Happy Birthday to your DS today!! And Happy Anniversary on Wednesday. 20 years - that is an accomplishment!!

More good wishes here, Melissa! :thumbsup2

I seem to fall right in the middle with 23 years of marriage! :cheer2:

I was flat on my back sick yesterday, but am feeling much better today. Some sort of intestinal bug - that that is over.

Glad you're feeling better! My bronchitis is gradually clearing up, so I think I'll make it now. That intestinal stuff can be really rough.

We got the Christmas tree out of storage on Sunday and it's up, the lights on, and the garland strung. The ornaments haven't been added yet; hope to get to those today or tomorrow.

DD and BF put our tree up for us while we were gone to Nashville. She and I have very different ideas of what the tree should look like so she likes to do it herself. She prefers the elegant look while I prefer more of a country kind of tree with lots of different kinds of ornaments and colors (I believe she refers to it as "cluttered" :rotfl2: ).

Nice trip to Nashville. Had some minor glitches at check-in but scored four free meals and a $160 credit for the package out of it, so I came out very well in the end! :rotfl2:

DD's roommate got engaged over Thanksgiving. Their families went to Gulf Shores (in Alabama) for the first part of the week. Since they want to get married on the beach, he wanted to propose on the beach. They had beautiful weather, and I think everything went very well (he put a note in a bottle on the beach for her to find - isn't that sweet?).

Two weeks and DD will be done. She has finals next week.

Glad everybody had a good holiday with no catastrophes (the older I get the more I appreciate peacefulness! :rotfl: ).

DD went back to Boulder mid-day Saturday. She had some errands to run up there and had a paper to finish. I miss her like crazy already. :sad2:
But she'll be home in less than a month and we'll all be together on the cruise!!!
I am very excited for you. Where is the cruise going? Have you considered taking Horseshowmom, you would probably end up with an upgrade;)

DS has a lot of homework this week; guess that they are starting the windup for finals right before Winter Break. He was planning on going skiing on Friday but the lack of snow may make him change his mind. We desperately need LOTS more snow up in the mountains, or it may be a tough season for the ski areas.
Our finals are the 2nd week back from break, thus DS hasn't cracked a book in days. ;) We too are really hurting in the snow dept. I hope we get more than last year and I pray we get it soon

Cheater. I am being hauled off into the woods where we will pick out and cut the tree. At some point DD or I will have to go potty:scared1: we are City Girls remember, flushable should never be an option it should be standard equipment. :rolleyes1 I will be checking behind all trees for hidden predators, bears, coyotes, mountain lions and serial killers, remember City Girl:lmao:

maybe that is why we get along, we are all troopers.

So, I was thinking I must be a pretty tough cookie and it seems I keep good company, of course the invention of the martini was not a bad thing!
My thought for the day:

Jr. made it to his 18th B-Day. Knowing now why some species eat their young, I’d say he is pretty lucky.

Sr. made it to our 20th wedding anniversary knowing now why some wives off their spouses, I’d say he is pretty lucky.

I'm with you, love the "clutter" they are a whole assortment of life memories and I would not trade them for all the matching tree accessories in the world.

Ummm, yeah..........Is anyone here surprised? :lmao:

Goosebumps say it all

True enough. :) We are cheap cruisers - we go for the inside cabins deep in the bowels of the ship. No balconies; although if I ever go to Alaska and do a cruise, I hear that's where you really WANT AND NEED a balcony.

The cruise leaves Miami on December 23rd and goes to Belize, Roatan (Honduras) and Grand Cayman. Best of all, there are 3 days at sea where all I have to do is eat and sleep!!!!

We got a bit of snow this morning; hopefully more up in the higher elevations.

DS has finals December 18th-20th. We fly to Florida on the 21st. The cruise leaves on the 23rd. DS has been having quite a bit of homework lately. Keeps him out of trouble. :)

Darn right, I'm a cheater. I can't stand cleaning up loose pine needles and dealing with water on the carpet. DH would love a real tree, but since he wouldn't be the one watering it or cleaning up after it, there's no way he's getting one!!!! :lmao: Maybe with his next wife. :rotfl2:

:scared: Glad you are feeling better
Thanks. It was a very cruddy feeling, but amazing what a day of rest can do.

ALMOST FORGOT - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!

So what are you doing to celebrate? (that you can tell us!!)

Alaska is my dream vacation. I would love to do one of the cruise/rail tours.....

Sounds just heavenly! Have you ever been in that area before? What type if any excursions are you going to do. I would love to go on a cruise but DH is adamant that he won't leave the U.S. (I never said he was reasonable or rational)

Thank you. It really was quite romantic, DH has some sort of stomach bug and has been in the bathroom since early Tuesday morning  (he has been ordered to call his Dr. this morning since I have had it with him:headache: ) So, I took DS to get new shoes & picked up a couple of Christmas presents. While at the mall DH calls, he wants me to pick up liquid Amodium since he thinks it might work better than the pills I got him the night before (same drug, didn't work any better, but he was not listening) he also wanted wipes, the baby wipes we had at home were not good enough.:sad2: So, I stopped at the drug store to get DH all his stuff, went home cooked dinner, cleaned up, fluffed his pillows, left again to get him some 7-Up etc........went to the neighbors and had a beer, okay I had 2:lmao: . Happy Anniversary to me:rolleyes1

This morning he just called, he doesn't think he can drive DD to school, it is literally a 5 minute round trip drive..........He is such a baby! He wanted me to come home from work and drive her to school:eek: . Since I have been putting up with his whinning for 3 days, I declined, told him to suck it up. When I was getting ready for work, not once during that hour did he get out of bed to go to the bathroom, I am sure he can sort out 5 minutes.

I'm a little out of patience, does it show:lmao: :lmao:

Hey, remember I live out in the woods! ;)

I would love to go on a cruise. I never have, but my parents do regularly (in fact, they're on one right now). Mother gets them for incredible discount prices a few weeks out (which helps out when you're retired). I think there are 9 couples that went this time. They are retired in central FL, so they can get to the port pretty easily. I'm going to have to give it a try one of these days.

We used to, but they just aggravated our allergies (which don't need anymore aggravation ;) ).

Maybe with his next wife. :rotfl2:

The next couple of months are going to be interesting for me. We had a new Supt. elected (honestly, the current one needed to go even though it was in my best interest that he stay). Since I serve at the Supt.'s pleasure, who knows what may happen with my job. Fortunately, the school board is very fond of me (due to some of the positive changes I've tried to implement), but who knows.

Now, I'm starting to wonder about the new one. He's (we're :rolleyes1 ) paying an efficiency firm $25,000 to come in from out of state. When are they coming? Would you believe the week leading up to semester exams? Anybody who has spent anytime in school should know that that's not a fair time to judge teachers (and he's a principal from another district) and schools.

I could understand if he did it when we got back from the holidays, but he wants the results before he takes office in January. I just don't see that he's going to get much from the results. (BTW, the state dept. of education would have done the study for him and not charged anything. ).

Then when YOU go, he can stay on the ship!!!

We haven't been to those regions before. We have been to the Yucatan peninsula (Playa Del Carmen) three times before, and we did a Southern Caribbean cruise a number of years ago that went to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, St. Lucia, Antigua, and Barbados.

On this trip, we are doing cave tubing and ziplining in Belize, snorkeling and touring on Roatan, and swimming with the stingrays and snorkeling in Grand Cayman. I just finished making those arrangements earlier this week - we try and go with local vendors that the folks on cruisecritic.com speak highly of. You usually pay a lot less $$$ and have a lot less people on the excursions.

Sorry that your DH was sick on your anniversary. Had to laugh about him wanting you to drive home to take your DD to school. Wouldn't have happened here either!!!

Well, back to work!!!

You should give it a try. They are a lot of fun and you only have to unpack once, which is a nice thing. The only downside for us is that you usually only get one day to explore a destination/island, and that's hardly long enough to get the "feel" of a place. That's why I try and plan the excursions ahead to maximize our experience and not waste time figuring out what we're going to do.

The food is usually pretty darned good. I have heard that one of the specialities on THIS ship is the warm melting chocolate cake. I'm definitely going to have to try this!!! Of course, now that I'm trying to LOSE weight, thinking about what I'm going to eat to put it all back on is probably not such a great idea.

I am still using that darned eliptical, although I can't really say that the two of us are "friends"!!:rotfl:

I think his main issue may be that he's young (under 30) and wants to make a name for himself. I think he's a good guy and is actually a really good role model for a lot of our kids, but I question the judgement of spending $25,000 to observe the week leading up to exams.

Happy Monday (if there is such a thing!!) :lmao:

Hope that you all had a great weekend. DS went skiing on Friday. Had a good time, but they definitely needed more snow - which they fortunately got on Saturday AFTER he got back home (We were glad he wasn't driving in bad weather!!)

Went out for dinner with friends on Friday night, ran a few errands on Saturday, and went looking for Christmas ideas yesterday. DS seems to want everything this year!! Including a new gaming system, which we are NOT going to buy him!! Since we're doing the cruise, we are scaling back to a degree this Christmas.

Working from home this week, so I have no excuse to not go downstairs and use the eliptical this week. I'm also going to go tan later today so that I don't look like a beached whale on the cruise!!

Well, that's about it for now. Check in when you have a minute and have a great day!!! :goodvibes

With age comes wisdom. I really hate when that comes into play:rolleyes: I agree, it seems kinda silly to spend that kind of money when there are other alternatives. Sounds like he is out to prove something and someone needs to whisper in his ear that his actions may come back to bite him.

Hope it all works out and that you stay employed.

Mmmmm, snow skiing - it sounds wonderful. DD has been snowboarding a couple of times and really enjoyed it (but said it was very hard and thought she'd try skiing next time).

We had a nice quiet weekend. We went to Logan's for dinner Friday night, and it was absolutely wonderful (the best meal out I've had in a long time).

DD has finals this week and will be home Friday afternoon. She's going to get quite a surprise for Christmas. I talked to BF's mother last night, and she asked whether it would be okay with us if she gave Cisco (the horse we discussed awhile back) to DD.

He didn't work out with the people who tried him, and it seems she has sold several others in the meantime which improved her bottom line in the horse business dramatically (she doesn't take family money or her work money for her horse business - it has to support itself separately).

She said that she honestly feels that Cisco is going to be a one person horse, and the person he's picked is DD. I told her that I think that he's much too expensive of a gift, but she insists that she wants her to have him, so I discussed it with DH and then told her that DD could have him.

(DH liked it better when the numbers were going down instead of up though! :rotfl: He first said, "This is going to cost me money." I told him that DD pays for almost all of her own expenses (uses scholarship money and part-time work) and never asks for a penny from us. I don't know of anybody whose college aged child costs lest than ours does, so the "cost me money" deal wasn't going to fly. Since he's the one who has to take care of them, that excuse I could understand, but NOT the money. He was a little sheepish and agreed that I was right. )

It happens that we'd bought enough hay for 5 horses for the winter and then had to have Annie put down (which moved us down to 4 horses). I guess Cisco will fit right back in.

BF's mother is going to put a big red bow around his neck and give him to her. She's going to faint. I told her that she'll have to tell DD that she's already talked to us because DD will be thinking that her daddy is going to kill her! :rotfl2:

Yeah, me too! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

The way he's started out, I don't think there is any way that he'll be re-elected in 4 years. He really is a nice guy (I actually voted for him), but he doesn't seem to be using good judgement. He's already sending out memos as the Supt. of Education. I could see SoE-elect, but that's not what he's doing.

We'll just have to see what happens, I guess.

Only when it is a paid holiday - and I'm not talking about those holidays that only teachers and government workers get. :lmao:

True enough!! :thumbsup2

Horseshowmom, your DD is going to FLIP when she finds out about the horse. What a nice gesture by BF's mother. :)

Hope that you all had a great weekend. DS went skiing on Friday. Had a good time, but they definitely needed more snow - which they fortunately got on Saturday AFTER he got back home (We were glad he wasn't driving in bad weather!!)
Same system that blew thru here Friday morning. We got about an inch but it was gone by the time I drove home. The only snow the resorts have is the snow they are making. I worry that it is going to be another very dry year.

DS seems to want everything this year!! Including a new gaming system, which we are NOT going to buy him!!
Must be the age, DS is the same. We did get the new gaming system Xbox 360 for his B-Day.(1st one we have ever bought, he bought his first Xbox himself) On Friday he e-mailed me his wish list:eek: "Yeah right" was my response.
I am looking for Guitar Hero III with the wireless guitar. We are going to get 2 guitars for the kids and a UNR sweatshirt for DS. Every year I try to put the brakes on and every year DH goes nuts. He likes to see lots of stuff under the tree for the kids and I like the stockings the most. . DD is all about Little Pet Shop, DS games and books.
Working from home this week, so I have no excuse to not go downstairs and use the eliptical this week.
Just think if you go up and down the stairs to the eliptical several times a day for short workouts, it would be a stairmaster and eliptical workout;) Which means on those 3 days where you are out to sea, you can eat without guilt:goodvibes

Not much going on here. We headed up into the woods on Saturday for the tree. Found the "perfect" tree and hauled it home. It was 25 degrees with a breeze, we about froze but had a lot of fun. We were with the same family we go to the hotel with at Thanksgiving.

TreeZilla 2007 (11' Noble Fir) made it's way into the house last night and DH put all the lights on (white and colored). We have an Angel that goes on top, she was a wedding gift, so she is celebrating her anniversary also. DH always does the lights, DS puts the Angel on and the kids and I do the ornaments, which usually take 2 evenings because we have so many. We also drink Baileys Irish Cream during the process, it is a tradition. DD announced last night that she wanted to do the Angel (she always stands behind her brother on the ladder for the picture). We told her that it was his job and when he moves out she will get to take over........The wheels began turning in her head, I think she was mentally packing his stuff:rolleyes1

DS's girlfriend came over Friday night and after dinner she cleaned his room.:cool1: Now, his room was disgusting, I forgot he had carpet or even a dresser and the bed itself looked like a K-Mart clearance table during a blue light special! She did a great job and he found all sorts of things he thought he lost including his treasured Boston Red Sox hat. His desk has cubbies and things are neatly organized in the cubbies! Meanwhile, we were all wondering what it would take for her to take on the den or my master bedroom closet:rolleyes1 He got up Saturday morning and made his bed :scared: :scared1: :scared: before he left to go get her for the tree hunt.

Horseshowmom: Have you whipped the newbie youngin into shape yet?

That is about it here, hope you all enjoy your week
