Good Morning - sorry for being absent it has just been a crazy, busy week and our computers are moving at a snail pace. Trying to get online is a challenge in itself - our puter geek is coming today after lunch.

Horseshowmom: I hope your week improved and that you have a great weekend.

Sandy: Have a wonderful weekend and don't move any more furniture, that is why we put up with hubbys and teenage sons!

It must be something in the air Sandy, DH, DS and I have an appt. with DS's AP Bio teacher today........No updates on Edline in a month, then whammo, 1 test of which DS got an F. Upon further review 21 of 25 kids received an F and the 4 who passed did so with D's :sad2:
No homework or labs in the last month to balance this out either. I guess several of the kids (not mine for once:rolleyes: )challenged the teacher and at this point the teacher has taken a stand and no one is winning. DS had this same teacher as a Freshman and they got along just fine, so we don't have a personality issue. We are going to approach the teacher and see if we can come up with a plan to bring DS up to speed since he feels lost. DS wants to drop the class but since we don't think he has put his best effort into it we are going to make him give it a good try before we will let him drop it.

DD is off to the Father Daughter Princess Ball tomorrow - we have hair & nail appts. with 2 of her friends at the beauty school (hey, can't beat $15 for an updo and a manicure;) ) pick up her corsage/bout and the dress I took to the cleaners to have pressed and poofed(the petticoat) DS is heading to N. California with his Sweetie for her Mothers B-Day party (they are spending the night up there) which means..........After DH leaves with DD I am going to have the house to my self for at least 3 hours! I can't even remember when that happened! I don't know what I am going to do.....I have a really good bottle of wine and I am thinking a good chick flick might be in order.

Hope you have a great weekend

What is everyones plans for Thanksgiving?

Will do. Although the machine now looks SO MUCH BETTER in the new location.

Ack. I'm so sorry that you're having Biology Teacher problems. I hope you can get things ironed out. Again, like our situation, if no one gets above a "D", then it's a teacher failure!!

DS is doing better with his Biology teacher. He's always liked the guy, but sure as heck don't know why he was so onery. Seems to be better now. DS has a solid "B" in there, so that's okay.

He originally thought that the AP Calculus teacher didn't like him, but has since changed his mind and thinks she's okay now. Got a solid "B" there now as well, so things are good.

The only bizarre teacher is that World Geography one, who inserts her political views in everything. They're studying Mexico now, and she's very sympathetic to the illegial Mexican immigrants. Now, politics is a very personal thing and I don't happen to care what most people's political viewpoints are, but when you're in a position of authority and you get to stand in front of a bunch of 15-18 year olds and tell them your version of the "truth" without allowing opposing viewpoints, I become Mama Bear. She handed out two differing opinion pieces regarding immigration. The one that opposed hers was poorly written and very short, which "her" position's piece was over two pages long. It hacks me off, but DS says not to bother - that the teacher is starting to get pushback from the kids in class and they can handle the situation. I'll do what he wants, but I really want to say something!! Somebody find me a muzzle . . .

I hope that your DD and DH have a wonderful time at the Father Daughter Princess Ball. It sounds like a great occasion. Take lots of pictures!!!

I hope your DS and his sweetie have a good time and a safe trip as well.

3 hours of alone time?!?!!?!?! I wouldn't know what to do with myself!! The wine sounds wonderful!!

Hope you have a great weekend

What is everyones plans for Thanksgiving?
You have a good weekend too. We're going out with friends to celebrate a birthday tonight, and then maybe going out with another couple tomorrow night. DD will come home from college tomorrow morning - she has Fall Break for all of Thanksgiving week!!! It will be very nice to have her home. DS is also home from school for all of next week. Hopefully DS and DD won't kill each other by the end of break!!

We're hosting Thanksgiving with just our family and a friend and her daughter (DD's age). We've been friends for years, and her DH and younger DD will be in San Diego for a soccer tournament.

I'm doing the turkey, potatoes (3 different kinds; I have kids that have to have certain types of potatoes EACH for Thanksgiving), stuffing, gravy, rolls, corn, and pumpkin pie.

She's doing sweet potatoes, jello salad, apple pie, and green bean casserole.

I think we'll have more than enough to eat!!!!

Well, gotta get back to work. Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

I tend to agree with Sandy. 21 F's and 4 D's indicates that there are some problems there. Good luck with the visit today.

That sounds really neat. I know my own DD would have loved it.

Hope they have a safe trip and that you thoroughly enjoy your time alone! :thumbsup2

What is everyones plans for Thanksgiving?

We go out to eat for Thanksgiving and then go to a movie afterwards. We've been doing this for several years now, and it works well for us. My parents are in FL, and DH's parents don't get the family together for Thanksgiving (she always said that her boys hunted, so she wasn't going to worry about it  ). The reality is that there's some stress involved with activities that take place on that side of the family, so we really enjoy doing our own thing best.

DD's BF always goes with us, and then they eat at his grandmother's the next evening. Most of his family gets together on Thanksgiving at his grandmother's, but he and DD go there for the family Christmas Eve gathering every year and skip the one at DH's mother's (DD would rather skip that one anyway ;) ).

I think you're right concerning the food, and I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Regardless of the problems that we have pop up from time to time, I know that we all have a lot to be thankful for. :thumbsup2

That sounds very nice. I think we're going to try and go to a movie in the evening after Thanksgiving Dinner, just the four of us. We have done dinner at the Broadmoor Hotel here in Colorado Springs and that was wonderful. Nice to not have to cook and clean up, but I miss the leftovers.

Hey!!! I resemble that remark. ;) Probably true enough!!

We're all off next week too! I really need it this year.
I have to work Monday and Tuesday, but I'm taking Wednesday off. We always get Thursday and Friday off, so I'm looking forward to some family time.

I am thankful that I have 2 new friends this year:goodvibes :grouphug:
Me too!!!! :grouphug:

I LOVE leftovers, but DH won't touch them, so when I used to cook for Thanksgiving, we wound up with me eating too much of them "so they wouldn't go to waste" (went to my "waist" instead :rotfl2: ).

Eating out works out best (but I do still miss those leftovers myself! ;) ).

Absolutely I agree 100% - I am thankful that I have 2 new friends this year:goodvibes :grouphug:

Me too!!!! :grouphug:

Same here ladies! It's almost too funny how often I mention you in conversations at home. I think DH and DD used to think it was a little strange, but now they accept it as being perfectly normal! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Have a wonderful holiday! :grouphug:

I had the same initial reaction from DH and the kids. They would ask, "How well can you get to know someone on the computer?" Silly question. ;) Now they don't blink an eye when I tell them about something going on in your lives.

I've also told DH that I will be taking a "field trip" to Vegas sometime as well!!!

Horseshowmom, I can appreciate the leftovers not going to "waist". I promised myself that if I want to lose weight before the cruise, I can't make too much of stuff. So I'm gonna try and not go overboard (one of my weaknesses). I did 50+ minutes on the eliptical trainer today and am aiming on doing that at lease 5 times a week.

Whoooo, girl! We've got an elliptical and 50 minutes is QUITE a workout! DH works out on it (I really need to), and it is intense. You've got my respect! :cheer2:

I'll come help with leftovers! I love, love, love left over stuffing w/gravy.............We are headed to the Nugget in Sparks. We go with some friends, we eat in the buffet, we spend the night and get the kids a room for themselves (kids: 17, 16 & 9)we hang out at the pool, order drinks etc. We started this tradition several years back and we love it......We do however all miss the leftovers, but we don't miss the family drama or the dishes!

I'm working thru Wednesday but I am taking all of Christmas break off and I can't wait! 2 weeks and we are not going anywhere! I am vacationed out and want to just chill - also we will be painting the kids' rooms. Time to update. DD is tired of her princess pink with the pastel balloons and wants sky blue walls with white clouds. DS wants the sports themed border taken down and replaced with a silver stipe. The border runs mid wall and the wall is royal blue under it. By adding the silver stripe he will have UNR colors!
DD loved the Ball, the hair adventure was a lot of fun and we left the beauty school with 3 Princesses!
My best friend and I sat down with a bottle of wine and enjoyed the couple of hours that everyone was gone.

I hope you all have a great week and a relaxing long weekend!

Happy Monday!! I hope that you all had a good weekend. Sounds like you did, Melissa.

So you noticed the discrepency between "not going overboard" and making 3 kinds of potatoes!! Thought I'd snuck that one in there. ;)

Just came back upstairs from using the eliptical. I did 60 minutes today! I am sweating like a pig and I can actually feel my pulse in places that I didn't think you COULD feel your pulse. Nonetheless, I can!! :rotfl: I hadn't done any exercise over the weekend, so I really needed it.

However, I DID do housework! I cleaned my laundry room, the downstairs office, the microwave, the refrigerator, and I did 6 loads of laundry. I will be making out a grocery list later today and preparing to go out tomorrow to get the stuff for Turkey Day prep. I want to have it all on hand so when I get up Wednesday morning, I can start cooking/preparing and I don't have to deal with the grocery store madness. DD and DS will be cleaning the house on Wednesday; one less thing for me to do.

We still managed to go out with friends on Friday night and with another set for dinner on Saturday night. DD came home from Boulder on Saturday and she helped me clean out my dining room hutch (how do those things get so dusty?!?!). Then, DH and DS played 18 holes of golf yesterday while DD and I drove the carts! Lots of fun. Had some pizza at home last night and relaxed. Good weekend!!

I'm glad that your DD had fun at the Father-Daughter Ball. It sounds like she was very pretty. Your Thanksgiving plans sound like a great time!! I also love the leftover stuffing with gravy and will have to try hard to not make too much of that for leftovers!!

I'm jealous about 2 full weeks off at Christmas. It sounds very relaxing. Good for you.

Well, gotta get back to work. Have a great day, all!!

I'd be dead

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

(me too! :guilty: )

Same here! :thumbsup2

Your Thanksgiving plans sound like a great time!!

I agree with Melissa about the lack of "drama" being a real selling point for a non-traditional version of Thanksgiviing. I know it's been good for us (now if we could just completely resolve Christmas... :rolleyes1 )

I'm jealous about 2 full weeks off at Christmas. It sounds very relaxing. Good for you.

I thoroughly enjoy having the two weeks off too. Last year we spend the first one in Orlando and had planned to do the same thing this year, but we don't get out until the Friday before Christmas, and there are just toooo many people down there for my taste then.

I spent yesterday in bed with either a cold or a sinus infection. We had Thanksgiving dinner at church after services, so DH, DD, and BF took care of the cooking before church yesterday morning and brought me a plate afterwards. I'm feeling better today but know I need a shot (couldn't get an appt. today, but I go tomorrow).

DD and BF picked up his horse from the trainer he's been at for the last two months. When BF tried to ride him yesterday, he wasn't very happy (after $1000+ for the training). His ears were back, and he wouldn't neck rein at all. DD rode him for about 30 minutes, and he got much better (ears up and neck reining fine), so she's going to ride him every day this week. Hopefully, he'll get in the groove.

Take care! :grouphug:

I'm sorry that you weren't feeling well, Horseshowmom. I hope you get better soon.

I know that someone in your household can get that horse to behave himself. After all, all of your animals are easily trained - except Chachi, that is!!! :) When I picture that dog, I envision him sitting on a velvet pillow with a little crown. :lmao:

As for the eliptical, sure I'll be your motivation!! Just picture a woman that needs to lose about 35 pounds, in baggy sweatpants, t-shirt and headband, slogging along to a recorded version of "What Not to Wear" on my television. That's my routine!! It makes the hour go by quickly and maybe gives me some ideas of what I might buy/wear when I get this weight off! It sure went on a lot easier than it's coming off. :confused3

Here girls chew on this one while I run to lunch with DS - My Father, yes SHE is coming into town for Christmas. She will be staying with her sister (my Aunt) My Aunt and Uncle come to my house every year for our Friends and Family Christmas Eve dinner and ornament battle(whole nother story:lmao: ) Father has not been welcome in my house for many years. Aunt says "Oh don't worry, She is aware we will be going to your house without her" Great! She has a tendency to hold a grudge, remember my brothers wedding! I am at a total loss - I don't want to intentionally hurt her feelings but dangit why did she choose to come here knowing full well what we all do every year. She is looking for a reason to have a hissy fit and be the "victim"

Oh, Melissa, that's a tough one . . . every time I think MY life is complicated, I think about yours and my "issues" are strikingly simple.

Maybe she's coming into town exactly because she KNOWS this puts you in a spot? :confused3 Hard to say without knowing her.

I remember you saying that your DD doesn't know about the "changes", that DS does but doesn't really want to see her, and that DH is very uncomfortable having her at your home. I think it's hard to introduce such a person into your family life at Christmas Eve/Christmas. Especially the way she acted initally through all of this sex change stuff.

You already have family traditions and it's really not fair for you to have to change them. That being said, I know that you're not heartless enough to not want to do something with her. But, I personally don't think that it has to be your annual Christmas Eve party with the ornament battle (which you HAVE to tell us about!!)

Is there any way that you could meet with her sometime either before or after the Holidays while she's still at your Aunt and Uncle's?

I'm not very profound in my answer, but not having any frame of reference for this makes it difficult!! :goodvibes If I get smarter and think of anything better, I'll let you know.

When I picture that dog, I envision him sitting on a velvet pillow with a little crown.

Funny, that's the way he pictures himself too...:rolleyes1

He and Tigger were laying at my feet a few minutes ago (after finally figuring out that I was NOT going to let them in my lap). Tigger got up and walked over next to Chachi's back. Chachi turned his head and growled at him. When he did, Tigger just fell over sideways and laid there, didn't move a muscle. Maybe it was Chachi's breath?

(Actually, I think Tigger was just stalling, because that's where he wanted to lay, and he knew Chachi would ignore him if he was still.;) )

Works for me, but I'll have to add some more weight to it!

I actually know somebody who is just like this - basically, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. In their case, it seems to be all about them, no matter what. There seems to be NO way you can come out ahead. I hope things work out for you. I know it can be very frustrating!

Happy Turkey Day one day in advance!!!

Well, I've made the stuffing, scalloped corn, and two kinds of potatoes in anticipation for tomorrow. I also used that darn eliptical, so I'm getting ready to burn off some calories in advance. ;)

Getting ready to take a shower in a minute so I can go out and get the pumpkin cheesecake. Yum!!

Just wanted to get on line for a second and wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. Drive carefully to your destinations, enjoy your festivities and your good food, and have a wonderful long weekend!!! :goodvibes

I'll add my Thanksgiving blessings here to! :goodvibes

I finally made it to the doctor yesterday (all full on Monday). Along with the sinus infection, I have bronchitis, but the doctor assured me that I will be better in time to leave for Nashville Friday morning. I got a shot and some heavy duty meds. I think they're really working, and I'm already feeling an improvement, so tomorrow should be a pretty good day too!

Enjoy all the good food! I think we're going to see Game Plan after we eat. We usually try to see a Christmas movie, but there's not really anything great out (DD and I already saw Fred Claus while we were at CityWalk).

Have a great day (that includes any lurkers who may be out there too - I noticed that our thread had a lot more readers than posters, and we'd love to have anybody who is interested to join in!)! :thumbsup2 Happy Thanksgiving to everybody! :woohoo:

Shame on me I went to lunch and never came back to wish you a happy thanksgiving! So sorry, our computers went down that afternoon and I was too busy being lazy this weekend to turn on the one at home.

I hope you both had wonderful Thanksgivings!

Horseshowmom:
I hope you are feeling better and were able to enjoy your weekend. What movie did you end up with?

Sandy:
I haven't seen the news either, how did the game come out and are all members of your family still speaking?;)

Are all the leftovers gone??????

We went off to the Hotel on Thursday where we ate at the buffet(YUMMY). We then swam in the pool followed by a trip to the arcade where we played for a little while. We adults left the kids with lots of $$ for tokens and met up in one of our rooms for a nightcap & snack and then we departed for bed. We were on one end of the 4th floor and our friends were at the opposite end with the kids ending up on the 7th floor. The next morning DH and I went to the coffee shop and had coffee and read the paper in silence.:coffee: We woke the kids at 9:30 and we all met for breakfast at 10, then back to the pool for more swimming. We headed home mid afternoon where DS and GF headed North to her Mothers and I headed to the high school snack bar for a basketball scrimmage series.

We were going to head into the mountains to cut the tree on Saturday, but DD came down with a 102 fever on Friday that lasted 24 hours. She is fine now and we will go cut the tree this weekend.

Last night I prepared DS's B-Day dinner: Tri Tip & Grilled shrimp, sesame bacon string beans, baked potatos and a home made apple pie.

Due to several unexpected sports conflicts I called off DS's surprise party yesterday. We told him last night what we had been up too but it wasn't worth going forward since the majority of his really close friends could not make it. We will reschedule.......Meanwhile, I have a cupcake cake with 4 DZ cupcakes to pick up today, it was too late to cancel so I will take them to him at school tomorrow.

That is my update - crazy week - tomorrow is DS's 18th B-Day and Wednesday is me and DH's 20th Anniversary.

Hope you have all recovered and have a great week.

Happy Tuesday!!!

Hope that you both had great Thanksgivings. Melissa, sounds like yours was fun and relaxing.

Happy Birthday to your DS today!! And Happy Anniversary on Wednesday. 20 years - that is an accomplishment!!

DH and I will celebrate 25 years together in August, provided we make it. ;) (I'm kidding, if you watch Dancing with the Stars he has a "crush" on one of the blonde dancers and we tease each other harmlessly about it).

Thanksgiving was very nice; the food turned out wonderfully and in large quantities. :) The stuffing is now gone, but we're still working on the mashed potatoes, turkey, and gravy. They taste great, but they are not good on the waistline!!

DD went back to Boulder mid-day Saturday. She had some errands to run up there and had a paper to finish. I miss her like crazy already. :sad2:
But she'll be home in less than a month and we'll all be together on the cruise!!!

DS has a lot of homework this week; guess that they are starting the windup for finals right before Winter Break. He was planning on going skiing on Friday but the lack of snow may make him change his mind. We desperately need LOTS more snow up in the mountains, or it may be a tough season for the ski areas.

We got the Christmas tree out of storage on Sunday and it's up, the lights on, and the garland strung. The ornaments haven't been added yet; hope to get to those today or tomorrow. Never enough time!!!

I was flat on my back sick yesterday, but am feeling much better today. Some sort of intestinal bug - that that is over.

Well, not much else to report. I hope that you have great weeks!

Pam; always thinking about you. I hope you can come back to us someday!!
