hi! ~ we stayed at ASMovies this past x-mas, and i did 2 loads of laundry.

i was NOT impressd with the situation! (this was the only thing i was not impressed with at WDW).

i went about 10 pm, dd & dh were in room chillin'. the place was packed. so while i waited, i figured out how many quarters i need. washers & dryers on small side.

$2.00 to wash
$2.00 to dry
$1.00 for laundry soap (per load) out of machine
$1.00 per load, for fab softner sheet.

so i need $12.00, right?....lol!
change machine broken, so i go all over the hotel trying to find enough quarters.......lady at front desk wasn't going to "give me all of her quarters"....but i insisted... ;)

so both loads get done in washer......1 load is DRIPPING WET! like it didn't even spin.which it did. i never left the room. so what to do? i couldn't just hit spin again.you have to run a whole new load. so i stood there and squeezed out everything the best i could......and split the load in 2 in dryers....as soon as there were 2 dryers open that is!.......anyway....when all was said and done. i had to find alot more quarters to finish the drying for all 3 dryers......took forever!! it ended up costing me $20.00 for 2 loads of laundry, and i was done at 1 am!

sorry to ramble...but like i said....it was the only negative to our trip, everything else was wonderful!!

I do laundry all the time! At home and away!! :rolleyes2
The machines are pretty large. I can't be positive about the prices of the machines. Maybe $2.00??? Someone else can maybe give you a definite answer on that..we drove the last 2x to PoP and I brought my own small bottle of ALL with me that I bought for a few dollars.. One small box for one load costs about the same thing..If you are staying a long stay (we stay 10 days) and are planning to do a bit of laundry you may want to invest in a bottle of detergent if you are able to head out to a Walgreens, etc..

Unfortunately I also do the laundry even on vacation but I want to pack light as we usually stay 2 weeks and for myself, my DH and 2 teenage boys I am not packing for all of us for 14 days!! I bring my own detergent from home because it's a rip to buy it there for a tiny box which for me is not enough. I load those machines up because I'll do it every 3 days. I thought it cost me $1.50 for the machine and dryer but maybe I'm wrong. At the Swan/Dolphin they have a machine that changes your $$$$ into tokens and you use tokens to operate the machines.

I agree with the others who've replied. I do laundry, too--with 3 boys, it's just easier than packing and not having enough anyway! But, definitely pack a roll or two of quarters and bring your own soap. I brought along baggies with powdered soap pre-measured. Didn't have any trouble with the washers at YC, but the clothes do take forever to dry!

I find that too about the dryers! I swear they aren't running them real hot so we can just throw more and more money into it. My dryer at home when I take my clothes out they are HOT. I'm not feeling anything close to that when I take the clothes out of those resort dryers.

$2 to wash/$2 to dry

I too bring my powder soap premeasured in snack size zip locks and all put into one larger ziplock with a few dryer sheets.

I also bring enough quarters with me so I don't have to search.

I also bring a pop up hamper. Helps keep the room in order.

I did laundry at POP in December. I, too, brought my own detergent and fabric softner. Also brought a trashbag to carry the laundry in.

The washers were your standard size washer, although they did have a few commercial sized ones. Also, I thought the dryer was great. Lasted 30 minutes and dried everything.

I did it during our off park day and it wasn't crowded at all. It was nice to sit at the pool while waiting for the laundry to be finished.

Yes, those pop up hampers are great!! I brought a couple of those with me last year and just put them in the corner of the room, one for color, one for white so it was easier to just dump the clothes right into the washer.

After having to wait until the wee early morning hours to do our laundry at AKL last May, we try NOT to have to do laundry during our trips. It does get a little tricky with 3 kids, but there's nothing like waiting in line all day at the parks then returning to our resort to wait in line to do laundry. Now, if we must do laundry, we use the laundry service!

flying or driving we always pack light and always bring a small of bounce ... and pre measured tide and a coin purse for quarters. Never have any problem with any of the value resort laundry maube because I never sleep I do laundry after 10PM, no prblem either with the AKL and CB Good Luck! :thumbsup2

OT and don't mean to hi-jack, but where do you get the pop up hampers?

I pack my own detergent, clothes pins, (which I also use to pin closed the curtains so no one can look in our room) and never use the dryers. I do the laundry before I go to bed, and hang the clothes up on the clothes line, shower curtain bar, over the racks in the vanity area and over the chairs if I still have laundry. I keep the fan on in the bathroom. When i get up, most is already dry. The clothes that are not dry (like jeans) are hung on the hangers to keep them out of housekeepings way. I do not pack hampers, but go to the gift shop and ask them for the largest bag they have. It becomes my laundry bag, for dirty clothes and toteing laundry. I never have problem doing laundry. I usually iron first thing in the morning while my daughter sleeps. Mind you, there is only the 2 of us. If I was doing laundry for a group, it would be more costly and labour intensive.

Can anyone tell me the laundry service rates approximately??

Thank you very much

There's been many times that I had wet clothes hanging over the lines or hanging on hangers in the coat rack. I have even brought woolite to wash things in the sink. With babies and spit-up..you can't risk stains setting in! :sad2:

I purchased mine at Linens & Things but paid way too much (about $8). I have since seen them advertised at discount stores for around $2. At that price you can leave it behind if you're like me and can't figure out how to fold it up again. :teeth: Do you have Walgreens in TX? I think I saw them in this week's flyer for 2/$5. When I first read about them hear I've got to say I thought it was pretty silly but of course I had to try it and I wouldn't travel more than 3 nights without one now.

I tried doing laundry one afternoon at the Poly and someone was doing something like 12 loads all at one time (using ALL the machines). I got up early the next morning and had the place to myself.

You can buy the pop-up hampers either in your local grocery store or any department store, they are easy to find and great because they fold flat and fit in the suitcase real nice. If you can't find it then just use the laundry bag they leave in your closet. They don't hold that much but it's something.

I would love to use the laundry service, however, it's so expensive!!!!

I just wake up early in the morning which I find is the best because nobody is in there or later in the evening. Forget going mid- day because it seems that is when alot of people go, unless you just time it right. I too bring clothes pins and use the line in the shower for the bathing suits.

I tried to do the whole laundry thing during our last trip so I didn't have so much to do when I got home...WELL the dryers decided they did not want to dry my clothes so after 3 attempts of drying and sitting in there forever I decided I WAS DONE and we had to take all of our clothes and hang them all over our room...SO this trip I am not doing laundry AT ALL!!!!!

I GIVE UP!!!! :rotfl2:

Baby carriages make great transportation for folded laundry. :thumbsup2
Also, on our last 2 trips that we drove, we brought a regular laundry basket and packed it right in the back of the truck. It held lots of things in the truck like diapers, etc. and then we used it in the room to put our dirty clothes in and transport it right on the carriage..worked out really well..but, we're not driving next time!! The pop up basket is a great idea. I have one that holds toys too!!

IMHO on this is don't use the laundry bag in your closet. I don't know if it's different at WDW, but we did this in a hotel in California and they took it for the clothes to be done. It was so expensive, so next time we bought a pop up hamper and it's the best purchase I've made for travel in awhile.

I'm getting good at traveling though, so with practice you get better. We've gone to China twice for 14 + days each trip. Talk about learning the hard way to pack light.

Hope you have a great trip!
