He said that parrently 'back in the day', when people MY age got fillings [with silver], dentists drilled MORE than they had to because silver didn't BOND to teeth, so they would make a bigger hole to fill, causing the tooth wall to weaken. So, for folks in their late 30's and older, this is a common thing....

That's exactly what my dentist said. And every one of my teeth that had a silver filling done (back in the 70's) has now cracked. I've either had to have the teeth crowned or I've lost them!
