I've have never eaten at this place before, but it seems to be all the rage on these boards :thumbsup2 So with that being said, I tried to get a ADR and wasn't able to. I heard that they have amazing cheese soup and I was wondering if there is any other place I can get this. We really want to try it!!

No.:sad2: LeCellier is the only place to enjoy it. Unless you go during the Food & Wine festival (the sell it at the Canada booth.).

I have read on these boards of people going up to the front desk (inside) and asking if they can get a cup to go.

I think it really matters how busy the place is at the time. Can't hurt to try anyway! Maybe sugar sweet it...My friend told me about the amazing cheese soup you have but we couldn't get a seat, anyway I can get a small cup to go or to try?

I found this recipe (might have been here I think...). I haven't had a chance to try it yet though

Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

8 oz smoked bacon, diced
2 Tbs Butter, unsalted
1 med Red Onion diced
3 ribs celery, diced
1 C all purpose flour
3 C chicken stock
3 C whole milk
12oz White Cheddar, Canadian black Diamond
3 dashes Tabasco
3 dashes worcestershire
4 fl oz Canadian moosehead ale warm
kosher salt
black pepper, fresh ground
1 tbs chives, sliced thin
2 Tbs smoked bacon renderedcrips, fat removed.

Heat milk and chicken stock, bring to simmer. hold hot for soup. Put bacon in large heavy bottom, not reactive soup pot over a med heat, cook half way through. Add butter, onion, celery, cook until onions are translucent and bacon crisp. Whisk in milk and stock, stir occasionally, make sure no lumps. Bring to gentle boil, stir often for 15 min. make sure not to scorch. Remove from heat, whisk in cheese till full incorporation. Add tabasco, worcestershire
and warm ale, season with salt and pepper. Serve and sprinkle with chives and bacon.

A couple people demonstrate cooking this soup on Youtube. I can't post links here yet, but one I enjoy is from a guy that puts out a cooking show called Culinary Dislights. It was easy for me to make this at home...and OMG SO GOOD! :cloud9:

Don't count on getting a cup to go - they're not technically supposed to take to go orders, and you may be able to do this only if they're not busy and the CM at the podium is inclined to let you do it.

Well..ourfamily did not like it. It is very smokey. We like the resturant but not the soup.

Don't give up... We were able to get a cancellation ADR the day of, during our last trip. It was by far the best meal we've had at disney, and we're looking forward to enjoying it again on our return. :thumbsup2

I gotta try that recipe,I tried making it at home one time with a recipe I got off the internet that was supposedly the recipe of the soup. That recipe had carrots in it and honestly I could tell right away that it just didn't taste like the real thing as I never remembered it having carrots.

Dh and I didn't like it either. We thought that it was oily and too thick. I guess it's just personal taste.

Can't believe you guys don't like it! I would go to Le Cellier JUST for this... we've been trying to get an ADR for next month but with no avail :( Not gonna give up though.

Seriously, I've only had the soup at F&W and I'm dying to go to the restaurant now - just for the soup!

Le'Cellier is not one of my favorite restaurants at WDW; I think it's way over rated and far from offering a great steak (just personal opinion). However, I did enjoy the chedder cheese soup and the pretzel bread which was the highlight of my meal.

I also hated it! I thought it tasted like grease soup:sick: The waitress noticed we did not like it and took it away and took it off the bill.We love the pretzel bread just not the soup, the rest of the food is really yummy though...we eat there every trip!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies everyone. We are going to keep trying to get an ADR, but if that fails, then it can't hurt to ask for a to-go cup. The worst they can say is no. :sad2: Regardless of where we eat, I can't wait. I just love it there.

We went in Nov of 08 and I had previously asked on the Dis about this soup. I was asking if I could get it to go (which I did, no problem) and about how good it was. After everyone was so nice I did not have the heart to write when I came back that I really did NOT like it. I expected something COMPLETELY different! It did not taste or look like a cheese soup to me. And what I was hoping for I still hope I can find somewhere! Just a really tasty cheesy soup!!!:woohoo:

There's many beer cheese soup recipes, Le Cellier's is made with sharp white cheddar and we love it. I've been fortunate on 3 separate occations, this last Feb included to get a cup to go without a problem. On th BW, Big River Grill & Brewery (?) has a their version of Beer Cheese soup, it's o.k. but I prefer the salty, sharpness of Le Cellier's better. To each his own, personally I can't stand zebra domes or tonga toast but for some they're the bomb!

We ate there on Friday, and our waiter gave me a recipe card to make at home. The one from the restraunt calls for 10 tbs of butter, I will post the card on my trip report that I will start later this week or next.

I miss it already.:lovestruc

The recipe is also in the Food & Wine festival cookbooks. I've made it from there and it seemed pretty close to me, but it is important that you get good sharp cheddar and take your time to make it. If you go to fast it'll burn or the consistency will be wrong.

As for Le Cellier, keep trying with the ADR. If you're flexible (and especially willing to eat at off hours), find a random ADR seems possible. When my family and I went last October we managed to secure two 'lunch' ADRs relatively close to the arrival date of our trip. Having the ability to check for ADRs on-line was really helpful.

We loved LeCellier. I was looking forward to trying the soup after reading so many good reviews but all 4 of us thought it was totally disgusting. The pretzel bread is to die for!
