Late Resort Change - ME Tags??

I just made a late resort change from POFQ to AKL. I already have my ME tags for POFQ. When making the change over the phone, the gal I spoke with said that I may or may not receive my new ME tags before leaving (I leave in 16 days). And if I did not get the new tags, I should just cross out the bar code and the French Quarter indication and then write in Animal Kingdom Lodge. This would allow me to still use ME for the luggage and make sure that the bags actually ended up at the correct resort.

Has anyone else heard of this process or actually done it?

Thanks!

Happened to us in 2010- from POP to CR. I crossed out with a black sharpie and hoped for the best. When we checked into CR I did let them know what I had done and the luggage did show up later that night to CR.

DO NOT CROSS OUT THE BAR CODE!!!

If you really want to, you can cross out Port Orleans French Quarter and write in Animal Kingdom Lodge, but do not do anything to the bar code.

correct!! just cross out the resort name. Thanks for reminding me about that part!

Agreed ... leave that barcode alone!!!

The barcode is, in the language of computers, your reservation number. Your reservation number stayed the same even though you changed resorts. Therefore, the barcode is still valid. When that barcode is scanned, the computer/cast member will know your bags should be routed to AKL.

The reason you want to cross out the words "Port Orleans French Quarter" is to prevent a helpful cast member from noticing your bags in a grouping of bags bound for AKL and thinking to themselves, "Hey, what's this POFQ bag doing in the AKL bag area? I'll be helpful and pull it out of this place and bring it to the POFQ bag area." To that same end, you'll want to cross out the "DD" Mickey-head on your tag, since AKL is in the "AK" luggage zone and not the "DD" luggage zone.

Well...as long as the actual reservation number stayed the same, the bar code will read correctly. If the number did change though...the tags are no longer any good...don't care what you cross out...:thumbsup2
Most of the time the reservation number does, in fact, stay the same. But, there are times when it might change. So be sure to doublecheck that.

Boy am I glad that I asked!! :scared: I did double-check the reservation number and it did not change.

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I will most definitely NOT cross out the bar code, but for my own peace of mind and to deter those CMs who are being extra helpful, I will cross out POFQ and the Mickey Head DD with and write in Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I really appreciate all the quick and helpful responses. :goodvibes

Just wanted to say that your explanation of the "why" was great! :thumbsup2

Thanks!:flower3:

And goofy4tink is absolutely right, it is important to check your reservation number (as you did). Generally speaking, it will change only if you changed from a package reservation to a room-only reservation or vice versa; if you changed resorts but kept it a package or kept it a room-only, then you can pretty pretty sure the reservation number won't change.
