My girls love Lego friends so I'm thinking about making a trip to DD for them to look at the Lego store. We've never been to a Lego store. Is the store big? Worth heading to? Do they carry the Lego friends? Are the prices crazy insane compared to Wal-Mart or Target? Do they offer any special items there?

We usually find souvenirs in the parks, and I think heading to DD takes a lot of time. We're driving our vehicle for the first time on our next trip though, so it would be easier. Wondering if it's worth the time to head that way.

Sorry if I've posted this thread in the wrong forum; I wasn't sure of where else to post it. Thank you!

I think prices are comparable to Target, etc. I would join lego vip and get the lego magazine sent to your house because sometimes there are coupons, not to mention coupons for legoland BOGO a lot of the time.

DTD Lego is really fun and we never miss it.

The Lego store is amazing! They have BIG lego designs on display and have tons of lego kits. You and your girls will enjoy it. It is not just a guy thing.

The prices are the same. They have some neat displays but really the selection isn't much different than Wal-mart, except for some larger pieces

If your girls love Legos I think the Lego store is a must do. There is a whole section of Lego Friends and every other Lego set there is. It is also a lot of fun to see all the big things they have made with Legos, like huge Beauty and the Beast. I found prices to be comparable to other stores, unless you get them on sale. The last few times we have done fill a cup that you fill with a variety of pieces that you want. I think the large cup was around $16 and really for all the special pieces we got I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I've found the last few years our kids would rather spend their souvenir money at the Lego store than any where else.

As the PPs have said, the merchandise that they sell is available elsewhere (like Target and Walmart or online), so in that respect it's not really all that different. They have a large play area for kids and giant Lego displays (Disney characters) to look at. So it's fun to look around the store, but it might necessarily be the place to buy the items if you have to carry them home in your luggage!

As alryan said, the big draw, besides the GREAT Lego sculptures inside and outside, is the random peice area where you can fill a cup of varying sizes with whatever peices you want. You can also build you own fiqures from all varying parts. It's a great way to replace some lost bricks or just come up with something totally your own.

If your kids like Legos, it is a must do!

DTD Legoland is really fun and we never miss it.

To be really clear, the coupons are buy an adult ticket get a kid free at Legoland themepark. And you can get those coupons even in some sets.

The place at DTD is the Lego Store. It's REALLY easy to get newbies confused with terminology. :)

If you're going to buy at the Lego store, be sure to sign up for the VIP program! You get a cute card and you get a point for each dollar you spend (unless you're lucky enough to shop in a 2 for 1 time period), and when you reach 100 points you can use a $5 discount.

Prices are prices, and it's important to know what Legos cost. It's important even when buying from TRU and other stores, because especially TRU is known for bumping up prices then bringing them down to (quite often) the exact same price you could get directly through Lego. But without the VIP points.

Lego enforces price control over their product. So unless someone is liquidating their stock, you won't find any significant savings any where else.

They DO have a few items that you can't find in the chain stores but they are usually novelty items not necessarily Lego sets.

I'm not sure if they still offer it, but a few years ago I got a personalized Lego brick from there. You can select brick color and letter color, then they will engrave a word or name on the brick.

Agreed, it's an amazing store. The builds are awesome. And kids love to create their own Lego characters. :)

I love that I can use my AP discount at the store in downtown Disney and get my Lego points... Not sure if pricing will be better at legoland (45 mins away)... But with 2 crazed Lego fans in the house we plan on shopping at DtD for the discount and the playing at Legoland one day of our trip too!

We love that store! We were hoping it would carry some exclusive Disney Legos, but didn't see any. I think they are missing a huge opportunity. If they sold a $5 minifigure that came with mickey ears, they would sell a ton! Or have sets that make up parts of WDW, like main street.

I'd buy that!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Sounds like it's a hit with the kids so we'll try to swing by before our trip home. My girls will love it!

Oh, that's what I was hoping for. I agree, Lego is missing a huge opportunity. What a special souvenir that would make.

Oop, I fixed it I think.

I have also received coupons for 10% off at the Lego store, in my magazine. Just saying, its worth it to sign up for VIP plus then the kids get the magazine too.

Also, some of the best photo ops at DTD are ironically at the Lego store, where they have amazing sculptures, including a very cool dragon/loch ness monster in the lake.

Never done the one at DTD at WDW but been to the one in DTD at Disneyland and I don't know who had more fun my boy or me.

Its an awesome place with all sorts of pieces made out of Legos. The one we were at had a life sized giraffe.

Like stated before you can buy a plastic tub in 2 sizes if I remember and it is a flat price and if the lid fits on it you are good to go. Great for those missing blocks or special blocks.

Pricing would be the same at Legoland and you CANNOT use your Lego VIP card there.

Legoland is not owned by Lego so VIP card is not good there, we learned that the hard way. I was told Lego only owns about 20% of the Legoland parks

We spend hours at the DTD store, our 10 year old loves more then the parks. You can build a car and race it out front. There is a huge lego building room in back of store also plus the computers to play the games.

They have the loose brick buckets and the build your own figure section where you get 3 lego figures for $9.99.

I have found they have many hard to find sets that are not in Target or Walmart.

We hit Lego store early in morning and then head to Trex for lunch right when they open at 11am, it's a tradition now.

Well in THAT case, I will be buying our Christmas wish items at DTD and using my PAP discount and aquiring VIP points! Thanks for the tip!!!! (This process saved me a ton of money last year but wasnt sure what the best strategy was this year with our plan to hit Legoland. Gotta love the Dis for all the tips!)

My 36 year old fiance loved the Lego store at DTD and can't wait to go back next year. I'm not even a Lego nut, but there is ALOT to see and cool photo ops, as previously mentioned.
