Horseshowmom:
What a wonderful gift. Sounds like the horse will be staying in the family ultimatly and I think that was a wonderful gesture on the future MIL's part. Your poor DD will feel even worse about her little fit.;)

Your DD needs to give my DS a lesson on how to go to college and not cost ME anything! I really like that idea.

My DH's always act like he likes it when the animal numbers are going down, but deep down he is even sappier than I am. My DH was caught trying to coax Deck'ster into the house on Saturday morning:rolleyes: Deck'ster still will not let us touch him, but we have put some meat on his bones and he huddles up to the sliding glass door when it is cold. We have tried letting him in, if he will even come in it is literally for a second and if we close the door he panics and meows nonstop until we open it for him. DH needs to build him some sort of house for the winter.

Snowboarding: My DS tried it a couple of times after he learned to ski and just never got the hang of it. He said he spent the entire day on his butt.

Sounds like your new Superintendent needs a lesson in tact and diplomacy. Hopefully he will get the message sooner rather than later.

TreeZilla 2007 (11' Noble Fir) made it's way into the house last night and DH put all the lights on (white and colored). We have an Angel that goes on top, she was a wedding gift, so she is celebrating her anniversary also. DH always does the lights, DS puts the Angel on and the kids and I do the ornaments, which usually take 2 evenings because we have so many.

It sounds absolutely beautiful!

DS's girlfriend came over Friday night and after dinner she cleaned his room.:cool1: Now, his room was disgusting, I forgot he had carpet or even a dresser and the bed itself looked like a K-Mart clearance table during a blue light special! She did a great job and he found all sorts of things he thought he lost including his treasured Boston Red Sox hat. His desk has cubbies and things are neatly organized in the cubbies! Meanwhile, we were all wondering what it would take for her to take on the den or my master bedroom closet:rolleyes1 He got up Saturday morning and made his bed :scared: :scared1: :scared: before he left to go get her for the tree hunt.

She sounds wonderful! :woohoo: She might be worth adopting if they break up (I might adopt her myself! :thumbsup2 ).

:rotfl2: We mothers must all think alike, because I thought the same thing! :lmao:

I'm glad Deck'ster is improving. His nerves just get the best of him inside, I guess (afraid of being trapped, I'm sure), but he's well fed and can get some heat from the door.

My DH is like yours too. We went to PetSmart after dinner Friday night and got some things. I sent him to check out while I went to the restroom. I always add the $1 for homeless animals that the cashier asks about, but I didn't figure he would (figured he considers us a unofficial animal shelter ;) ), but when I looked at he rec't later, he had. I was glad (he's not as bad as he likes to seem ;) ).

Fortunately, a lot of that has been because she has gotten such large scholarships. Pretty much all we pay is the payment and insurance on her car. We got a bargain on her car by buying it from an elderly lady my mother new when DD graduated in '05 (it was a '03 Malibu with 30,000 miles for $7500), so the note isn't even that much.

I'm actually spending more on her for Christmas than I usually do, because she doesn't ever ask for money. Her ticket to Orlando was part of it, and while we were near the Gap Outlet stores, she got about $275 worth of new clothes. While we were in Nashville, I found her a really pretty North Face jacket that I think she's going to love (had a good coupon for that store ;)). She's also getting a digital camera.

I'm like you and love stockings. Last year, I found the two of them "sort of" matching stockings. They were at TSC (Tractor Supply Company - I'm sure y'all don't shop there, but you may have seen their commercials ;)) and are shaped and decorated like western boots (just different styles). This year, hers has gift cards in it for Subway, Wal-Mart, and Chili's. They're tied to a ribbon, so they'll come out as she pulls the ribbon. ;) I'll also put in some little things like flavored lip balm, etc. I'm putting a new wallet in his with gift cards in it for Olive Garden, a gas card, and a Malco (movie) gift card. I'm also putting in a couple of new computer programs that will be good for his Agriculture class (John Deere's "American Farmer" and "North American Farmer". And lastly, a new long sleeved National FFA "Ag. Dept" t-shirt (kind of like those athletic dept. shirts you see). His stocking should be pretty full by the time I get it all in there! ;)

She sounds wonderful! :woohoo: She might be worth adopting if they break up (I might adopt her myself! :thumbsup2 ).
She is pretty cool, it is her family that leaves a lot to be desired
:rotfl2: We mothers must all think alike, because I thought the same thing! :lmao:
Another one of those little life lessons we warn them about but they don't believe us
figured he considers us a unofficial animal shelter ;) ),

I know who they are ;) and you assumed correctly, I don't shop there:lmao: I did however find a FFA sweatshirt in my car the other day.:confused3 I think it belongs to DS's sweetie, it certainly doesn't pertain to us.;) Goes along with the 6 pigs, 2 horses, 5 dogs and I don't know how many cats she has in her back yard!

I love all your stocking ideas and the ribbon idea is great!

So far I have picked up real metal slinkies for all the stockings. I found them on my trip to Oregon and DS just had to have one. I then bought 6 more for all the asst. kids and the stockings. I also have some magnetic earrings and a new Webkinz for DD. DS is harder, he gets gift cards, cologne etc.

Question of the day:

Is there something that is a tradition that you always put in stockings?
Just curious

I have always put a whole bag of Hersheys Kisses and Hersheys Miniatures into DH's stocking.

The Kids always get a new toothbrush & toothpaste

They usually get Starbucks gift cards and I'm also adding Starbucks portable mugs this year. I usually do lip balm, pocket knives (we always lose those around here), small flashlights, earrings (for DD), manicure sets (we are always fighting for tweezers!), pens, mechanical pencils, tic tacs, dark chocolate, and their favorite candy.

Just came back from our Holiday luncheon at work. I am stuffed and will fight with the eliptical trainer this afternoon to try and work some of it off!!!!

Have a great day, ladies. I need to get back to work. :goodvibes

I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess I do always put lip balm (I usually get the Avon that's decorated for Christmas and only costs 69 cents :thumbsup2 ) and Hershey's kisses in the stockings.

Hey, I resemble that remark (well, except for the pigs, thank goodness! :rotfl2: )! :goodvibes

Sandy, lunch sounds like it was great! Unfortunately, I didn't get lunch today due to a visit with a USDA officer (nice guy and good visit, but I didn't get lunch). :sad2: I think I'll go get some dinner right now! :thumbsup2

Hey Girls!

I feel a little negligent, it has been a busy week and I have done more lurking than posting.

DD had to have a little growth on the bridge of her nose removed yesterday. Last time, they just zapped it with a laser, it grew back. So, yesterday the Dr. cut it out and she has 3 stitches on her nose. The cutting/stitches were totally unexpected and in a way I am glad we didn't know in advance, she was anxious enough. So, last night she couldn't help her brother with dishes because of her nose, same excuse for shower, pick up room & go to bed:lmao: can I just say princess:

Woke this morning to 5" of snow, a 1 hour school delay:headache: and no power at my office or the high school. Power is back and I am racing to get payroll done

Tonight is Martini Friday at my friends house, :drinking1 tomorrow is DH's Christmas party :drinking1 (oh yipee, dinner with a bunch of nerdy geeks!:lmao: ) they are really nice people, I just don't get their jokes and they don't get mine:rotfl2: Plus, just between you and me, they dress funny:lmao:

Sunday, supposed to go to Truckee, CA for some Christmas shopping, weather depending. Jammies are looking better and better

The tree is up and decorated, the lights are on the house and there is plenty of Baileys Irish Cream in the fridge..............Let the Christmas Festivities begin!:dance3: :dancer: :drinking1

Hope you all have a great weekend

Oh, BTW, the Senior class nominations are done, the winners have been picked. DS was voted the "Loudest" Senior! None of us were surprised! For the yearbook picture he found his "Loud & Proud" t-shirt and is wearing it.

Yeah, that would probably have worked out best for us too (even with DD being 20! :rotfl2: ). That needle phobia of DD's would have had her in a panic for sure. I hope she's better soon and that everything heals up okay.

Woke this morning to 5" of snow

WOW! It's in the 50-60's here (supposed to be lower 70's this weekend). I would love to see some snow. Somebody posted a thread talking about going somewhere with some snow for Christmas. It started me thinking about planning a Christmas trip sometime over the next 2 or 3 years to somewhere with lots of snow and fun activities. Posters listed several nice options! :thumbsup2

Now, that is tooooo funny (that he even had the t-shirt to start with and how well it fits with his "title")! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

DD should be almost home. She finished up her last exam this morning and got everything packed up. She called and asked me to pray for a girl in her class named Bonnie. DD was in the office picking up some paperwork that she needed, and the girl came rushing in. DD said she noticed that she looked a little odd but thought she just didn't have any make-up on.

The girl rushed down the hall to where Dr. Wilson (one of the pharmacy school deans) was standing and literally burst into tears. When he questioned her as to what was wrong, she told him through sobs that she had missed her exam that morning. DD said the girl was in her pajamas, so she must have woke up, realized what time it was, and ran to the pharmacy building (this was about noon).

Dr. Wilson told her that she was going to have to try to find the professor and talk to him to see if she could make it up (keep in mind that this is Friday and the last day of exams - since this exam was at 8 a.m. this morning, he may not even be there). DD said that there is no way the girl can pass if she doesn't take the final in that particular class. She said that this girl is a regular entry student who got in this time after applying 2 or 3 times before and is a really nice girl.

DD felt awful for her. Of course, she has no idea but guessed she stayed up all night studying and fell asleep without setting her clock. If she fails the class, she's out of pharmacy school. Wouldn't make for a very good Christmas. :guilty:

Keep a good thought for her...

Good Afternoon, ladies.

I, too, have been lurking more than posting this week. I actually took a few hours off from work to get some personal stuff done and I am back on here for a short while and then gone again! I promise to be better next week!

Melissa, I hope your DD heals quickly. I laughed when I read about your DS being voted "the loudest". How funny. Have fun with your martinis tonight and the party tomorrow night!!

Horseshowmom, I bet you are glad that your DD will be home soon! DD doesn't get home until the 20th and we leave for the cruise on the 21st. Cutting it close, don't you say?!?!!?

That poor girl - I hope she gets to take the exam!! :scared1:

Well, my "stuff" isn't going to get done unless I do it, so I'm off again. I hope that both of you have a great weekend!!!!

Good Morning Girls - hope you all had nice weekends. The martini's were great, the Christmas party with DH's co-workers was as expected:lmao: and we had a good time. It snowed here again on Saturday night and took us forever to get to the party but it was fun. Being the big partiers we are, we were home by 10:30:laughing:

I just got back from a 2 hour journey for a Christmas present for DS - been trying to get our hands on a Guitar Hero III for Xbox 360 for almost a month.

Finally! I GOT IT!!!!

Found the only Guitar Hero III in N. Nevada, had to drive to Carson City(50 miles). We have been calling the Game Stops every morning, there are like 8 stores from here to Lake Tahoe.

The store down there got 1 in this morning, he agreed to hold for 2 hours.

I went straight down there and he said in the hour it took me to get there they got 7 calls for it and 3 more while I was standing there! Whew!

SCORE!

Horseshowmom:
Is DD home for break now?
How did the poor girl make out with the missed test? Poor thing, it would be such a shame to throw it all away after oversleeping for 1 test.

Sandy:
Are you all tanned, packed and ready to go yet?:laughing:You and the eliptical trainer still speaking?

Well, girls now that I took an extended break this morning, I must get back to work.

Hey Pam, pop in and say hi!

Have a good day

I would have to say that you (and your DS ;) ) were very fortunate! Congratulations on the find!

DD hasn't checked with her yet. We had a busy weekend. Went into Memphis for the Singing Christmas Tree and dinner on Saturday afternoon/evening. Yesterday, I had to work after church, and DD went to help BF get his fruit orders straightened out! :rotfl2: His FFA sells fruit as a fundraiser at Christmas, so she made him a spreadsheet to help him better see who sold what and how much they owed. They sold almost $25,000 worth. Keep in mind that this is a very small school.

DD is spending her first day working in a pharmacy today. They have to do 80 hours while they're out for the Christmas holiday, so she'll work 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. M-F for the next two weeks. They had told her that she'd be watching, but she's been doing the same things as a pharmacy tech today (which is legal since she has her extern license). She called me at lunch and said it was going well and the morning had gone very quickly.

As an aside, she had a nice twist of fate. At dinner Saturday night (after the Singing Christmas tree), our pastor was sitting next to me, and we were talking about her starting this today. He asked where she was going to be, and I told him. Coincidentally, his sister works there part-time and was there today. When DD got there, the sister told her that he had called her this morning to tell her to take good care of DD. I thought that was really sweet!

It's looking more and more like my job is gone. Even worse, I had a back-up job in mind to take the place of somebody who I knew was retiring at the Vo-Tech. I talked to him today and found out that he's changed his mind. :headache: I am determined that I'm not going to start worrying about this, but I am getting a little discouraged.:o

Do they gift box or what? How in the world do they sell that quantity of fruit and where do they get the fruit?

so much for "break";) that was sweet of your Pastor. Always hard to be the "Newbie"

  Oh no, does this all tie in with the new Supt? That stinks! Keeping you in my prayers. Something better will come along

Congratulations on the Guitar Hero score!!!!! Talk about being persistent!! :thumbsup2

Sounds like your social life went well this weekend and you didn't suffer too much at the hands of engineers!! :lmao:

I am tanning, trying to watch what I put in my mouth, and YES, I am speaking to the eliptical. In fact, I was down using it when you and Horseshowmom just posted. 63 minutes, 710 calories, and 3 miles!!! But, as you can imagine, I am not very attractive at the moment. I am sweating like a pig, I stink to high heaven, and my hair is a mess. All this struggle for a little eventual "beauty"!!

DS and I finished putting up the Christmas lights outdoors (we don't do much, just one evergreen tree outside and the pillars on the front of our house) and finished putting the ornaments on the tree as well.

Yesterday we went skiing at Vail. It was wonderful. We were supposed to go on Saturday, but they were getting quite a bit of snow late Friday and the roads weren't so hot, so we waited a day. That turned out to be a smart move, as I talked with a local in one of the lift lines yesterday and he said that Saturday was very cold and it was very crowded with long lift lines.

The only challenge is that there was a lot of "powder" (fresh snow) to ski on and I'm not very good at that!! Guess I need more experience (and coordination!!)

Well, DS just called and he needs me to do something with his lacrosse stuff. So I'm out the door!!

Well, just popped in and now I have to pop back out again!!!

Do they gift box or what? How in the world do they sell that quantity of fruit and where do they get the fruit?

I'm not sure where they get it, but I know that all of the FFA's used to do it (we don't even have a FFA in our district anymore). They sold that and cheese blocks for delivery before school gets out for Christmas (my cousin used to be an Ag. teacher, now he works for the Extension Service). BF's group had everything from tangelos to grapefruits, and it's really good quality fruit for very reasonble prices (not marked up like a lot of fundraiser stuff is). It's their main fundraiser to fund activities. They don't do the cheese though, just the fruit.

  Oh no, does this all tie in with the new Supt? That stinks! Keeping you in my prayers. Something better will come along

Yeah, I'm afraid so. I won't be the only person to go, but that doesn't help much. My contract is through June 30th but after that is up in the air. If worst comes to worst, I can probably go back in the classroom, but my salary will be more than $10,000. Of course, the plus side to that was that I always wound up working a lot during the summer when I really wasn't on contract time. I wouldn't have to do that anymore.

DH is really annoyed. He said that if I don't have a job, he won't work here either. As a National Board certified male elementary teacher with very high test scores (his 4th graders last year scored higher on the state test than the 5th graders did at his school ;) ), he would be welcome anywhere and a real loss to the district. I've also implemented a lot of programs that have been met with high regard, and I'm popular with the school board, but ultimately, he's the supt. and has his own agenda.

It will all work out somehow though (is there a fingers crossed smilie?)!

In January, our church is going to do a "Biggest Losers" program as a New Year's resolution (get in teams). DH laughed and told our pastor, "You realize that people are going to say our church is full of losers, don't you?" :rotfl2:

I told DH that I really need to lose weight anyway. I can guess I can just stop eating!

I hope that you have a very enjoyable time with your DD home for the holidays.

I don't know who's happier to have her home - us or her cat! :rotfl:

I don't know who's happier to have her home - us or her cat! :rotfl:
Certainly NOT Chachi!!!! :rotfl2:

Well, we have no school here today, as the snow started last night and is still coming down this morning. DS was supposed to have a 2-hour delayed start, but when I just checked the website a few minutes ago, they changed it to a full day closure. Poor DS, he was SO disappointed when I gave him the news!! :lmao:

So here I am, working in my bathrobe and slippers at the moment. Will be putting on my exercise gear later in the morning to go fight with the eliptical. I have a nail appointment later today. Good thing - they are getting so long that they are driving me nuts when I hit them on the keyboard!!

Tundra is downstairs snoring on the family room rug - I can hear her from upstairs!!!

DD starts taking her first final on Thursday, although the official finals don't start until Saturday. She is really looking forward to getting them done and we are really looking forward to having her here with us!!!

Well ladies, I gotta get back to work. Have a good day!!!!

Things are looking bleaker and bleaker around here. The school board meeting last night was a real eye opener. The young man who will become the new superintendent in January made sure he had the place filled with his supporters (who were very vocal). He basically threatened the school board with legal action if they didn't pay him as much as the former Supt. was making (after having been Supt. almost 20 years  ). He told them that they couldn't pay him what he was worth (yep, that's what he said), but that he expected to be paid as much as the outgoing one. He addressed what he considers to be "inflated" salaries, but that apparently didn't include his.

He also basically said that the entire school district from the board on down to the janitors was corrupt and that he was going to straighten it out. He says he's the man for the job because he hasn't stayed anywhere very long because no matter where he's been he's shined so much that he went on to bigger things (yep, he said that too).

Two of our schools are ranked very highly. He dismissed that and said it was because they were illegally testing students on the wrong grade level (no, that hasn't happened :sad2: ). He's going to straighten that out too.

He said a lot more that was highly inflammatory, but I won't go into all of it. It didn't really matter whether what he said was based on fact or not, his room full of supporters ate it up and egged him on.

I went home with a sick feeling. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that my job is gone (he also discussed how he was going to surround himself with loyal supporters  ), but that's not what really bothers me. What bothers me is how he portrayed a school district with teachers who work very hard to serve the students and the community as a bunch of bigoted, money hungry, useless individuals. These are the people who have worked so hard to raise our test scores when over 90% of our students are considered to be below poverty level. We actually received a national award a few years ago because of our success.

My contract will be up on June 30th. I don't know if I can stand it that long. DH is furious and will go too. That's a real shame.

I am so sorry about the entire situation. This guy sounds like a real jerk. You would definitely be better off NOT working for him. What an ego!!! I wonder how long he'll be around before there's a recall effort?

Hang in there!!!

Thanks, I appreciate it. Ego is certainly right. I just thought I knew what arrogance looked like up until last night. Now I know for sure. :scared:

I know, I know I am behind again! Super busy, I am the accounting dept., the end of the year is approaching:scared1: , we manufacture and that means the I word, yes, ladies the very ugly, never done right, I always have to re-instruct the purchasing & control depts. I word.
I=Inventory!!!
Certainly NOT Chachi!!!! :rotfl2:
I was thinking the same thing:lmao:
Well, we have no school here today, as the snow started last night and is still coming down this morning. DS was supposed to have a 2-hour delayed start, but when I just checked the website a few minutes ago, they changed it to a full day closure. Poor DS, he was SO disappointed when I gave him the news!! :lmao:
Snow days are great..........until................it is early June and the kids are stuck in school extra days to make them up:laughing:
How much snow did you get?
We still have ours from last week, this whole week has been burrrrr cold. 18 an hour ago, and currently 22 whoopie!
Tundra is downstairs snoring on the family room rug - I can hear her from upstairs!!!
Ahh, yes, the lovely Tundra, we have not heard much from her lately.............
DD starts taking her first final on Thursday, although the official finals don't start until Saturday. She is really looking forward to getting them done and we are really looking forward to having her here with us!!!
good luck wishes going her way

Things are looking bleaker and bleaker around here. The school board meeting last night was a real eye opener. The young man who will become the new superintendent in January made sure he had the place filled with his supporters (who were very vocal).
oh no, this doesn't sound good
He basically threatened the school board with legal action if they didn't pay him as much as the former Supt. was making (after having been Supt. almost 20 years  ). He told them that they couldn't pay him what he was worth (yep, that's what he said), but that he expected to be paid as much as the outgoing one. He addressed what he considers to be "inflated" salaries, but that apparently didn't include his.
He ran for the position right? Was there a published salary?

He says he's the man for the job because he hasn't stayed anywhere very long because no matter where he's been he's shined so much that he went on to bigger things (yep, he said that too).
Hummmm, sounds fishy to me......have you Googled him or has anyone checked his "references"?

Two of our schools are ranked very highly. He dismissed that and said it was because they were illegally testing students on the wrong grade level (no, that hasn't happened :sad2: ). He's going to straighten that out too. He said a lot more that was highly inflammatory, but I won't go into all of it. It didn't really matter whether what he said was based on fact or not, his room full of supporters ate it up and egged him on.
Oh dear, what an idiot - time for the "non-vocals" to rally the troops and prove this idiot wrong.

I am so sorry, this situation seems really bad. However, experience has taught me that while people like this "shine" in the short term, it doesn't take them long to fall out of favor. One can only fix non-existent problems for so long.
Is this idiot a local or did he kinda come out of nowhere?

What will you and DH do if you both quit, are there other districts in your area?
