Let the Prom Drama begin....Like Aurora, her dress keeps changing

Congratulations on your Wally World total, Pam. I also went last night and got in and out of there for $31.00! So that was a victory for me.

Nothing to report on the prom front except DS thinks that one of the couples may not be riding with them - apparently there is too much "drama" going on in their relationship at the moment!

Bad news - my MIL just called here and FIL is not good at all. So I sit by the phone and wait for more information.

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. I'll be hoping for the best.

:sad2: Sandy, so sorry to hear about your FIL....it is all inevitable I guess, but I sure hope you get news on the up side. I am stressing about my Mom making this flight in, she really is not healthy enough to fly and I am just so fearful that her health will deteriorate just in travel, throw off the surgery/recovery.
$31? :worship: I can only pull that off when Wally's is out of half the stuff I have gone there for! I did buy Hostess cupcakes...a splurge, forgot the popcorn.popcorn:: bummer. Kids aren't big dessert eaters( where did I og wrong?:rotfl2: ) so it was the blah beige meal...went with the string beans which were pushed around the plate. DS was loaded w/homework again, and is reconsidering track...he is not one to just get right on his homework on a good day, let alone one that he is tired and hungry on. I think a lot of it is the competition...there are some stellar runners in his school and they mix the 7th and 8th, so he has had a big fat dose of reality this year. Maybe running club is more for him, but that is today...tomorrow will be a different story I am sure.
Our new Prama is the after day.... sounds a little along the lines of your DS group...kids had Navy Pier all lined up, but now some of the kids are not allowed to go, one has to work etc., so my rule of at least 8-10 is not being met. Fortunately another mom feels the same as I do so I am not the only bad guy. To be honest, DD would rather do paintball and so would Art Guy....but none of the other girls are interested do they dropped that idea. I don't know, maybe the Zoo, or maybe Great America will be back on the agenda...:confused3 anyway, I just hope they have fun, I just don't want the Prama to overpower the day for them all.
Well, gotta run again...maybe I will check in later!

Pam

Thanks, horseshowmom and Pam for the well-wishes. Yeah, FIL just turned 84 this past week and has been in poor health for at least the last 8 or 9 years, so no, it's not unexpected. But it certainly doesn't make it any easier.

DH doesn't know about any of this as of yet; he had to meet with a witness at 7:30 this morning for his trial. I'm not going to tell him until the end of the day.

Pam, I can relate about the track stuff. DS ran track his freshman year of high school. He was a sprinter (100 meters) and the competition was INCREDIBLE. His aspirations were to a) beat his personal best at each meet and b) not come in last in his heat. :) The only good thing about track was that the practices were a lot shorter than lacrosse practices are.

I sure hope that everything goes well with your mother. These things can be so stressful on everyone.

Sorry about the Navy Pier outing. I hope that they work out a good alternative plan for the day after. Today is DS's and girlfriend's "1-month anniversary" so I think he's off to the grocery store to buy her some flowers to take to school this morning. What a hopeless romantic. ;)

Cupcakes? Did someone say cupcakes? Yummy. I'm not a huge sweets fan, but every once in a while . . .

 Sandy, so sorry to hear things have declined with FIL so much, I don't blame you for not informing DH I would keep that for later also. Has it been a month already?! Time sure flies, how cute of your DS.

Pam, I thought the Wal-Mart groupies had taken you hostage:lmao: congrats on the total, I must not have any will power. Actually more like I hate going there and wait until we are out of everything! The after day sounds like fun, I want to go to Great America!

Your DD is my DS's ideal woman! :thumbsup2 He loves paintball, wants to see if any colleges have paintball teams on their sports rosters:laughing: Thinking about Med School but would really like to be a professional paintball player:rotfl:

Around here the kids are all planning on sleeping in since Saturday they have SAT's in the early a.m. and then prom until midnight, the N. Valleys (where I live) will be really quiet come Sunday morning.

Despite the best laid plans, dinner did not go as scheduled. I got stuck here at work until almost 7. Called DH at 6, said "do you want me to grab deli fried chicken on my way home?" he thought that was a fine idea. Called DH at 6:45 "How about Jack in the Box?" by then I was too tired to think of cooking, DH is not the most able cook unless it is all laid out with specific instructions.

I needed to get all the accessories for dinner at the store and didn't want to be eating at 9. It wasn't worth sending DH to the store since he was already home with DD and the store is another 6 miles in the opposite direction(on my way home)Plus my DH loose alone in a grocery store = lots of $$ spent and cabinets full of junk!

So DH loaded up DD and met me at Jack. DS was on his way back from a golf tournament in Carson City and went to dinner with the guys.

So, I was way over points, and too tired to care which is where I end up in WW trouble, I did have a diet coke! We live about 15 miles from the center of town and don't like to go into town if we don't have to which limits the eateries to: McD's, a good mexican, scary chinese:scared: , Jack, Subway, Wendys & a diner that is so/so. Currently I have a thing for those ciabatta burgers and DD would eat burgers 3 times a day if we let her.

Nothing new on Prom, other than DS wants me to call the school and excuse him from Study Hall so he can get to the tux place tomorrow before the masses start to show up. I'm thinking about it, I made no committments either way.

Prayers to both of you with your Parents & In-Laws.

Have a good day, I'll catch up with you all later

Melissa

Sandy,

Sorry to hear about your FIL. It gets tough to be the "sandwich" generation. I always worry about my mom (only parent left that we would take care of - we won't discuss FIL). I have 1 BR left in my house, but not sure how that would work out. Luckily she only 4 minutes from us and is only 67, so hopefully lots of good years ahead of her.

Glad to know the prama seems to be going okay. Did I read this right, there are now 7 girls he is taking to prom? He has the limo full all by himself. I am cracking up thinking about them at the burger joint in their formals. My DH is the GM at a Country Club and every spring we run a prom special for the kids. I think it is usually about $25 inclusive (tax & tip) and includes a sparkling cider, salad, entree, dessert and soft drink. We usually get some big tables, and the kids get to go somewhere "nice" for dinner without it costing an arm and a let.

The 3rd person DS12 asked to go with us in February has said no. He is a wrestler and is afraid of trying to maintain his weight. So, DS12 asked his cousin. She will be 24, but they are good friends, and she has gone with us in the past and I know we can "live" with her for 8 days. DD8's friend's parents have agreed, so we are good to go. With 6 of us, we will be upgrading to a 2BR at either OKW or AKV. It is beginning to sound like a lot of fun. I booked airline tickets last night (too afraid to wait with the price of oil fluctuating). I need to start saving and picking up tickets for the cousin and friend as we go along.

We had to take DS12 to the Dr. yesterday where he was weighed and measured. The kid is 5'7 1/2" and 115 lbs. It is pretty sad when you are envious of your 12 year old's vital statistics. He is now about 3" taller than I and we won't discuss the difference in weight.

Well, lunch is over, back to the grind stone.

See you later.

Thanks, Melissa and Beverly. :goodvibes

Well, the news is a little better. Just got off the phone with my SIL. My FIL's vitals are better. He's still breathing heavy and they are occasionally suctioning his lungs, but his bp, pulse, and temperature are normal, so that's good. He's not speaking, which leads me to believe that he may have had a stroke or maybe a mini-stroke. Since he has Parkinson's, it's hard to tell since he doesn't have use of his arms or legs anyway. :sad1:

Melissa, there are days when it is SO hard to follow WW, so I empathize. I am not going to weigh-in this week because there's just too much going on. Plus, I was starving on Sunday night and we ordered pizza and it was so delicious I ate 3 slices and had 2 glasses of wine, so I am now trying to make up for my "badness". With DH out of town, I haven't even had a glass of wine and have stayed within my points.

Go ahead and excuse your son early from school - what the heck!!

Beverly, I wish I had your son's height and weight too. :) Both my kids are tall and lanky. I USED to be like that - quite a few years ago. But at 47 my metabolism has been shot to h*** and it is tough going. One of the things that I've learned is that a pre-menopausal woman like me just doesn't need to eat as much as she used to. Hard lesson for someone who likes food! I am happy for you about your future trip and am glad that the cousin is an acceptable alternative. The 2BR sounds like a great option -does it have 2 bathrooms too? With kids, that's important!

Good morning, everyone!

Well, FIL is stabilized, at least for now. So that's good news. DH and I are trying to figure out if we should drive/fly back to see him this weekend.

Not much else to report around here. I got $$$ from another kid in the limo, so I'm happy. ;)

I hope that everyone is having a good day. :goodvibes

Good morning! I'm glad to hear your FIL is better.

Things are peaceful here in MS. Yesterday was DD's BF's birthday (he's not too thrilled about turning 24 - thinks he's getting old! :rotfl2: ). She got a bottle of sparkling juice (neither of them drink, and they really like that stuff), and she took him out to the lake for a toast. She said they sat in the swing out there and really enjoyed the view as they had their "toast".

After that, they went back into town, and she took him to eat on the Square at an Italian restaurant that he loves. Then they walked down to the candy store and got some fudge and chocolate.

After that, they went by a bookstore there on the Square. The guy who owns it has several cats that live there (he spends most of his time at the store, so they live there instead of at his house). He has his front window fixed for them with decorative beds and things to climb (they have the run of the store too). She said that one of them looked at them and then rolled over and went back to sleep. Another one played with them "through the window" (the store was closed, so DD and BF were outside).

No doubt about it, I've got some wild kids!!! :rotfl: :lmao:

Good Morning Ladies:

Sandy, glad to hear things are stable for the moment with FIL. That touch and go stuff with distance involved is very draining, hang in there.

More $$, yeah, have they all paid up or do you need to borrow a bat?

Horseshowmom, How sweet are they! Young love, ahhhh remember what it was like:goodvibes
I love cats and really love businesses that have cats, I'll buy stuff I would have never dreamed of just to see the kitties.

Beverly, yes it looks like the harem is up to 6 or 7. His ego is a little inflated these days:rotfl: They will not all be driving together unless DS takes my mini van, which he doesn't want to do("I don't want to drive 6 giggly girls around".) It looks like he will be using my bestfriends Land Rover and they will go in a couple of groups and meet up for dinner, pictures, prom and the rest of the activities they want to do.

The prom event at the Country Club sounds fun. We have a Junior Assembly formal here in Feb and the kids all went fancy for dinner, I think they wanted to go casual dining in formal attire. I need to figure out how to sneak around and get some pictures without them knowing. A girl all dolled up in a formal gown, sitting on a bar stool eating a "Double-Double" burger at In-N-Out is a priceless picture. I guess many of the groups are planning to meet there, limos and all.

Glad you resolved who is going with you to WDW, but if something falls thru, you know where to find me! 5'7" and 115# I'm envious:rolleyes: I think those of are the stats of my left leg:rotfl2:

DS sent me a text msg. to ask me to excuse him from school early so he can get his tux before the masses. I replied "did you clean the cat boxes?" he said yes, so I excused him. If he lied, he is going to beat feet it home to clean them:lmao: Either way, the kitties are happy and I won't smell cat box when I get home. And kids think they are smarter than us;)

A very good friend of mine is in WDW (epcot) this week and on to the Bahamas (her DH had a conference in Orlando). They called me yesterday and left me a voice mail message - they were chewing and slurping away on the message:eek: and telling me how much they were enjoying their Schoolbread and Viking coffee in Norway!

Hope you all have a good day

Ahhh, the dreaded litter boxes. We have 3 cats that are in the house, and it's just about a full-time job! One of them has an immune disorder (not the contagious one), and she was limping last night. It looks like it's time for another shot of Depo-Medrol.

Bless her heart, it's a terrible disease. She's had half of the pad on one of her front feet removed, and now she's got a big concave ulcer under her lip that will probably also have to have surgery (trying to treat it before we decide). For awhile the skin on her back flaked up like scabs too. :guilty:

The only plus side to it is that she used to be one of the barn cats, but I moved her inside to better care for her. She's so funny now. She'll go to the door and watch us if we go outside, but when we open the door, she takes off back to the living room - has NO interest in going in and out like the others. :rotfl:

Oh, poor kitty, I hope the ulcer clears up without surgery. She has discovered the good life.

We don't let ours out. I was tired of vet bills from abseces and the threat of coyotes is constant.

One of our cats has a genetic abnormality in his front feet. He has the extra bone for a 6th toe but no 6th toe to support it and he broke the bone jumping off of something. He spent 8 weeks in a crate with a morphine patch recovering and now we don't let him anywhere near something he can jump off of ie...the rafters in the garage or the roof.

He could easily break the same bone in the other foot. We found him behind a grocery store about 5 yrs ago when he was about 10 months old. He has been on house arrest now for 3 years and still, every time the door is opened he is right there. He will hiss and snarl but we won't give in. He's really not as tough as he likes to think. A couple of months ago, he got out. It was about 9 at night and about 8 degrees. I told DH he won't be gone long, I walked to the front door and there he was, shivering and looking really pathetic. He had been in the elements for about 2 minutes:laughing:

Our other kitty has been indoors since we brought him home from animal control at 6 weeks of age, he tries to escape periodically, but is so fat he can't jump our 8 foot fence so no one worries about him too much;)

Sandy - glad to know your FIL is doing better.

I need to buckle back down and start WW again. I told DH I have got to lose some weight before we go back in February. Alcohol isn't my problem, I guess the pre-menopausal female thing is getting to me, and I love food also. DH manages a Club now, but has also been the Chef there in the past, so there is some good cooking at our house.

Lucky for us the 2BR has 2 bathrooms. That is one reason we upgraded from a 1BR. If we had stayed at 5 people, we could have used a 1BR, but only having 1 bath scared me.

Things are peaceful here in MS. Yesterday was DD's BF's birthday (he's not too thrilled about turning 24 - thinks he's getting old! :rotfl2: ). If anyone falls through, I'll let you know. We are still waiting to hear if my mother will come too. I love my mother and she is very easy to travel with, however she is unable to handle the walking at WDW and refuses to rent a scooter because she is afraid of hitting someone, so we end up pushing a wheelchair the entire time. She hates sitting in it, and pushing it can really tire me out, so I am torn as to whether I really want her to go or not.:confused3 I guess we'll have to wait and see. My big concern is that DH will be at meeting a lot of the time, so it will be up to me and DS12 to push the stroller. There are more hills at WDW than I really knew of.

Well, lunch is over again. Have a great day ladies!

We actually have a dozen cats (literally :rolleyes1 ), but everybody's been spayed/neutered. My DH would probably leave me before they all moved in! ;)

Fortunately, the others do well around the barn (all were abandoned before they came to live with me, so they're very happy to have hay to sleep in and lots of food to eat).

DD's cat likes to go outside and "play cat" (as DD calls it). He's like yours though, he won't stay long if it's cold outside. She laughs at how he'll "run away" from her when he runs out at night (wanting her to chase him). He'll even run up a tree. She just looks at him and says, "Fine, stay out here all night" and goes back in the house (she'd die before she let him stay out all night! :rotfl2: ). Sure enough, he's at the door in a a couple of minutes. :rotfl:

disneyeveryyear - I'm envious of your trip! I just found out this morning that AirTran is going to have nonstop service to Orlando from an airport near us starting in May, AND they have some promotional fares for $98 roundtrip! :woohoo: I'm really struggling with myself since I'm hoping to go Thanksgiving week and need to save my money until then instead of going soon. You know, this Orlando fixation isn't for the faint of heart, is it? :sad2:

I love my mother and she is very easy to travel with, however she is unable to handle the walking at WDW and refuses to rent a scooter because she is afraid of hitting someone
She needs to hang out with my inlaws who have joined us at WDW the past 2years for a few days.

This year, as we were headed out after a long day in AK we saw the place that had all the scooters for rent. We decided that on our next visit we were going to rent a fleet, one for each member of the family! We have been home almost 4 months and my feet still hurt.

My FIL is from NH and doesn't care how many people he runs off the road,:scared: he has been doing it his whole life:lmao:

When our 13 yr. old Charlie died a few years ago we still had Baxter (our abandoned kitty). I told the kids we would go to animal control and get a new kitty the next day. The kids wanted one each, DH in all seriousness looks at the kids and asks, "who is telling Baxter he needs to move out?" DD pulled the teary eyes and voila, we came home with 2 kittens.

Fortunately, the others do well around the barn (all were abandoned before they came to live with me, so they're very happy to have hay to sleep in and lots of food to eat).
Which just proves once again that cats are the superior domesticated animal:rolleyes1

Thats me, I can't go to bed until all the cats and kids are accounted for.

Kittens are so sweet to watch to play. DD came home from her BF's last weekend and asked sweetly about getting one of his kittens for her birthday, because she had "fallen in love with one of them"...:rotfl2: Someone had found a mama and 3 kittens and brought them to the BF, because he's a sucker for a needy animal too! :thumbsup2

I told her that she must have lost her cotten pickin' mind and that she needed to go run a fast count on how many we have right now - not to mention what her dad would say if he even heard her mention such a thing! :rolleyes1 I told her she could just go play with them at his house at her leisure. ;)

You're right about the cats being superior. If anybody doesn't believe it, they could ask any of our cats. They're positive of it! :lmao:

Horseshowmom: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
If I so much as look at a kitten or do the oooohhhhhh how cute, DH who is generally deaf and oblivious is on instant alert and speaks NO, NO, NO, NO, repetitively until I move on.......:confused3

I had to bail the neighbors dogs out of the pound while they were on vacation - DH was very leery of letting me go alone:lmao: I did see a beautiful black kitty with the biggest green eyes, while he and I were bonding, DH called and just kept saying, NO, NO, NO, NO - I left with just the neighbors dogs...........:sad1:

Prama:
DS picked up his tux, it fits. Usually they have to reorder the pants because with his size double pleats don't cut it and the pockets stick out. This time around they just ordered the triple pleats from the getgo and he says everything fits great. He was supposed to firm up transportation and groups today, I'll see when I get home.

Have a good night ladies, I'm outta here - bacon burgers for dinner (ground sirloin w/ground lean bacon) yummmyyyyyyy (local butcher shop specialty)

That's too funny! :rotfl: Now that I think about it though, I'm not too sure that my DH wouldn't have just gone himself (just to be sure!)... :rolleyes1

The tux sounds great. Glad he doesn't have to worry about changes. Sounds like he's ready to go! :thumbsup2

The burgers sounded wonderful (really, really good)! I'll take two! :upsidedow

Good morning, everyone!

Well, FIL continues to get better, so we are encouraged. DH will probably fly to see him on Sunday and fly back again sometime on Monday. Short turnaround, but I think he'll feel better just seeing his dad for awhile.

Melissa, glad that the tux fit. That's always a good thing to get it right the first time. You have to take some pictures. I'm sure that your DS and his harem will look great!

Horseshowmom, your DD and her boyfriend sound positively "wild" in their birthday celebration. :rotfl: They're about as mild as DD and her boyfriend (which is a good thing!).

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. It has been a very stressful couple of days. I really appreciate the kind words. Thankfully he's a fighter and is pulling out of this.

I have to go to the florist to order the corsage for DS's girlfriend today. The last couple should be paying me for the limo today as well, so that's one less thing to think about.

Those bacon burgers sound marvelous. Better than the leftover pasta I had last night (I've been in a saving $$ mode and am trying not to waste our leftovers).

Disneyeveryyear - glad that it's got 2 bathrooms - makes a vacation MUCH more enjoyable!! I am not a morning person, so folks need to get out of my way when I'm trying to get ready to go out to WDW! All I need is 30 minutes to start to feel human and then I'm good to go!!

Everyone's "cat stories" are so cute. I like cats, but we have so many foxes and coyotes around here that you really have to watch them or they'll be dinner. :guilty: So we're currently settling for one spoiled, overweight dog. :)

I hope that everyone has a great day. Will check in later.

I can give you a dog story too. We have a 4 year old Chihuahua that we took in (we've had him two years, so he was only 2 when we got him), because his elderly owner wasn't supposed to have him in her apartment to start with. Our previous Chihuahua had died suddenly, and my mother kept looking for another one for us...:rolleyes1

Anyway, we were originally told that he was housebroken. When we got to the intermediary to pick him up, we were told that he wasn't (at 2 years old! He had been allowed to go in the apt., because the woman wasn't supposed to have him in the first place. ). To make a long story short (I know, too late  ), he still has accidents from time to time (well, they aren't accidents actually  ).

To deal with that situation, when it got warm here, I started putting him in our outdoor kennel during the day while I was at work.

He sleeps in his bed that is in the floor next to my side of the bed. He used to jump up every morning as soon as I got up. Now, he pretends to be curled up asleep the whole time I'm getting ready. Every now and then you'll see his little black eyes peek around the room. I have to go pick him up to take him outside.

This morning I made a point of going in the living room and turning on the TV. After awhile, I head him come quietly down the hall and watch me around the corner. He wouldn't come in the living room until he saw me sit down.

Then he came and jumped in my lap! :rotfl: You should have seen the look on his poor face when I promptly picked him up and took him outside. He was so pitiful that I let him wet and then took him back in. I'm a sucker for a pitiful face! :cutie:
