Good Morning all! After being MIA this weekend...had to paint, family obligations, etc.....wishing all a Happy Monday!
Disneyeveryyear...DS does not really chat on the computer...but I will mention it to him, if WDW is the topic he may have incentive! Quite the good lookin' DS you have there...he would tower over mine...he is only 12? Wow...call the Bulls...line him up! We enjoyed the awesome temps up the road here too...our crab apple trees are in bloom and look so pretty ...too bad they didn't hold off just 1 more week so we would have all the color for Prom pictures...seee, this IS the Prom Drama page so I had to reference it somewhere!;)
Hey Melissa, did you say 2 weeks 'till your prom...ummmmmm, 5/5 is THIS Sat!:scared1:
DD has been having trouble finding the right stone for the choker she trying to make, and still brooding over the ACT'S.
Off to the days events,

Pam

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

I hope that everyone had a good weekend.

Not much to report on the prom front. I actually got my first payment from a kid who'll be riding in the limo. :woohoo: They're all supposed to pay me by Friday or Monday at the latest, so we'll see . . .

Weather was wonderfully warm here this weekend. After our 10-12 inches of snow last Tuesday, it was SO nice. The hummingbirds have returned and I got the feeder out Saturday morning to accommodate their demands.

Got to order the corsage for DS's date today, but that's about it.

Have a great day, all. Check in when you can.

Can I moan for a minute? Just found out the DH's sister, who all along has stated she will take DH's parents in when needed as she has a large home/in-law arrangement etc., she just announced they are moving to Atlanta, put a bid on a house...so, we get the the responsibility of their care. I am scrambling trying to get my house ready for my mom who is having surgery and pretty much moving in with us...( not that they asked mind you:rolleyes1 ) now we have to handle DH folks care...another set who is so stubborn will not go into assisted living..and his dad is 87! I can't do 2 sets of parents and major ailments and teens at the same time...I just can't. DH and I are the youngest in our families..he has 4 sisters, I have 2 bro's and 1 sister...So where are these siblings? They all packed up and moved or have basically removed themselves from any obligations. I hate to be selfish, my folks gave me life and all and took care of me, but there is no room in my place for this, physically or emotionally. Thsi just took the fun out of Prom at the moment...where are those margerhita's?

Pam

Good Morning Ladies:

DS got his tux all squared away, has more girls on his arm right now than he knows what to do with  and is looking forward to the prom. They are planning on dinner at Johnny Rockets or In-N-Out Burger (no one wants to do fancy) then the prom and then they are going to hit the go-carts, the mini-golf and the Ultimate Rush ride at the Grand Sierra Resort - the ride is one of those things that they strap you in, pull you up and then your drop and swing:scared1:

Pam:
Yep, I got my act together and realized prom was a week away, not 2. I have been suffering from brain drain lately (yeah I know, too much vodka:rolleyes1 ). Last night I took DD's little friend home, was standing in the living room talking with the mom. As I was getting ready to leave I looked at DD and said, "ok, give me a kiss and be good".......The Mom just looked at me, duh, DD was going home with me it was a school night! I'm losing it!

Sandy:
Hope you get all that $$ collected, I would hate to read about a Mom going wild with a baseball bat on Prom kids' knees;)

Disneyeveryyear:
Remember when the kids thought unloading the dishwasher was FUN! Oh, I miss those days..............

:sad2: :sad2:
Okay, so totally off topic, but this just has my panties in a twist this morning.
I am the Secretary of the High School Booster Club.
We give out 4 -$500 scholarships every year.
Our Sr. class must have at least 400 kids in it.
We put the applications everywhere, the career center, on the school website, the counseling office, daily announcements, etc.....We put the applications out in early March with a deadline of 4/27 to be back into the office.
I went by the office this morning and picked up 14 completed applications, yes 14 was all that was turned in:mad: Now, I realize $500 is not a "full ride" scholarship but still it would cover a couple of classes here at UNR or the Community College or books or whatever.........I just don't get it.
These kids and their parents whine about the cost of higher education and if they aren't applying for the local stuff, are they going after other scholarships? It gives me hope that there may be some additional options out there for us for DS next year.

On another note college related, I finally got some info on the "Good Neighbor" schools (WICHE) program and it has opened up some significant options for DS if he chooses. Right now he wants to apply to Oregon State Univ. ($30K) with room/board & out of state tuition. The WICHE program would knock almost $10K off of the tuition making the idea a little more feasible for DS. I'm rooting for UNR since he will qualify for the state funded Millennium Scholarship and can live at home.

The Earthday party was fabulous, I made a little over 10 lbs. of my chinese chicken salad and it was all gone! Good stuff - the peach daquiries were yummy and the weather could not have been better. We all had a really nice relaxing day in the woods.

Melissa

Melissa...forgot to ask..how was WalMart...Y'know...every womans dream....

We actually had fun - What a way to keep the ole flame flickering:rotfl:

We went to our favorite Mexican joint for dinner, where I actually ordered a drink from the bar (yeah, I know big surprise:rolleyes: ) but usually I don't order drinks, I am too cheap and with the kids now eating off an adult menu it is too spendy. But, since they were home having Mac&Cheese:rolleyes1

Anyway, it was really yummy! Then we were off to Wally-Mart where for once we reached the check out without a bunch of stuff the kids put into the basket without telling us. We wandered blissfully thru the shampoo and soap aisle.........completely undisturbed.

We were able to plan out more of our summer trip since the kids think we are going to San Diego and have no idea we are off to Texas. We can't discuss it at home since our little one has ears that pick up EVERYTHING!

Thanks for asking!

Here ya go:drinking1 :drinking1
I think you need to tell your inlaws what you just posted here. I realize we all feel obligated to some extent, but realizing our limits is really important, not only for you but your family as well.

You can't do it all and I would sit them down and tell them so. Some will view it as selfish, personally I view it as self preservation and in my book, my DH and kids come first.

When I took on the issues with my Mother, I made it very clear that I would do as much as I could but I would not sacrifice my kids. (I do not nor have I ever really had a relationship with my Mother) What I am doing is purely obligatory and something I hope I would consider doing for any human being that ended up in the predicament she ended up in (due to severe mental illness)

As for the siblings, I can totally relate to that! My Mother is the oldest of 5, they live within 1/2 hour of her home. The youngest sister (My Auntie) is the only one that even stops in to see her. One of my uncles actually said to me "Well, you can get to her faster and easier than I can" Hello, my getting there involves an airplane ride, his involves 30 minutes of driving! My brother likes to think he is "involved" when all he actually does is whine about or question the decisions I have made for Mothers welfare.

Sometimes, taking them into your home is not a good option. I would really begin to explore what their finances can support and since the SIL is moving, why cannot the in-laws relocate with them? Changing location does not give the family a free pass to get out of helping to care for their parents (imo)

Hang in there - my thoughts and prayers are with you:hug:

Where is everyone?

I've been here all alone all day (except for the good mornings) I've been abandoned........

My email buddy is at WDW (epcot only) continuing on to the Bahamas this week and I have actually gotten a lot of work done today:scared: :scared: Help

Am I pathetic yet:rolleyes:

Good morning, everyone!!

Sorry for "abandoning" you guys - it was SUCH a Monday at work yesterday! Plus, DH has a trial starting today, so we were definitely in "prep" mode around our house.

Melissa, DS's lacrosse team won their game on Thursday, but lost their games on Friday and Saturday (this was expected, though, because they are the top 2 teams in our conference and our high school's lacrosse program is only 3 years old). However, we DID qualify for the state playoffs, and that first game will be this Friday or Saturday in Denver. So DS continues with practice, watching films, homework, and socializing. :)

Melissa and Pam - I am very sorry about the added stress to your lives regarding your parents' and in-laws' health. It makes things even more difficult when they won't consider assisted living - although someone MAY have to make that decision for them down the road, whether they like it or not. MY FIL would have been perfectly content to have had my MIL take care of him at home forever. But it started affecting HER health almost as badly as his (he has no use of his arms or legs and was quite heavy initially when this happened) that even he agreed that he couldn't stay there anymore.

My own parents are deceased and I have no brothers or sisters, so I only have to deal with it from the position of a daughter-in-law. We are fortunate in that one of DH's sisters lives part time with MIL to help transport her to see FIL (because of vision problems she can't drive anymore). She isn't married and has no children and does many things to help so we are very grateful.

Melissa - I can hardly wait to hear about your son's prom adventures with his harem this weekend!!

Pam - How goes the search for the choker stone? Better, I hope.

Well, back to work. I hope that everyone takes a minute today to check in. I hope that everyone is doing well. :goodvibes

Good Morning Ladies:

Sandy:
How exciting to be headed to the State Finals - gives me goosebumps, I totally understand that kind of excitement - Good Luck:cheer2:
Our High School is only 6 years old so all of our sports teams are "young". Our football team made it to the N. NV. Regional playoffs last year it was so much fun, even my nails were done up in school colors and I had window paint all over the windows of the van for weeks. I am so looking forward to this upcoming season, with DS a Sr. and it being his last year, I plan to savor every minute of it. My 2 best friends got me my own "Lettergirl" jacket (I always wanted one) for my B-Day this year and I can't wait to wear it!

Good day to everyone else, hope you all are well.

Melissa

Thanks. The thing that DS is most excited about is the fact that the lacrosse team will get a banner that will display in the school gym that says "State Qualifiers - 2007". I also think he'll get a patch for his letter jacket.
So what position does your son play? I know what you mean about enjoying every minute that you can. I will really miss all of this when DS graduates next year.

You sound so adorable in your Lettergirl Jacket. Now all you need are some pom-poms! :cheer2:

Howdy all :surfweb: ...slow moving today as I was up all night tossing and turning over issues...thanks for the encouraging advice about both sets of parents...my head is just spinning. Personally, I don't believe my momthers health is good enough for her to fly here from Fl let alone take on major surgery afterward, but my Dad can't handle her recovery, has his own health issues etc., and doctor said she will be in need of "family suppoert" after...that comment did not leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. As far as DH's folks, his Mom would go for assisted living in a heartbeat, she is very social and tries to stay active volunteering etc., but is extremely limited as she cannot leave his Dad alone, sounds very similar to what Sandy was describing. It just irritates us that DH sister has been souting off for years how she deserves this/that as she will be the one to take care of the folks, and now she bolts. If DH's parents could travel I would suggest they transfer right along with them, climate in Atlanta is better than Il for sure!
No stone yet, DD is going to head to the mal after Art Club today. She will have about 45 minutes between when I drop her and then get DS from track and then pick her up. Today is her one day of the school week that she does not work so I sure hope she finds something. If not, no biggie, amny gorls just go with the earrings with a strapless...or DD does have a beautiful strand of pearls that my folks have been getting her each holiday, birthday etc. It is her birthstone and she has over 30 on a strand. She was going for a more hip look, since she feels the dress is ahem, " old lady-ish" :rolleyes1
Melissa, can't believe you only have 4 days to go...how is your weather forcast? Ours looks great thru this weekend, which pretty much means we will get a lousy one next weekend. Seriously. We are the last of the area H.S. to have Prom, the last 2 weekends were beautiful, no rain, and this coming is also supposed to be perfect, which means next weekend is doomed. Happens all the time to us for Homecoming. However, here's hoping I am WAY wrong!
Need to run as always...there goes the phone...grand central atation
OOOOPS! Forgot to send this when answering the barrage of phone calls involving all 4 parents. I need to get an office outside the home...people just do not think I am working if I can answer a phone, but how do I not answer wondering if one of the folks is in need?
Well, that killed 2+ hours...so far behind now on a project...guess I'll take 2 more hours of sleep away tonight ot catch up.
Can you tell I
m cranky from no sleep last night?
Prama, people! I need fresh Prama to take my mind off of things...so those of you with kids heading out this weekend...lets hear it!

Pam

Congrats to your son Sandy...3 years is a short aount of time to make it! Kudos to the team , coaches and of course, dedicated parents!;)
Melissa...PIC'S! We want pic's of you in the jacket...so cool...I think we need lushette one's...like the pink ladies from Grease. As I mentioned...DEDICATED PARENTS!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
I of course, attribute it to my Peter Pan syndrome of refusing to grow up past my HS years...the BEST of my life...I know, sad, I have a great DH, great kids, but man, no stress compared to now. Biggest problem was wondering what to wear to the party you made sure you had an invite to! Back in the days when kids actually had time to talk at their lockers in between classes, social life was the priority, not like today where a GPA of 3.5 and a ACT of 30 STILL doesn't get you into school!
O.K. Vent over...now I HAVE to hit the showers ladies...yes, it has been that kind of day ( well, week actually) thank gosh for the 'ole crock pot, bonless chickens and can of cream of mushroom soup. Tonight s dinner falls under the "off white" cattegory, rice, chicken, sauce. I guess I'll green it up a bit with peas or string beans, maybe salad. Poor Wndy's and McDonald's...they are going into some financial loss today without us at the drive thru!:rotfl2:
I obviously cannot spell or type today, o.k., like, ever......please excuse

Pink Ladies Jackets!! Yessss!! :cool2: Sign me up.

Lacrosse game is Saturday at 2:00. Some kids are taking the SAT that morning - could make for a very long day!! Thanks for the kind words, Pam.

Hey Pam, sorry about your stressful day, but at least you've THOUGHT about dinner and even taken steps to actually MAKE it. With DH in trial, it's just DS and me tonight. DS may be eating drive though cuisine!! I'm a popcorn and cereal for supper girl when I can get away with it!!!

Uggghhhh my post didn't post, the DIS totally locked up!

Popcorn and cereal rock...my personal fav is to make kettle corn, add honeycomb ( dry) and sprinkle cinnamon over it...dessert would be movie candy, twizzlers and M&m's. Maybe I'd have some red grapes to add something healthy, but probably not.

Now THAT sounds decadent . . . :goodvibes Not good for my weight loss efforts, though.

I know, and you guys are disciplined...I just keep buying larger and larger clothes...:rolleyes1
Hey Melissa, I'm off to Wally-World...I'll be thinking of your hot date there w/DH! While I do not have time for this trip, must feed the children, wash their clothes, get the antacids for my stomacj that hass been upended...and now, thanks to Sandy, must get popcprn and Honeycomb!
Let's lay bets ladies...do I get out of there for under $100?
I'll post when I return!

Pam

I'm thinking it will be a $75 to $100 trip, unless she spots some special that she just can't pass up!

I gotta go to Wally World tonight myself, although I am DETERMINED to keep it under $100!
