Hows the food at Le Cellier? I usually hear good reviews with a couple bad ones mixed in. How is the following:

14 oz New York Strip Steak

7 oz Filet Mignon (could I get the roasted Yukon potatoes instead of the cream cheese mashed potatoes or just regular mashed poatoes without cream cheese with this?)

Seared Free-Range Chicken

Beef and Barley Soup

Steakhouse Caesar Salad (what is parmesan-black pepper crisp)

Also I noticed that they only have cream cheese mashed potatoes. Is there anyway that I could order just regular mashed potatoes without the cream cheese?

I'll take all of them.:) . Really, every time we have been there it has been great. I have read some of the negative press and I guess we were the lucky ones. You have to try it for yourself. the negative post-ers may have had a bad day or just aren't happy with anything. Bon Appetite!

Le Cellier is good. But perhaps it doesn't deserve the cult-like following it has here. Sure, its one of the better places to eat in Epcot, but I wouldn't count my vacation as being ruined if I couldn't eat there.

As far as your specific questions; you'd be happy with what you got at Le Cellier. But you might be even happier with the food at the Yachtsman if you are eating at night. Its easy to get to, just walk out of the international gateway exit and along the lake to the Yacht Club resort.

I ate at Le Cellier twice during my February trip. I ordered the same thing both times. One meal was fantastic, one was one of the worst meals I've ever had (I'm talking service, food quality, the whole package). Most of the time I've eaten there, the food has been very good, so I know my one really bad meal wasn't typical. But every restaurant can have an off day once in a while. I would certainly go back there again sometime.

The filet is great! Everything my family had we loved. Honestly, what I think makes Le Cellier great is, particularly if you are on the DDP, the fact that it is 1 TS meal, vs. 2, whereas Yacthsman, for example, is 2. And, if you're paying OOP, might be generally more expensive, we never pay OOP, so, can't say that for sure, but, for DDP, I truly think Le Cellier is one of the best buys for the money, only taking 1 TS meal. Also, on the DDP, kids can get steak w/o an extra cost. I'd heard before that they charged extra for kids to get steak (on the DDP) but they don't. :thumbsup2

1) Steaks are all ordered pre-portioned from an outside vendor. Usually good.
2) Sometimes they let you substitute, other times, no. Ask and find out.
3) We don't do chicken at WDW, so I can't say.
4) The crisps are broiled cheese with black pepper.
5) I have never seem plain mashed potatoes there. But, they might have them.

Le Cellier was the dining highlight of our first WDW trip! The BBQ glazed filet and the mushroom filet were both great! And do NOT miss the yummy pretzel bread. I'm getting hungry now.

Everyone raves about the cheese soup but I'm not a big fan of cheese soups so I had the beef barley soup instead. It was very good. We have had good meals there the 4 or 5 times we ate there but I would agree it can't live up to the cult standing it has acquired. I think some of the negative reviews have come from over expectations.

We love Le Cellier! The 7 oz. filet is great, and so are the cream cheese mashed potatoes. I would ask if you can replace them with normal ones when you get to the restaurant. :)

ITA. i was pretty good but not great. We have decided that we have been there done that and it will not be one we HAVE to visit everytime we go.

I had the 7 oz filet when I was there last summer, and it was amazing. My mom also ordered the filet, and she was allowed to substitute Yukon potatoes for the cream cheese mashed. Try the cheese soup, it was delicious! And the bread they gave us was also awesome...they give you a few different types, nice and warm, one from every region of Canada. The pretzel bread was my favorite!

We ate there this trip. We liked it. This is terrible but I don't eat much steak. I believe it was the New York strip I had and it was good. I missed out on the mash potatoes as a choice. I would have gotten those. Didn't really like the hard potatoes I got. Cheese soup great and the pretzel bread awesome!

We ate dinner @ Le Cellier for the first time in August. DH who is normally a ribs/chicken kind of guy ordered a steak! :rotfl: He got the strip steak and LOVED it....

I got the seared free range chicken and wow-it was amazing! Loved it!

The cheddar cheese soup though was Blech! :scared1: I have no idea what the hype is about it... it's like eating hot cheese in soup form.... just gross.....

I definitely thought it was great, but I would not be willing to pay those prices w/o the DDP :rotfl:

Le Cellier was our best meal on our Nov trip! I am a very picky eater and when I saw cream cheese mashed potatoes I was not happy!LOL Usually I would never eat anything with cream cheese. I'm so glad I didn't change them! They were delicious and had no cream cheese taste. It's hard to describe but they tasted like really good mashed potatoes but not cheesey, if that makes sense! I had them with the filet with the bar b que sauce on the side. It was so delicious and next time I'll let them keep the sauce on it. I also had the steakhouse Caesar salad. It is very different from a regular caesar salad, but it was so good. You get huge pieces of romaine lettuce with a caesar dressing and home made croutons. The service was perfect and we can't wait to go back. Our server would've let me substitute the mashed potatoes for steakhouse fries. DS had those with his meal and DH and I were fighting him for some, LOL that's how good those were!! Oh, and the pretzel bread, well we had 2 servings of it!

We've enjoyed all of our meals at Le Cellier, although some have been better than others. DD loves the cheese soup - I think it is OK but kind of over rated. DH doesn't care for cheese so he gets the beef barley which he says is one of the best soups he's had at WDW. I got the caesar salad in November. It is large pieces of romaine. The crisp is kind of like broiled, melted cheese that looks kind of like a cookie. I broke mine up to be more like traditional croutons although it is very thin. It was all in all a very good caesar salad. DH had the 14oz NY Strip and pronounced it excellent. DD had the barbecue filet. I had the barbecue filet and substituted the Yukon Gold potatoes. I've never had a problem substituting potatoes. But I've never asked for something not served with any other dish like plain mashed potatoes so that might be a problem. I have had the mushroom risotto that normally comes with the mushroom filet with the NY strip and it was excellent too.

DD asked our server for some extra pretzel bread "to go". She very kindly wrapped up a couple of breadsticks in tin foil. We expected a charge for them but they were not on the bill. Needless to say, that server got a very good tip since I added a few extra bucks that I had expected to pay for the bread. She was a great server. Last time we ate there, we would say the service was only adequate.

I also think that some of the negative reviews of Le Cellier come from the high expectations we have. We also ate at the Yachtsman last trip and would choose Le Cellier over it just based on the higher cost at Yachtsman. We didn't think the steaks were much better. The sides and appetizers were better at Yachtsman but not enough to justify the extra expense.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I decided to go ahead and put this on our list to make an ADR for. As for replacing cream cheese mashed potatoes, I will go ahead and see about just replacing for either the streak fries or the yukon potatoes. No biggie. I rather have the steak fries then mashed potatoes anyways :thumbsup2 I didnt even know they had steak fries. It wasnt on their menu online here on the DIS and AllEars. So I guess those menus dont have everything on there afterall. I didnt think they did, but wasnt sure, but this just proves those menus just give you a general idea and thats it. As for the cheese soup - Ill pass. First off - I cant see myself eating melted cheese in a soup form that has beer in it. I like melted cheese on food and thats about it. Like grilled cheese, hamburger helper, pizza, and nachos. 2nd - Im lactose so eating a bowl of nothing but melted cheese wouldnt be good for me, for my tummy and def for our trip! :scared1: I can eat cheese and other dairy - just not a whole bunch at one time and can only limit myself to 1 thing of dairy a day and thats it, unless I have eggs or cereal in the morning, then thats ok, and I can usually have 1 more thing for lunch, dinner or a snack.
