Both are pretty disgusting. I would choose a brat over a hot dog though, based on DH's Wisconsin roots. I have grilled brats (precooked in beer) a few times.

Hot dog always, don’t care for brats. I like my hot dog cooked over an open campfire, grilled (a little char is good), boiled, steamed or fried. Ketchup, mustard, onion and relish. Or hot dog chili sauce and onion. We eat a lot of dogs and brats (burgers too) during the summer when we are camping…like tonight😁

Brats! DH's grandfather was an immigrant from Germany so bratwurst it is in this family! Personally, I'd never had one until we married. We used to eat them alot until we changed our diet a few years ago. Now, a brat is a rare treat... and we had them today. Happy Independence Day!

Always a hot dog and preferably Carolina style. That’s a hot dog with yellow mustard, Cole slaw, onions and chili (no beans). We didn’t have them today but may need some for tomorrow.

I've never been presented a head to head choice between the two at a cookout. It's always been just brats or hamburgers & hot dogs offered. I will usually pick what ever seems like the least popular with the crowd.

Never really heard about American summer bratwurst eating until I started reading on the internet; mostly hotdogs in my area growing up.

The man loveddddd franks and would eat them weekly if given the chance. Wasn’t a really healthy diet and so we compromised and ate them once a month.
Personal faves? Hummel Bros (easy to buy in CT) and Walter’s (a regional favorite). The man enjoyed the firm bite of Nathan’s. I had my first frankfurter in donkey years yesterday.

It depends on how I'm feeling that day, but I prefer hot dogs if I have to pick. We are having neither. I put a pork butt in the slow cooker yesterday. Today I'll shred it and we'll have pulled pork sandwiches, hash brown potato casserole, cole slaw, and strawberry pie (also maybe a key lime pie or a poke cake) at DD's house.
I never had the opportunity to enjoy Key Lime pie until well into my adulthood. My mom made all kinds of pies and sweet treats, but Key Lime pie was never something she did. I've enjoyed it a great deal. I just don't get to eat it like I'd want to with the diabetes issues. Reading about it made me want some. :)

I can take or leave either one, I don't love them but I don't dislike them either.

Not so sure if I have ever had a good brat, evening being in PA which has a massive German American population, they always tasted like warm bologna in hotdog shape.

Anyone know, are they supposed to taste like warm bologna? Is there a quintessential brand that captures the brat?

We always go to my sister-in-law's house for the 4th and she always serves brats only. If I had a choice between hot dog and brat I would probably choose brats anyway. :)

I've never had a brat that tastes like warm bologna. Brats should have a distinctive brat taste. Look for a coarse grind... Johnsonville are decent, and should be readily available.

Brats.

If I have a hot dog, it must be Chicago style but I can’t find that Vienna Beef brand nuclear green glow-in-the-dark relish anywhere near me. I bought 2 jars last fall in Chicago but I’m all out.

I voted Brats because I'm more likely to buy them and fix them at home. Usually not on a bun though. We did recently go to a fancy hot dog place and I ordered mine with a brat in it.

The only way I ever eat regular hot dogs is as a chili dog or in what we call "Boston Terriers" - bacon wrapped dog with baked beans and caramelized onion in a bun. Now I want one. It's probably been 10 years since I've made them. I used to do it more when we had kids at home.
