me that she didn't think she had been given enough information (said she didn't even know the conference was providing lunch - it was in the conference brochure, and people were there being served - it would seem she wasn't there to see it, hmmmm?). I told her that I provided her with my cell phone number on two different occasions to call me with any questions, that I went into detail with providing her with information about the hotel room (and that she still somehow managed to wind up in somebody else's room with her husband  ), and that apparently, she needed to try paying attention when she was being given instructions in the future. Then I called her principal and told him not to EVER send her to anything else that I was in charge of. :rolleyes1

Today is the first sane day that I've had so far this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad that you're home and safe, Sheila. :goodvibes

Good news that Skia is back safe in her cage as well!!! Poor traumatized squirrel. (That just sounds so funny to say.)

Good for you for standing up to that greedy teacher. You give some people a small bit, and they are always reaching their hands out for more. Remind me to NEVER make you mad!!! :)

Have a great weekend!!!

I know what you mean about poor Skia, but she really was traumatized. I left out the part where DD's cat attacked her when I was trying to catch her. She came out of the tree and headed toward her cage. He saw her and streaked toward her. He rolled her several times, she would get away, and then he would catch her again. :scared:

Stormy was chasing Skia, and I was chasing Stormy (screaming at the top of my lungs) - all over the backyard. I picked up a limb to try to hit him with to make him turn her loose (I was pretty mad at the time :rolleyes1 ), but she broke loose right then and ran up a tree. It would probably have made it onto one of those "redneck" video shows for sure! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I caught him (and every other cat I saw) and locked them up until I had her. She came to me pretty quickly after that. She's a smart squirrel! ;)

Oh my goodness!!! That really WAS a truamatized squirrel. Those darn cats!! I'm so glad that Skia wasn't hurt. Poor thing.

I meet the teachers at 5:45 a.m. :scared: to load onto the school van to go to the airport. I'll be in Orlando before lunch and will be back Tuesday night.

I'll try to check in with y'all every chance I get. Have a great weekend and beyond! :thumbsup2

You're one travelin' woman!!! Your suitcase is still warm from the LAST trip, girl. :lmao:

Have a safe trip and enjoy the warmer weather (haven't checked; I hope it's warmer). Again, I am SO jealous!!!! Will you get to visit any parks?

Oh, and I hope you enjoy your upgraded room (Melissa and I know you're going to get one!!) :rotfl2:

Everybody's welcome (Melissa has a fondness for martinis, Sandy enjoys the ski slopes, and I'm the unofficial local humane society - much to my DH's dismay :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: ).
I'd say that about wraps us up! :lmao: except Sheila keeps the majority of the animals that find her, she doesn't have much luck adopting them out!

The lack of nasty is one of the things we all including DS like about her. So help me if DD goes down that path:scared:
I think you've got a great plan. Perhaps BF can sell it to her
DS mentioned it to her and she is all for it. I don't think she has ever been in a position to be pampered & spoiled and she is soaking up the attention like a sponge.

Isn't that the truth and we all know them.
Sounds like an outfit DD would like. She wants red for her wedding (red bridesmaids dresses and roses for decoration).
I love, love, love red and I think it makes for beautiful weddings! Personally mine was a cream and burgundy (close enough)
That's so sad. Whenever I see something like that on the news, it shakes me to my bones. I hope the mystery is solved.
This community is just heart broken and scared silly. In the 15 years I have lived here I have never seen anything quite like it. The police keep releasing more assault victims, it is up to 3 now but they were not kidnapped for any length of time they were all either left at the scene or the offender drove them home:scared1: . The sad thing is that the community, especially the campus area was not informed of what was going on since only 1 of the victims came forward. Rumor out of Reno PD is that there are 6 assaults linked to this case, but that has not been confirmed. Parents are up in arms and I would be too. We all just continue to pray that Brianna is found safe and sound.
DD has never been one to really want to go out and find a job. :rolleyes1 But, I'll have to say that she has really enjoyed this pharmacy job she has. DS has lifeguarded the past 4 summers but he enjoys it. With his schedule he can certainly handle it and he should have his own money to do with what he wants. A little spendy money goes a long way.
Glad to hear that. I know that we're really lucky to have ours home every weekend. I hope y'all have a great weekend! :thumbsup2
Same here Sandy, enjoy your time with your DD:love: Remember, you will need a fairly large suitcase to fit DS into in order to ship him back with his sister at the end of the weekend;)
Today is the first sane day that I've had so far this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Yikes, you are not going to know what to do with yourself when you become the librarian!

I am so glad that Skia is safe and sound, there are certain things that only Moms can seem to handle, soothing the kids and the animals are at the top of the list

Funny, yesterday my office was talking about teachers. My DS caught the eye of the head of the Education Dept. at UNR last week while he attended an open house of sorts. The head actually went and tracked him down after the session thru Perspective students where a friend of mine happens to work, DS has voiced a curiosity towards teaching:eek: and he met the dept. head during the open house. (we laughingly say he does have the genetic defect,;) I am about the only one in the family that is not involved in education in about 100 years) DS comes from a long line of educators.

Anyway, we were talking about how some people tend to place educators on some sort of pedestal and while I admire them and try my darndest to be supportive, the teaching field is like any other, there are good ones and there are bad ones! Sounds like you had the luck to be stuck with one of the bad ones!

So sorry.........I have a couple of guys that go into the field and I go over perdiem, then go over it again and then have to explain when they get their checks and 9 times out of 10 I then have to listen to them whine when they return (this on top of when in the field they are making prevailing wage which is generally $50-$60 more PER HOUR than they make here in the shop (that is not a typo, that is California Prevailing Wages). Shut up already! Oh yeah and the field supervisor springs for their dinner every night! Gheesh!
Oh, and I hope you enjoy your upgraded room (Melissa and I know you're going to get one!!) :rotfl2:
My thoughts exactly!

Well girls, I gotta run I hope you all have great weekends - GO PATRIOTS!

Sheila: be safe and enjoy your trip
Sandy: enjoy the visit with your DD
Agnes: have a good one
Pam: stay warm
:grouphug:

Hi ladies!

Wow..you guys have been going thru the ringer! All sorts of news from engagements, new jobs, animal antics, but most importantly...PROM news!
LOL....DD had her Turnabout ( Sadie Hawkins) on the 26th, all went well except for the school having the lights turned up the whole time...playing narc...we had DH's bday the same weekend, then the week from he** involving schoool issues for DS, I guess he is not ready accademically in the eyes of his 8th grade teachers to register for the College prep courses for his Freshman year, which is not good. He is cerainly an average student, but it irks me to no end to predetermine his future at such a young age. This will be an ongoing saga for sure. Snow day today, after digging out of 12" had to get over to my IL's to help there ( DH is back over there tonight)...and on the phone with my dad as it is his 87th birthday....no where near the stress you guys are gong thru but seems to suck up my life. Oh, and theres the doorbell...
well, gotta go, neighbors have an issue and need me to grab their kids, but I will try and get back soon, the last dance DD has now is Senior Prom...:sad1: I am assuming she and Art Guy are going together...man....now THEY just walked in the door, maybe I can send them to the neighbors! my mistake was thinking I actually had a few minutes to chat on the DIS....:surfweb:

I know what you mean. I call it "being anointed" and it annoys me to no end. I think if a kid *wants* to take a class, the powers that be should let him/her. The student might just surprise the so-called experts. Why are there so many gatekeepers? If the kid doesn't do well or fails...well, then at least they know that they got to TRY.

agnes!

The weather is exceptional. Of the 4 teachers I have with me, 2 had never flown before. One kept her eyes shut most of the way and didn't want anywhere near a window! Then she lost her drivers license (just what I needed to hear knowing I had to get her home), but it did finally turn up.

We did take in the Pirate and Princess Party at the Magic Kingdom tonight (which is why I'm up so late doing this! :lmao: ). It was good, and we enjoyed it, but I really think I liked the Christmas Party one better.

I'm going to have to disappoint you and Melissa. :sad2: When I booked my rooms, all they had left were the 2BR suites, so I've already got the best they have :rotfl: (which was still cheaper than the other regular hotels on the list). My mother is probably going to come up and stay a night or two.

Two of my teachers (who had flown) were able to take a voluntary bump for a free ticket. I could have too, but the other two teachers needed me to go with them, so I lost out (must be losing my touch! ;) ).

DS mentioned it to her and she is all for it. I don't think she has ever been in a position to be pampered & spoiled and she is soaking up the attention like a sponge.

That's great! I hope they have a wonderful time (and I'm sure they will). You can tell us all about her "shopping" expedition at your friend's house! :thumbsup2

I am so glad that Skia is safe and sound, there are certain things that only Moms can seem to handle, soothing the kids and the animals are at the top of the list

DD got in after I had gone to bed Friday night. She left a note on my suitcase thanking me for taking such good care of her squirrel. Now how many mothers get letters from their DDs that thank them for taking care of their squirrel! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Funny, yesterday my office was talking about teachers. My DS caught the eye of the head of the Education Dept. at UNR last week while he attended an open house of sorts. The head actually went and tracked him down after the session thru Perspective students where a friend of mine happens to work, DS has voiced a curiosity towards teaching:eek: and he met the dept. head during the open house. (we laughingly say he does have the genetic defect,;) I am about the only one in the family that is not involved in education in about 100 years) DS comes from a long line of educators.

Well, your family couldn't expect to always get it right. They were bound to have one who didn't make the cut! :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Tell your son, good luck!:thumbsup2

this on top of when in the field they are making prevailing wage which is generally $50-$60 more PER HOUR than they make here in the shop (that is not a typo, that is California Prevailing Wages.

 Maybe I'd better rethink my choice of careers!

schoool issues for DS, I guess he is not ready accademically in the eyes of his 8th grade teachers to register for the College prep courses for his Freshman year, which is not good. He is cerainly an average student, but it irks me to no end to predetermine his future at such a young age. This will be an ongoing saga for sure.

I know what you mean. I call it "being anointed" and it annoys me to no end. I think if a kid *wants* to take a class, the powers that be should let him/her. The student might just surprise the so-called experts. Why are there so many gatekeepers? If the kid doesn't do well or fails...well, then at least they know that they got to TRY.

agnes!

I agree completely with you and agnes! It annoys me too. I changed majors twice after I was in college, and I had a friend who changed more times than that, and they think 8th graders should be put on a certain "track". No thanks!

Let me add here that my own DH did not have a stellar high school career (he just didn't care a lot back then - definitely not much encouragement from his parents who just expected him to go to work after high school). When he did go to college (started at age 34), he wound up graduating Summa Cum Laude. I'm quite sure some of his earlier school teachers would have been shocked. :rolleyes1

Wow..you guys have been going thru the ringer! All sorts of news from engagements, new jobs, animal antics, but most importantly...PROM news!
LOL....DD had her Turnabout ( Sadie Hawkins) on the 26th, all went well except for the school having the lights turned up the whole time...playing narc...
Someone has to be the PDA police! :lmao: (My DS complains about the same thing)

Tough call, I understand your frustration. Around here, the kids can take the Honors/AP without needing any type of recommendation. The problem then becomes that the classes are not filled with students who are to the caliper that the courses require and our AP program at the HS is not doing well, according the the tests results. Very few of the kids are passing the exams. The parents are screaming because we are paying for those exams and the teachers are saying that they are spending too much time trying to bring the class up to speed and don't have enough hours to get them all where they need to be. However, I think if they want to take the class they should be given the opportunity and if they can't cut it then they should have a way out early, before it becomes detrimental to their GPA's and the success of the class. It takes an act of Congress for a kid to get out of a Honors or AP class at our HS.
Snow day today, after digging out of 12" had to get over to my IL's to help there
I'm getting a little tired of winter, how about you? :cold: We got 8" between Saturday night and this morning:cold:
The weather is exceptional. Of the 4 teachers I have with me, 2 had never flown before. One kept her eyes shut most of the way and didn't want anywhere near a window! Then she lost her drivers license (just what I needed to hear knowing I had to get her home), but it did finally turn up.
Gheesh and I thought you were traveling with adults. Spoke with my MIL last week who lives in Bradenton. FL (S. of Tampa) and she said the weather all winter has been fabulous, no sweater weather at all.
Two of my teachers (who had flown) were able to take a voluntary bump for a free ticket. I could have too, but the other two teachers needed me to go with them, so I lost out (must be losing my touch! ;) ).
Oh, somehow I doubt that;)

Gotta say, that is one I have never heard before!

Yeah, they all say the same thing.
 Maybe I'd better rethink my choice of careers!
It is sickening - no wonder California is so dang expensive to live in.......

How about the latest trend of choosing the major while still in HS......My poor DS, is still very up in the air and undecided about what direction to go in. The colleges we have spoke with are very supportive of the undeclared and in many cases encourage it for their Freshman, yet the HS staff/counselors are not. They want the path carved out and set.

Well, it was a sad day in our house yesterday, my boys are in mourning;) Dh had to go to work & DS to school this morning and face the "music" (that they have brought upon themselves all football season:rolleyes1 ) We had about 10 friends over and we were equally split in our alliances. We yelled & screamed, moaned and groaned our way thru almost 4 hours of football, oh yeah we ate and drank a lot also:rolleyes: but you all knew that:laughing: We put the beer into the snow bank that was 3 feet up my sliding glass door in the kitchen, it looked like a wine rack:lmao:
I must say that was the best Superbowl game I have watched in a long time.

My favorite commercial was the Lizards who danced to Thriller

DH and I watched that show "House" last night, there was nothing else on. It was actually pretty good.
Our weekend was pretty much taken up with getting ready for the game, watching the game and cleaning up after the game.

Hope all is well in your worlds
Melissa

Well, that's one way to use a snow bank :teeth:.

agnes!

Happy Monday to all!! :goodvibes

Melissa, sorry about the Super Bowl. From where I sit, since I didn't have a dog in the fight since the Packers lost, I thought it was a very good game. The Giants defense was amazing, and David Tyree's catch after Eli Manning scrambled out of coverage to throw it down the field was just tremendous. Poor Tom Brady got chased all over the backfield. We had two invitations to parties, but we elected to stay home. Made killer nachos and had steak and crab legs for dinner. Well worth it!!!

Pam and Agnes - I am sympathetic to your plight about "tracking" kids at such an early age for honors/AP classes. It takes a lot of kids a lot longer to figure things out and trying to prohibit kids from going down a particular path that they want to investigate just seems ridiculous!! Sometimes schools can be such control freaks.

Sheila, I hope that you are still enjoying Orlando. Rest assured, I am still very jealous. :) I hope that you get to spend some quality time with your mom. That was very sweet of your DD to write the thank you note about taking care of Skia. Sometimes they can frustrate the heck of of you, but then turn around and be so loving. I guess they do it to keep us off balance!!

We had a great weekend with DD around. It was hard to let her go back to Boulder yesterday. And then, when she got there, she dropped her cell phone in the toilet!!!!!!!!! :rotfl: So of course it didn't work. So we had her take the battery out, use her blow dryer to dry it all out, and then let it sit overnight. Well, she must be living right, because IT WORKS this morning!!! :thumbsup2

Oh no, just got word that one of my boss's son was killed in an automobile accident last night. :guilty: I don't know the details yet, but he was her youngest and he was in his twenties. Gotta go, will check in later.
